to be fair to the ending, we never should have gotten a choice on how we dealt with the reapers. ME2 established the galaxy hardly prepared for them in a meaningful capacity so the crucible was always a plot element they needed. The choices shouldve been everything leading up to the final battle with more in depth ending slides that do a better job at depicting how the galaxy's races are faring in the period recovering from the war.@@NEVAR177
Me too, but I re-loaded an earlier save and replayed a whole bunch of game to undo it. I know I'm supposed to live with the consequences of my actions, but.... I have absolutely no regrets. A future without Wrex was not one I wanted to live in. (I also thought companion deaths in battle were permanent, and reloaded every time any of them went down. I had heard people talk about characters dying for good in the series, presumably in reference to the choices in one and the Suicide mission in two, and assumed it was way more hardcore than it actually was. I was on the last few missions when I complained about constantly having to reload when somebody charged into fire, and my brother went "You know they revive automatically after combat, right?")

@@inquisitive6786 Yeah, I am obsessed with this game so I watch a lot of ME trilogy playthroughs and so many put on an act to be entertaining. Then the game hits them with real emotion and the act instantly falls away.
I assume the Wrex death for her was probably a lesson in not always going through the middle in dialogue options in the series, that’s probably one of my favorite parts about these games is that making a decisive decision is most often the best way to go
She couldn't pick renegade or paragon. They weren't lit up. Also she apparently missed the Wrex companion quest (guess she rushed things for the mainline story). I'm curious how her playstyle is going to impact ME2 with the squad loyalty issues.
@@jenniferhanses yea I assume she didn’t raise her renegade or paragon abilities at all or she might’ve tried to do a split of both abilities which can inhibit your chances for renegade or paragon dialogue options, I actually can’t blame her for missing the Wrex Side Quest because I never realized he had a mission until like my 3rd playthrough same with Garrus

This is one of the worst part of the game imo. Andromeda was mediocre but what it did best is let you actually express your character how you wanted to without locking you out the solutions to any major decisions. You succeeded or failed based on your decisions that were relevant to the situation, not based whether you got a high enough "scoret" by bullying or helping an orphan two planets over.
Dang, her difficulty with making decisions is exemplified by her always choosing the middle option. Rex’s life on the line - middle options. Council’s lives on the line - middle option. Difficult decision? Play it down the middle baby.
Which may had been a problem if she had played on the original version. Not having enough Renegate or Parangon point had some dire consequences later on. ME is all about making though decision in a decisive maner. Here her indecision got Wrex killed. Hope she learns from it.
@@jenniferhanses Not putting points into those stat's still amounts to a choice to not pick those options though so it could still be argued Tarny's habit of middlepicking is to blame in this case.
Crazy timing - I just started playing the Mass Effect trilogy, as well! Excited to watch along as I do my own playthroughs! P.S., I appreciate you blurring out the two options in the intro for spoiler's sake. Common Nick and Tarn W.
I am playing through this game with my wife. I beat the series myself on Insanity (I've platinumed the trilogy [and Andromeda]), and now we're going through together on Casual/Narrative. She gets motion sick very easy by controlling the player, so I am doing all movement and combat, but she is making all the dialogue choices and assignment of points and upgrades (basically, I'm facilitating her playthrough/story). She's also not a gamer, so its been an interesting experience so far. :)
12:55 "it just doesn't look as cool!" Me too girl me too, I am the same way ngl whenever I play an RPG I choose what looks better over better stats unless the stats are an extreme upgrade.
Her experience with the Codex is so wholesome! I’ve always just skimmed through them and learned about the lore on wikis or through videos. I never thought someone would use them as audiobooks 🤣 I bet the writters that put HOURS into those logs would be so happy about this.
I knew there was a reason for this bad feeling I got when I first saw both Paragon and Renegade dialogue options greyed out in a set of dialogue options...
Oh it's so cute to watch someone go through this series for the first time!! I can really put myself in Tarny's shoes as I was exactly the same on my first playthrough - listening to every little bit of investigation dialogue, and constantly combing through the Codex to get all that extra info and lore. I personally think that the first game is actually the best in the series, and I must say that even with multiple playthroughs I've only just now for the first time seen the first half of the final Saren boss 😅 Really looking forward to a continuation of this series, and her reactions to some of the big moments going forward! The final mission of ME2 is sure to be interesting if this is how she approached ME1!!
Well, that's the first time I ever see someone get Wrex killed, and also the first time I see someone fight Saren the old way. I thought she'd be more into dialogue, that's a surprise

I hope you're going to have Taryn do the more important DLCs as well. Those being Bring Down The Sky (ME1), Stolen Memory & Shadow Broker (ME2), and From Ashes & Leviathan (ME3). Those are all important to the overall story and help fill in the missing pieces of the lore.
Man, this takes me back. I didn't pick up Mass Effect until 2 came out and played 1 and 2 back to back. Mass Effect 3 is probably the most hyped I've ever been for a game. I wonder how Tarny will feel about it. XD
I resisted Mass Effect for a while but finally broke down and bought it a few months before ME2 came out. It has become my top three games of all time. I play it over again every few years.
That's how it was for me too. I played ME1 after ME2 had been out for a few months. I went through the 1st game and completed most of the achievements on my first run. But then I went to the second game and didn't look back.
Oh hell yeah, finally playing my favorite game series of all time. It will be so much fun to see what choices she makes over the course of the three games, and to see which will be her favorite by the end. Edit: Aw man, my boy Wrex. Definitely will affect the later games and miss out on some great character building. Whether good or bad in her opinion, we'll have to see.
I did not see Renegade!Tarny coming. Killing Wrex and the Council is interesting - I look forward to seeing what happens next! I always saved the Council because the other ten thousand innocent Asari on the Ascension with a combined lifespan of over a million years didn’t really deserve to die for three idiots.
@@KopperNeoman True! Future games reveal the Alliance loses 8 cruisers w/300 crew each. The choice comes down to 2400 humans vs 10000 asari (and 3 idiots).
She was playing with the info she had. If you don't know what will happen next, saving the Ascension is a foolish move that might cost you the entire galaxy. It's not about renegade/paragon. It's about the fact that you're outclassed, and the thing that has you outclassed is trying to call for back up, which if it succeeds, you will be screwed. So you can mess up your formations and pull fighters to go save one errant ship and maybe get the entire galaxy killed because they're not in position when they're needed, or you can stay focused on your actual mission.
Your girlfriend has a an intuitive understanding of right hand advantage. Good job! I'm happy to hear the excitement in her voice. I hope she loves ME2 as well. I'm looking forward to hearing about it.
Well, that was a joy to watch because of her excitement and pride in her work. She did an excellent job. I hope you won't make her or us wait before you give her ME2
Man she felt the way i felt when i was playing Mass Effect for the first time cheering and so in deep with the lore at the end. This earned yall a sub from me looking forward to her playing the other games
As a Mass Effect fan, I approve of this! It was very entertaining to see her get so invested into the characters, the story, worldbuilding, and that epic finale. Look forward to the Mass Effect 2 playthrough.
You are also possibly condemning the entire galaxy to die because you fell for a distraction when up against an enemy that has you outclassed and your only advantage at the moment is your numbers. But if Sovereign finishes what he's doing you're going to be outnumbered as well, and you and the entire galaxy will be boned. Do I like letting the council die? No. I skew paragon on pretty much everything. But it would be a dumb choice to go to the defense of the Ascension, and then lose your shot at Sovereign and have the Reapers come pouring through and massacre you. That's not GOING to happen because the game's not designed that way. But if you're playing it like a real choice, you're gambling with the safety of the galaxy. It's not 10,000 people die, it's 10,000 people or the billions of people across the galaxy die. You pick.
Oh man, I really hope the next videos are gonna be even longer and show her reacting to some things fully! There's just so much good stuff in there... Also love the description haha
All time favorite games, can't wait to see how she plays the others in the series. It'd be cool to show her the trailers for the games before playing them, help build the hype. I know waiting for 2 and 3 and replaying those trailers over and over cemented them in my memory.
hoo boy! she's now been introduced to a series that is one of the reasons i have such a love of stories, im looking forward to this (also it might be worth showing her the Dragon Age games with Veilguard releasing in a few weeks as well) :)
For quite a long time I had no idea that you can unintentionally kill Wrex. Also until right now, I didn't know that there was a possibility to kill Saren yourself. He always offed himself in all my playthroughs. 😅
Yeah not specing into charm or intim makes things a lot harder. My first playthrough I managed to save Wrex, but had to kill Saren myself since I didn’t spec into one far enough.
Well, this was a treat. You two are so adorable together and it was a ton of fun to watch. I couldn't stop smiling when you said she wore the same armor throughout the entire game. I had a similar experience when I first played the game, only it was related to armor mods instead of the armor itself. I didn't know you could add them on my first playthrough so shit was needlessly hard. I remember the Rachni level (the name escapes me for some reason) being basically survival horror because of it. It probably didn't help that Mass Effect was the first console game I'd played in probably ten years, so I was completely lost when it came to use the controller. I loved that game and played through it probably five times (and then was gifted the Legendary Edition, which I played through even more times), so playing through the Rachni level again while fully modded up is always fun. Kudos to her for pushing through, though. Especially since she knew there were better armors but actively chose to keep using the first one. Can't wait for the next two games (or three, if you do Andromeda too).
Can't wait for the Mass Effect 2 video! I've never played ME1, so I wasn't super invested in this one, but ME2 is an absolute masterpiece. She's gonna lose her mind when Mordin starts singing Scientist Solarian. And then the decisions in ME3 are just heart wrenching. Gonna be a great video.
As someone who has the platinum on 1 and 2...this was such a blast to watch. I've played the games so many times, so watching someone's first time was amazing. I got to relive my first time again through you guys!
This was such a great watch. Her excitement at the story reminded me of my own then and willingness to give this game a run through again when time arises! Thank you!
I suppose the popular opinion is the 'best' writing/dialogue is with the alien romances (Tali, Liara, Garrus, and Thane) but Kaiden, Ashley, Jack, and Miranda, are all quite likeable. I don't think I ever pursued the EDI romance option, but I imagine it's interesting. Jacob and James are too boring to waste a romance option on for femshep, but I suppose there may be fans of theirs who disagree.
@@AnoNymous-gn6tlJames is a complete bro, so at least some people might like having him as an option. His interactions with Jack would have been glorious if the latter had been made a part of the man crew in ME3, I can just feel it. Jacob is simply the worst, tho.
I approve GFs armor choice. And skilltrees are not a problem. Cleared 5-6 times on Insanity. Starter armor is still decent and any Onyx armor on Shep still looks like Starter N7 armor. Also Legendary Edition is really easy game, especially when you spend some time for sidequests and can just brute force game.
You only got away with that because ME1LE's "quality of life" changes made the player overpowered. Headshots? Weren't a thing. Steady sniping? Not a thing until you invested a crapload of points. The mechanical skill required to pick off your targets at a safe distance in original ME1 was part of the reason you needed good armour.
@@KopperNeoman yeah. That's why it's only 2 clears on LE for me. ME1 balanced around being RPG, not shooter. Also SPECTR Gear in LE just drops and upgrades, no need for farming it for it to become obsolete against Lv X gear.

When I first played this back in 2007, I killed Wrex simply because I couldn't believe the game was actually giving me that option.. at the time, too many games had an illusion of choice, but if you actually pushed them, they'd wuss out and funnel you to the "correct" answer.
Most choices in Mass Effect are puzzles, but it's nice that the game lets you screw up.
To be fair it doesn't really matter because eventually mass effect funnels you into the end anyways
to be fair to the ending, we never should have gotten a choice on how we dealt with the reapers.
@@NEVAR177 True but the Krogan dillema is one that works the best. Depending on many decisions the future of the Krogans can be drasticaly different.
I think my favorite part of these videos is the pure child-like glee you hear in her voice as the emotional and exciting parts of these games play out, the ending part of the video put a big smile on my face as I relived my excitement the first time I play this game so long ago with her screams of joy.
Looking forward to the next game, this is Commander Shepherd, and this is my favorite TH-cam power couple. Safe travels
It’s just acting lol but still kinda funny depending on what happens on screen
@@inquisitive6786 Yeah, I am obsessed with this game so I watch a lot of ME trilogy playthroughs and so many put on an act to be entertaining. Then the game hits them with real emotion and the act instantly falls away.
Wrex is my favorite character, but i need to know about the most important decision in the game. Did she punch the reporter?
It took me at least a dozen play throughs before finally seeing the path without punching them in any of the trilogy
Wrex dead? Oh baby noooooo... This is a disaster.
@@Inzaynmembrain97 LOL. Have you realized Kaidan has one? You may not have registered it because he doesn't give it to you, but it's dealing with all those human biotics who are rebelling.
@@jenniferhanses yeah that one I have found I don’t usually keep Kaiden alive in my playthroughs but yeah when I finally decided to do a run with him alive I found that one
She didn't have renegade/paragon options for Wrex. Middle option was her best option.
She just also apparently didn't do his quest.
@@jenniferhanses She didn't have renegade/Paragon options BECAUSE SHE ALWAYS PICKS THE MIDDLE - that's the entire point.
@@Atlessa That's not how ME 1 works.
You invest points to get the ability to do renegade paragon stuff.

Oh my god let's gooooo
Tali best girl. Garrus best boi.
That smooth transition into the ad gave me a lot of "I'm Commander Tarny, and this is my favorite product on the Citadel" vibes. 😆
I never thought someone would use them as audiobooks 🤣
I bet the writters that put HOURS into those logs would be so happy about this.
I personally think that the first game is actually the best in the series, and I must say that even with multiple playthroughs I've only just now for the first time seen the first half of the final Saren boss 😅
Really looking forward to a continuation of this series, and her reactions to some of the big moments going forward! The final mission of ME2 is sure to be interesting if this is how she approached ME1!!
Man, I barely hung through ME1 but fell in love with ME2 so hard I ended up going back and starting over. ... still didn't love ME1 though 😂
RIP Wrex...but I'm glad the enthusiasm for Joker is alive and well :)
damn, losing wrex is so sad, i'd have alt+f4'd as soon as i saw the greyed out dialogue
Well, that's the first time I ever see someone get Wrex killed, and also the first time I see someone fight Saren the old way. I thought she'd be more into dialogue, that's a surprise
ME Trilogy is one of the best RPG media in history. And seeing her being so genuinely excited about it makes me so happy.
Wrex-less run? Interesting….. I’m curious to see where this goes.
Maybe a rare outcome in one of the sequels can be achieved

On the up side, with Wrex dead, she's halfway to being able to save him.
You ever get the ending where he lives?
I like how she notices and points out how cool the Normandy with all its maneuvers and stuff with the help of Joker of course
To be able to experience this game for the first time again would be amazing. Seeing someone else get to experience Mass Effect for the first time and all the wonder that comes with it, that has to be just as good.

It's a pity that she's doing LE, to be honest, even though multiplayer likely isn't in the scope here.

It’s always so cathartic to see newcomers to Mass Effect fall in love with the world
The moment I saw this video, I verbally shouted, "YES!" I'm so glad you're sending her through Mass Effect
1:03 the music.. I always remember that music
You also have to counterweigh the human lives and all that... asari lives don't inherently matter more or less.
I'd love to see the unedited video of her going through the Suicide Mission
As a Mass Effect fan, I approve of this! It was very entertaining to see her get so invested into the characters, the story, worldbuilding, and that epic finale. Look forward to the Mass Effect 2 playthrough.
What most people seem to forget is, when you let the council die, you are also condemning ten thousand others to die as well.
I myself am a paragon player but in renegades' defense ten thousand people die either way. The only difference is who dies: aliens or humans
Sovereign is a threat to the entire galaxy. Focus soldier.

I just started M1 last night. It's a nice change of pace because I don't ever play choice based games quite like this.
I played this series for the first time in the past half year and has become one of my most favorite games/series ever. Welcome aboard.
hoo boy! she's now been introduced to a series that is one of the reasons i have such a love of stories, im looking forward to this (also it might be worth showing her the Dragon Age games with Veilguard releasing in a few weeks as well) :)
I love that she made pretty much every single decision I did on my first playthrough.
For quite a long time I had no idea that you can unintentionally kill Wrex. Also until right now, I didn't know that there was a possibility to kill Saren yourself. He always offed himself in all my playthroughs. 😅
Yeah not specing into charm or intim makes things a lot harder. My first playthrough I managed to save Wrex, but had to kill Saren myself since I didn’t spec into one far enough.
frantic guy runs into the closed door full speed knocking him out. tarny: good lord. tarny shepard: *raises eyebrow*

I absolutely can not fucking wait to see the ME2 and 3 playthroughs. I kinda wish this had been like a 2 hour long video of the whole saga.
As a legitimate Kaiden fan, I'm glad she enjoys the flirty moments with him. He's so underappreciated
