Saw Jean Luc and his band a bunch of times between Santa Barbara and the SF Bay Area in the 80s and 90s. Such an incredible violin player with an inimitable style and sound...
This music was written by Guy N'sangue. The inspiration comes from makossa which is typically from Douala in South-West part of Cameroon. Mix of Jazz and African music always something really amazing.
Amazing bassline indeed. For the solo, there's a dude who've done a cover.. i'll try to get the link and post it. When he took his solo, the song changed completely.. 😇😇
The Bass Player, Guy N'sangue Akwa, The song was made after him, Mouna Bowa means the "son of the country" in his mother tong. The Melody was probably inspired by him also as the whole song and rythm is from central Africa, Cameroon, his homeland.
That has to be one of the most perfect live performances I've seen in my life. Great musicianship from all concerned and a tremendous camaraderie between the musicians. It's just a tiny bit of a shame that the bass guitarist didn't have his amp turned a little bit louder so that his solo could be heard in more detail, and with a little more volume, the deliberate feedback would have been audible. Amazing though and I could sit and watch this forever. Thanks for uploading :-)
This has been one of my favorite songs for the better part of 20 years. Find out today it was Hijacked by SCI I always thought they wrote this MASTERPIECE

Guy Nsangue has his signature all over this song ,growing up up in Cameroon like Guy ,I had an opportunity to hang out with him ,he is by far the most talented bassist of our generation. Makossa is the most popular music of Cameroon, music of the Sawa community, Douala and all its suburbs.

I think this song is from the bass player, once I heard them live in Providencia Jazz !! Great !!
Pablo Arturo Velázquez Carpio means the local child ,Guy is a big brother and friend ,a genius on bass .probably one of the best bass player in Europe and Africa ,his talent is out of this world . He is among those who inspired richard bona
One of the greatest violinist off all time ia a privilege to listen to his music

Love to see him play this with the String Cheese Incident but this is an incredible bunch of musicians also....
They are the original players of it.
Wasn't this song originally published as "Tchokola"? What a BRILLIANT song, anyway. One of my absolute favorites of all time!
It was on the 'Tchokola' LP.
