Playing the Wilds beta was so cool because it really showed how much of a testbed Iceborn was for the future of the series. With the guiding lands, snow, clutch claw, ect. I'm excited to see all the new weather and map types in February.
I've played the last two nights (to the detriment of my sleep) and I agree with most of your points. I can confirm that other weapons have changed move sets and functionality. I main the lance and Wilds has a new counter mechanic that allows you to automatically counter attacks with a small shield bash that really helps to keep your damage output high. The map is awesome, and the only improvement I would like to see on it would be a way to bring up the possible fast travel locations. I get lost on it sometimes and it would be nice to be able to quickly fast travel back to the hub once we are able to start forging new weapons. My one gripe, is knowing EXACTLY where all the monsters are at all times. I really feel like they should have circles where the monsters could be and you still have to track them down. Losing that aspect of monster hunting is kinda sad. It's no longer a heart racing chase of, "Will I be able to track them down again and finish the fight before they heal up?"
The FPS issue deserves a lot more than just a minor mention at the end, it's actually JUST BARELY playable on Performance mode. It feels god awful by default. They simply cannot release the game with its performance in this state, and we should be telling Capcom as such. Tired of devs making games needlessly detailed in places where it hardly matters at the cost of performance. No one's going to see that super hi res sand rock and go "Wow, this detail really makes the bleeding from my eyes worth it!"
I’ve been playing since MH (Yes, the PS2 one) and Freedom Og on PSP and have played every title since; So long as it keeps the tone of Worlds and Wilds (what I’ve seen so far), I’m all about the story being more played up alongside all the other improvements. Music is stellar as always, of course. Hearing the lightning strikes as cymbals in Rey Dau’s theme is one of my favorite musical tropes. The base area monster theme is intense as well. Can’t wait for the release!
The more I think about this the more I realize how painful and dangerous that would be. Tigers have enough rough spikes on their tongues to rip your skin off after a few swipes. What chatacabra would do to your skin is unimaginable
I thought I was just going to try out the fishing mechanic then a Ray dau with more rewards shows up. I was like hmm I want to hunt you with the hammer this time round. Last time with a great sword it was a 35 minute solo fight. This time round..... 6 seconds to spare out of a 50 minute fight. I got to the reward page and I suspect that the monster was like a larger crown since it felt like a larger health pool. The rewards had 3 inverted plates, 2 tickets and 1 gem. Pretty damn good rewards off one monster. Then before i had a chance to save it said connection error. At least I got the screen shots.
Really accurate insights! I've played on PS5 the last two days and for me the immediate things that DO stand out positively is that the voice acted main character actually really helps the sense of 'immersion' into the story. I always disliked how my character in MHW or MHR would just nod at everything, you know? Secondly, the amount of people in the camp area and then the ease of SOS flares bringing in other players...it REALLY did make it feel like a living, breathing world. Your comments about it feeling more like an MMO are really on-point and AWESOME! Imagine the fun of perhaps a lower-geared but highly-skilled player being able to hold their own against a super tough monster. That's how I felt fighting Rae Dau last night. It took like 26 minutes and I carted twice, but it felt SO rewarding when we defeated it. I definitely need to learn the new attack skills and patterns as you commented, but I'm excited about that! Overall, it feels like the perfect evolution and forward-thinking you would hope for in an iterative game like Monster Hunter. I'm SUPER excited for the release and would already bet monies this is a 2025 Game of the Year contender!!
Monster Hunter Wilds is my 2025 game to play all year long. With a whole lot of hunting and grinding. Maybe even all through 2026 too depending if it get a huge dlc or two. Only hunt nonstop until Resident Evil 9 comes out or the next Resident Evil Remake.
The other games of 2025 are like death stranding 2 and like that ninja game from sucker punch. Will Resident Evil Remake come out on the 30th anniversary? Or at least I mean the same 2026 year? I just played the PS4 version of the gamecube remake and that was a hell of a remake back then.
The more realistic aesthetic could also be due to the RE engine using a lot of face/object scanning. It’s a similar hyperreal aesthetic to other RE engine games like DMC5 and Dragons Dogma 2. Granted MH Rise was also RE engine but they had to stylise that to get it to look good on switch
I have so much hope for this after this review. Gonna try the beta this weekend. Just got me and 3 different friend groups pumped to coop this, thanks Fextra!!
I did not expect how much of a difference it would make for the camp to be integrated into the map but it's huge. Makes it really feel like a proper next-gen MH game.
Performance is important though, and Monster Hunter is a fast-paced game, just not at the very start when you're fighting weaker "tutorial" monsters like Chatacabra, Doshaguma and Rey Dau. No one wants to fight Fatalis with awful frame rates, it does matter for iframing through attacks if you don't just rely on divine blessing or the monster simply missing you. Bad optimization is an issue no mater how you look at it, and having good performance is a good thing no matter what you might think. We shouldn't excuse their "60 fps only with frame gen on even in high end computers" and their lack of care for how the game runs, people are forgetting that 720p30fps is a thing from the past and we are literally downgrading.
If you think the system reqs for pc are for high end computers just Means you know absolutely nothing about pc components those pc parts are all mid to low tier high end gpus are 4070 ti super 4080 super 7900xt 7900gre for CPUs 7800x3d or 14900k the specs for the recommended are only a 2070 super or 6700xt on gpus CPUs are i5 11600k Ryzen 5 3600x those are low tier to mid tier parts the 4090 is a enthusiasts card and so is the 7900xtx so the fact you think a 2070 is high or even a 3600x is high end is absolutely laughable
I went from being really excited for this game to being concerned about performance from playing the beta. No matter how you swing it this needs to be addressed and I hope capcom makes a statement regarding it.
This sounds better and better every time you talk about it. And i cannot tell you how excited your description of an open world "mmo-like" feel makes me...i am mostly a solo player that really enjoys just grinding mobs and exploring mostly on my own, but i do love an mmo feel where i can spontaneously group with other players in the open world to just thrash a boss when the opportunity presents itself...i dont want to be a part of an organized raid guild or something with that much structure but the ability to just organically pop in and group up with other players for a specific event i happened to fight across is really appealing to me... currently most MMOs are just not designed to cater to that kind of mostly solo play focus, since obviously group content is the lifeblood of an MMO surviving long term...maybe this will scratch the itch of that cross section of open world combat focused rpg + some organic group content... I'm more and more excited every time i hear about this game.
Omg seeing what the monster drops right from the menu instead of having to go to MHWiki for it is a huge improvement. The amount of times I open MHWiki for the most obscure items needed for lategame weapon upgrades
I loved it but I had network connection issues so had to solo hunt. Hopefully it works better on release. Otherwise I thought it was great as a huge fan of the series I think this could end up my favourite.

@Fextralife. I watched the full video. Great video but you didn't address the SOS feature ( I don't think you did). The fact that you use your SOS and you get three NPC hunters to join immediately and if a player joins, he/she replaces one of the NPCs on the hunt, is GOT DAMN AMAZING!!! I LOVE IT!! Also if a player leaves the hunt (rage quit), an NPC takes their place. This will come in handy when playing with Korean hunters #IYKYK 😅😂
Played the beta last 2 days, while the gameplay is great the visuals and performance on PS5 need alot of improvement, performance mode looks bad, and quality mode looks better but framerate sucks, hopefully they can improve them before launch
been playing dual blades over the weekend and it was a blast. More movement, better fluidity, evades with counter hits and a lot of spinning along monsters! Best monster hunting life ever 👍
Super excited to check this out this weekend. Definitely want to dive in on the insect glaive and the longsword, and I think maybe dabble with a bow as a secondary to add some range. Can't wait for this.
I managed to be lucky enough to get a session of wilds with friends, footage etc and honestly the way they introduced the new boss and mount mechanics were awesome, i honestly cannot wait for the game to release. what was your favourite weapon used in Wilds?
I actually kinda liked how big and overblown and bombastic oversized all the things were in Monster Hunter World. I like"Jurassic Park" feel to it, it gave it an extra sense of fantasy. There was a certain charm to it. And I'm worried that with this lean toward more realistic it will lose a portion of that. I know a lot of people are going to hop on the 'this open world is so fantastic train' but I'm tempering my expectation. I think open world is overrated. This may be hot take but I like have a hub and going 'on missions' in a separate area instead of constantly being in it. I didn't particularly like the Guiding lands portion of Ice Borne and I'm sure I'm not the only one. As a positve tho yeah no kidding the weapons act AMAZINGLY. The combat has never felt so fluid. They took what was good in Worlds and sprinted with it. They nailed that so well. Best it's ever felt by a large margin.
Yeah I'm with you on this one. I didn't like the open world as much as I thought I would. Maybe once more enemies are involved and we have access to the crafting etc it will change but the beta didn't hit with my like I wanted.
Hate to appear like an FL fanboy but this is the second review I’ve watched of yours this morning and you nailed it for me…again. I have never played any Monster Hunters after just dabbling in one once and felt it was too impenetrable for me and I didn’t quite get it. I downloaded this Beta just out of curiosity and was blown away by how good it was. It felt totally cool and accessible. I preordered instantly and can’t wait to dive into this world with mates. Crazy U Turn by me that I didn’t expect.
It’s awesome that we have similar taste! Monster hunter is so addictive and fun, Its my most anticipated title for next year next to kingdom come deliverance 2 and titan quest 2. I’m weird like that lol
@@Fextralife I couldn’t get along with Kingdom Come Deliverance yet so many said how good it was. I bounced off it almost immediately. Maybe just a time in my life when I had to be selective about what time I put into games. I watched the trailer for KCD 2 however and that looked much better.
I think the 2 weapon combinations are going to be interesting to see. Im guessing there's going to be weapon combos people discover that are going to be insane
I'm kinda excited to know how much the gameplay will change now that we have the option to carry a secondary weapon to switch during hunts, and use like two weapons that focus in stamina such as the bow and dual, and pairing all the perks and bonuses from the armor and jewel to máxime damage. On a second thought, as a solo player any main weapon plus the hunting horn to self buff, sound pretty well.
My two mains are great sword and hammer. If the monster goes to a hill area or places with ledges the hammer will be well suited for me to sonic spin dash it's arse.
Well said... This is the greatest iteration to date! Capcom really showed out... I didn't have an issue with performance since I have a decent PC But I couldn't max out my settings and I could in Mh:World so I'm just going to upgrade my GPU before the full game launches!!
I like how the guy in the story prologue sees the hunters weapon and is shocked that people could actually hunt monsters. He never considered that you can kill anything with a big enough stick like my lance
After only being able to play for a few hours so far, I'm already in love. I have to get my brain back into MH mode, especially learning the new things and with me attempting some new weapons, but I'm having SO MUCH FUN! It just feels great, looks great, and I love the new moves and mechanics they've added! Can't wait for this weekend when I can put even more hours into this beta!
I've greatly enjoyed the wilds beta, trying out the new attacks, testing out weapons I don't normally use and having a blast. My rig is starting to age, but still got solid performance at 1440p ultrawide 21:9 on my RTX 2080, so I am happy about that, the only issue I have been having is a rendering issue with the water, looking really bad at certain camera angles, where the mesh for the water just kind of screws up. It's not a performance and framerate issue so it doesnt affect gameplay, but it is a little immersion breaking mid hunt. Overall I am super happy the Beta gave us four new monsters to test ourselves against so the whole beta experience is fresh with beasties that we havent killed a thousand times over. Though I laugh that the 3 addetional armor sets they let you play with all are super weak against lightning so the big bad thunder dragon is a surprising threat at first contact. Switch Axe is just as satisfying to use as it always has been, Gunlance has some serious impact, I enjoyed Heavy Bowgun in the beta, and I've historically stayed away from bowguns in the franchise. The new tracer for the Bow is a wild new addition. I like that the movelist is visible in the top right, letting you at a glance see your moves when your learning a new weapon, and thanks to it, I was able to quickly get used to the new full combo for Gunlance for some seriously heinous damage output in one long explosive combo
Wow, I feel very similar to some of your thought-provoking remarks on the Beta. I pretty much skipped the opening cutscene in order to get into the gameplay. I'm trying to get my best friend into MH through World (I didn't like Rise). I found the physical reactivity of the monsters' skins quite impressive! My weapons of choice were the SA and CB and let me tell everyone, the SA feels more fluid, but more complex. My negatives are that the UI is still clunky af with too many double confirmations. However, this is going to be a landmark video game release for Capcom and our time 😅 🎉❤
There's no negative about being able to use two weapons. I mean you don't have to use two different kinds of weapons you could use, for instance, all double blades or dual blades and then have a different element in your backup. And now you're prepared for multiple types of monsters
I'm loving the demo. I am definitely going to be maining the switch axe unless they somehow nerf it considerably. The addition of the counter attack and offset attack have opened up so many possibilities for that weapon.
Yeah the gameplay loop would be fight said monsters. Get to say the Ray Dau apex monster and use the monster part rewards to craft better armor and weapons to move up the list and rinse repeat. Some items may have a lower drop rate at 5 percent or even 1 percent needed to craft jewels, armor or weapons.
I love the game and can't wait to play it. However I could barely run it at acceptable levels with an 11900k and a 3080ti. I was unable to get a steady 60fps unless I turned down the settings to medium-low, which looked absolutely terrible, AND used DLSS at ultra performance from 1440p (meaning the internal render resolution was 480p). I say stable 60, but it was still dropping down to the mid 50s during the lightening storm even at these settings. I tried FSR performance mode with frame gen, and while I was able to get a stable "60" it looked even worse with FSR, and the ghosting and input lag from the framegen made it unplayable for me. I don't know if I'll buy it if there aren't significant performance improvements by the time it launches. I am able to play every other major AAA title at 4k high settings and the most I ever have to do to maintain a stable 60fps is turn down a setting or two, and use DLSS quality. I have never played a worse running game in my life.
I don't normally pre-order games. But in this case, I don't think you can go far wrong. The beta is awesome. The game runs super smoothly on the PS5 in performance mode.
I'm getting the pro so I'm not that worried. Something that I've noticed, that it could be a bug, but turning the motion blurr off, for some reason actually increases performance. It could be my OLED doing some work, but I've noticed that it was getting insanely smooth, so I brought the counter in, and it was oscillating between 76 and 118fps, with motion blurr on, it was between 45 and 57fps
I've never been able to get into a monster hunter game (save the stories rpg one that was creature collecting and turn based, loved it), but this one looks like one I could.
You know, after the dumb shit that happened with the dragon age situation, which is 100% a shit game, I'm starting to look at this channel in a new light, I still don't agree with a lot of you, however, as a 20+ Monster Hunter Vet your explanation was well explained and sound, I very much enjoyed this video man, well done sir.
I've made a run at every Monster Hunter game the last decade or so. These should be games I love but I always bounce off of them because the loop of locating, wayfinding, questing and looting has never made a lot of sense to me. The new changes suggest that finally I will have an MH game I can sink dozens of hours into. Very pleased to learn of these changes, especially the map, the feature I've disliked the most in every previous MH game.
Trust me man I did that with monster hunter world when it first released. I played 30 hours and got “bored” came back after a few months and with a better understanding of making builds (specifically getting a focus gem for my greatsword build) and I now have 1500 hours on world/IB. Give it a shot it’s one of my favorite games of all time!
Wait so u never liked monster hunter because you have to..... hunt the monsters? and because you have to.... loot? So what you want a game where you just spawn ontop of the monster everytime and dont ever have to loot anything?
@@MolezHD Uhm....no, that's not what I said. I said that the way MH implements and presents that loop is one I don't get on with compared to other kinds of open world loot and crafting games.
Upgraded my pc to a high end build just for this game. Been playing since mhfu and this the most excited I have been, can’t wait to sink 3k+ hours on it
@@janmoret517 Even if you got a 7800x3d and a 4090 you're not going to be getting much higher than 60 unless you want to deal with the issues frame gen introduces. Even then that'll only get you to 100.
I'm absolutely floored by Wilds. I feel like I'm actually HUNTING the monsters now, and living off the land in a way. It felt so good to just go onto the map and fight instead of cooking a meal, going to handler, picking a quest, then getting thrown into the map. I kept my expectations low, but with the changes to my favorite weapons, and the fact you can carry 2 weapons now, the hype is real. Normally I go back to world or rise when I get a kick, but I can't go back after playing the beta.
Love to hear about this change in game design direction. I loved MH World. Like with many PC-centric players, it was my first Monster Hunter. But I hated how much time pressure was put on you as a player (similar to God Eater, which comes from the same Devs, right ?) and especially how your time rapidly ticket down once the target monster was dead. Here, harvest your prize in 30 seconds or lose it ! W-Why ? Let me stay for a moment, jeez ! XD Man I hated that hard ! Good thing it is full open world now, basically, and seemless co-op to boot. Will so play this ! Maybe I can convince some nerdy friend to give it a try for full multiplayer fun ^^
I think this will be my fav mh game yet, the one thing I hope they add for console is an in between option for graphics and performance. Cuz I need steady frames but on performance mode it just makes the game look a bit fuzzy but other than that this game is so amazing 👏

@@telltaleheart839 yeah but if you look at the end of his tongue he's got big spikes. That would HURT
The beta was pure CRACK! Cannot wait for the full release
An expansion is guaranteed with Monster Hunter; it’s been that way since MH1. Expect 3 years, minimum, of new features and monsters. 😊
@ Hope people remember who I am after I disappear for 3+ years hunting
The other games of 2025 are like death stranding 2 and like that ninja game from sucker punch. Will Resident Evil Remake come out on the 30th anniversary? Or at least I mean the same 2026 year? I just played the PS4 version of the gamecube remake and that was a hell of a remake back then.
Another awesome video. I'm having a blast with the Beta too. February can't come soon enough!
hope they will consider bringing in akantor and ukanlos
The hub mechanics they figured out is absolutely fabulous. I could not believe how seamless everything felt.
100%. The shit performance (even on "Performance mode" mind you) took me out completely.
I’ve played 7 hours on the beta and haven’t had any issues so far?
I went from being really excited for this game to being concerned about performance from playing the beta. No matter how you swing it this needs to be addressed and I hope capcom makes a statement regarding it.
Good thing I have a good job lmao
Best game series ever man. And Capcom should be praised
Never played any, I am hyper for this coming one. Any recommendations on which series similar to this so I get myself familiar with MH?
I loved it but I had network connection issues so had to solo hunt. Hopefully it works better on release. Otherwise I thought it was great as a huge fan of the series I think this could end up my favourite.
wish the fps was pure fire too
It's a dumpster 🔥 😂
Won’t happen until console company’s actually use good hardware for their systems pc will always be dominant for amazing graphics and solid fps
@@patrickmartin4327hi end pcs. Not mid- low end pcs which most are

@@patrickmartin4327 you do know that most people have pc that has less power than a ps5 right. Even on most people pc, the game is probably going to run worse.
Yes it is playable right now for sure, but you basically have no choice except bad framerate or bad resolution, needs to be some optimization asap
that's why this is a beta test. they gather data and feedback from this beta to further optimize and improve the game.
Yeah as good as the gameplay is I'm not going to buy it with this kind of performance. Performance mode looks and runs like a Switch port.
@@amysteriousviewer3772 Its beta of course it will be better in the main game.
@@RussellDrumss Thats what they said about dragons dogma lmao
been playing dual blades over the weekend and it was a blast.
Can't wait for this.
played on PS5 and PC and it ran and looked so much better on PC (not shocked, but still) they absolutely knocked it out of the park
I LOOOOOVED my time with the beta. I cant wait for the full release!
Already pre ordered on PC. Waiting till February is going to hurt.
I am glad they tweaked the weapons. Its so much fun to master the weapons. It will be nice to learn again. I am super stoked to play this tonight.
However, this is going to be a landmark video game release for Capcom and our time 😅 🎉❤
Glad y’all were able to enjoy the beta!
SOOOO HYPED FOR FULL RELEASE
So ready for this game. February 28th can’t come quick enough
so pumped to play this beta on pc this weekend
There's no negative about being able to use two weapons. I mean you don't have to use two different kinds of weapons you could use, for instance, all double blades or dual blades and then have a different element in your backup. And now you're prepared for multiple types of monsters
Does your gear set change if you switch weapons?
I'm loving the demo. I am definitely going to be maining the switch axe unless they somehow nerf it considerably.
The addition of the counter attack and offset attack have opened up so many possibilities for that weapon.
Lovely summary, completely agreed and looking forward Wilds.
Love it. Playing dual blades as my main weapon and deciding between light or heavy bowgun as my secondary.
I think I’m choosing the heavy as my secondary because I like that offset move it has to blow up some monsters lol
@@TheUltimateRey Heavy feels really good. The option to use it while mounted is great too!
@ my thoughts exactly! I was wondering if mounted bow gun would be viable and from what I’ve played I think so
I just love the movement of the mounts and characters in this game!
Downloading this instead of Dragon Age 🔥
I'm gonna be a hermit next spring, i shall HOONT !
This beta is better than other full game
The game is really fun and has alots of contents
The weapon swapping mechanic is pretty unique not as good as just pressing a button but it feels like this is how it should work irl
This is a game I see myself playing for years to come. Throw Dragon Age Veilguard in the trash, and save the money for this game!
Haven't played any of the previous games, but after the Beta, it's a definite buy!
@rezterralico4369 nice, sounds like i will sink many many hours into this haha
Thank you! I didn't know there was an open beta.
I don't normally pre-order games. But in this case, I don't think you can go far wrong. The beta is awesome. The game runs super smoothly on the PS5 in performance mode.
I don't care what others will say, I'm going to pre order. This Beta is really good already and got me sold.
It took 2 decades, but they finally figured out the map.
can't wait to play on pc! i couldn't get into MH Rise for whatever reason , so glad wilds is more like world
I'm getting the pro so I'm not that worried.
Already playing for10 hours (early access ps plus on ps5) 😅🤣😂
Switch axe and hammer user here
Seamless hunting from Wilds is very Wild 😂🤣
Thank you DD2 for being an open world test subject for what is bound to be the best MH! 😀
I ended up finally getting Iceborne because of this beta, and it is also amazing!
I CAN'T WAIT FOR THIS GAME TO COME OUT!!!
It's fantastic. It is in every way an improvement over World which remains a top 3 game for me. I'm so stoked.
It’s great to hear it’s not more of the same. They seem to have raised the bar 💪
In a way, it reminds me of Public Events from Destiny. Like I could just be drawn in to a fight that I can help out in
SO true. SO much like destiny. Good point to bring up.
Just dozens?
@FellixNoAmatsu dozens is a lot for some people. But yeah for a MH game that's pretty weak lol.
The game is looking fantastic
I've never really got into Monster Hunter but this looks pretty sick
Upgraded my pc to a high end build just for this game. Been playing since mhfu and this the most excited I have been, can’t wait to sink 3k+ hours on it
Only way to realistically get the most out of it
@@Worick_yeah bro I had to ain’t no way I was gonna be playing on 30 or 60fps😂
@@janmoret517 Even if you got a 7800x3d and a 4090 you're not going to be getting much higher than 60 unless you want to deal with the issues frame gen introduces. Even then that'll only get you to 100.
Did you get that "larger than life" in a script? Sounds as genuine as "return to form" from the other recent game.
You need to work on your comprehension. We were criticizing that aspect of world and highlighting wilds is not that way.
I never thought they could improve so much on the Monster Hunter World magic. But fuck… Capcom did something amazing and it’s JUST the beta.
TBH this game deserves players, they did even better, innovative!
Im already hyped before playing it, now im 100% sure that Will be the best game for ME of the next year.
Awesome!
XD
Man I hated that hard ! Good thing it is full open world now, basically, and seemless co-op to boot. Will so play this ! Maybe I can convince some nerdy friend to give it a try for full multiplayer fun ^^
one of the best reviewers and youtubers strike again
I think this will be my fav mh game yet, the one thing I hope they add for console is an in between option for graphics and performance. Cuz I need steady frames but on performance mode it just makes the game look a bit fuzzy but other than that this game is so amazing 👏
I've never played MH before by choice. But this new one I'm really interested in, it just looks really cool.
