    4:12 I love how they poked fun at his lack of a British accent in “Prince of Thieves” in the Mel Brooks spoof “Robin Hood: Men in Tights”. Cary Elwes (who actually is English) says as Robin, “Unlike some other Robin Hoods, *I* can speak with an English accent!” Not only was this a reference to Kevin Costner’s performance in “Prince of Thieves”, but it was also a reference to past Robin Hoods played by non-English actors, most notably Douglas Fairbanks (who was from Colorado, although his run as Robin Hood came during the silent film era) and Errol Flynn (who was from Australia).
    “Men in Tights” is such an underrated movie in Mel Brook’s filmography, but it does such a wonderful job poking fun at both “Prince of Thieves” as well as the whole Robin Hood legend in general. It’s got a similar vibe to “Spaceballs”.

    Remember when talking about bad casting choice you have to take into account if said movie was badly directed or badly script as a potentially bad casting can be greatly ignored if a bad script or bad direction happens for the movie. When talking bad casting the big thing is that an otherwise good movie gets brought down because of said casting.

    Arnold Schwarzenegger as Mr Freeze was, in my opinion, a good casting choice. We've seen Arnold take on a role like Freeze in the past: a cold-hearted villain who will stop at nothing to accomplish his goal. I think the reason why he was bad was because how he was told to be a comedic villain with a ton of ice puns. If Arnold played Freeze in a more grittier batman movie, then je would be amazing, but since WB wanted the film to attract kids, he had to be act like a villain you would find in a show for kids.

Anakin had trauma of being a slave, he had powers he couldn’t fully control as he wasn’t emotionally stable (he unknowingly influenced padme with the force). I feel like most of these are not poor castings but however poor writing. I guarantee if you give most of these actors a solid script that matched the character they would knock it out of the park.
    Just look at the difference with Hayden Christensen from Episode 2 to 3
    Or Jared Leto from Suicide Squad to ZSJL
    Arnold as Mr Freeze is great in scenes that hit the sympathetic beats of the character

    Glad to see Keanu Reeves quite high up the list for what he did in Bram Stoker's Dracula. What makes his dismail performance so obvious is that the contrast to almost everything and everybody else in this otherwise terrific movie is so stark. In many movies you can't really say if an actor is miscast or has just been dragged down by bad direction, bad photography, bad co-actors or a silly script. But in this case almost everything around Reeves is of high quality. You have oscar-winning costume design, a great soundtrack, Hollywood's finest actors ecc all surrounding a wooden actor who doesn't even show any facial life sign when Count Dracula does the wierdest stuff right in front of his eyes.

    Hell no, Arnold Schwarzenegger as Mr a Freeze was fine. The ice puns were overdone, sure, but considering he’s the second person on this list from this movie, you can chalk it up to poor directing. It’s a bad movie all around and not the best performance from everyone there. Arnold was just doing what he’s directed to do.
    But if you take the character of Mr Freeze people know from the comics and properly apply that to a movie, Arnold would be a perfect choice. A guy that proclaims emotions are frozen dead in him, a very cold personality, very monotone and uncaring for the life of others around him... All Arnold would have had to do is do his Terminator character and dial the ice puns back about 80%.
    As it stands, he at least did the scenes of Mr. Freeze mourning his wife pretty well.
    I have always stood by the thought that he should get another go as Mr. Freeze if he were ever used in a movie again, but I guess now he might be a bit too old so that time may have passed.

    For at least two of these you can blame other factors, not the actors portraying them. For Arnold as Mr Fries, honestly that was pretty good casting. It's just the script was so silly and laden with puns even the greatest of actors could make it seem good. Also for Hayden as Anakin/Vader, I think you can easily blame Episode VI's ending for that. It was Anakin as a force ghost at the end of the movie which tied the hands since you had to get an actor who looked as close to the actor in 1983 as humanly possible. If they didn't use Vader as a force ghost at the end of VI, they could have used anyone.

    For the last time Jared Leto being casted as the Joker is NOT a casting problem or a miscast. It was the product he was given. Ex: Zack Synders Justice League. So enough with the recycling of the same material

      I think they were channelling a stereotypical modern billionaire, instead of a dark domineering evil genius like a Jeff Bezos, they went for a dorky socially inept silicon valley type like Mark Zuckerberg, on crack. Terrible idea.

    I get that Eisenbergs Lex Luthor was supposed to be a take on current billionaires like Elon Musk and Zuckerberg, the way that the comic Luthor reflected moguls of those times. And he got the eccentric frat boy bit down, but forgot the underlying menace, so it came off as too goofy.

  • @yanksfan216
    @yanksfan216 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    Might not like tattooed Joker, but it does exist in the comics. So does Lex Luthor with red hair

    • @evilmejosh
      @evilmejosh 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Completely agree. A lot of people like to focus on one version of a character, which may be a popularized version; but we have different universes within each comic universe. There's even a universe where the joker cuts off his face and then stitches it back on later. And yes, there's a universe where lex Luther has red hair lol.
      And by the way I didn't think Gean Hackman did a horrible job as lex luthor. You just have to keep in mind that the Christopher Reeves Superman was not meant to be a hardcore serious Superman movie.

    One thing with Mickey Rooney cast as a Japanese man, you have to keep in mind the time period it was in. It was released in 1961, mostly roughly 15 years from world war II. I'm sure there was still that great period of time where the Japanese Americans were not looked at fondly still. I'm sure there are probably not a lot of them floating around Hollywood at the time to be cast.
