Battra isn't really an "evil" version of Mothra. He's basically Mothra's BROTHER, but they are also Yin and Yang to each other. Both have the goal of protecting Planet Earth, but Battra feels that humanity needs to be wiped out in order for Earth to survive. Mothra, however, vehemently believes humans deserve the exact same rights to life as all the rest of Earth's species, even if they do often have destructive tendencies, and this is why Mothra and Battra clash with each other. Mothra: Please brother! Don't force me to kill you! Battra: You fight to protect those who don't deserve protection, Mothra! That's why I am stronger than you!

This is my favorite Godzilla movie, not just in the Heisei series, but in the entire franchise in general. The music is great, the story was great, and it has my favorite Kaiju, Mothra, in it. Not to mention Mothra going into space with the music playing is the most triumphant ending I have ever seen.
Well you see the reason is because at the end of Ghidora was a Tuesday, the meteor strike was on Thursday. So it would be like you were woken up at midnight, fall back asleep, then the dog barks at two. You'd be annoyed too.
I like Battra, and I think he needs more usage in movies. The whole Yin and Yang thing with Mothra and his design and abilities are my favorite aspects about him. He’s one of the kaiju I wanna see in Legendaty’s Monsterverse.

It's just that in Heisei G-series, which tried to be more realistic looking and was teen oriented, this cute design felt very out of place (tho at least it didn't look like a fucking suturday morning cartoon that was G Junior in the 1994 movie). "Rebirth of Mothra" trilogy were silly campy kid films, yet Mothra designs there got toned down, with some even looking bad ass.

There's this theory that when Mothra placed that seal after dropping Godzilla and Battra it slowly made Godzilla good so that he can protect the earth while Mothra was busy with the meteor
I can believe that if any Kaiju could seal off evil, and anger it would be Mothra. Maybe that vengeance then went into Space, and Sea thus creating SpaceGodzilla/Destoroyah.
It's such a shame that Battra hasn't appeared in another movie. He's one of my favorite kaiju. I personally loved Mothra's beautiful redesign and some of the music themes are way catchy.

Ha funny now I’m starting to think now that throughout the years that both Godzilla and Mothra has been fighting each throughout the years within the Tohoverse they finally manage to gain symbiotic relationship (mainly just friends) with each other. Well this film has been one of those interesting histories that both Godzilla and Mothra had with each other.
Here's some advice. If he uploads any major property like a Japanese monster movie or something from lionsgate, watch as soon as you can as it may not be there when you next go looking a day or more later.

I’m especially grateful for this latest video because El Rey Network canceled their annual Christmas Kaiju Marathon. They were the only channel left on TV where I could find classic Godzilla and other giant monster movies. Thank you, Brandon, for helping me get my Kaiju Fix this holiday season.
Yeah seriously, Toho needs to stop flagging this stuff. It's not a good look on them, and it certainly doesn't help their business to shut down free marketing.
My biggest problem with this movie is that, it doesn't know what movie it wants to be. Is it Mothra, Godzilla vs Mothra, Godzilla vs The Giga-Moth, or maybe Mothra vs The Giga-Moth? Godzilla vs Mothra is a movie that never coalesces into a single film, but is one that keeps changing what movie it is every 5 min. It's basically a Mothra trilogy in vignette form co-staring Godzilla, who really didn't need to be in this movie at all. Which is a shame because it has the second or third best effects in the Heisei era
**note** I do know that Godzilla vs the Gigamoth and Mothra vs the Gigamoth are unmade Toho projects, and that Battra is what the Gigamoth concept would eventually evolve into. I'm not completely stupid.
I've always considered this movie to be kind of an unofficial Rebirth of Mothra 0. The model they used for Mothra here is the same one they used for the Mother Mothra in RoM1, so I always figured they were one and the same creature. And imagining this as RoM0 makes sense. Mothra and Battra team up to defeat Godzilla at the cost of Battra's life, Mothra seals Godzilla away forever with that giant glyph at the end, and then she goes on to years later lay an egg before RoM1 happens. The next Godzilla movie, Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II, doesn't explain how Godzilla escaped from the seal at all, so it's like it takes place in an alternate timeline where the sealing process never happened.

The oceanic fight sequence (seen here at 9:29) goes on FOREVER. And the editing is constant 'quick-cut' between the two monsters. What I did....each time they'd switch from one monster to the other, I'd yell "Marco" then "Polo". Try it. It really adds to the movie.

To be fair, Battra’s eye lights had gone out, so he was already dead when she dropped him and Godzilla. Then again, she may have positioned him by Godzilla’s mouth on purpose.
Fun fact, the original draft for this was Mothra vs Bagan, before it was reworked to Mothra vs Gigamoth and finally Godzilla vs Mothra. In fact Godzilla is the third wheel in this because Battra took the role of the primary antagonist Bagan/Gigamoth, and they stuck Godzilla in pretty much for name branding.
Mothra vs bagan was it's own thing. This was started as godzilla vs gigamoth and gigamoth was replaced by mothra but simultaneously reworked into battra. Godzilla was always intended to be in the film. The film just gives godzilla such little motivation that he feels like a third wheel in what is basically a rivalry between mothra and battra

The model they used for Mothra here is the same one they used for the Mother Mothra in RoM1, so I always figured they were one and the same creature. And imagining this as RoM0 makes sense. Mothra and Battra team up to defeat Godzilla at the cost of Battra's life, Mothra seals Godzilla away forever with that giant glyph at the end, and then she goes on to years later lay an egg before RoM1 happens. The next Godzilla movie, Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II, doesn't explain how Godzilla escaped from the seal at all, so it's like it takes place in an alternate timeline where the sealing process never happened.

Oh my God I got so pissed with Mothra in this movie when Iwas a kid. She pretty much sacrificed her brother to take out Godzilla with no remorse. Vindictive is an understatement
To be fair, Battra’s eye lights had gone out, so he was already dead when she dropped him and Godzilla. Then again, she may have positioned him by Godzilla’s mouth on purpose.
let us know when you start on the Gundam vs. Godzilla script. that sounds like a really fun watch.
This movie could have been a lot better but Battra is one of the coolest kaiju especially his larva stage.
Fun fact, the original draft for this was Mothra vs Bagan, before it was reworked to Mothra vs Gigamoth and finally Godzilla vs Mothra. In fact Godzilla is the third wheel in this because Battra took the role of the primary antagonist Bagan/Gigamoth, and they stuck Godzilla in pretty much for name branding.
Mothra vs bagan was it's own thing. This was started as godzilla vs gigamoth and gigamoth was replaced by mothra but simultaneously reworked into battra. Godzilla was always intended to be in the film. The film just gives godzilla such little motivation that he feels like a third wheel in what is basically a rivalry between mothra and battra
