Apparently, those who disliked Hayden's performance never watch the original Star Wars. He plays the part just like Mark Hamill did as Luke. As Lucas directed. " I was gonna go into town to get some power converters!!" That's the point of the character

Brady Carrigan i agree with that their not as bad as people think. It has a good story but not a good screen play Very messy dialogue and some of the fights felt more like they where dancing
George Lucas literally confirmed that Hayden acted in the exact way that he envisioned. Anakin is a very conflicted person, this is shown in the Clone Wars show. It wasn’t bad acting at all, it was Hayden doing what Lucas told him to do.
Hayden Christensen doesn't deserve all the hate he gets for playing Anakin. Yes the writing wasn't that great and George Lucas didn't trust his actors and over-directed them down to the smallest detail. Also, all things considered, Anakin is 19 in episode 2, so you can call him whiney, but the complaining is something all teens do. Throw in the fact that he has feelings for a girl he's not supposed to have and doesn't have anyone to talk to about it.
Lucas DOESN'T direct his actors. That's the problem. He is more concerned with the greenscreen flapdoodle than the human emotions onscreen. He is renowned for giving zero direction to actors. I don't know where you got the idea he is a micro-manager. He's not. The only reason he might do many takes is not because he wants a better performance, but because the actors aren't standing in the right positions for the flapdoodle to happen.
All I know is when I saw the film wasn't as happy with it as I was with the previous one. The made Hayden's character so conflicted so emotional I expected him to have a full blown blow out. Then we find out he's in love with? WOW
It is. Meanwhile, when I saw Sofia Coppola on this list, I was like: “That doesn’t surprise me a whole awful lot.” Additionally, not once have I even seen J-Lo’s “Gigli,” Cage’s reboot of “The Wicker Man,” Sandler’s “Jack and Jill,” etc., but Christensen’s performance in “Star Wars, Episode II” doesn’t sound any worse than those.
He was terrible. People try to use the bad writing as an excuse. Ive seen him act in other movies, and it isnt much better. His "anger" is pathetic and he always sounds like a whiny emo kid. His line delivery is absolutely awful. If you like him, so be it....but objectively, his acting is mediocre at best.

@@alexandreaj5596 I think Hayden Christiansen is a nice guy. That’s not a question in my opinion. The guy, unfortunately, is quite sterile in performances. I think he was a bad choice for Darth Vader in mind Darth Vader (based on the initial trilogy) was supposed to be highly charged emotionally, turbulent, and powerful. That message was just lost in the prequels entirely, as unfortunately Haydens tantrums lacked all of that. For Anikan to want to go bad, it should of been clear and obvious as to how powerful he became when he was - which was never made clear enough to justify the choice of him doing so. At all in fact. That’s the major flaw of the prequels, partly by performance, partly by poor storytelling. The Prequels HAD TO BE dark in order pull off the story - but instead, George Lucas cuts scenes of this, removes them altogether in places, and instead adds Jar Jar and Wookies instead to soften things up and please the 7 yr olds. The prequels weren’t terrible, but were widely considered a failured venture... I don’t blame Hayden Christiansen entirely for that, although he came across very sterile (at odds with the character entirely). I blame George Lucas mainly for the failures of the prequels - as irritatingly, those prequels would of been better if they’d of been fully fledged in a darker direction.

Anthony Barratt Then how come Ewan McGregor and Natalie Portman were able to do a better job despite working with the same script? Not to mention Portman and McGregor had to face the same backlash as Christensen for those SW prequels, yet they both bounced back and went on to make amazing movies - even winning actual awards (not Razzies) in Portman’s case - whereas all the movies Hayden *_Christensen_* starred in after SW were abysmal and bombed spectacularly.
@ LucienSabre To be fair, Hayden got the worst lines out of the 3. At least in Attack of the Clones; not that that excuses his terrible delivery of them; at least by the 3rd movie he got WAY better. Portman was decent in both movies, but McGregor? Holy shit, he was the best part of the whole trilogy! Did he really receive backlash for his excellent portrayal of Obi-Wan? Or was it for just being part of what are generally considered 'bad' films of a great franchise?
@@roigergoololo3966 The second mostly. Natalie Portman suffered backlash for both her role - I've read articles say Amidala is one of her worsts - and for being part of the trilogy who ruined the franchise.

Don't go "until ep 3". The EP3 has the poorest writing of all of them, it's the darkest episode, the more action packed, with the most "punchlines", but the character writing is by far the poorest. HeyIamNick the first part of what you said there is why his acting was genius. Anakin didn’t know how to feel because all of the Jedi were constantly telling him that he can’t be sad and can’t mourn the loss of his mother because that would lead to fear which leads to the dark side. Anakin was supposed to be an emotionless soldier, so the best way to portray him was exactly how Hayden Christensen did.
Liam Rooney dude acting like you don’t know how to feel and acting like a piece of toast isn’t the same fucking thing. He SUCKED as Anakin because he’s just not that good of an actor to actually portray the complexity and emotional range. He was capable of portraying 2 emotions properly and that’s already being generous.
And it was not a great idea by Lucas. One of the problems that led to Disney buying Star Wars was his ego. Unfortunately, he was surrounded by yes-men.
Exactly, anakin is a child raised as a slave, spent 12 years without a mom, introverted, surrounded by space wizards who dont teach him modern literature; makes complete sense why he was weird and creepy when he finally meets the girl he lived since the age of 9. After attack of the clones and spending more time with padme he becomes more romantic and passionate as shown in the clone wars. People should stop saying that hayden is bad actor for portraying a perfect character, just say you dont like ani as a character cause he is not in your liking.
Hayden Christensen was such an amazing actor in my own opinion. It fits the attitude of Anakin Skywalker, a boy who was impatient and was always being too hard on himself. Hayden literally killed the role, I can’t believe or understand why he is in this list. He’s one of my favourite actors as well.
@Andy Salter Harrison Ford wasn't that good and he himself has said so in interviews (he doesn't even like the character). And yea I think he was better than Carrie Fisher, Alec and Mark Hamill. It doesn't mean I didn't like their roles and the way they played them but Hayden was just my favorite. I think in the movies Carrie lacked personality; Alec didn't portray obi wan nearly as good as Ewan McGregor, being just an old man wandering waiting to die and imo Mark Hamill only shined in episode 6. Despite the script, Hayden, or should I say Anakin, was one of the few (if not the only one) characters that actually presented development and personality throughout the episodes, not to mention the only character in the entire franchise to have struggles and moral values and managed to pass them onto the viewer. The growth into the hero messiah and downfall into the villain was brilliantly portrayed by the actor that you can actually feel his struggles and regrets. I mean come on, episode 3, do I have to say more? That was the best fight in the whole franchise. His stare spoke a thousand words. If you don't agree with me that's fine, everyone is entitled to their opinion and I can understand how hardcore SW fans can be so I will not dissuade your argument, but this is mine. Han solo is just a typical cool guy, Old Obi wan is a Jake Skywalker, Luke is a generic hero and Leia is a generic princess with no power of will or freedom of choice. All these characters are just playing the role of filling/linking plot instead of being actually meaningful for the story. Han is there just to provide a ship, Leia is there just as a reason for Luke to meet Vader and Old Jake kenobi is just there to make sure Luke meets Leia to meet Vader. But I digress as that is the script to blame, but performance wise, I think Harrison Ford, no matter how much I actually like the actor and the character, looks forced. Carrie, again, no personality. Alec simply a Jake Skywalker and Luke a generic hero portrayal. I loved the movies and the franchise, but come on, despite the golden bikini scene, did you actually feel anything for the characters that you mentioned? Were you touched when Leia said she loved Han? Did the obi wans death actually shock you? From all these characters and actors the only one that actually showed emotions was Luke and despite the performance of him mourning obi wan and the final battle, I didn't feel a drop of empathy for the character or the actor. Obi wan dies, life goes on. Vader dies, life goes on. It's almost like he forgotten the characters every time a new episode comes out. The only character I actually felt emotions for was Anakin. Anger, sadness, confusion, empathy. All that in every episode. His actions, life choices and overall, his life, actually had an impact on the character and on the actor portraying it. Only Hayden managed to transmit emotions beyond just showing them and if you think otherwise feel free to tell me why I'm wrong, I'll gladly read and reply :)
@Andy Salter Also, I don't get how you're that surprised about Carrie Fisher. I mean, any of the actors you mentioned already did a better job in leaps and boundries than Carrie...
This feels kinda wrong to blame the actors, they didnt write the characters, like Johnny Depp and Arnold are really good actors and they delivered the characters the way that they were written, so i feel like this video should be top worst written characters or something
I know it was campy but I enjoyed Arnold as Mr Freeze. The major problem with the movie was too many big named stars that had to be given major roles. If I am correct, wasn't this the one that Tim Burton backed out of?
Anakin had to be emotionally unstable for his eventual turn towards the dark side, every dark act he did was based on emotion, grief or anger.. Hayden played his character to perfection..
Hayden Christensen??? *How is this possible! This is getting out of hand! * Also was I the only person who came here when a meme video came out saying Hayden's performance was said to be bad here? Hayden didn't play it bad, THE SCRIPT SAID SO!
1) Kristin played Bella exactly how she was written, so she actually did a really good job. 2) Hayden didn’t do bad, his character was written poorly. 3) how is #3 not #1?
1) "Bella gaped, opening and closing her mouth like a dying fish. She stared blankly, almost as though she was confused by the process of breathing." ☑ Brilliant job! 2) Agreed.
Yet Hayden was surrounded by other actors who had the same script who aren't as singled out for their performances as much as Hayden. Bad scripts disadvantage actors ,yes, but better actors can salvage a performance that avoid critical lashing and dwell in the realm of mediocrity. Lesser actors will stick out a mile as the worst part of a bad production. In this case, Hayden is the weakest link

George Lucas literally confirmed that Hayden acted in the exact way that he envisioned. Anakin is a very conflicted person, this is shown in the Clone Wars show. It wasn’t bad acting at all, it was Hayden doing what Lucas told him to do.
Some of these are not bad performances but bad scripts choices.🤨
Exactly
Script isn’t supposed to suppress ur acting skills 💀
@@ian-connerprince7768 yes it is, if the script says to u make something, u do that, thats not actors fault
Facts
Lucas DOESN'T direct his actors. That's the problem. He is more concerned with the greenscreen flapdoodle than the human emotions onscreen. He is renowned for giving zero direction to actors. I don't know where you got the idea he is a micro-manager. He's not. The only reason he might do many takes is not because he wants a better performance, but because the actors aren't standing in the right positions for the flapdoodle to happen.
Hayden still acted awful...if the bad writing was the problem, Ewan couldn’t have been as great as he is

Than don't name your video "Top 20 Worst Acting Performances of all time"
Exactly
Lol
FACTS THANK YOU
It's kinda sad, though. It's not always the actor's fault. If they've got a bad script or director, even the best in acting can look bad.
For sure! If Tommy Wiseau would have had a better writer and director he could have been incredible!

*POV: YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE CLONE WARS AND YOU TALK ABOUT STAR WARS*
WHERE IS THE LAST AIRBENDER LIVE ACTION. there is so much bad acting in that one
We need a list called top 20 worst acting moments in that ‘film’
I watch that movie to know what an actor shouldn't do.
Hayden Christensen was awesome in Star Wars. Especially he nailed his transition to the Sith.
coughWORSTSUPPORTINGACTORcough....
He was the best when he was angry
He was decent in Revenge of the Sith. But in Attack of the Clones it was just awkward to watch him. Ewan McGregor and Christopher Lee saved that movie from being unwatchable.
His anger before fighting Obi-wan was super forced. He sounded awkward and unsure if he should yell or simply speak in a quieter but deadly tone. Soooo... he yelled and it was awful.
His “I HATE YOU” reminded me of 13 year old me when my parents grounded me
@@dpax2195 nah fam
This is such an insult to put Hayden on here. He was a great cast for Vader
Exactly!
He looked the part, yes, but his acting was terrible.
@John Cena After the Obi Wan series, he definitely was a great cast.
@@karnerblue7658 Yall say this without ever saying why it was terrible
And then yall say its because it was cringe or corny but you also dont say why it was cringe or corny because that would prove its the writing.
The moment I saw Hayden in the thumbnail I thought
Him? On the worst acting list? It's treason, then
Johnny Depp was not a bad actor. He's one of the best actors of our time and I stan him. His acting is just his own style. It's not awful, its unique.
Thank you
But he has starred in terrible movies like Mortdecai and The Lone Ranger.
Also, he is a great actor, but he has some bad performances. He's not an acting God
George Lucas himself said he loved Hayden Christensen's performance as Anakin Skywalker. Anakin was poorly written as a character. In fact, this countdown has the wrong name. It should be titled: Top 20 worst written characters played by good actors. If only WatchMojo could get their countdown names right.
ADD Waltz's Blofeld to ur list
You're going by George Lucas' judgment of acting?
@@jp3813 If that was the case then Natalie Portman should've sucked in later movies and had her career just bomb.
@@tcrpgfan Nobody in this thread was even talking about Portman in the first place.
@@jp3813 No they weren't, but they WERE judging someone's acting ability by the quality of the script. Hayden Christensen has been in other things and he himself wasn't terrible, in them. He just had shit dialogue to deal with. Same with Natalie Portman.
Sees hayden christensen in thumbnail: I hate watch mojo, its course and roughand irritating, and it gets every where in the recomended tab.
hayden actually nailed the roll people just don’t like the character of adolescent / young adult anakon skywalker
Me who sees Hayden Christensen at number 5: what, how can you do this, this is outrages, it's unfair!!! Hayden Christensen performed Anakin very well
Hayden’s portrayal as Anakin was brilliant. Y’all just shut up
his performance was robotic af. His voice was just girly and monotone. Sure the script was bad but he's just not a good actor either. The only time where he's toleratable is when he's in the Vader suit so we don't see his bland facial expressions and when JEJ voices the character so we don't hear his monotone voice.
Tessa Lee it was I really enjoyed him
HeyIamNick the first part of what you said there is why his acting was genius.
HeyIamNick it’s sad how wrong you are
Hayden acted exactly the way George wanted.
Its says performance yes george told him what to say but his performance was wank
Not just little experience in acting but also campy dialogue, and maybe some not so stellar direction.
@@nicholascahyadi2770 This is complete BS. You are utterly clueless.
Watchmojo putting Hayden and Johnny on the list:"I don't fear you, "
Every one in the comments:"then you will die braver than the most."
Anakin was great this is bs.
Was my fav char from the entire SW franchise.
Not your typical weeab hell yeah ✊
@Andy Salter lmao why are u getting so Salty wtf?
This feels kinda wrong to blame the actors, they didnt write the characters, like Johnny Depp and Arnold are really good actors and they delivered the characters the way that they were written, so i feel like this video should be top worst written characters or something
I know it was campy but I enjoyed Arnold as Mr Freeze. The major problem with the movie was too many big named stars that had to be given major roles. If I am correct, wasn't this the one that Tim Burton backed out of?
14:21 "I accuse you of anti prequel behaviour. The court finds you guilty and sentences you to be shot."
*_#1 Sophia Coppola_* Imagine if Winona Ryder pulled down the role instead. Oi! What a friggin' shame!
I just wondered that....I had forgotten how she was the perfect age then.
It would still be an average movie with one more grear actor/actress
good thing she moved onto directing
DJ Lizzy B that movie sucked FFC should have left it at 2 acclaimed movies. It’s not Sofia’s fault - it’s her daddy’s
yeah FFC got greedy
Anakin had to be emotionally unstable for his eventual turn towards the dark side, every dark act he did was based on emotion, grief or anger.. Hayden played his character to perfection..
Lucas had a horrible script for the prequels. It's not Christensen's fault
Yeah I think he did really good for what he was given
Well give him some credit he did write obi-wan
DuckTheCat ASMR yeah Lucas did some great things but also some not so great thing
@@Faux_Fox_ obi wan was flat and boring in those movies
Lucas has a good imagination but crappy dialogue-writing skills. Always.
Hayden Christensen??? *How is this possible! This is getting out of hand! *
Also was I the only person who came here when a meme video came out saying Hayden's performance was said to be bad here?
Hayden didn't play it bad, THE SCRIPT SAID SO!
I think watchmojo just hates Sandler and Christensen
What do you mean you think?
Nick Ferrett true.
No, no...they truly do suck
So do others lol
I THINK SO
Steven Segal in ANYTHING is the worst acting.
I honestly don't know y my mom likes his movies so much
Lmao
@@uzidagod Got the same thing with my dad 😂
I don’t know but my parents likes him a lot and all his movies. 🤷🏻♀️
Steven Segal's acting is actually the reason many people love his movies. Perhaps acting is simply a matter of taste.
2) Agreed.
She legit acts the same in every film she's in,like she's a wooden plank.
And how is number 20 not in the top 3
shut up skank.
She had one expression for almost everything
And the same xpression in Snow White and the huntsman
That’s what was annoying
When I see Hayden on the list: It's Treason Then
ACTIVATES RED LIGHTSABER.
Sees Anakin Skywalker / Hayden Christensen
It’s treason the
Putting hayden here for the star wars prequels is the same as putting Emilia Clarke here for game of Thrones SE 8
Not the actors fault but the writers
Yet Hayden was surrounded by other actors who had the same script who aren't as singled out for their performances as much as Hayden. Bad scripts disadvantage actors ,yes, but better actors can salvage a performance that avoid critical lashing and dwell in the realm of mediocrity. Lesser actors will stick out a mile as the worst part of a bad production. In this case, Hayden is the weakest link
@@lindomthembu4017 For me Natalie was worst than him, she is indeed a great actress but in SW she was very "average" compare to him, who was a new face. But still like her though as Padme.
Except he’s been terrible in all the other stuff he’s been in too, otherwise you might have a point haha
Take Hayden off this his performance was great
Terence Jordan hell no
@@hamallahaidara8468 hell yeah
It wasn't tho. The script was already really bad and Hayden's line delivery just made it worse, he can't say a line naturally to save his life.
I know its been said here already but Il still say again. Hayden should not be here. His monotone delivery is based on Vader's voice
Travolta has had more career ups and downs than an elevator.
Travolta wasn't that bad in that film. It's not as awful as people make it out to be. Not good, but I've seen much, much worse. Fanastic Four reboot, for instance.
😂😂😂😂😂 I like JT but good joke.
Johnny Depp as well, don't you think?
He dances well. His acting sucks.
i don’t think battle field earth is really his type of movie
Hayden was supposed to be awkward and cringy as he is a teen with no experience flirting because it's against the Jedi sode
You’re tearing me apart Watchmojo!!
based
Why are you so hysterical?!
MegaMitchell07 Do you understand life? Do you?!
Did no one get the damn joke?
Wow, no one gets the joke, THE ROOM, 🙄
Hey, back off. Hayden did a great job as Anakin Skywalker. Sure, the acting wasn't Oscar worthy, since, you know, it wasn't a DRAMA movie, but he definitely nailed it.
Nobody could replace Hayden as Anakin. Period.
And you putting him on the list it's an act of treason.
Mace and the boys: In the name of the Galactic Senate of The Republic, you're under arrest, WatchMojo.
Dude Hayden made revenge of the sith a actually decent movie
