It's Triple Play Day, and the Doan girls are ready to share three new projects made with the Connected Stars quilt block:
Natalie's Connected Stars is made with precut layer cake squares from Poppies and Plumes by Lila Tueller for Riley Blake. She makes itty bitty half-square triangles using the Make-8 method on charm squares, and her half-rectangle triangles are trimmed easily with the Bloc Loc.
Misty's Connected Stars is a supersized version of Natalie's quilt. It's made with layer cakes from Enchanted Bloom by Stephanie Organes for Andover Fabric. Construction is the same, but everything is scaled up.
Like Misty, Jenny went jumbo with her Connected Stars quilt. But her star centers are filled with half-square triangles-a small change that transforms the look of this pattern. Her layer cake squares come from Summersault by Tamara Kate for Windham Fabrics.

It is sweet to see how Natalie has blossomed in front of the camera. She used to be so shy, now she’s a GREAT teacher. Love you Natalie.
I love Natalie too.❤ she's a great teacher & has no annoying habits!!
I haven’t watched in awhile due to illness but I have to say Natalie looks beautiful & I love her quilt , I’m sure that really took some time to finish. It sure would for me. As I get older it’s harder for me to do certain quilt projects bc of my hands but all three are pretty quilts! Keep them coming, Love your Videos.🩷🌈☀️🌈Vicki
Best part of the video: Jenny to Natalie "I know where you can get a new one." Hysterical!
When I first saw Natalie's quilt, I thought of a QOV for a women veteran. Love it.
My thoughts exactly. Or with more masculine prints for a male veteran. Our QOV veterans love stars!
The line that Natalie used is a very beautiful patriotic color variation! The tones are just gorgeous!
Where you cut the layer cake into 5" squares, you could use multiple packs of charm packs. I love, love, love Natalie's quilt!
You could but it will be much more expensive. In Uk it would be approx £46 to £58 a significant difference.
When I shop for charm packs/layer cakes I check out the prices of each and then multiply the charm pack price by 4 - I know I can get 4 charms from one layer cake piece. But the prices here in the US have skyrocketed on both - but I still swallow and buy them anyway😁😁😁. It’s not that I don’t have any! I just keep falling in love with beautiful fabrics😁😁😁😁😁
@@sandybruce9092 I don't usually buy them. I almost always buy fat quarter or half yard bundles.
All the quilts are beautiful. However, I like Natalie's best. I like the small pieces because there isn't a lot of blank space to consider.❤
Another Triple-Play where I can't decide which one I like best. Guess I'll just have to try and make all three.
You ladies did it again! What a way to start my Friday! Glad I am a night owl!
Oh boy, I dont know which one I like better. They are all absolutely beautiful.
Love all three Connected Stars quilts Great job ladies!!!
On Jenny"s quilt you could applique something like a heart in the center of the block. Love the new quilts.
Triple play is always great. The ladies have different approaches. I think that helps individual quilters decide how they can use blocks to make a quilt their own.
Natalie is so talented!!
love the secondary pattern in Misty's quilt with what I call the ZAP!
I think a new mat given as a gift just because it's Tuesday, even if it's Thursday is much needed. I think it would be much appreciated. Because buying ourselves something when we have something that still seems serviceable is very hard to do. But when we get a gift it is so much easier to donate the serviceable and start using the new one. 😊
I was late this month watching but I just love triple play!! This one was one of my favorites!!
Natalie is her mother's daughter. I am enjoying her more and more.
I look forward to Triple Play every month and love all you create. You all are amazing!!! Thank you so much!!! 😍
I used the original runner pattern last year. However I cheated and used fat quarters and my accuquilt to cut the pieces. My blocks ended up slightly larger than the original but it made a heck of a cute baby quilt!!!
Awesome pattern with so many sizes that represents the same cuts. Thank you for a great early morning, let’s get started
You all are super friends.
Absolutely beautiful! The panel would be perfect pieced on the backing. ❤
I love all the quilts, don’t know how you keep coming up with ideas. Hope you don’t run out of ideas anytime soon. Looking forward to many more. You all work together so well.
Natalie your quilts are always different and modern. However you have really outdone yourself with this one!!!! I will be making this one for sure!
So creative Natalie!!!! Thanks you! ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Love this! Thank you for bringing it to your Triple Play!!!❤❤
Natalie, your quilt is beautiful!
I just watched your original tutorial on making this pattern as a table runner last week.
I got so excited that I made one myself. I loved how it looked so much, I kept making more blocks. I made 90 of them. 😂
Thanks for showing how to make the border blocks! I'll get right on it to finish my quilt.
You ladies are the best!
Thank you for sharing your talents with us. ❤
I made Natalie’s Connecting Star Table Runner a little while ago. While I was making it I thought it would be fun to make bigger stars. Thank you Misty for doing the math for me. I love that I can use the same ruler I bought to do the table runner! I already have 12 blocks made for a quilt!
Natalie's looks complicated but she made it look easy.
I just love triple play week, I have my calendar circled on that day, thank you all so much for sharing your talents. ❤❤❤❤❤
Great block. I love all of the quilts and fabrics! Thank you, ladies. ❤
Thank you so much ladies for showing us such beautiful projects, I ❤ all of your quilts they are really amazing. , well done 👍
I love things look complicated and when you see how to do it wow. I can do that .Thanks ladies you all rock. ❤❤💜💙😍💚💛
These are really cool star quilt ideas! thank you so much for even more inspiration!
You all are the greatest. I love, love all your triple play videos. They keep getting better and better..❤️ keep up the good work. Thank you
Looooove all the quilts! Fabulous ❤
I'm not surprised that y'all came up with the Connected Stars!! It was such a hit with Natalie. I made one then, I'm going to have to make another one because I left it in the classroom when I left. I love the big ones too! Love the Triple Plays & so much inspiration from 3 different brains. Everyone is looking great & Happy Quilting!! 🧵
Love that block in all its iterations, and such lovely fabric lines. Thank you all.
I love this so much. A favorite.
been waiting for this triple play since natalie's connected stars table runner! i'm so intrigued by the look of quilts that you can't see where one one block ends and another begins. they look so complex and complicated, almost impossible. but you guys make it look easy.
Three beautiful quilts again. Thanks. 👏♥️🇦🇺
I love Triple Play....all 3 of your are so inspiring, but I have to say that Natalie absolutely amazes me every time. Thanks, girls!!!
For the 8 at a time HSTs, I've seen folks draw the vertical, horizontal and diaganal lines before sewing on both sides of the diagonal lines. This way we have lines to cut on no matter which way we cut first.
Yayy I loved this pattern. It really messes with your mind when putting these blocks together, and when your only using colors.I loved the challenge of making this pattern.
* 4 colors
I have 3 faves today. All are wonderful and look so fun. Thank you lovely ladies 🩷💜
My absolute favorite
Just love this triple play
❤👏🏻❤👏🏻❤👏🏻
Your shirts all match Jenny’s quilt! Great video. ❤
Love this design! Ladies, y'all have done a great job interpreting it!
That would be awesome with different blues that have the gold specks on them, then the stars as yellows. Really awesome quilts!
This quilt is beautiful. Enjoy the way you made it. Thank you
Three fabulous quilts again ladies. You are amazing
Love it. Thanks ladies for more enjoyment and inspiration.
Three great quilts!
Love this!
Gorgeous!
Beautiful quilts! Love block loc rules!
Love triple play day!
Love, love, love all of them!
Love watching your vlogs, sometimes you just need the idea to make a project, thanks Jason
Made the Connected Stars table runner with fun, bright, happy fabrics. Absolutely love it! Glad to see the tutorial for larger sizes. Thinking of making one with an All American layer cake that I couldn’t pass up
Three beautiful quilts, you did it again ladies ❤❤
Love all three
What neat star quilts! I love that they are wonky shaped. Great job, ladies!!
I love this block. Thank you so much for sharing.
Natalie, your quilt is stunning! I ❤ it!
Natalie great quilt! A bit of work but so worth it!
Las tres ideas preciosas y las telas realmente hermosas!!! 😍😍 Gracias chicas 👏👏👏
Wow just wow!! You gals hit a homerun with this. Love all 3. They are on my must make list. Thanks for this pattern
I love these quilts!!!
Great job ladies💙🙏🏻
Good evening ladies, Well, now you have confuddled me, because i don't know now which one is the easiest to do. Your 3 different approaches seemed so easy when you made them up and each one was easier on my left handed brain (yes, i'm with you Jenny in the corrifisted brigade ((left handed)) ). It was nice seeing Natalie make the tiny this time and she scored a hat trick with it. Nat, you look so well and you hair is shining, it is lovely to see you happy and well lass. Misty flower, i love how you are growing your hair again, it suits your face and height being that bit longer(old hairdresser). THank you ladies for sharing your two block quilts that look oh so different depending on the size. Jenny's is that wee bit more open and free looking, where Misty's has a settled down approach and Natalie's is just looks like it is bursting with energy. Have fun ladies, sending you crafty hugs from Norah, Glenochil, Scotland
You make this very interesting! Everyone has a different eye! I also appreciate that you stick with the basic standard Kona Solid!
Love the two with the border blocks!!!
When I first saw the video of Misty making the table runner, I thought, I’ll make two. Join them together and make a baby blanket.
Love this pattern!
I love triple play. ❤ Everyone chose such fun, bright colors for this one. Thank you Misty for your tips on how you sorted your colors. Natalie's looked so fabulously random, but Misty's tip made me think, "I could do Natalie's bitty blocks without losing my mind." 😂
This is one of my favorite . You ladies are amazing! When the original tutorial came out, I made it a small baby quilt, so fun.
Beautiful and creative work again! There is an interesting "hooked whorl" secondary pattern you can see (in the white) that forms between the stars. I wonder how it would look to emphasize that pat of the pattern with, say, a different colour? This is why quilting is so fascinating. Thanks ladies!
I love triple play! Beautiful work ladies!
Love the larger design. Always so fun to see each of your color choices, Amazing!
Natalie, you look Wonderful!!! Your version of the Connected Stars is Great!!! Of course I Do Love all three Versions!!❤
I can’t wait to try this block. It’s so versatile and I can’t see it in different color ways. Just amazing and unique. Great job!
Love all three of you and your talents. TY for sharing with us.
These quilts are so beautiful. Natalie, you hit it way, way out of the park. Gorgeous!
Natalie is so talented
They are all wonderful!🎉
I wish I had thought of border blocks!! I made a big wall quilt with an enlarged connected square block.
The blocloc rectangle ruler is my new favorite ruler set.
i love the quilt Natalie. the finishing blocks finish it off well
All beautiful quilts. I did make Natalie’s Connected Star table runner. I enjoyed making it. Like Natalie mentioned to take your time. I made one block so I had something to look at when you start making the rest of your blocks.
I really love Kona fabric and I’m thunking about just getting a bolt of the white and a bolt of the snow. The snow is really nice and just a little step or so down from the white - I’m a hand appliquér and love the snow for a background!
This is such a fun looking block. Thank you ladies.
You are amazing ladies
Beautiful quilts love it
Love this star block. Thank you Doan Girls for another fun tutorial. I hope to try this one.
I love all three of these. Thank you
3 wonderful quilts and three lovely ladies!
Just love all 3 versions!!! 🩷
Awesome tutorial. Thanks
All three are super-cute quilt designs. I think I’d like to make Jenny’s, because I love that look of a background square on point in the centres. I might try to do the whole thing scrappy, because I’d like to use solids for the “star legs”, to make it a bit less scrappy-looking. Love all the fabric lines you used though. And I want to try Natalie’s because small looks so darned cute! Thanks Doan ladies, for another wonderful Triple Play tutorial. So many ideas!! ❤❤❤
Great video beautiful ladies! Natalie, you look stunning. We love you guys!😊💕💕💕
I really liked all of these quilts, the 1/2 rectangle block Jenny did would be really pretty as it is with sashing in between the blocks, without making them into stars.
Natalie's quilt is great, but I also like Misty's. Thank you for the video ladies 😊
