I'm leaning to Oppenheimer in adapted screenplay, it's too strong( also in secret ballots) to not predict it, i think it's a 55/45 with american fiction

I agree that this year is not comparable to last year’s best actress race other than the obvious factors like the precursor wins and the potential historical significance. However, people keep saying “Lily is no Michelle Yeoh” while talking about this which clearly is a dig at Lily. But at the same time, Emma is no Cate Blanchett. I don’t think this argument is applicable to the strength of Emma’s campaign either. Keep the same energy, no?
To be clear, I’m not directing this at Joyce and Chris lol. Love this podcast a lot. It’s just something I’ve noticed happening almost every time this category is talked about.
The only thing I'm thrilled I got right all season long was the false hype of TCP!!! Not everything needs to be re-done.

I would've gone fury road 100% for VFX that year, and the fact that it lost to ex machina is the ONLY thing that's making me confident about the creator from what you said lol. Also I don't know how guardians could win when not even infinity war/endgame won.

The fight should be between stone and hüller, lily should be supporting. But I guess her narrative it’s too strong to ignore, which is annoying.
i never really thought sandra would win the oscar but i’m still overall baffled by how few precursors she managed to win. it was a tár-level performance for me.

I would argue Downey being in the MCU turned them into real movies… no one could ever deny his performance in em and he should have easily been nominated for endgame if Angela Bassett could be nominated for wakanda forever.

It Is the decade of Most brilliant movies. The trouble will be finding footage tc but still very much worth it; that and the 80's. Honestly, before the 70's, who really cares.

Is watching the spiderverse excludes watching boy and the heron ? Spiderverse - release date - June, Boy and the heron - release date -december. They were not released in parallel in the same day. They were released six months apart - this is the time during which the child will have a desire to watch something else than a spider
The five Oscar winners to present Best Actress is going to be the best lineup because it will be one winner from every decade with most range, which will be.
Sally Field - 1985
Jessica Lange - 1995
Charlize Theron - 2004
Jennifer Lawrence - 2013
Michelle Yeoh - 2023
I bet $5 on Red White and Blue and would win $76 if it wins. I also bet $4 on Knight of Fortune and would win $72 if it wins. But I still think Henry Sugar should be the favorite and is most likely to win. Henry Sugar is just so much more watched than any of the other nominees, and I think enough people watched it and liked it and decided to vote for it without watching any of the others.
Don't give up on Emma, it's a close race for sure! Take a look at Ryan Casselman's last video (Predicting 2024 Best Picture & Other Categories) where he samples polls from his SAG and industry friends that are voting, and his results have Emma winning 2-1 over Lily. It's a close race for sure!

Do you think Al Pacino will present with Nicolas Cage, Forest Whitaker, Matthew McConaughey, and Brendan Fraser while Ben Kingsley presents Best Picture or will Al Pacino present Best Picture with Michelle Pheiffer in a Scarface anniversary reunion like they did with Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway?

@@chrisjrosen Yeah, I think so too. It feels like if they've got Al Pacino and Michelle Pfeiffer they'll want them together to do a Scarface 40th anniversary reunion. They can't seem to resist doing the reunions recently.

I agree that Jeffery and Paul are basically the same person, Cillian too and he happened to get a biopic, the biggest one at that.
I actually think that had Oppenheimer been led been led by someone who did not share a similar narrative either Paul or Jeffery would have greater likely won the Oscar.

@@mudstyle5288 I highly doubt it. The only Oscar I see Barbie winning is Best Song (and maybe Production Design). Oppenheimer has a better chance at winning in this category. Greta will eventually win her Oscar one day.
As Oppenheimer looks to emulate Dallas Buyers Club and Mystic River with winning both male acting awards, also worth noting in 1993 and 1983 a film won two acting awards. The Piano/Terms Of Endearment
The hardest one for me is without question best animated film. It’s either across the spiderverse or the boy and the heron. Sigh it’s so difficult. I’m probably gonna pick the boy and the heron
I really hope Boy and the Heron wins but it's gonna have to pull off an upset like Happy Feet and Brave because those were the last films to loose the Annie and PGA Awards and still win the Oscar.
The comparison between Downey and Lee Curtis is the dumbest I ever heard .. Downey has been nominated twice before and has much more memorable roles… Curtis just has Halloween and playing mother roles that’s basically it…

@goldderby: Many who watched Heron still don't understand the story. It's also a PG-13 anime and the Academy doesn't like anime.
Well they did vote for Miyazaki's movie Spirited Away back in 2002 so they do like anime but not enough to award it more than once.

@@moviesexpert37 me too. It became the first PG-13 anime to win this category. Very pleased. Spider verse had everything anyway. It had the PGA as well as the Annie Awards, visual effects society and critics choice award. Heron wasn't eligible for Eddie's which wasn't a hindrance for them. If spider verse won the Golden Globe and bafta it would have been a lock. The original film won an Oscar and is plenty to cement this franchise as Oscar winning. The next film won't end on a cliffhanger and will conclude properly. It will also possibly get six or seven Academy word nominations and go the way of return of the king. I have to see what happens. But for now, I'm pleased with the outcome.
@@AntsTheaterCorner2698 It became the third movie after Happy Feet in 2007 and Brave in 2013 win the Oscar without winning the Annie Award and PGA. I felt if anyone could pull it off it was Miyazaki when Ludwig Göranson composer of Oppenheimer kept talking about watching Totoro and Billie Eilish raved about Spirited Away and I realized the fandom in the Academy for Miyazaki is enormous. Also they shared the Scene at The Academy video of The Boy and the Heron on the Oscars TH-cam page and not one for Spider-Verse so I felt that meant something. Thank God! 🙏

I think they were just saying it's their favorite but it is some of his best work. I would say his best work is Silver Linings Playbook, American Sniper, A Star is Born, The Hangover and Rocket in Guardians.

It is deeply saddening that Joyce has been actively rooting against Lily Gladstone this awards season. What makes it even more baffling is that Joyce is a person of color just like Lily. Lily's performance in KOTFM is the subtlest and the only non-showy one in her category and therefore the best of the nominated performances in the actress category. And Joyce is using every chance she gets to discredit Lily's performance.
Lily’s been infamously her blind spot, seems like she fails to see the passion for Gladstone. Last year, she predicted Cate over Michelle, so can you be surprised? If Lily wins, watch she’ll act confused how she won.
I think suggesting that Joyce has to prefer Lily’s performance solely because she is also a POC is a pretty infantilizing/borderline racist take. Joyce is a professional with the right to her own opinions.
