- We have a new tradition here at Missouri Star: Triple Play! Once a month, Jenny, Misty, and Natalie each demonstrate their own, unique take on a favorite block, technique, or template. This week these talented Doan ladies are showing off three adorable X's and O's projects.
Jenny's Social Distanced Hugs quilt is made with 5 inch squares of precut fabric (charms). Jenny's fabric is Animal Crackers Charm Packs by Sweetwater for Moda Fabrics. This pattern is made special with sashing that creates cute little nine patch between each O. Jenny uses 2.5 inch precut squares (mini charms) to snowball her corners, but cutting your own out of 2.5 inch strips or yardage works great, too!
Natalie's Diamond Hugs quilt is also made with 5 inch squares of precut fabric (charms). Natalie's fabric is Tula Pink's True Colors Charm Packs by Tula Pink for FreeSpirit Fabrics. This quilt get its unique look from quick and easy wonky star legs added to each block.
Misty's Hearts and Kisses quilt is made with 10 inch squares of precut fabric (layer cake). Misty's fabric is Sending Love 10" stackers by My Mind's Eye for Riley Blake. This pretty Valentine's quilt is gorgeous with simple heart blocks added to the X's.
BONUS PROJECT: Misty used her scrap half square triangles to whip up a bonus Hearts and Kisses table runner made with flying geese!

You ladies are the best❤️
Brilliant ladies. Love the triple play. Everything is so different 😊
Triple plays are the best!! You girls rule!
Bonne année les Girls SANTE & PATIENCE ! Very nice projects, LOVE It 😘😘😘
Made the Social Distanced Hugs quilt today - in self-isolation because evidently I didn't distance enough from my teen who got COViD, likely at work. Oh, well, was a fun way to spend the day with dinosaurs. Thanks for making the tough easy - I learned to quilt by watching your videos and have made more than 40 various quilts for Victoria's Quilts, and nearly the same for friends and family (many of yours!) since I started in 2019. I'm addicted - to quilting and to your videos. Cheers!
I love this! My daughter and I sign our correspondence with xoxoxo, and your Nine Patch X's & O's was the inspiration for the quilt I made for her. I even purchased the background fabric at MSQ back in 2014, and I got to meet Jenny that day. 😊
These are all so awesome. Jenny, your quilt is like a hug being squished in by surrounding squares but a snuggly, happy hug!
Misty's is so ready for Valentine's day and so sweet hearts and kisses!
Natalie's quilt is a challenge, but y'all made it appear doable and I'm gonna do it! Something about how one circle merges into the next, and those colors, wow! Can't decide whether to wear it or eat it!😄
Thanks, ladies, y'all make us feel great and "included", so important these days.😚😚😚
All 3 of these quilts are beautiful. I made your original X's & O's quilt for my daughter's twin bed 😁.
I have been looking for a Valentine's day quilt project for my husband...for our queen bed.
Now I love that fact that you guys are always giving me reasons to buy more fabric lol 🤣🤣🤣. I tell him it's for a new quilt haha. Beautiful job you guys as always....God bless and stay safe.
I think Misty and I are kindred spirits. I also Keep everything i can do make more and have a giant (getting organized) scrap pile.
I’m planning to do a sampler with all my off cuts from each project as a memory quilt. Pretty excited for that.
I usually add xoxo when I email a friend. I certainly hope it doesn't die out! Thanks for three new ideas. Love, love, love your tutorials! xoxo Jill
Those are fabulous! Everyone is a winner! I would make them all and seriously thinking about it. I have some old Moda i need to use Love Letters and the one the year before it too so Hugs and Hearts for sure. It's the perfect Valentine's quilt.
One more quilt and I will have made one for everyone in the immediate family. I've been struggling to decide on a pattern....then I saw Jenny's quilt today. The name is very appropriate because of the recipient's job, where she has had to be very mindful of social distancing to keep herself and her family safe. Thanks Missouri Star for another winner in my book. (P.S. Just finished your "Happy Hearts" for a Christmas gift. I added an extra border with mini-hearts, made the same as in the quilt, as corner blocks. I have made so many of your designs. I just love them.)
Thanks so much, Kathleen! Glad to hear you're finding wonderful quilt patterns to make for your family... we'd love to see those quilts sometime!
I am loving this . So ingenious and so easy. Thanks
My Grandma always signed her cards to me with xoxo!! I’m doing my best to keep it going, using it as part of my sign off!! Thanks, Jenny, for bring back a special memory. xoxo :D
Ps... Misty I love, love, love your quilt!! Gorgeous!
I sign my note XO and am knitting XO hats for my 12 great nephews. I love this quilt
I can see modern-style butterflys in Natalie's quilt. Really great ideas. Thank you all for sharing your talents. I love Triple Play days.
Thank you ladies lovely. Quilts and fabric choices.
Ok ladies you each made beautiful quilts. Natalie’s reminds me of summer and cotton candy. Come on, red and white hearts and x’s - beautiful. And Jenny I love the comfy feel of yours. Love, love, love them!!!! XOXO
I especially LOVE the idea of showing people that it should be FUN to quilt and create... !GB

I look forward to Triple Play Thursday. I love all three equally. Nice job ladies.
So simple! And what makes it even more fun is having both Misty & Natalie with you , Jenny. It's so fun to watch you all.
All three are such great patterns! But Missy's tip to sew the second seam on the half squares to make the most use of the leftover fabric was the icing on the cake! LOVE that idea! Thanks you, ladies for keeping me inspired!
Beautiful ladies making beautiful quilts. And Misty's is just in time to make for Valentine's Day. Thank you for another fabulous triple play, Doan women!! :-D ~Diana K.

Hi you three talented Ladies,
Quilting is an adventure, and you are the guides in this jungle of possibilities.
It s a fascination to follow your tutorials and to see the results of every blog from you, is enthusiastic, and I like that a lot.
Only the changing of a piece and it becomes a new blog is hammer and so awesome.
Thank you, for sharing your ideas with us, cause that s not usual, due to the fact, that normally there could be the problem with the copyright.
So thank you so, so much for your effort, to give us an understanding of Quilting, either for beginners or artists, everyone can have a lot of fun, since your engagement.
Keep it up please !!
Many kisses and greats 🥰

This Triple play was so fun, Love that You each used different fabrics to create 3 different looking quilts that are super easy to make. My favorite of the 3 right now is Misty's quilt. We have a new Baby in the Family so I have it on my heart to make a baby quilt, the Hearts, hugs/kisses pattern fits the occasion perfectly. The nice thing about these charm pack projects is I could do all of them very easily which eliminates having to choose just 1 & I love that. You ladies are Killin it with these awesome tutorials :) Thank You so much

All 3 are great quilts and look simple to make. I don't think I can pick a favorite! Also, I was hit with nostalgia when Jenny showed the sample quilt at the beginning. I made a quilt several years ago with that exact same fabric, and it's still one of my favorites.
