- Today we take a look at Rockwell Collins, Grovebury Rd, Leighton Buzzard LU7 4TB.
The place closes early on a Friday so this should have been a quick look round from the outside, quick flight and off.
Staff spot us outside and inform us of the site rules about photography and drones.
We try to explain that the law allows these activities but we end the conversation without agreement.

I love how DJ is approached and the majority of the time is told that he can't do something and then when he politely challenges them with facts they all of a sudden don't want to argue. It's because they haven't got a clue.

I worked in the aerospace industry for 33yrs, and believe me this guy is taking absolute cr*p. Do they make the parts outside? Does he really believe he has the right to question someone in a public area. This guy seriously needs his attitude changing, hope his bosses have more sense than he has.
In any case, if it was that a sensitive area they would have applied for excluded airspace.

Collins is an international manufacturer of among other things aeronautical avionics used in a lot of aircraft both military and civil some of which is no doubt secret.
He probably knows the law as well as you do but is atempting to persuade the public that his company can try to impose restrictions beyond his control and authority. If you are actin ,as you were, lawfully he has no right to ask the questions he asked.He was attempting to make you give him information as to the disposition of the data you obtained legally and you quite rightfully refused to give that information. I would want much more intelligent staff in charge of such a secure sensitive aerospace facility. Screening and a lack of stupid "look at us" signage might also be sensible if they are trying to be low-key. In fact pretend to be something else entirely.

Collins Aerospace are a massive American company. In 2021, they had Net sales of over $18 Billion. You would have thought that they could have spent a couple of Dollars on a coherent anti-drone sign, and maybe got an office worker to Google drone laws.

That reminds me. There is aerospace industry near the Jag plant in Brum. Next time you're there pop around the area near Fort Dunlop and the Dunlop Aircraft Tyre factory just down the road. It was the spitfire factory in the war, and you can get some lovely shots of the sculpture on Spitfire Island.
Used to live not too far away. I could tell you all manner of interesting places, even out in the surrounding countryside, with a bit of history if you're interested 👍. Much love ♥

I have been watching your videos for a few months now and I love when the security comes out and asks you what are you doing and you say I’m doing a video and they walk away and then the police turn up and they can’t do anything because your in a public area and then they walk away because you are in public but if you were on they private property and ask you to leave you only went on they private property to inform them that you are there doing a video

I used to work for a multi national in the defence industry, the site I was on was covered with cameras, had security on 24/7 and a palisade steel fence all around the site, it also had a public footpath right next to the fence that ran half way round the site, lost count how many people walked their dogs, and had a clear view of all sorts of parts and components
‘I’m the senior operations manager’ had echoes of ‘I’m a prefect’
This verbal bullies family & friends will be rolling their eyes at this , ,,, he works in the aviation world but doesn’t understand Airspace ??
