    really love the honesty of your videos, showing us a real day on the river... The over editing of most fishing videos gets old! I like seeing the struggle and accomplishment.
    Thanks for the inspiration to never give up!

      Thanks! :) I appreciate the nice comment. Watch next week, as I do land a fish, a really good one too!

    You show the reality of fishing. If it was easy it would be called catching. I'm new to fly fishing so my success rate it low but there is something about it, a relaxed peacefulness that keeps me coming back when I have the time. Thanks for sharing your experiences.

      +abe frohman glad you liked it Abe! :). Keep at it, success rates will increase I promise.

      I plan on it. Better equipment is a goal for this year. I have a hand me down starter fiberglass rod from the eighties and a unknown reel. Given to me by a guy who knew I was curious about fly fishing. When I received it I was instructed to do the same when I was ready to move on and I will.

      Well I just fished with a guy named Joe, and he makes a reel called the maverick. He let me use it, and its really nice! You should check it out. They are like $135 for the 5wt, and they are fully machined and quite crisp feeling. I feel like they are about as good (possibly better) quality as my sage 3200 which is like $250 or so I think. So for half the money, yeah... Plus I think they look nicer personally. If your upgrading to better equipment, start there. Good reel. Check them out at www.qualiflyproducts.com

    I think you portray this art of fishing in a very authentic manner, well done sir! I look forward to seeing more videos like these as well as your fly tying videos in the future. I'm hoping to wet a line this weekend weather permitting!

      I'm fish in Michigan so for the most part fishing is accessible year-round unless it's consistently too cold!

      +Ben Keller really? I would have thought Michigan would be frozen over for months at a time! lol. I lived there till I was 3 years old and my parents told me stories of not being able to leave the house cause snow was up past the top of the door.. haha. Power too you man! I think I would wuss out at 0 degrees... lol

    Great stuff again!! Real fishing!! Save some fish for me brother!! I'm headed there as fast as I canI I left Wisconsin last night I am staying a little north of Denver tonight. Am leaving early in AM headed for Navajo Dam. The Animas is on my list of places to fish in the next couple of weeks too...I am so excited to be going to fish some of these great waters....looking forward to wetting a line with you Mr MCFly.

      Oh sweet! Well hopefully I will see you out on the water! I bet there isn't any fishing this time of year in Wisconsin huh? All the rivers are iced over? Probably nice to get out and fish again. I feel spoiled that I can fish all year round here.

      Im guessing you are the one I saw on the river yesterday. It was awesome meeting you! I had a great time chatting with you while I set up. Hopefully you will be here a while and we can fish together next time! :)

    One thing that struck out to me in your videos (yes I've watch several and have Subscribed) is that you find a place to cast and then pound the water from there. Consider starting lower in the run and slowly working your way to the top of the run. Every time you move your feet your fly presentation changes, the depth of the fly at points along the run changes. The tug is the drug!

      A few hours after I watched your video I ran across an article written by Devin, a member of the US fly fishing team ... He wrote "...I expected a take on the first drift or two near where the fish had
      risen. Thirty drifts later Brian showed up and I was about to cross over
      and back up to the car with him in defeat. Something in my head stopped me, though. It was one of those clear sixth sense moments you sometimes get while fishing that tells you need to make a change or give it one more try just a bit differently. I took two steps up and one step across to alter my angle. On my first drift a fish ate ..."

      Dude, that sounds like my next video! HAHAAHA thats exactly what happened on my last trip to the Animas. So I had a bad day, I fell in the water, hooked my back, didnt get a single take all day (like 5-6 hours). I was done. I walked about 2/3 the way back to my car and got the same feeling. Like a voice in my head saying just a few more casts in that same spot. HAHA (no Im not crazy, and no I don't have voices in my head). Sure enough like the 2nd cast, I had a 24-25" brown on the end of my line and it made the rest of the horrible day worth while! HAHA

    The Animas can be a fickle river.....I've had a few trips like yours. The best results from November through runoff are on streamers. Lot's of Sculpin in that river, and lots of really big Browns with an appetite for smaller fish.

    • @McFlyAngler
      @McFlyAngler  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, my next video I hook a big brown on an olive "slump buster" which is basically a small sculpin pattern in a way. I think next time I fish up that way its going to be streamer all day long. HAHA

    Great video. I feel your pain! A good percentage of fishing is confidence. You convince yourself there are fish in the water you're fishing and it's a matter of my skill to present the right fly the right a way to get bit. They're in there McFly. You can do it!

    • @McFlyAngler
      @McFlyAngler  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Robert Plewnarz yep! I agree! I was catching 5-20 fish a day before I started videoing, but I've subconsciously told myself that I can't catch fish while videoing... I'll get it back soon...

    Have you ever used a handheld hook hone or sharpener? Sharp hooks are one of the keys to landing fish effectively.

    • @McFlyAngler
      @McFlyAngler  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      thanks for the recommendation, all my hooks are sharp as can be. Barely touch the tip and they draw blood. I tie all my own flies, and use quality hooks. Usually I only fish with a fly for 1 season, and I make sure they are dried out before putting them away so they don't rust. So the points stay crazy sharp.

    • @elinegrelli1792
      @elinegrelli1792 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      www.denverwater.org/recreation/antero-resevoir ive heard its best during week days but big fish. the fish feed on scuds a lot of the year which allow them to grow more rapidly. a brown woolybugger with a scud trailer works well. if you have a float tube but i think its a good place to check out. almost directly west of co springs.
      I think it would make a good video

    Reminds me of our outings of late, pounding a lot of water with very few results. If you would comment on the flies you are using in a given situation it would make your videos more informative, Better luck next time out. 🎣John K

    • @McFlyAngler
      @McFlyAngler  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +John Kinsfather yes, I forget to comment on my flies, I will try to more... It's just I change so often when not hooking fish, I would spend like 5 full minutes of the video explaining what flies I use. Would telling what I hook fish on only be a good compromise? I hooked that trout on a small baetis pattern... the two bit hooker... in fact I did a tying video about it and even said it's what I hooked this fish on. Check out that tying video.
