It is kind of strange that Toho essentially swapped positions with Gamera, the child friendly answer to Godzilla, as the Heisei Gamera series are some of the darkest kaiju movies ever while Mothra’s films are…this.
That movie might what gives Lovecraft his biggest nightmares: a lost underwater city, all clean and tidy and filled with cuddly furbies and nosy Kennies
In fairness, though, the movie's never boring. Never a minute goes by where there isn't some slapstick hijinks or monster action, so small children will always be kept engaged and entertained. The first time I watched this movie, I found I had to go to the bathroom midway through, and told myself "I'll pause it when the movie next has a down moment." I ended up having to hold it the whole rest of the way!!
Japan actually has an average of 1500 earth quakes each year, due to the entire nation being on the volcanic Ring of Fire. So even though this one is.. slapstick convenient, they really do just happen some times.
Legendary Pictures managed to do something in Godzilla vs Kong that even Brandon can't deny... they created a "Kenny" that is undeniably adorable and useful in the story. I'd love to see you review THAT movie. :D
I don't even think of her as a "Kenny." I mean are all child characters in giant monster movies "Kenny's" now? Also, while Legendary didn't make the child character annoying (hard to do since she was mute) they've done a great job in creating adult characters that have either been annoying or uninteresting. (Though I'll take the three Legendary Godzilla movies over these god-awful Mothra movies any day of the week.)

I remember watching this in the living room to my old house and my mom was sitting there talking with her friends and she said and I quote this is the weirdest movie ever thinking about it now this is FAR from the weirdest one ever.
My brother and I watched these movies together as teens, we didn't want to rip it completely apart but we really laughed so hard because we didn't expect the wierd comedy, especially in this one

I had this film on VHS as a kid and I thought I fever dreamed the part where Ghogo golden showers a man back to health until I rewatched it a couple years ago and nope, this movie really has furby healing pee. What a ride.
My friends and I really enjoyed this film when we saw it a couple years ago. We never called the little fluffy monster “Gorgo” his name to us was always Sea Chicken!
The irony is that Daghara came back first, he was briefly seen flying above Sydney in the opening of the 2017 Godzilla: Planet of Monsters anime on Netflix, the prequel novel that never made it to the states also states that the Barem(starfish monsters) returned aswell

While the first movie looked to be more fun and child-friendly, this one really makes me question if kids were the target demographic for this sequel. Seeing that this "Kids Movie" has a little blood, a "money shot", and what I'll be calling "Magical Healing Piss". Great episode.
For some reason i always call this mothra "Larvara" to differentiate him from his mom and sister, i also rather see him fight Battra and have mothra fight Dagahra i think those match ups fit better

I loved this movie as a kid. I thought Dagarah had a cool design and the stuff in the temple showed up in alot of my dreams going up.
