Adam Audio T7V Review | The BEST Low Cost Studio Monitor

  • The Adam Audio T7V's are by far the best studio monitor I've ever had. I've personally tried the Focal Alpha 65's and the Rokit KRK 5's. It was a close call between this speaker and the Yamaha HS7 speaker and to be honest, I am absolutely thrilled with my choice. Take it from me... if you're on a low budget, get these speakers. You won't regret it. They are beautiful!

    Great review, I went from the HS7's to the A7X's and noticed a big difference in sound and overall built quality. The most important feautures on these speakers is how great they sound at low volumes and the X-ART tweeter which helps with listenning fatique after long hours of producing. I would reccommend Adam audio but I would treat my room before upgrading as mentioned in this video.

    Never had use for proper studio monitors, so didn't realise they covered so much of the spectrum (Obvious when you think about it though 🤦‍♂️). Just checked my speakers: 64Hz - 30kHz with a subwoofer picking up 34Hz - 150Hz.

    These are awesome! I have them as smaller nearfields next to my ATCs. I transitioned from Rokits to these for nearfields, and they are so very nice. The fatigue is gone, the overhyped low end and general image is gone, it’s fantastic!
    My only gripe is that I find the midrange to be a little masked at times.

    After listening to a bunch of speakers in person I was torn between the Adam T5V and the Focal Alpha 50 EVOs for my small at home edit suite. I was drawn to the Focals because of their front facing base port (speakers will be somewhat close to the wall) but decided to order the Adams today because quality was close enough and the price point was hard to beat... I'm hoping this video validated my decision!

    i have these and they are wonderful. one thing that i learned is that nearfield monitors are not always great for listening at a distance. when i have folks over to the studio to record, monitoring at the mixing desk sounds great, but folks sitting in the couch aren’t hearing what i’m hearing. i decided to pair these with a matched subwoofer, and consequently the setup is great for both nearfield critical monitoring, and also casual listening with plenty of bass at a distance.

    I went from krk rockits to these, at first I was like these T7Z sound really thin but few years down the line, they are indeed awesome speakers. The stereo imagine on them is lush, due to my living I cant really turn them up that much but it turns out that's a plus as well, they are great at low volumes as well. between these and my akg k702 headphones I get a pretty good idea of the mix. I would say they do lack bass but once you get used to them you can gauge that well with headphones as well.

    I MAY try these from Adam Audio at some point, but not without installing some acoustic panels on the walls of my Living Room behind them. I have just gone for now with some monitors from Trumix (their AR5’s) that have a Front-facing Bass Port and thats why I went with those over the ones from Adam Audio.
    I have found my Trumix monitors to be quite clear enough in the higher registers because the Tweeters are made of a Silk-type of material, while the Woofers are made from Fiberglass. I also use some foam pads between the speaker & stand (as you should for de-coupling of some kind at least). My living-room already has enough Acoustical Treatment in the form of soft-furnishing, from some thick curtains, carpet with underlay and soft sofas.
    These are my 1st proper monitors and the difference has huge!! Thanks for the video!

    A typical dome piston tweeter has a ratio of 1:1 for watts to volume where as the Adam ribbon tweeter has a 4:1 ratio meaning it can shift a lot more air. This is because the surface area of the tweeters fold is much bigger. I used to crank the tweeters right up on my AX7s because they sound so gorgeous and silky smooth. My ears got so used to these tweeters that when I tried the more conventional dome piston types they sounded hissy and almost crude by comparison. Just to add Adam also make ribbon tweeters going up to 50KHZ which a dramatic improvement.

    Great that you made this video today, i ordered the T5V yesterday, now after your video I am thinking about cancelling on T5V and ordering the T7V, the difference in z price is 55 Euros, do you think it worth it?

    • @BeckySaifMusic
      @BeckySaifMusic  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I mainly got the T7V's for the additional power. The T5V's have a greater midrange performance from what I read when I did my research and I was looking for that extra power in my low end. When I owned my Focal Alpha 65s, I felt for a long time that I needed a sub to help me hear and feel the lower frequencies. So I wanted to avoid having that all over again. I have no regrets with the T7V's. My friend also owns the T5V's and he is happy with his purchase. He has a very small room though and a lot of awkward walls, so that extra power wasn't needed. It absolutely depends on the size of your room and whether you want that bit of extra power out of your speaker. I've enjoyed listening on both the T7V's and the T5V's. It's a tough call for sure but if your room is a medium - large size, go for the T7V's.

    • @65pancakes82
      @65pancakes82 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree with Becky on this. The midrange on the 5's is why I chose them over the 7s. The 7s did sound good, but I got along with the Tv5's just a little better.

    For the money, they are great monitors. I know they are near field monitors, but once you boost bass freq +2dB you can listen to the music and feel great pleasure. That's what I felt when I connected them to my DAC and computer. I just loved them! The stereo sound, scene, hi/mid/low frequencies - they are really fine. Maybe it shouldn't be compared this way, but I even found them sounding better than standalone stereo systems costing 3 times more. One thing is a kind of white noise which is noticeable when no music is playing.

      I love them for listening to music too. They are just a great all round speaker and by far the best in this price range. I didn't notice the noise on mine. I'm looking at the HS5, the 7 won't fit where I want but the 5's will.
    I don’t buy that upper frequency argument, Bower & Wilkins use it to sell their diamond tweeters, but I cannot see the argument.
    Frequency response is one graph to look at, but another is inter-modulation distortion and total harmonic distortion.
    If you can get these good you shouldn't need response above 20khz.
    The distortions are the reason you can't just EQ a spike out, as the response will lower but the distortion remains, so you just have a quiter distorted section of the response curve.

    Excellent review and subbed!. I am not a professional or music creator but I am thinking of opting for the smaller T5V for my computer desk to simply enjoy lossless audio, watching videos and gaming. I was thinking about the T7V but I live in a small apartment and as I understand it the T5V is meant to be a more enjoyable speaker for overall listening.. and the T7V is meant to better for mixing /production and for those that have larger rooms that require more volume and bass? Does anyone have any experience with both models?
    The volume 0db hard stop would have been nice like the Yamaha HS series and I personally prefer the LED on the back or atleast some way of turning it off if it was on the front. Can these speakers be left on all the time or should you install an in-line power switch?
    Was also thinking about getting the Genelec G One B's but thought the bottom end would be better on the T5V and a more enjoyable speaker.

I try to turn my speakers off when I leave the room but I know loads of people who just leave them on. Over a long period of time, the heat from being powered might degrade the components. Get the T5V's and try them out. I've found Genelecs don't have the same power but it's been a while since I listened to a pair.

    I own these and I feel anyone who doesn't like them is listening to crappy music or has no idea how to set them up. Hip hop and rap aren't worthy of these but play some Celine Dion or Whitney Houston or other great singers and you will be impressed with the ribbon tweeters for sure! I am a rocker and use them for guitar in the home studio and they are wonderful and accurate. I might even get the sub for drums and bass response.

    I think I'd buy a teaspoon of water if you were selling it, teaspoon not included.
    Okay, Becky, here's a thing: that reflected energy from the back of a speaker can actually be a good thing. It's called "bass reinforcement", and many bookshelf style speakers and monitors depend on corner or near wall placement for better performance. And the port isn't a bother as long as air can get to the port. Even an inch or two can work fine. And rear ports do two things: they can help hide port chuff (if there is any) as well as port resonances, and they avoid phase cancellations that occur with front ports when bass frequencies that overlap the woofer frequencies exit the port at a different time interval, and are thusly out of phase with the woofer. So rear ports and near wall placement ain't all bad.
    But the rest of your review? Aces, I'd have to say. Definitely aces. Keep 'em comin'!

    • @BeckySaifMusic
      @BeckySaifMusic  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for your comment. I'd have to disagree with you here however. Take note that the model above this one, the A7X's have the bass ports on the front of the speaker for improved performance. Having the bass port on the back, close to the wall, will cause the bass to reflect and congest in corners, making it boomy, muddy and resonant. I'm not really sure what point your trying to make exactly because it seems odd to say that placing a woofer/port against a wall is fine.

    I am hesitating between this T7V and Edifier S360DB, as my use aims mostly music listening and only occasional recording/mixing. From the specifications, frequency response, power, Edifier S360DB sounds to be better, and smaller satellites fit more on desk. The only thing I doubt is sound quality, as specs is just spec. Anyone has more opinion to share? Thanks!

    I can't understand the hype around the Adams. The midrange deficit is now well documented in numerous reviews and the low frequency is very muddy and detailed contoured in my opinion.
    The Presonus R65, for example, do a much better job with a similar tweeter.

    Bonjour, j'ai commandé sur AMAZON le presonus ERIS 5 XT, KRK 5 G4 et ADAM T5V.
    Le ERIS a des aigus présent, des médiums timides et des basses encore plus présente et pas très propres je dirais.
    Le KRK sonne réellement propre dans l'ensemble, je dirais peut être juste des médiums un peu colorés.
    Le ADAM..les aiguë sont limpide, les mediums magnifique, et les basses propre et très profonde dans les très basses pour un 5 pouces.

    I had the original Adam A7's...but was not thrilled with the stereo field(a bit too narrow for my taste,due to the sub-par waveguide. I actually like my Adam T5V's better(all the glorious bottom end & clarity of my old A7's,but with a wider sweet spot and less than half the price of my A7's! I'm really surprised that you even considered the Yamaha HS7's....I mean,just look at the spec-sheet of those damn things...a low end of only 43Hz and a high end of 30kHz?? Really? Are we supposed to buy into Yamaha's fudged HF numbers? It implies that the Yamaha's out-perform the Adams? Holy friggin' hell,what rubbish! Also....the HS-series are known for being overly bright in the mid-range....which begs the question...WHY are the Yamaha's so damn popular?? My mind is blown....
