Great vid. I’ve been using Yorkville YM-1 for the last 30 years. Similar to your Yamaha’s. I power them with a Crown 100w power amp because they are not powered monitors. I’ve changed a lot of gear over the years but not those, there great. Never had them calibrated, would love to. Moi from Turku! Excellent video! One question: I am wondering why you did not go the Genelec + GLM software this time and you chose to go with different brands + sonarworks? Was it because of Money? Kiitos Paljon! Kippis! 🤘🏻
Great video my friend. Cool 😎 accent you have btw. I use ADAM AUDIO monitors at the moment. A few years ago, it was time for me to upgrade from my then too small Mackie monitors. I’ve decide to buy the T7V. They’re awesome budget monitors. The T8V have too much low frequency energy and the small T5V cannot go low enough. In my honest opinion, if we only look at the 3 T series, the T7V I’ve been using for a while are the most balanced of these 3 entry level monitors. Although the crossover is at 2.6 kHz, the 7 inch woofer doesn’t overwhelm the midrange frequencies like the bass heavy T8V do. Yamaha HS models are also great monitors. The midrange is lovely. For anyone who reads this comment; what studio monitors do you use?
Thanks man! Yeah it’s the Finnish one 🤟. IMO the price is entry level but the quality is top notch pro. At least IMO 😎. I’ve been a professional musician, producer, engineer etc. for quite a long time and have used 10 times more expensive monitors but I like these a lot and they’re my main ones. Obviously it’s a matter of personal preferences but these works just great in my studio. And I got the matching Yamaha sub a while ago and oh boy now I can really hear the low end which is quite important especially when mastering 👌.
I can’t really answer that ’cos we all have our own ears & preferences. Whatever does the job the best for you. To me the best speakers are the ones with the flattest response after the Sonarworks calibration and the Yamahas did the job the best in my room.
In my opinion, the number one mistake most people make is to interpret the supposedly less present mids as a weakness of the Adams compared to the Yamaha for example. In fact, the opposite is true because the Adams are just much more transparent in reproducing the high and lowends. However, you will hear the difference at last if you do the same mix on different monitors and compare the results on a neutral source!
I got Adam Ax7 and was a bit disappointed, then I also get sub, the new KRK. For me it’s works perfect, also have a good stands, which i think helps a lot. Yamaha is also a great value, it’s about personal preference.
That is the first thought I had (oh no the Genelecs). I have never gotten comfortable with my guitar tune via studio monitors and have had - sold some good ones. Not sure why must be my old ears (or lack of proper room treatment - calibration). Use my Kemper through a Kabinet - Kone, traditional guitar cab, or headphones. Tube amps via a cab of course (sometimes head phones via reactive load - audio device). DAW plugins via audio device - headphones. Thinking I am missing something with dialing in the monitor tone. Many use monitors with great success. Great vid Euge keep them coming!
The flatter the monitors (Sonarworks calibration 👌) the easier it is to hear how things actually sound. I never dial the amps when recording by being in front of cab. Don’t make much sense to me since the microphones mic’in the cab ”hear” (and record) the sound differently than my ears (well my ears can’t record anything 😁) so I always dial everything with monitors since that will be the sound that will be recorded and what people will hear when they listen the recording 😎.
Great video, with good practical points and advice. Really appreciated the lack of waffle and the logical explanations as to the review testing. First rate job.
I liked the Yamaha Monitors the best. Good choice. 👍 They sounded the most balanced, natural, and open. With the other monitors, there was too much bass, and it sounded like the frequencies were piled one upon the other, and the result was a lack of clarity and openness. I listened through Studio Monitor Headphones. Thanks
@@EugeValovirta230V It would be short sighted for Yamaha not to give them to you. Perhaps they don't yet realize that you have a good following, and that the gear that you use is regularly highlighted in your videos. All the gear you use and love is noticed by your viewers, who listen carefully to your advice and demos. Perhaps someone from Yamaha or someone with contacts will take a good look at your content and recognize that musicians like you are a valuable asset to the makers of the gear they use and increase sales, and can provide quality feedback that they might not be able to get elsewhere.
My experience and 2db re ADAM A7Xs? When I used to work in a room with NS10's, a guy brought a pr of A7Xs in. NS10's being very very mid-centric have always been great for dialing in guitars and I thought the A7Xs with their ribbon tweeter design really work fantastic on guitars as well. I also used 8020s for 3 years in the mobile rig we had and while as you said, they are really great (we had 8040s in the room) they're very good for such a small pkg but the A7Xs are a little easier to work with I think. But, just my 2db as I said!
Great choice, Euge. Very good speakers, especially for the price, that hold well compared to some of the more premium models out there. A7Xs can also cause a bit of year fatigue after long periods of listening to them. Dynaudio BM5 MKIII would have been another great option. Anyway congrats for the new speakers and may them serve you long and well!
I mixed with the A7X from 2014-2016 and i had minimal ear fatigue that prompted me to try the HS8 and I have mixed with the them now for 6 years (often paired with the HS8S sub) and also have a pair as my computer speakers at home and a pair as my TV speakers with the HS8S sub and i've never experienced any kind of ear fatique with then. It propably depends on the room and the person but the Yamaha's solved my problem. If i get something high end in the future i'll propably still keep a pair of these next to them.
HS 5 is actually the best Yamaha monitor with best mid pair it with sub. Adam A7X sounds more like I want to hear it when I mix but it needs a sub to. HS 8 requires good room and that you place it a bit from the wall but it sounds very embarrassing sometimes your sound card can affect the sound more than you think. My voice goes to Adam A7X with sub complement with a mono mixcube and you have it all. Have never heard of anyone switching from Adam A7X to Yamaha HS 8 however from HS 8 to Adam more commonly. I think many people want the HS 8 to be better because it costs less, think about it, but try it in your own room. Should add that you can miss sub with HS 8 to.
That’s a good question 😎. I listened to it now and it sounds like our (Cyhra) demo. I guess we used parts of that to some song that’ll be on our forthcoming third album. But I might be wrong since I write, record, produce & mix so much music all the time that it’s hard to remember everything 😎.
I’m always looking for a flattest frequency response and never liked to mix with several different monitors. I just want one flat response and that’s it 😎👌.
Now that you've had the yammies for a while how do you feel your mixes translate compared to your genelecs? Not speaking hust low end but mids and highs/ total mix. Love your amp reviews and content by the way.
I like them a lot and the customers too 😎. With the Sonarworks software and room calibration thing they’re pretty much dead flat across the full range from 20K down to 40hz and then there’s a bit of unflatness below 35 hz but very little 👌. It’s obviously about personal preferences and what you’re used to but I’m very comfortable / confident with them and I’ve even stopped checking my mixes in a car 😎.
I have found a pair of adam t7vs and yamaha hs8s for a very similar price, and I often produce dance/edm music [and sometimes trap] - which one should I go for?
Cool great job! I bought the Adam A7X because to me they have more clear depth, almost 3d sound with seperation. The Yamaha's are cool too, tone eq etc, but I dont hear the clarity like the A7x's I have a small room though, so the slightly smaller speaker I think works better for me also..
@@EugeValovirta230V but did you notice that A7X have more details other than Yammies and Adams? Or are they all similar in this sense? If so, then i would buy Yamaha Or Adams. They are way way cheaper.
Awesome dyyyd! Pliis compare yammis and Behkun truth kopiot. Everyone wants to know! Shout out to Malja, such an amazing artist. Only love since The Arms! Also Moon Shot: such an amazing Super Band! Long live true art! Sori Oon vähän liekeissä..
But to hear the mixdown of the A7X on the HS8 it is clear that not good sound. Also if you hear the mixdown of the HS8 did not sound good on the A7X. So that make no sense.
Hey man, what’s up? Very interesting video with an interesting choice you made I am also choosing between exactly these three speakers. Question that bothers me-what about casual music listening? People say that Yamahas are bad for it and that they will be boring, if you want to get some satisfaction from bassy, punchy moments. Like, that you will hear bass of course (they are 8 inch), but that you won’t get your “high” from that, so to speak. That they are purely for mixing. And that Adams with those tweeters are of course better for it. While last sentence is most likely true, since everything sounds cool on adams, what about Yamahas though? I will actually probably mostly listen to music on them. I will also play guitar through my fractal axe fx. But i really really love music listening. I love bassy, low frequency breakdowns/distorted guitars like from metallica, Meshuggah. I also like Pink Floyd and stuff, i like colorful songs. I like warmth coming from music. So i don’t know what to do If they are so boring, then i might not take them because of that. I am mostly hi fi music lover. I am not a mixer yet. But i will become one in the future, that’s my goal, i want to produce music. What do you think? (Edit) btw i don’t have money on a subwoofer
Thanks! I haven’t found them boring at all. I’ve always just listened to music with the same speakers as I mix & master ’cos it’s important to know your speakers. What is a good speaker? The ones you know and are familiar with. And with the Sonarworks SoundID Reference system my speakers are really flat and calibrated to my room so I can hear exactly what I’m doing and when just listening I hear exactly how a mixing & mastering engineer wanted the song to sound. I don’t like if the music is coloured by the speakers ’cos then the music isn’t sounding the way it was intended (by the artists, mixing engineer, producer etc,). If a song sounds boring then it’s not the speaker’s fault but the production’s 😎🤟.
I mix with quite low volume. Today I mixed two songs for a Finnish metal band (one song to go and the album is mixed) and now I’m done for today. 8 hours was enough 😎.
Today i heared all side by side. I heared round about 20 different Monitor Speakers. And in Difference to all other the HS8 have mid overboost to much. At the A7V is something missing. Not only low end. I liked the T8V at most. They were most balance over the whole frequency range.
Guitar tracking is a very easy task for any studio monitors. I love playing my guitar through Y HS8, it sounds very clear and punchy. 8 inch studio monitors can do a lot more than guitar tracking. They actually have good enough bass extension for a bass guitar in standard tuning. I would not hesitate choosing any even 5 inch studio monitors for guitar modeling and tracking. So choose any studio monitors you want, you will be happy for your purposes.
Great comparison. I like the Yamahas the best. Currently have Mackie HR824 and JBL 308’s but neither inspire confidence in my room. Think I’ll put them on my Xmas list 🤣
Hi Euge, I'm curious about hiss.I experienced with the T8V's that they were hissing very loudly when I wasn't playing music. Did the HS8 have the same hiss? Thank you.
I have HS8, no hiss. You have to put your ear to the speaker to hear any hiss. Class D amps will all have some hiss, but it is not noticeable with Yamahas
I think you need to revisit your room treatment, as that 107Hz spike is on every sonar works correction, you are constantly describing a blurgh sound for bass as soon as there's any kind of loud bass frequencies present, and I can hear a reverberation down low every time you speak or play music on any speaker being picked up via the mic (unless sonar works is playing whak-a-mole with your bass, as then I just hear barely any bass at all). You need some better/different bass traps as ~100Hz is clearly an issue in your room. That foam isn't designed to stop low frequencies (even though sometimes it's sold as a bass trap, it's not at all) and the bass is probably bouncing around most of your room freely building up, and it sounds like it from the recording too. The bare brick walls in between the treatment probably aren't helping either. More thick curtains all the way round is a cheap way to fix the brick issue. This is also causing that dip just below 100Hz, as the size of your room, mixed with the bouncing bass is creating a null at that 80hzish frequency at your listening spot as a result (as well as that room mode or doubling effect or what ever is going on at just above 100Hz). This is probably why any time you hear low frequencies they sound bloated as you describe, as they are heavily skewed by your room to be 100hz heavy and light in the deeper 80Hz area, and again boosted at around 60, but not as much as 100Hz, sonar works can only do so much to fix this, and it will still heavily effect your mixing decisions, even if you don't realize it at the time (and you can still see in sonar works, it can't fully correct for it). A song might need/want a lot of bass to really sound good, but it will never sound good any time you do anything down there due to the room reflections, so the only answer, without changing anything in the room, is to cut the balls off your mix by toning down the bass so it doesn't set off your listening environment's reverberations. My old small room used to have the exact same problem, it sucks IK. ;)
Thanks for the tips man! Yeah it was like that but with my new EVE SC3070s the problem is pretty much gone and the lows are a lot clearer 👌. th-cam.com/video/uZ6EVAi9S_4/w-d-xo.html
@@EugeValovirta230V They are a beautiful pair of speakers man, congratulations! I can see I was replying to an old video, and you already have beefed up your acoustic treatment. That's the thing with small rooms, they need SO much treatment. Even changing from a 2x3 mt squ. room to a 3.5x4 mt squ. room I notice a HUGE difference in bass response and a massive reduction in standing waves.
@@EugeValovirta230V Oh and thick floor mat rubber is quite good at killing bass, if you want to upgrade the bass traps on the cheap, just put that in ever corner behind what you've already got. It's hard to tell on video if them traps are just soft foam, or thick heavy duty material. ;)
Im using yamaha hs8 at the moment. I found that i really need to double check the high gain guitar high end above 6khz for fizz. If not, my guitars will sound too fizzy on other consumer headphones.
I'm not in your level Euge, but those are the same speakers I use. I never auditioned them in my room, only in the store, but I really don't think anything in their price range is as good. I hear great things about the Kali, but they didn't exist when I got my Yamahas.
I'm biased to the HS 8 'cause i did a lot of Stuidowork on them at a friends Studio. Myself i'm using the Fluid Audio F8, guess they are kind of similiar to the HS 8.
Why not separate subs in metal? I tried ADAM T7V they share the same twitter with T8Vs but I settled with the 8020Ds. My room is too small. Genelecs are great I hope you keep them around :) Edit: I used to have HS7 and I ended up mixing with too much highs, I wonder how you will fell out it. I guess SoundID will help a lot.

Producing techno, future rave, mainstream songs... Adam T7V or rokit rp7 g4 and why?? Please ❤️
Indeed 👌🤟
@@EugeValovirta230V Going to try another set of monitors at some point. Headphones work great but there are days I do not feel like wearing them.
The T8V need a bigger room, you should have tried the better balanced T7V... but the HS8 are good choice as well !
Great video, with good practical points and advice. Really appreciated the lack of waffle and the logical explanations as to the review testing. First rate job.
Thanks man!
Thanks For The Video.
🙏
Very interesting comparison bro!!!!
Thanks C!
You are wellcome E!!!!
I thought that the Genelec mix sounded pretty great as well! I'm happy you found your new monitors.
Thanks! Me too 😎.
Good, but boxy!
By the way an interesting thought- maybe you would have chosen Adams if they were A8X
Who knows 😎.
Great comparison! Yep, liked the Yamaha as well.
Thanks man!
Thanks
That’s why I chose to buy them 👌😎.
@@EugeValovirta230V Yamaha should just give the pair to you, as it would be hard to get a better Ad for them. 😎
In a perfect world that might happen 😎
@@EugeValovirta230V It would be short sighted for Yamaha not to give them to you. Perhaps they don't yet realize that you have a good following, and that the gear that you use is regularly highlighted in your videos. All the gear you use and love is noticed by your viewers, who listen carefully to your advice and demos.
Perhaps someone from Yamaha or someone with contacts will take a good look at your content and recognize that musicians like you are a valuable asset to the makers of the gear they use and increase sales, and can provide quality feedback that they might not be able to get elsewhere.
We’ll see 😎. I don’t do the videos to get free gear but just to give information to people and I just like doing these 👌😊.
Cool video) im still use KRK VXT8, i love them)
Thanks!
Mate you should get the adam A8H 3 way that would be best
I had a feeling you would go with the Yamaha's. I'm sure you will like them.
😎👌
Thank you very much for this useful video!
I'll go with the A7X (front loaded).
You’re welcome! 🙏👌
The A7x are great but the have been discontinued.
👌😎
Great choice, Euge. Very good speakers, especially for the price, that hold well compared to some of the more premium models out there.
A7Xs can also cause a bit of year fatigue after long periods of listening to them. Dynaudio BM5 MKIII would have been another great option.
Anyway congrats for the new speakers and may them serve you long and well!
Thanks man!
Can’t argue with personal preferences 👌. If it sounds good, it’s good. If it sounds the best, it’s the best. Whatever it is 😎.
I heard the crossover problem on over channels also. Ribbon tweater of Adam cannot play so deep.
On the T8V's, there is a bass and treble boost/cut setting - did you try that?
I tweaked all of them but did the Sonarworks room / speaker calibration all knobs on neutral.
What's the song called and is it released somewhere because the melody sound amazing?
That’s a good question 😎. I listened to it now and it sounds like our (Cyhra) demo. I guess we used parts of that to some song that’ll be on our forthcoming third album. But I might be wrong since I write, record, produce & mix so much music all the time that it’s hard to remember everything 😎.
would you recommend using the t8v and a7x's together? you could eq them to the frequencies they perform best at to get a fuller sound stage.
I’m always looking for a flattest frequency response and never liked to mix with several different monitors. I just want one flat response and that’s it 😎👌.
foamplug the t8vs port tighter, quicker and more restrained bass in db. win
So it appears that you kept the Yamahas for only about a year or so.. did you end up not liking them in the long run?
I have found a pair of adam t7vs and yamaha hs8s for a very similar price, and I often produce dance/edm music [and sometimes trap] - which one should I go for?
I can’t speak of others but I’m very happy with Yammies.
Cool great job! I bought the Adam A7X because to me they have more clear depth, almost 3d sound with seperation.
The Yamaha's are cool too, tone eq etc, but I dont hear the clarity like the A7x's
I have a small room though, so the slightly smaller speaker I think works better for me also..
Thanks!
Thanks for sharing. It makes sense
Its actually interesting why he picked Yamahas. They are in a different price range. A7X are more expensive.
@@EugeValovirta230V didn’t A7X felt more expensive and more details/level up?
In my room with Sonarworks’ calibration the Yammies were the most neutral / flattest and that’s what I like.
@@EugeValovirta230V but did you notice that A7X have more details other than Yammies and Adams? Or are they all similar in this sense? If so, then i would buy Yamaha Or Adams. They are way way cheaper.
I love my Freyette amp. Are you using Superior Drummer?
That or Bogren Digital’s Krimh Drums.
@@EugeValovirta230V I haven't heard of Bogren Digital. I will check it out. Brilliant programming.

Thanks!
But to hear the mixdown of the A7X on the HS8 it is clear that not good sound.
Also if you hear the mixdown of the HS8 did not sound good on the A7X.
So that make no sense.
Hey man, what’s up? Very interesting video with an interesting choice you made
I am also choosing between exactly these three speakers.
So i don’t know what to do
If they are so boring, then i might not take them because of that.
@@EugeValovirta230V how are they in terms of ear fatigue? Do u make pauses often?
I mix with quite low volume. Today I mixed two songs for a Finnish metal band (one song to go and the album is mixed) and now I’m done for today. 8 hours was enough 😎.
Today i heared all side by side. I heared round about 20 different Monitor Speakers.
And in Difference to all other the HS8 have mid overboost to much. At the A7V is something missing. Not only low end. I liked the T8V at most. They were most balance over the whole frequency range.
Subscribed! Thank you!
Glad to hear! Thanks!
Which ones would you prefer if they were strictly used for guitar tracking? Like with a Quad Cotex ?
Guitar tracking is a very easy task for any studio monitors. I love playing my guitar through Y HS8, it sounds very clear and punchy. 8 inch studio monitors can do a lot more than guitar tracking. They actually have good enough bass extension for a bass guitar in standard tuning. I would not hesitate choosing any even 5 inch studio monitors for guitar modeling and tracking. So choose any studio monitors you want, you will be happy for your purposes.
have you tested Tannoy gold 7?
Great comparison. I like the Yamahas the best. Currently have Mackie HR824 and JBL 308’s but neither inspire confidence in my room. Think I’ll put them on my Xmas list 🤣
Thanks! 👌

It's hard to tell on video if them traps are just soft foam, or thick heavy duty material. ;)
Thanks for another tip 🙏👌. They’re pretty thick so not just your usual foam 💪😎.
Yeah! Thanks!
Im using yamaha hs8 at the moment. I found that i really need to double check the high gain guitar high end above 6khz for fizz. If not, my guitars will sound too fizzy on other consumer headphones.
Sonarworks Reference and everything will be fine and flat 👌😎.
I'm not in your level Euge, but those are the same speakers I use. I never auditioned them in my room, only in the store, but I really don't think anything in their price range is as good. I hear great things about the Kali, but they didn't exist when I got my Yamahas.

Why not separate subs in metal? I tried ADAM T7V they share the same twitter with T8Vs but I settled with the 8020Ds. My room is too small. Genelecs are great I hope you keep them around :)
Edit: I used to have HS7 and I ended up mixing with too much highs, I wonder how you will fell out it. I guess SoundID will help a lot.
Why not speakers that works without 😎. The simpler setup, the better IMO 😊.
I wouldn’t trust any speakers without the (Sonarworks) calibration.
