  • I hear these two monitors discussed all the time amongst beginner engineers, so I thought I'd do a shoot out to really see which is better; the Yamaha Hs7 or the Adam T7V

    when you switched from the yamaha to the adam version it sounded like going from a demo to a fully fleshed out mix. the song instantly came alive i also find the stereo image has a better quality to it

      Yeah man exactly, if I could only choose one I’d pick the T7Vs, but really they both work best in tandem, the results from switching between both on a mix always gives the best overall result

    As I have the HS5, I definitely leaning toward addressing the low end with the sub, interesting how you mixed to compensate for the monitor's frequency response.

    I’m listening on crappy average listener iPhone ear buds. The vocal and guitar tone on the Atom speakers mix really sings. The Yamaha sounds muddy in comparison. I like the brighter sounding mix. Thanks for the comparison.

      you want the more muddy studio monitors. Your mix on yamahas will sound brighter because the speaker makes you think it's not bright enough.

      Hope you got these by now...once you hear them in person side by side others like HS7, the difference becomes clear. I don't know how Adam did it at this price point, but they are easily the best purchases I made in 2020. I'm upgrading now and I don't want to sell them, so we'll see how much more I get from the Dynaudio Lyd 7 and let that be the judge.

    • @primroseproductionsmusic
      @primroseproductionsmusic  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah definitely! They also have a surprising amount of low end for speakers this size, so that would be great for a lot of the low sound effects you find in gaming. Might be a bit overkill if you aren’t using them for audio at all, but definitely great for multiple applications

    So honestly I thought the Yamaha mix (coming out of my crappy razer leviathan lol) was a more balanced, perhaps radioesque? mix - but when the Adams came on I was surprised I said out loud, "Wow that's much better". There's so much more presence in the Adams mix and you can hear more reverb, and individual instruments and vocal articulation better. I was pleased to hear you said you liked the Adams mix better, because I just bought the Adams T5 (I have a very small upper room in my shed). But I may down the road get the Hs5 pair to compliment them and get the best overall mix. Thanks for this review, well done!

    You got the yamaha mix with more low end due to the starvation of that. However it is more managable if you have a controlable low end with Adams. I would go for adams for sure. Specially if you are doing EDM.

    All the drum cymbals seem a bit off, scatered, like the room was too reflective. I would gate them a but harder also a bit more of the low pass filter, I get that im way younger and have a biger specter of high frequencies that i hear. Not trying to be negative or anything just minor pointers you can take or leave either way keep on doing it!!! I hope you have great sucsses!

    honest question: why don't you use the solo button instead of the mute button to compare tracks? You get an annoying silence between the switching of the tracks, while using the solo button you could just switch between both to have an instant "feeling" of the difference. honest question, no offence, thanx for sharing your thoughts anyway. (as i am in doubt which one I need to buy)

    • @primroseproductionsmusic
      @primroseproductionsmusic  2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Adams: pros- great low mid response, really help me tighten up my low end, cons- bit of a dip in the high mids but then the highs cut through a lot, may result in cutting too much of the 10k and up range
      Yamaha: pretty much the exact opposite, they have very weak low-mid and low response but a pretty accurate high end. Which is why I love the combination so much is they balance each other out.
      But if I, personally, had to pick just one, I’d go with the adams

    Listening to this on Genelecs. The Yamahas tend to under-represent the bass and over-represent the upper-mid and treble. So guess what ? When you mix on the Yamahas there's too much bass and a mid-range suck out.

  • @ChrisBessy
    @ChrisBessy 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    when i work with my yamaha i have always problems with the bass. I can't equalize good the bassline or the kick. Also with my HS7 it's too much open at 2kHz thus my mix will sounds too much close in the mids. For example the voice or the guitars ....... I wanted to try the T7V but it's too big for my little studio :)

      Yeah man, all studio monitors will have a different quality to some extent; some more than others, but there will always be some difference. That’s why I think it’s so important that everyone have at least two sets of studio monitors; if you’re only mixing on one set of monitors, there’s no guarantee it’ll translate well to all different possible systems

  • @KebbaPropulsion
    @KebbaPropulsion 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I presume you have been using both pairs for the same amount off time. Because otherwise it’s not really a fair test. How can mixing a 3 track session really show how good a monitor is…? Monitors need to be adjusted to suit your rooom acoustics and your brain needs to adjust too them. You are more than likely aware of each monitors shortcomings and mixing around them anyway. Much better to hear the monitors side by side then to compare a simple mix session of just 3 tracks. Most sessions in electronic music are at least 20 tracks! Too many variables to be able to compare monitors in this way without hearing them side by side. Better to hear maybe five sessions you have mixed over a few days/ weeks on one pair and then same for another pair. Then it’s easy to hear the differences.

    Not very pleasing to listen to. Bought them yesterday and already thinking to bring them back to try out the KRK Rokit 7.
    I even can't sleep this night.
    I watched other youtube video's of the T7V, and they are right indeed. Very disappointed.

  • @HighlandStudio91
    @HighlandStudio91 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I never liked Yamaha and up until KRK's Rokit G4 series came out...both of these brand of monitors sounded nearly identical(flabby low end and exaggerated mids. ) At least KRK finally improved their Rokit series dramatically & kept the price reasonable...whereas Yamaha still remains the same(just consumer-grade shit-boxes masquerading as pro monitors.) Yamaha monitors are the most over-hyped studio speakers in the business and yet,people continue to fall for the marketing bullshit. A good indication of this,is how Yamaha fudges the numbers in their spec sheets. With the HS monitors,Yamaha claims their dome tweeters deliver a high frequency response of 30kHz(which is absolutely impossible for a dome configuration in this price range.) This type of false advertising is characteristic of low budget companies like Behringer, Samson, M-Audio and the like.....which in my view,makes Yamaha no better than these said companies. Yamaha isn't anywhere near in the same league as Adam Audio....but hey, as long as Yamaha continues to monetarily incentivize TH-cam reviewers to put Yamaha up on a pedestal, we should all just believe that Yamaha is king, right?

    • @primroseproductionsmusic
      @primroseproductionsmusic  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      “As long as Yamaha continues to monetarily incentivize TH-cam reviewers to put Yamaha up on a pedestal” my guy, did you even watch the video? Because I absolutely did not put the yamahas on the pedestal; I clearly state that I prefer the adams by a longshot 😂😂

    • @HighlandStudio91
      @HighlandStudio91 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@primroseproductionsmusic I did not mean necessarily that you specifically gave them high praise.....but then...I do wonder why you have them in the first place? Essentially...I am saying that many TH-camrs do give the HS-series high marks and there is a big fan-base(not just from bedroom studio users...but pros & semi-pros. Some will just have Yamaha's in their studios...merely as a point of reference..in terms of how recordings translate to consumers home stereos & the like(which seems like a terrible waste of money,since one can just buy a cheapo stereo from Wal-Mart & it will do the same job.)

    • @primroseproductionsmusic
      @primroseproductionsmusic  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I have them to do just that, to see how things will translate. Each set of monitors is different, and everyone should have at least 2 sets of monitors to see how your mixes sound on multiple different sets of speakers, and both of these monitors were in my price range. Sure, I could have instead bought a single pair of monitors that costs twice as much as either of these, but then I’m still stuck with the issue of mixing in a bubble. I’d much rather have 2 sets of less expensive monitors to reference on rather than one expensive set of monitors and have to run out to my car to test a mix 15 times a day
