- The final battle and best possible "Paragon" ending for Mass Effect 2. Also of note is the Cain nuke launcher used against the human reaper larva. Having all team members loyal and full Normandy upgrades, the result is that no one dies, the station is destroyed, and Harbinger is pissed off because his collector puppets are dead and he now has to make his way back "on foot" with his reaper buddies from dark space. Full HD (h.264/aac) taken with Fraps and converted with Avidemux. Enjoy!
The Reapers appearing from dark space is, in my opinion (and probably many other's), one of the best and most epic endings in gaming history.
That's my favorite part about the ending. The music actually fits pretty well with it, too.
It's also one of the most terrifying. I got into the series pretty late; late enough to play through all 3 within a couple of weeks. Having finished ME1 a few days before and seeing just how powerful Sovereign was, I had no clue how in the hell we were going to fight off that many. My first reaction to this ending was "ooohhh, shit."

My buddy beat the game right before I did, and told me there was a surprise at the end. I nearly shit myself when I saw all those damn Reapers coming to our galaxy. Ending was freaking epic indeed.

I told somebody the 3rd game shoulda been called Mass Effect 3:The Shit Hits The Fan. Lol. After watching Sovereign solo tanking a fleet of ships in the first game, and then seeing this ending, I was like how in the fuck are we gonna stop that many Reapers.

Both of my levels are 1&2 ..did almost all loyality mission but jack and miranda fight...lost the loyality to Miranda and now the dialogue is locked...any help?

JAYDOG1337A Well, in my play-through I was paragon, BUT there were some renegade choices I used, Like head butting krogan, but more notably the ending. I used the pulse instead, But it was still just as epic.
Seth ノートン yeah yeah, we ALL headbutted the krogan, but using the pulse helps cerberus in the third game, and pulls you more toward the renegade control ending
JAYDOG1337A I actually support Cerberus all the way until The illusive man went bat-shit insane near the ending, I was angry that you couldn't support them In Mass Effect 3. And none of mass effect 3's ending are really paragon or renegade, choosing control as paragon shepard gives you the speech where he/she says that they will serve as a guardian.

At the last moment, the Collector General's face becomes serene.
This is the best fucking ending to any game ever made. The feeling of success and hope you gain from completing your mission and also the hype that's created right at the finish is brilliant.

+Dexyu ME end is unbeatable in any way in my opinion, I think it was too rushed in 2 when I got to the end there were so many things lacking deeper improvement that I couldn't care even for my squadmates loss.
JonatasMonte Well for each their own, i didn't find anything lacking, sure the suspense was a bit annoying you had to plot out missions to do it all. But ending was totally not rushed. You went in there had you cinematics, had you fight and then had to plan and then boss.

I love how harbinger releases the collectors right at the very end, finally giving them their minds back, only for them to have moments seeing what the reapers had turned them into, to see themselves as the deformed monstrosities the had become, barely alive, part synthetic, part organic monsters. He gives the collectors moments to comprehend everything they have subjugated them too over thousands of years, their last moments of free will are spent looking at what their once proud and beautiful race has become, and realizing it had been worse than destroyed, it was now twisted, deformed, warped and turned into something hideous. They are forced to spend those last few precious seconds of freedom in sheer sorrow, helplessness and regret and in agonizing emotional pain before finally being laid to rest.
The last remnants of the protheans finally being at peace...
There is no word for how much of a fantastically brutal a villan harbinger is, he is simply magnificent, he is both hated and loved, both admired and dispised, both beautiful and horrific, this is a character with a depth i felt was wasted in ME3, he could have had so much more time in the game, he was just incredible. He is a symbol of everything you are fighting against, and the collectors are a symbol of everything you will become if you fail. He is more lothesome than any other villian i have ever seen.
This is a franchise that BioWare deserve to be applauded for, the writing was spectacular and those last few seconds with the reapers in shot.

Whoami691 He never freed the collectors he simply released his hold on the collector general (whom he had been controlling through out all of ME2. It's been shown that the only way a collector (not sure about the other reaper units) can regain themselves is through the Levithan artifacts in ME3 and thus we are able to play as one in the multiplayer. I still love what you wrote dude and I wish it was canon I really really do.

Am I the only one who actually felt bad for the collectors? After a few play throughs, I began to pity them as they were merely tools of the reapers. The last scene with the general as he is released by harbinger just made me feel for him and his race. Thoughts?
I do feel the same. The Collectors are Protheans who have undergone extensive experimentation by the Reapers, and were used as tools to further their goals. It's tragic. And, yes, that scene with the General is actually one of the saddest moments of the three games.
Harbinger relinquishing control of its body, and watching it briefly make sense of what's occuring before realizing that its about to die, is just cruel. Felt sorry for the guy as he watched the incoming flames.
I was wondering the same thing , to me that's the best Cutscenes in all the Games I've played. After you pickup your crew talk to Joker , Then Harbinger with His ominous Voice ridiculing You During Chase to Normandy ! Then
"You Have Failed! " and " We will find another way!" even on Insanity Difficulty I just have to replay that level for those Cutscenes. So yeah I agree with your feeling , It made me Think 1) how Sad the Collector General looked 2) is this what Harbinger had planned for Shepard.
remember the leviathan dlc for mass effect 3, well those artifacts found were used on some collector troops and while most died, some vowed revenge against the reapers and you can play as them in multi-player, harbinger said "releasing control", meaning that the reapers maintained constant control because the collectors were still prothean at heart, I think the expression the collector general gives is one of relief, he can finally die after causing god knows how many innocent deaths against his will

Beating ME2 with full paragon and everyone lives on insanity was by far the absolute, single best, science fiction moment of my life. I am nearly 50 years old and have been immersed in sci-fi my entire life. Drew Karpyshyn is a true genius in this, his creation. It's a shame Mac Walters fucked it up with ME3 when Karpyshyn was pulled to do Star Wars--The Old Republic.

It's the little touches here that you've got to love. Right as Harbringer releases control, the Collector General reaches up to the hologram in supplication. I like to imagine that as the glow of Harbringer's direct control fades from its eyes, it realizes exactly what it's done, what it was bred for. In that moment, it realizes that it was a pawn. A tool, to be used and discarded.
It slumps listlessly, and looks back at the approaching wall of fire with something that seems almost like resignation. It understands its fate, and just before being consumed, wonders if maybe, just maybe, things could have been different.
I often wonder if maybe in that moment that collector had memories come back from it's old Prothean life and welcomes his approaching death after so many years.

FanNotANerd No, they are not sentient. They can't realize right from wrong and they are not at all truly aware of what's happening around them. They have no emotion. As you said, they were created as tools and tools don't have thoughts or feelings.

I think one of the best things about this ending and game is knowing you could lose team mates. So there's this tension that is always there that is like "Did I do it?" and then seeing any of your team mates in danger you're like "Fuck, are they gonna die?".
You become so invested in the characters and knowing that they can die but also finally knowing that, yes you did save everyone, becomes both a huge relief and of the most epic and satisfying endings.
Pareidolia I only had fear if it was something unavoidable. I spent too much time building the team and knowing that I have tactical skill and an ability to make the right choices made me entirely confident. I was just worried about a scripted death that would be canon. I was disappointed when I learned that the choices you had to make were all common sense choices.
That moment you feel empty inside after finishing a good game or a movie.
Strange because I was Renegade Femshep almost the whole way and I also made the Paragon choice to destroy the station. Then I told him off like Renegades do. You cant fire me Illusive Man. I quit! :P
Then I proceeded to invite Garrus up to my cabin again to do the deed.
I had this dialogue in my mind:
TIM: "Shepard, spare the base! We need the base!"
Shepard: "But I like blowing things up!"
TIM: "Shepard, I order you! I made you, you owe me!"
Shepard: "But I like blowing things up!!!"
*Base explodes*
TIM facepalms.
Shepard: "MWAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA"

I love that line, mainly because it removes that for the greater good mask the illusive man's been wearing this whole time and shows the real him. Selfish, Arrogant, and willing to let every human burn to get his own orginization on top.

This line always get me shivers. And with that ending you got insane victories but still are powerless against the Reaper armies... just so eery and frightening.
The reapers appearing out of space almost simultaneously made my heart drop so fast.
I was only thinking, " Fuck... This is going to be bad."

+Seal Over It depends on the last choice. If you choose to keep the base, the sun is red, if you choose to destroy it, the sun is blue. My brother went full Paragon but chose to keep the base in the end and the sun was red despite having a full paragon bar.

Harbinger indoctrinated the collector commander to ensure loyalty, but the comander was still in control of his actions, the only collectors in harbingers direct control were the scions, troopers, abominations etc. But not the comander

There has never been a bigger "you are fucked" moment in video game history than 8:10. Still as spine-tingling today as it was the day I first finished the game. Nothing short of cinematic brilliance from bioware.

I reloaded the boss fight halfway through because i used the Cain and thought this is somehow unepic so i did just the last few shots with it :D

Mass Effect needs to be a movie. If they give it a huge budget, good director, and make the movie about story rather than action, it would be a massive success.
I agree the game will be better no matter what, but the material really is good enough to be condensed into a couple movies really well

Impossible. Maybe as a TV series of about four or five seasons will be one Mass Effect game, but a movie? You crazy son. Mass Effect is bigger then Game of Throne's world and story. From what I heard, the last writer who attempted to make this into a movie quitted because there was just too much lore, science, world building, and character making to do.

I love Ending of ME2, the arrival of reapers and that epic music... Epicness level 100001, sooo cool, best moment overall... of this sort.
When Harbinger releases control of the Collector General, I always feel bad for him. He looks sad and even regretfull in a way, like he still feels like his Prothean heritage and he feels regret for being forced to do the Reapers bidding. And he has a moment of clarity of genuine regret and acceptance of his fate. Damn Mass Effect 2 had a great story. Best sequal ever imo

It was SO satisfying when I got this ending. Got it on my first run because I was one of those paranoid completionists who had to get everything done, including dumb side quests lol.

Rarely anyone picks the middle option for the last dialogue between the TIM and Shepard for this. But for it defines what Paragon Shepard is
“And I’m gonna do exactly what you brought me back to do. I’m going to win this fight, and I’ll do it without sacrificing the soul of our species.”
That’s Paragon Shepard throughout the series, and this line is missed by so many.

Never gets old. That final shot with shepard looking out into the void of space and the reapers approaching after 50,000 years. It's so hype.

I will go to my grave saying the last 15 seconds of ME2 are the 15 greatest in video game storytelling history. Not one word said yet not one word needed to let the gamer know what terrifying horrors await. The climatic music, that malevolent bright yellow glint in Harbinger's eyes, the hundreds of tiny pyramid specks behind him as the Reaper fleet emerges from dark space, the full view of the Milky Way galaxy in front of them... I really don't think the terror and true power of the Reapers sets in and shivers your spine until you see this final scene. Just a masterclass from Bioware.

It is the tear 2022 and the Mass Effect 2 ending is still one of the best endings out there.

Me personally, I find the paragon ending even for a renegade shep is better. It is something an asshole would do. My fem shep is a renegade with some "paragon tendencies" or at least more balanced than my idealistic male shepard. However male shepard made critical mistakes (causing the death of Wrex from Ashley and caused the deaths of the council)
Honestly for some reason I really feel bad about destroying the base. TIM brought you back from the dead and you basically tell him to go eat it and he gets really upset at you and everything... I feel bad destroying the base simply because of TIM;s feelings. :P For some reason...

But you find out the truth in ME3, that's what matters.

Yeah but if you played ME3 and you choose to replay the trilogy, your first goal is logically to make decisions that seem right in your eyes because you have a global view of the franchise. But whatever, I chose to destroy the base even before I played ME3, TIM thought Shepard was his toy just because he brought him back to life. He didn't really want Shepard to have his free will, he just wanted to give the illusion that he was having his free will but he expected him to do what he wanted him to do. The only reason he refused to put a control chip in Shepard's brain is because he was afraid that Shepard became weaker and less capable. He wanted his toy to stay intact.
Here after the latest Destiny 2 cutscene was so reminiscent of this. The Witness is coming!
The fact that Joker, who would have died if he were probably even clipped by a stray bullet, was badass enough to lay down cover fire with an assault rifle goes to show how much every member of Sheperd's crew was willing to go so damn far because they believed in him.
To quote a die-hard ME fan:"I liked ME3 but I loved ME2."

when you collect legion a timer starts, you have 2 missions before the collectors attack the normandy, after they attack you lose more crew depending on whether you head straight for the base or not, so...
before you head to the disabled reaper, do everyones loyalty mission except for tali's, I'll explain why in a second, once you have done the loyalty missions head to the reaper to get legion, for the first of the two missions do tali's loyalty mission, the reason being that if you bring legion with you, you get some extra dialogue regarding legion being on a quarian vessel and even a mention about peace between quarians and geth one day being a possibility, also the quarian admirals will recognise legion in mass effect 3, when you get back to the normandy, legion will bring up his loyalty mission and you should head straight there to use the second mission, when you get back he and tali will argue and then when you try to travel the collectors will attack the ship, once that bit is done you can then head straight for the collector homeworld with everyone being loyal and the whole crew will survive, oh yeah make you have all the upgrades as well to the normandy.

ScrunchMcBunch unlike most others I thought the ending was good, but personal recommendation, buy the citadel dlc, it is way worth it, trust me you will cry your eyes out, oh yeah those instructions I gave before allow you just enough time to do the tali romance as long as you speak to her after every mission, including the collectors boarding, she is definitely the series best romance
Mass effect 2 was too good mass effect 3 could not live up to it.
Mass effect 3 did not disappoint. The whole trilogy was literally perfection besidesThe original ending. but they made up for it with the dlc imo. With the destroy ending.

Conversations just happened without your input...This game is all about the dialogue and talking and choices...
Even with all that...I'll give you that I did enjoy it until the Beam...
Citadel DLC was amazing though, renewed my trust in them.
+Dexyu Bioware originally had a badass ending to ME3 but it got leaked (something to do with dark energy from element zero eating up suns and causing rips in spacetime. The Reapers would harvest civilizations every 50,000 years to stop said civilization from becoming too advanced and destroying the universe from their use of mass effect fields) but once that got leaked EA told Bioware to come up with something and that's how we got the starchild and all that confusing non-sense

To be fair to mass effect 3 you can’t really live to up to the perfection that is ME 2’s ending.

One of the best hyped cinematic endings to a video game, especially after EDI says detonation in 10 and the ship flys out of their like a badass. this shit should be a movie.
The way you suddenly see all those reapers coming for you ass was just so amazing and they did fuck it up.

Love that sliding-catch down the broken platform. It's a silent, 'I'm not losing anyone!" It's not even a second thought.
What I love about the Paragon ending from a visual standpoint is the shot at about 6:30-6:40. The glowing eye implants against the dark background gives the Illusive Man an almost Husk-like look. Nice bit of foreshadowing for ME3 there.
You used the same party as me, had the same armor set and everything. I know its not too uncommon but it's great to see such a similar setup get the same ending as me.
