As a film buff I think it's important to understand that movies are the product of thousands of people and months or years of work all overseen by rich executives who really couldn't give a shit about what you're making, as long as they get richer from it. It goes like this: It might start out as a passion project. It has tons of heart. The actors you envision would do your creative brainchild the justice it deserves. But to get it to the big screen you have to agree to whatever the production company says. They want a seasoned screenwriter to "modernize" the script or some shit, changing 60% of it and removing all the visceral scenes. Then the executives want star power, so they replace the lead that once went teary-eyed reading the script with vince vaugn or adam sandler. Then the production company says you're spending too much so you have to hire cheap costumers with no experience, who will probably be great one day, but have no idea how to work on a film. Then the executives say they want a summer release, so cut your prep time and start filming, and now the project is due in 2 weeks and your new big name actor hasn't even flown in yet, and now he's pissed because the production company isn't even giving him time to prep so he just phones-in all his lines. A couple months later the movie premiers and everyone asks "how did it go so bad with all that star power?" The shiteating executives say "well it is what it is" and let you, the new screenwriter, take the fall for them butchering and pissing all over your work, and now you won't find work for the next 6 years.
Does that include works like Taika Waititi’s Jojo rabbit? I loved that film and it gave me the impression that he had a lot of creative control whereas some of these films mentioned give me the opposite feeling but i don’t know much about filmmaking so I’m not sure
Going out on a limb a bit here, but Colin Farrell's depiction of Alexander, while perhaps flawed, isn't even close to the "30 worst acting performances of all time."
I still remmeber The kid form the Last Air bender, Litterally, got the role because M Knight, liked his audtion tape, and all he did in the tape, was Karrate moves no acting what so ever, and boy does it show
Dishonorable Mentions: *Christina Ricci - That Darn Cat (1997) -It's a shame because I do think that Christina Ricci CAN be solid actress. I've seen her in The Addams Family and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, and she was actually very good in those. But GOOD GOD she is just not even sort of trying here! *Pauly Shore - Pinocchio: The Untold Story -Aside from a small voiceover role in A Goofy Movie, ANY of Pauly Shore's roles could've made the list. But I'm giving a special shoutout to this TERRIBLE DUB starring the actor. *Multiple - Nutcracker 3D -There's a reason why this was number one on Watchmojo's Worst Christmas Movies list. Several actor's deliveries sound like they're not even sort of trying.
i thought that whole movie could have been done without his character and it would not made an iota of difference to the story, am i alone are there others who thought that too?
One thing about the mask that a lot of people don't understand: The primary reason that The Mask and The Grinch are such good movies is because Jim Carry has probably the single most waxy and moveable face in hollywood. He can wear 15 pounds of makeup on his face and still effortlessly make expressions come through. No one else can do this. I think Jamie Kennedy is funny in some stuff, but if you look at son of the mask it looks like shit because his face barely moves. That's because he's a real human person and not Jim Carry. Robin Williams was also like that, god rest his soul. But somehow in no point of the thousands of hours making son of the mask did literally anyone on the set go "he literally can't move his mouth or his eyes or his cheeks, maybe this is bad" If you don't believe me, look up "Jim Carry Clint Eastwood impression", I think it was on Leno or something. Watch him and then try to make the face he makes and look at yourself in the mirror. It's not even close. It's hubris to think anyone could do what Jim Carrey does.
i partly disagree i love Jim Carrey and i've been a fan since (1991) and i loved The Mask but the Grinch as good as he was in it was in it and how good the makeup was by the master Rick Baker the film was awful
Keanu's performance in Dracula deserves to be on this list. Even Keanu himself regretted accepting that part. As for Arnold, even you guys admitted that he was entertaining. He was the best thing about that terrible Batman movie. And his one liners are a reference to his blockbuster hit from the 80s called Commando where he'd deliver a cheesy pun everytime he killed someone.
@@eily_b He's had a good performance once in a while. Or at least acceptable. The Matrix, Point Break--his style fit both of those. Something like Dracula, or Much Ado About Nothing--horribly miscast. The guy seems like a great person irl, though.
Lol, his face expressions are hilarious. Mom: "Eat your vegetables or no dessert!" Kid: "I don't even like dessert!" Mom: (insert confused expression here)
I think you forgot to mention George Clooney in Batman and Robin. In that movie I think it’s George Clooney trying to portray Bruce Wayne trying to portray Batman while portraying, George Clooney.
Maybe not Oscar-worthy (through no fault of his own), but when I think of good performances in bad movies, the first thing that comes to my mind is Alan Rickman making Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves bearable.
Woah, how can Sophia Coppola have been around so many actors her whole life and deliver lines so incredibly lamely?

When you don't have the talent you just dont have it. To be a good actor you must be trained for it. But she can direct actors so good because of what you say.
@@fayboyer5152 it does, absolutely. Good diss too, Yet, while that is a good dig at her it's one which still doesn't answer my question. It's shocking how bad people can be at "acting" , so much so that they miss out on role after role, yet when they get home, they convince their families that it's worth pursuing. How? By lying. What's lying? ACTING! So again, my inquiry remains a valid one. How can someone spend their entire life around award winning liars and not learn how to lie themselves? It's an anomaly. Talent is inconsequential, bc if she had to lie to save her life, she undoubtedly has too, she would. Yet she can't do it for shit on screen. Had to be on purpose.
@@The_Infamous_Boogyman I can only guess, but I'll do my best. Growing up around ppl with a certain skill doesn't mean you develop the same skill, or better yet, passion, because I think you need to love doing something to do it well, too. It can even mean you develop a dislike for that skill, maybe because it's expected of you. Regarding the rest of the family, well, I personally don't think Talia Shire, Nicolas Cage and Jason Schwartzman are good actors either. Also, Sophias dad is a director, not an actor and Sophia makes a decent director so maybe what you're saying makes sense, albeit in a different way.
Nic Cage at number 2#, because of one bad scene in an overall horrendous movie is RIDICULOUS! Come on, his history and film filmography alone should bar him from this list in general.
I refuse to believe Dragonball Evolution wasn't a caricature of a Wattpad Dragonball Z fanfiction. It was worse than M. Night Shyamalan's Avatar and we all know that movie was beyond horrible; so bad that there's no word in any human language to describe it.
Heard a theory a few years back the the "twist" in the sham-atar movie was that it wasn't following the shows plot but the plot of the fire island players show in the episode hence the bad effects and OTT "acting".
@@JoeMama-ij6kcThat’s because the source material that she was given didn’t have much depth in the character to begin with. Bella Swan is not only a Mary Sue, but she’s also practically a blank slate for the reader to use as a wish fulfillment fantasy with Edward Cullen. You can only blame Stephanie Meyer for that. You can’t blame Kristen Stewart for what Meyer created.

Actors always get total credit for a great performance, and always the blame for a poor one. But all of these bad performances started with a bad or lazy script and/or a bad or lazy director. That explains the existence of Tommy Wiseau: he did all three. That's why some actors are very selective about the roles they take. Then there are other actors who just can't say no like Kevin Bacon and Tommy Lee Jones with a mix of amazing, iconic roles, and bland forgettable roles. We all know Kevin Bacon is a good actor, but he has taken so many bland or undistinguishable roles that his overall reputation has suffered. The same could be said of Nicholas Cage, Michael Caine, and a slew of others. There's another interesting listicle: "10 Actors Who Can't Say No".
Yeah but Nicolas cage had to get through so many horrible straight to video decisions because he was running out of money, in real desperation, others that you mentioned simply wanted an easy paycheck.
He should make the list of worst villains because the entire characterization was the problem with luthor in BvS, eisenbergs performance wasn't the problem,

"Her delivery is mindlessly lethargic" That describes ALL of Hilary's acting, not just this movie. I admit when she was at the top of her career and releasing albums i was a fan, but now, as an adult almost 20 years later i realize how bad of an actress and singer she was.
In my opinion, the movie "The Secretary" is where the writer for 50 Shades got the idea. I prefer The Secretary but, I've also never seen 50 Shades of Grey, so can't really say if it's better. I just prefer the chemistry between Maggie Gyllenhaal & James Spader. It feels real. Like I'm watching actual people in their secret lives. That's what makes the movie great.
Let's also keep in mind that in many cases, the actors don't have complete control over their performances - a lot of this falls on the director, who has the final say in how scenes play out.
Two things: First, it's great that apparently there hasn't been a single bad performance in any non English speaking films ever. That's good to know! And second: Most of these are absolutely not the actors' fault. How can you blame JLo for her lines? Most of these have bad screenplays and there is always a director who tells the actors what to do. And the scene is finished when he is happy.

Agree. Heath Ledger set the bar so goddamn high and that wasn't Jared Leto's fault. His performance wasn't as good as Ledger's of course, but that doesn't mean it was bad.
@danteeudora6330 I think he just played it differently. A completely different kinda joker, but one that suited how THEY made him look. Ledger had that pshyco feel to it. Leto came across more gangster. It suited the fact he was based out a night club, leather jacket, earing tattoos etc. I'd like to have seen that joker again in a batman movie.
16:00 the whole point of this movie was it supposed to be a live-action comic book version with puns and comic book noises spread throughout the whole movie but then again I understand why people don't like it
Seriously. He knew it was crap, hammed it up, and it was entertaining as hell. He made the best out of what he had to work with, and that movie *was* absolutely campy ridiculousness. At least he seemed to be having fun with it! Yeah, it was a bad movie, but he made it watchable. Sometimes I want to watch cinematic masterpieces, like Casablanca and Metropolis. And other times, I just need hot but entertaining garbage like that to shut my mind off.
Justin Chatwin honestly deserves better. He wasn't enthused because he was a DB fan since he was little and was super excited for the release of the film. We all were for a while. He even got his Co-star from shameless to try the project with him and they both got ungodly amounts of hate for it. It turns out it wasn't even remotely close to the source material and the thing was a mess. Breaking contracts aren't cheap and he didn't deserve the hate for the greedy corporations who just wanted to bank off a name.
I'm not an acting expert, but if you have an actor known to be excellent, and the performance in a movie sucks, I think that's on the editor or the director. And it's unfair to put kids on your list. You seriously can't hold them to the same acting standards of adults.
I agree, it’s the beginning of a acting career and they mostly trust the adults to direct them in the right direction so the blame isn’t really on them
@@gingaddict Also, trashing kids doing this can be traumatic for the kids. I'm thinking of the boy who played Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars Episode I. I've read he quit acting because of the abuse he received for his performance. And that wasn't even one of these "worst" performances on this list (and I would seriously have put the "I hate sand" performance as worse than anything he did).
Correct. It is borderline bullying to do that to a young actor. The Razzies F'ed up last year, nominating a 12 year old Kiera Armstrong for her performance in the film "Firestarter ". They owned up to their mistake, withdrew her name from the nomination and awarded themselves with the Razzie for their actions. They have since raised the age limit for Razzie nominations to 18+ years and older.
That's what I was thinking too. The Loquisha movie (probably not spelled correctly, sorry) is just one example. There are so many that aren't children, which I think is unfair also.
That's just what this channel does--they only look at the well known stuff. If they think their viewers won't recognize it, they don't include it. None of these lists are anywhere close to accurate, simply a list of random, familiar examples.
I don’t think we saw enough of Jared Leto as the joker to critique, his portrayal was trying to be the Frank Miller joker but the joker is supposed to be a mad genius
I honestly don't think Letto of Halle Berry were that bad in their roles. Like...a lot of the arguments seem to confuse the script/directing with the performance. They're not the same thing. There is some weird shit in Catwoman and she does as good a job executing that weird shit as anyone would. And Letto is playing a demented clown. Like, whether you like that take on the Joker or not, you gotta admit that his acting does match that particular take's vibe.

This. All this. The commentary is merciless.

Dishonorable Mentions:
*Christina Ricci - That Darn Cat (1997)
-It's a shame because I do think that Christina Ricci CAN be solid actress. I've seen her in The Addams Family and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, and she was actually very good in those. But GOOD GOD she is just not even sort of trying here!
*Pauly Shore - Pinocchio: The Untold Story
-Aside from a small voiceover role in A Goofy Movie, ANY of Pauly Shore's roles could've made the list. But I'm giving a special shoutout to this TERRIBLE DUB starring the actor.
*Multiple - Nutcracker 3D
-There's a reason why this was number one on Watchmojo's Worst Christmas Movies list. Several actor's deliveries sound like they're not even sort of trying.
*Even the biggest of actors has bad projects and movies. Ngl I didn’t like Tom cruise in “The Mummy” remake.*
Quite the truth on the first part.
Yes, I didn't care for his role in that movie. My friend and me argued about the movie the other day lol
It was impossible.
Neither did Cruise in fact he has said that was a driving force to do better and we got Top Gun 2.
i thought that whole movie could have been done without his character and it would not made an iota of difference to the story, am i alone are there others who thought that too?
One thing about the mask that a lot of people don't understand: The primary reason that The Mask and The Grinch are such good movies is because Jim Carry has probably the single most waxy and moveable face in hollywood. He can wear 15 pounds of makeup on his face and still effortlessly make expressions come through. No one else can do this. I think Jamie Kennedy is funny in some stuff, but if you look at son of the mask it looks like shit because his face barely moves. That's because he's a real human person and not Jim Carry. Robin Williams was also like that, god rest his soul. But somehow in no point of the thousands of hours making son of the mask did literally anyone on the set go "he literally can't move his mouth or his eyes or his cheeks, maybe this is bad"
If you don't believe me, look up "Jim Carry Clint Eastwood impression", I think it was on Leno or something.
Jim Carrey is irreplaceable. I hear he's retired from Hollywood and making art these days.
Let's be honest. Keanu has nver been a great actor in none of his movies.
@@eily_b He's had a good performance once in a while. Or at least acceptable. The Matrix, Point Break--his style fit both of those. Something like Dracula, or Much Ado About Nothing--horribly miscast. The guy seems like a great person irl, though.

How's about a top 10 list of the most Oscar worthy performances in terrible movies
I'd like to see that!
That would be awesome!

But she can direct actors so good because of what you say.
maybe she always focused on what her dad was doing as opposed to what the actors were doing?
Because acting requires talent?
The Room is probably the biggest “BRUH” moment Hollywood has ever done

How can you pick just one Seagal movie?
Justin Chatwin even apologized for the movie when Toriyama died.
Dragonball Evolution was so bad that it made Dragonball’s creator Akira Toriyama (RIP) come out of retirement.
The more crap Saving Christmas recieve, the happier I get.
How is Kristen Stewart in Twilight not on here? I swear a cardboard cutout of her would have emoted better in the role than she did.

You can’t blame Kristen Stewart for what Meyer created.

How couldnt he see this coming?
I don't know what it is, but i find Sophia Coppola so freakin beautiful
The only person that portrayed Alex Cross to perfection was Morgan Freeman. He was great in Kiss the Girls and Along Comes a Spider.
The first movie was good, the second one, not so much.
Oh, don't tell me that you forgot about Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor from Batman v Superman.

Jesse's performance was peak Lex , no one did it better
It was a weird performance. Most people didn't like it. I guess that's a good result if you're playing a bad guy.

"More an echo chamber for their belifes more then entertaining."

On some of these you guys are just straight hating.
Let's also keep in mind that in many cases, the actors don't have complete control over their performances - a lot of this falls on the director, who has the final say in how scenes play out.
I don't know if I'd say Kirk Cameron's acting is the issue with Saving Christmas. He's being pretty genuine with this idea that he came up with.
Ok Batman and Robin was a terrible movie for sure! But Arnold saved thay movie! He hammed. it up like a legend!😊
Re Fifty Shades, the author of the books was apparently adamant that the scripts had to stick closely to her writing... Hence the terrible films.
The actors were shit too.

Anything after 2000. I liked her in Practical Magic, Dead Calm and To Die For. I think Tom Cruise won the acting talent in the divorce?
Two things: First, it's great that apparently there hasn't been a single bad performance in any non English speaking films ever. That's good to know! And second: Most of these are absolutely not the actors' fault. How can you blame JLo for her lines? Most of these have bad screenplays and there is always a director who tells the actors what to do. And the scene is finished when he is happy.

Especially when M night ruined the movie
