    While the hs7 are cheaper i think the killer feature on the a7vs is being able to import a sonarworks sound correction directly onto the speakers. That is HUGE that means you dont need to run the systemwide app or plugin in the daw to correct its sound

    • @hohloyumor
      @hohloyumor ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately, you are wrong, every room is different and you will notice that the Sonarworks frequency graph changes if you try recording several, presets using the sonarworks mic in various spots of the room.

    • @Styrant
      @Styrant ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@hohloyumor variance is too be expected as sonarworks only claims to correct to an average, but if measured properly they expect the variance of this average to be within +/- 0.94 db. Additionally adam will only be using subtractive correction which typically will address peaks in the lowend. If youre in the mix position I trust the correction to be useful. While it may indeed vary, ive never found the correction to make things worse.

    Seems like the Adam Audio A7V have a bigger drop in the midrange - and they sound pretty squeezed with less definition.
    Yamaha HS7 sound pretty fine, more open, much more natural and way more relaxed.
    Still, I'd go for the Yamaha MSP series (pro series of the HS version) - they have an even higher audio resolution (the best I've ever experienced in studio monitors) and better mixing potential.

    I live in Canada and the cheapest A7V's I can find are about 1149$ per one speaker, the HS7's are at about 399$. Not sure what's up with that but personally I liked the clarity of the HS7's a bit more even of it lacks a bit of low end, that can be resolved with a sub.

    • @sloppyprogrammer4373
      @sloppyprogrammer4373 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can't really compare low ends a video to be really honest. But yeah, a sub is something I would prefer in a home environment especially bedroom environment instead of a bigger cone in your monitors, especially if you also want to regularly listen music on them as well. You don't want too much lows spoil music like metal and rock because it can sound really boomy which isn't nice (a sub you can turn off or lower and messing around with just monitors is annoying for casual listening).
      If you listen and produce/mix mostly EDM, though, bigger cones in your monitors and the blowhole in the front is better tbh. But for every day to day music listening and some casual music production... I would definitely prefer a standalone subwoofer with de HS7S (especially considering the price difference). The bigger cones and the holes in the front can make certain music feel really boomy, which is only nice in EDM and hiphop. For rock and metal its not great to have all lows directed to you

      HS8 is even better - deeper lows and a bit more neutrality in the mids without the masking from the lows.

    • @MeMyself-gf7fn
      @MeMyself-gf7fn 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      HS8s are not for desktop use and shouldn't even be next to a wall, as most desks will be, but free standing away from it. In a small or medium room they are too overpowering, thus the HS7s and the hs5s are the home studio monitors and the HS8s are for larger spaces, depending on your needs. You can always add a sub to the HS7s if you find you really need a lot of bass, but when you are 3ft away from them like you would be at a desk or mixing table which is the distance you are supposed to be, I doubt you will really need a sub, unless you are Skrillex or something.

    I used to have Adam A5X and I really loved their sound, but for some reason whatever I mixed on them sounded completely different (in a bad way) on other systems, like cars, headphones, or radio. Some things sounded too harsh, others were too smooth and " buried" in the mix, etc. This was really bothering me because I could not understand what the "real" sound was and therefore could not make my mixes translate well to other systems.
    This problem completely disappeared after I purchased Yamaha HS7 and got used to their sound for a few days. Now after mixing on Yamahas for some time and then checking on other systems, there are no unpleasant surprises like that. Yamahas are unforgiving in terms of dynamic and frequency response, allowing me to identify issues in the mix quickly and easily, and be sure that whatever sounds good on HS7 will sound good on other speakers/systems.
    Maybe that problem was due to A5X smaller woofer size, but from what I can hear in the video, Yamahas do have that mid-frequency-forward sound, which reveals problems in your mix a lot better and quicker. For instance, listen to drums and guitars in the comparison section of this video. You can really hear how much more forward-sounding Yamahas are, revealing all the harshness, whereas on Adams these instruments sound too smooth and "buried" in the mix. The downside to this is less bass, but perhaps it can be compensated by checking it on headphones occasionally, or using a sub, or buying HS8.
    In future I'd like to try other Adam speakers, maybe from their top range like S1X or newer ones and see if this issue still exists.

    Wow, I was expecting the speakers to sound different to each other, and they really do ... and first impressions on changing over is that the HS7s sound a little tinny and then as the ears adjust, they sound crisp and clear with a more detailed midrange, and the A7v sound a little more muffled and blurred. I'd rather get a sub to go with the HS7s if there's a need for me to mix that much bass.
    I know other mixers and producers love the Adam Audio monitors, and I'm sure they are right, but as a cash-strapped person, I don't think that the additional cost is going to be worth it *for me* ...
    ... and that's great because I have a pair of HS7 ready to hook up and I was really wanting to hear the Adam Audio being sufficiently better to justify trading the HS7 in and picking them up, and I don't hear that from this video. So THANK YOU! Your selection of different music types was great, and I thought the A7Vs were better for the first track and then I preferred the HS7s for the rest, and that's good enough for me.
    I already have three powered subwoofers (from 8" up to a 150W 15") and while ;the HS7s don't have that configurability in the speakers for accommodating room acoustics, I know that there is software that will apply the EQ to the signal before it goes to the speakers to fix that, so I can tune them to my studio.

    Great breakdown @EdwardSmith, I have two HS8s for producing my show, and they're phenomenal. Almost got the Adam's but didn't know enough of the benefits (Your video honestly explained it better than the people at the store, however, they were pretty knowledgeable and seemed like they actually cared-unfortunately rare nowadays) I personally couldn't tell that much of a difference in person, and I wasn't doing any mixing or heavy audio stuff at the time. Literally a mono track for my show. I appreciate you for breaking down the added features, especially with that adaptive room sensing thing, and pretty cool how you can turn the ribbons on their side. Regardless of what you get, smart individual reading this online :) don't forget you need wires also, I can stand by the Mogami Gold as well. All four of my in the current signal chain are M. Golds.
    One other thing to consider, if you ARE producing music, I know the HS8s have the HS8S (Dedicated Subwoofer) which you may enjoy, but having a smaller footprint with bass out the front, also may be up for consideration. When you factor that in the price is almost a wash...unless you throw in the Adams dedicated sub as well.
    Would love to know more about the room functionality and that extra microphone thing, but have a feeling it's for specific high-end mix/master/recording stuff.
    Thanks again for the breakdown, look forward to your next videos and fancy that I think TH-cam is already serving me your one with the thumbnail of the 5 to 8 comparison HS8 and what quite possibly be the M-Audio I started with thinking 2 for $200 was "Top of the line" only to realize these others were 2-4x as much PER SPEAKER.

    Definitely better sound in the Yamaha HS7. More crystal clear and detailed sound. Adam Audio had more of a plastic sound. In terms of bass reproduction, perhaps the Adam Audio speaker had slightly stronger pressure. This was still not enough for me to choose the Adam Audio A7V. Yamaha would clearly be the first choice.

      The HS7 seem to be very mid-rangey, which could actually help a lot when mixing mid-range (the most important of all frequencies in the spectrum). On the other side, it worries me that the A7V''s mask the high mid range and you cannot clear things in that space...

  • @MrPAULYPOOH

    i actually prefer the sound of the yamaha. understood its far from a scientific test. the yamaha sound more open and airy. the adams sound a bit muffled and a bit crowded in the low mids. no idea how mixing on either monitor would translate to other systems. i cant see how the adams are worth the extra money from this example. without a doubt a doubt the yamahas are great speakers if positioned correctly in the right room. Edit: i prefer the adams now. more rounded. ha.

    There is some issues for me to understand why you puch for a bigger frequency range on the Adam Audio compaird to the Yamaha? In reality the Yamaha will have a bigger range as you cant hete tones that is higher then 20KHz..... And for me 51 years old have even difficult to hear higher then 14 kHz... You also say that the cone size that is bigger gives deaper base, but according to the figures the Yamaha gives a lower ase then the Adam Audio as it make one 1 Hz lower frequency according to the data you show... but yes, a bigger cone have a better ppossibility to move air, but that is not the same as low frequency...
