I just wanted to thank you. You have a brilliant way of explaining complex ideas in such a simple and concise manner. An amazing quality I am envious of. One of the best tutorial’s I’ve ever seen, not limited to drone builds.
Thank you 🙌🙌 I'm glad it helped!
When i got into fpv drones and bought some of a guy that built them all he said was he didnt have time to teach me and i was just acting like a brat for asking for some guidance. Then he reffered "if you dont even know what beta flight is why did you get into this hobby" Well was he right i guess, sold my drones a couple of months after that. I really do miss flying Fpv and i will probably get into it again, but for now im just getting my DJI mini 2 so i can atleast get in the air again!
@@scrappydvg4090 What a terrible person, everyone gotta start somewhere. For me the DJI FPV drone and FPV simolator, was a great start this hobby
@@TRONCATFPV Hi can you make a list with what did you use (components )
Fax
This is awesome!! I just got my first, cheap drone from Amazon two days ago and I'm already hooked. I'm a software engineer by day and amateur roboticist by night, so this is right up my alley. Thank you SO MUCH for putting time into this video to help us tinkerers out. I will definitely be attempting something like this in the near future and I can't wait to see more of your work. New subscription very well earned!
Hey um which one did ya get?
You explained everything so well, all in just a 30 min video. I'm new to this hobby and this is so helpful. Thank you for the tutorial!
TRON you are the best of the best no dough that. When I just started looked into drone flying. there were so many video that explained the parts but never an actually full course of building the drone. At that point I didn't even want to build it.I came across to your channel randomly and love how you explain and showed how you built it step by step. Amazing Job :).
I'm glad my build videos have helped you get into FPV! I try to make these build videos as thorough as I can 🙌
Keep an eye out, first build video of 2023 is coming out later today 😉
I came across to your channel randomly and love how you explain and showed how you can manage to accomplish a build like this and is interesting just thinking if i can build one 😅
He is making this look easy, thank you for taking the time and effort to help us out.
Now I feel like I can say that I know how to build a drone and show-off! And this is the first time I'm watching something like this.
This is how easy this video made it look like to build a drone.😍
You made this look so fun and easy, I ordered the stack a couple days later. 2-4 weeks to get it, but I'm pumped. Thanks for this video, it'll be invaluable. My kids will love the drone we build.
Quadcopter
@@murrijuana2842 Do you mean it won't be a drone, but a quadcopter? I thought a drone was a crew-less, either remotely or autonomously operated vehicle. I suppose quadcopter is more specific and therefore technically more correct.
How did it go??
@@dxnnvr7107 Generally great. The only snag was unrelated to the stack. I got a controller and radio protocol situation that isn't playing nice, and I need a Windows-based computer to do a firmware update. Huge drag, as I use MacOS and Linux. Regardless, I had a ton of fun building around this stack and initial testing was a blast. I can't wait to sort out radio issues.
Nice build. Good to see a budget build video done as well as this one. I have the Emax motors and they work well for the money. Plenty of power for beginners and advanced pilots. Great content, thanks.
Great video as always. Gonna build this as my practice drone! Thanks man! I really needed someone with parts experience to suggest components.
I had no clue which components would make a good budget build being my first. Now I can build one!
Yea sometimes its tough to find components that will all work together with different frame sizes and camera mounts and everything. I can see that the V3 frame is already sold out so hopefully the V4 will be in stock for a while. I'm glad all of the components will work on this other frame!
I'm glad the video helped!
Which remote should I buy if I going to build this drone?
@@faisalzadjali5347its a transmitter lol...... so whats your budget?
OK I just want to start by saying I almost never leave comments. Mainly because I watched most of my TH-cam on my TV. But I actually got my phone out just to leave a comment here. Dude this is a super well done tutorial for the basics. I’m experience in working on and repairing electronics so that’s not complicated but I’ve been contemplating building my own FPV for a while but I was always worried what I need to get and I wanted to make sure I wasn’t buying garbage. This was the perfect video. I just ordered everything, so hopefully once everything comes in, it will all go together! I guess wish me luck and thanks again!
If this guy wasn't on YT id be completely lost with building drones. Thanks Troncat for all your vids!!!
haha, i'm glad my videos have helped ya! 🙌
Most of those 2 million views are from Ukraine... :-D
Tremendously well done video. As someone just getting into the hobby, finding explanations that don't assume a bunch of accumulated knowledge is rare. Thank you for the detailed work and for giving newbies like me a clear, affordable entry point into the hobby!
The best video explained step by step. I consider that following your steps to be able to assemble this drone as a beginner would be the best greetings from MEXICO 🇲🇽
Thanks! glad it was helpful 🙌
I bought a DJI FPV drone and got hooked now I building your drone I'm excited. I'm getting my frame and motors tomorrow thanks for showing your subs and I
EXACTLY what I've been hoping to come across. FPV getting closer to reality for me, yay. Thank you very much for putting this together! Haven't built anything RC since my Team Losi JrX2 circa 1990... hmmm a flying car as a next progression step seems like I've seen that somewhere before.
Same here! Going through my r/c stash I found all kinds of mechanical speed controllers, old AM stuff. LOL those were the days!
Be sure to spend some time on a simulator so your first flight wont end in carnage. Or start with a ducted whoop.
@@propphotographyaz9992 he's never going to be a fpv pilot.
Just do it brother Brett! Weeeeeeeeeeeee. Awesome video Tron! 🖖🖖🖖

Thank you for this great video! Can you show your betaflight settings (rates, pids, ...) for this drone? I'm starting assembly on these motors and propellers.
holy shit this is incredibly informative and well put together
thanks for going the extra mile with all the part links and stuff, i think you have just helped me find a new hobby lol
update: I'm flying and having an absolute ball
To someone who has no knowledge about electronics, you made it easy to understand. Super complicated though, all the different parts of a drone.
It's awesome to see after this much time and with the problems we're having today (inflation and lack of availability) you can still get a decent build.
My first build is with the original E-MAX ECO series motor and I see they kept their promise of a affordable decent motor.
I have a set of those OG eco motors going strong on my basher freestyle drone. They’ve taken a beating and still fly good haha.
The eco series has not disappointed. Thanks for watching!
That looks a sweet build 👊🏼
It is! I've been flying it pretty consistently for the last few days playing with the PIDs a bit. Thing is flying awesome and survived its first good crash 💀
just watched the earlier budget build video, and I'm happy to see you got a soldering mat!
Just finished my first drone folowing your instructions. Thanks my friend! Fun project!
Awesome video. Lost my quad to dead goggles and a pond so I did this build but used xing2 motors, happy model ep1 elrs, and race ranger 1600mw vtx. I wanted to see what kind of distance I could get from this thing. This was my first built from scratch quad so this was very helpful.
What distance you got?
@@LuisMendez-ck6dv I haven't gone for a long range fly. All I have currently are 1500mah packs, so I'd run out of battery well before radio link, but I've done a mile with lq still at 100 and still plenty of db of signal left. Expresslrs is like the combustion engine during horse and buggy times. Ive switched all my quads over to it. Check out Wezley Varty's videos. He's tested range and has gotten way out there
That’s really cool could you tell me more about your setup? I want to be able to do some kinda long range stuff but I don’t have the budget for digital so I’m wondering how much it would cost to get 1-2 miles vtx range?
@@Carl_L there are tons of 1watt+ analog vtx's out there for not a lot of $$$. AKK race ranger $25. Says it will do 1600mw on some stuff, 1000mw (1watt) on other sites. I tested with an IRC power meter and its between 900mw-1watt. Race Day Quads has their brand 1watt vtx as cheap as $15. I've used both and was really happy with them both. Rush Tank Solo tested good too. It did 1.4watt on the high setting but is a little more $ at $50. I have that one in my 7" long range quad. Besides a couple of tiny whoops, thats the only analog quad I still have. Ive since switched over to walksnail. what a difference.
The transition from the DVR footage to GoPro was SICK!
I built my fist one with similar components!
What go pro and stabilization software did you use?
haha thanks!
For this I used a GP10, 4K 30, Superview, ND16 with locked shutter. Didn't use any stabilization for that flight footage 👍
@@TRONCATFPV That's great! Keep at it, bro.
@@TRONCATFPV thats so smooth
This will be my first drone build, the video is super helpful. Thank you!!🤟
this is a great tut for beginners like me and really goes in depth on what to do with each part and im glad you didn't speed through the process making it confusing and hard to understand
one more thing, im terrible with manual and was wondering if I could tune it for stabilized movement making it so it has a locked pitch and yaw making it so it can't go past a certain angle.
Love your work. Been through a lot of builds myself lately. Always on the watch for budget fpv stuff. Please consider the t-motor V2208 for 17,50 buck a piece. Quality is better than emax or iflight xing-e for 3 buck more
Thanks for the tip. In what way is it better?
@@PeterMMMMM 2208 is 20% more stator volume\bigger than typical 2306. This allows you to run higher pitched props or even 5.5 inch prop and more thrust if you like.
The v2208 has titanium shaft and unibell. Quality is just better and lighter.
I'll check em out 👍
I have a set of T-motor 2205 2450's on one of my other quads and love em!
Hey man! I really appreciate you taking the time to make these videos and helping the community! I have a question: would the source one v5 work with this build too? Once again, thank you!
I am pretty sure it will
Hey did the v5 work with it ❤❤
It did! But the screws that came with the motors were a little too short (they still work, but wouldnt hurt to have 1 more mm or 2 in length)@@Pistolpressure
I’ve been waiting so long for this!
Awesome video, thanks! Also that hawk chase at the end was so cool 😮😮😮
Right? I never saw the thing when I was flying but was pumped when my girlfriend showed me the video she had gotten of it lol
T-motor electronics are shlit, the diatone H743 board with BMI 270 gyro and their 65amp ESC is a sick combo for 7" but if doing 5" you could go with a smaller ESC like their 55amp board which is just as good. they make good stuff. but the BMI270 gyro is amazing. alwasy hated the MPU 6000 stuff. nice to see the BMI 270 being used more.
good to know, this was my first t-motor electronics piece and was disappointed. I'm hoping it's just a bug with the BMI270 and can get fixed in an update since it seems like 4.3 is what caused the twitch. The board came with 4.2.11 and flew fine, no gyro twitch. as soon as I flashed 4.3 or 4.3.1 the gyro got all screwy. Flash back to 4.2.11 and the gyro isn't even recognized lol.
Did they fix the bidirectional dshot for RPM filtering on the H7 boards? I dont think so and H7 has no benefit at the moment on betaflight. Personally I`ll stick with f722 or even F405 with the BMI270 gyro
@@chrisbee5481 what issues are they having with bidirectional Dshot? its working on my end fine as far as im aware.
@@TRONCATFPV weird mate 😑
@@thewhitedillard seems they have fixed it then
The source one has a v5 frame. But v3 has been very durable as still a community fav with loads of prints out there.
Yessir that’s the main reason I went with it. Once the V5 has been out for a while and there’s more available prints for it I’ll use it for a future budget build 👍
I broke so many V5 arms that i went for Rotor Riot hdo1 with thicker arms
never considered you could get an affordable fpv and now i am, thanks
finaly a decent accurate and good build seen in a way that most new people can understand

With all the parts he used except for the GoPro how long would this drone last before swapping the battery and what would be the range for this build
Excellent video, very informative and useful information. Have just subscribed to your channel and look forward to other informative videos
Definitely a great video bro, you should do giveaways... we know you can't build em for everyone but great work. Im new to the drone world but your tutorial makes me feel like a pro. I know understand the brains just gotta get my kit. Thank you
From my experience, the p3's pitch is too low for my 2550kv motors, using it on 2400kv might not be optimal. Recovery is rather weak when i used the p3, although it did fly smoothly. The p4 is probably a better prop for relatively lower kv motors, or any prop with higher than 4 inch pitch. Great build bro🙌
Gemfam 51433 handsdown brought my flying to the next level. Came from 5040 and that was to weak to carry an action cam
@@Frozone. Gemfan is weird with their prop names. 51433 is not a 4.33 pitch as the name suggest but 3.5 so compared to other manufacturers 5040 its actually lower pitch.
Hey troncat. Great video as always. What kind of range are you getting with the elrs reciever? I want to use it on a race build so I don't need much but seeing conflicting reviews.
Honestly i'm getting more range that I thought I would, i'm not sure if its because I have the receiver mounted out on the arm or what. I'll have to do a true range test but I haven't had it failsafe yet. Since the receivers are so cheap I plan on ordering a couple more lol.
@@TRONCATFPV Nice. Will try them out as well. No antennas to mount.....the dream :)
Thank you. Time to get started!
YES YES YES YES 2022 VERSION IVE BEEN WAITING MONTHS FOR THIS!!!!
For the VTX, in your video it only has 4 wires to connect to the ESC, but when I ordered the exact same VTX mine came with 6 wires to connect. Any ideas?
Looking into building an fpv drone and this guide is super easy to understand and well detailed. Two questions I have though are: a) how much does it weigh? And b) what goggles/controllers does this build support?
I do not have an answer for the first question but the build's VTX card supports all analog goggles and the radio receiver is compatible with all ELRS controllers.
He literally answers both those questions towards the end of the video
Ngl, I’ve been waiting for this video for a LONG time
you and me both! I wanted to have it released last month but wanted the parts in the build to be solid.
I think it was worth the wait though 😉
I’m planning on ordering all of these parts, and I just wanted to say thank you! This will be my 1st fpv drone and I’m really excited as to how easy it is to set up! Again, thx a ton!
What is the flight time and range for this?
Yeah i was wondering the same as we don’t know what radio transmitter he uses if he can give some options for us, flight time has to do with the battery you using this one probably is about 20 mins flight time
@@cybercifer8221you can get like 7-10 minutes with this setup max
Hopefully going to buy everything with my Christmas money and get it setup ty for the tutorial 🙏
that beat was sick with it

So satisfying love it
W intro bro, love it.
Great vid quality compared to the $200-250 drones I’ve seen
Love your videos! Keep it up!!!
Great video dudee
This is super clear
To the multiple peeps asking the same question about duration of flight time, and not getting an answer, it's bcoz there's no "set time" and you have to do some calculations. Google it, come on. lol. But basically it depends on flying style, then the formula to calculate your FPV drone flight time, you have to know three factors: Battery Capacity (in this bulld that's a 1550mAh 14.8V Lipo) , Battery Discharge and Average Amp Draw (the components total power draw which can fluctuate and be tricky to come up with ONE number that applies to all.) For these specific parts, and for practice if you're serious about building this, you should look up each parts power requirements and total draw when all parts are firing at max output, and reach a best-case-scenario. Dude has no time to answer the same question over and over, making these bomb ass videos that clearly take time and effort WHILE actually doing the builds, but the way he rocked it it's probably 6 minutes max. Remember this is FPV and for racing or performce, not the regular king of reco or photo drone flying, so getting even 6 mins out of this is REALLY awesome. Should not make a difference if you have 2 or 3 battery packs or MAAAKE your own. Google awaits. Hope this helps.
I couldn’t wait but I literally just did a similar build this weekend… but I flashed (or tried to) the wrong firmware so now I have to learn how to negotiate this problem.
@UC6Ii3VLChDZdt0jtrJA6KBw Sounds good! I sent you a message on IG.

But i have one question now, when you fly the drone, do you allways fly with the view of the smaller cam or can you have live footage from the go pro while flying ?
Hello! Getting back into the hobby, thanks for the video! I have a Flysky i6x, what receiver would be best to work with it?
Awesome Video man, everything very easy to understand.
How beginner-friendly is this drone? Can you start and learn FPV-flying with this one?
Thanks!
I am complete beginner and just purchased a drone kit from Ali Exp as I was trying to avoid the stress of choosing parts for my first build. The kit appears to have reasonable quality name parts however it comes with 1800KV motor. I note that other designs use 2400KV motors. I understand the KV is directly related to speed although torque is also a consideration. My question if 1800KV underpowered for a typical drone. I am happy to upgrade the motors if that is deemed to be necessary. I dont plan on any payloads but will provide additional sensors including GNSS and flow and lidar sensor. My plan is get some experience in building a drone, then I plan to move to fully autonomous AI drone build as a new build which is my main interest. PS. I do have a engineering background, but totally new to drones. So please dont be too hard on me.
I built this drone as my first entry into the scene and have had a nightmare getting bit set up 🤣
I am using the betafpv 2.4 ghz literadio 2 se in elrs and have not been able to bind the controller to the elrs receiver at all.
Iv had an itch to get into fpv for some time so I’m going to just do it now. but the more I look into it the more confusing it gets with what to buy and if your paying the right price for what your getting, I think il be building my own for two reasons. I know exactly what it is and build the skills for repairs because I’m sure there will be a lot! I like the Bluetooth for in the field tuning. I think il be building one of these, they look pretty good. Only question I got is if I want more speed/power what would need upgrading?
OK, two weeks later... I have all the parts. My SpeedyBee order just sat there for 4 days after "expected ship date." I emailed, "Hey? Any idea on shipping?" and I had an email within a few hours. Suddenly, it showed shipped and had left SpeedyBee. It took 7 days, but I have it now. Well, I have all the parts for the drone itself. I still need to order the controller and goggles. In the interim, I bought a Technicans Ham Radio License manual to study for the Ham Radio test. I finished it last night, so going to test this week ideally.
Great video, really looking forward to having a go at building a drone and this helps a lot. As you said a lot of the main components mentioned in your video have gone out of stock but you have posted alternatives, is everything compatible with each other across both lists, the main build and alternatives? This may seem like a stupid question but the compatibility thing is the part I struggle with. Many thanks
yup! All of the links are compatible across both lists 👍
@@TRONCATFPV awesome, thanks for the quick response 😁
