Great way to use a common tool most everyone has, deep well 7/16" socket, to help align the body. Good job on the 1/4" fuel return line routing. Your method worked out great.
That is the goal here use tools we most likely have and save money to invest into other needed items instead.

Awesome work, Jon. I had ended up buying a fancy tool from Art Morrison, I think to locate the subframe. This was many years ago when I didn’t know any better, lol.
That tool is super handy and way easier then a tape measure and you will get a more accurate assembly when done. But how I saw it was good enough for factory good enough for me. I followed their technique sort of and done many cars this way and no alignment or panel fitment issues yet. Now if you are build a race car or touring car it would be very beneficial to get it spot on

Hi Jon, great video and appreciate your talent. I have stabbed a few Nova and Camaro subframes and referred to the Fisher body manual. I have used the alignment holes to get you close, but measuring from front to rear of the car in a cross pattern using specified hole location will put the body and subframe in a factory alignment. Much respect for all you do.
I don’t disagree with dropping some measurements to the unibody from the subframe would not hurt a thing. I typically don’t as long as the fenders, hood, fan shroud all line up evenly I don’t stress to much. Now pro touring build or even an extreme drag car I feel it would be a must for the best possible launch and handling

I ran into the same trans cooler adapter problem on my 72 corvette with an aftermarket aluminum radiator.
I suppose it’s a give and take kind of thing. The aluminum cools better and way cheaper than the copper but I have to deal with looking at the adapters. 🤷♂️

Your giving me much needed confidence and inspiration to resume the restoration of my 68 convertible 400 4 speed I bought 42 years ago at the age of 19. Just a thought on the flare adapter fitting...
If you simply painted it black it might disappear? At least the bright brass finish wouldn't be so obvious.
You might be onto something with the black paint. It would tone it down so they don’t stand out for sure

My dad is he loves that silver stuff, i am on the fence. It’s so messy most of the time. It gets everywhere! I use it occasionally, for me I don’t feel these cars will ever see the salt and weather ever again so the potential for a bolt rusting or getting seized in place is slim. Plus I really doubt this car will ever come back apart by the time it’s decayed it will be so old parts and heck internal combustion engines will be obsolete.
The description for those adjustable stands says 6000lbs each!
I have no worries about using them personally but the world of liability says not for this use. You at your own risk So I suppose it’s a disclaimer. I do appreciate you sharing the idea. Made putting the subframe back on even easier

I aligned my subframe in the same manner except I only used the alignment holes and dowel to get it close. I didn't trust them to make it square. I measured the sides of the subframe to the rocker pinch welds and also measure from the tails of the subframe in a triangle back to the front of the rear frame, as well as straight back to the rear frame. I also measure the track length from the center of the rear wheels to the center of the front wheels on both sides. I used all of these measurement and adjusted them all so that they all agreed with each other. I found that the dowel method did not get it close enough on it's own. I don't know much about this stuff, but it's just the way I did it. You mentioned the long branch manifolds. Did you get any update from Ram Air Restorations? I keep meaning to call again but I haven't gotten around to it yet.
I don’t disagree with checking the measurements like you did, won’t hurt a thing. And for the manifolds no word yet, i haven’t called in over a month, I figured I would hear something from the Firebird community once that they become available again

Not sure yet, funny you ask. What are you or people willing to pay for a car like this? Depending on that amount makes it plausible to build and sell cars for a full time job. If you figure 900 hours labor and 30k in parts plus the car cost to start with to make it worth while the price is around $80,000 plus depending on how fancy you want to go.
Pretty inexpensive for one of these cars done to this degree!!
Did you buy or make the body holder to tilt it on its side or buy it
Home made, works best on convertibles does fine with a coupe but a little too heavy, not tipping hazard just a little more work to get it back over center to let it down. Here is a link to video and at the end has the plans to build one

eBay special. I like that is is as thick as a 4 core copper but being aluminum it should cool a lot better

This "Bird" is a Column shift?..
Nope floor shifter with center console. It has the transmission lock out linkage that ties into the steering column. That was new for 1969 model year
Just curious if you decided on an electronic kickdown switch yet?
Not yet. I like the one the parts place sells it is very close to original the other option is a micro switch that mount on the left rear of the carb that works off the secondaries.
@@VinylVillageGarage B&M makes a kickdown switch that connects to the throttle lever on the carb. I had to make a bracket for the switch that mounted just below the throttle cable bracket. The microswitch is my back up plan.
@@VinylVillageGarage don’t buy the one from the parts place. I did and it is just a cheap version of a brake light switch. I first used the Lokar setup, but I found a plunger style micro switch I want to install in the factory mount on the carb. Mine is a 68 without ram air though.
