It's funny ( me being an African- American musician) but Jean luc Ponty really opened the door ( Tchkola album )for me to really search out African music like Anjilique Kidjo, Fela Kuti, Brice Wassy, Salief Keita, Les Go Dan Gna and many others.
@fmatl2000........Yes I was there too, it was an awesome concert. I met him backstage after everyone left and he was so gracious, he and his bandmates. Classic, genius in action! It was a VIP experience..
His music is timeless. I watched the music awards recently, and couldnt believe the shit that is currently being produced ! What's worse, is that people actually buy it... Jean Luc needs to tour the states more....
5/4 with hi'hat in 4/4 and kick in 3/4,trust me I've played this, charted it and I nailed it!!!I believe this is the hardest drum line I've ever heard as far as polyrhythms and fluidity!!
He is THE MASTER. I, too, have seen him many times. The first was years ago in Boston at Berklee Performance Center. Super fantastic. I rose to applaud several times and have been a BIG fan ever since. Come back to the area, Jean-Luc!
ELEGANT! Such an amazing tone. JLP is totally chopsalicious and could shred the strings right off if he wanted to but he NEVER plays for the notes (i.e. to impress) but always for the music. I'd give this 6 stars if I could. PS check out JLP live album from 1979 - it's rare but very worthwhile!
Jean-luc is just one of the best improvisors on earth. Forget about K. Jarret...... Jean-luc has no attitudes.....just a 200% concentration an MAKING MUSIC :-)
I love him and the last 30 years of this offerings !!!! I go see him when he comes around NYC metro I play over a few of his tracks too :-))) Great Track of soooo many great tracks !
Sure did! I was dissapointed when I saw him in Detroit and he didn't have the "recording" group. JLP used to tour w/ his recording group a lot of the time, but not usually 100% of the members, ...I used to like that when he kept them. My fave is the group from the Fables CD !! :D
WOWW WHAT A BIG GREAT FEELING TO INJOU THESE SOUND I INJOU THESE PEACE AND POWER AND MAGIC WHAR GREAT REALY MUCIC ACTORS WOOWWWWW WHAT A SOUND OF FULL MUSIC INSPIRATION S PETER
i go a long way back listening to jean-luc -ponty,the man is an absolute master of the violin!!!......check out "auroura",if you know that one you got some good players on that one as well !! oh keyboards too,how about that?
Not taking anything away from Thierry, but he's not doing anything "poly" in this...odd time, changing time, yes, ...Now..the beginning is an entire poly that the whole band is doing ....that's brilliant :)
I love playing to this song. I didn't think it was that difficult. It took me within an 1/2 hour to get the feel of this drum groove. if you want something more difficult. Go check out Trilok Gurtu. A lot of his stuff is just flipped around. he plays abnormal kick, snare and accents. Just saying.
He only recorded the album. Shame, I would have loved to see him do this. I like Thierry Arpino, but ...he doesnt' do this song very well. Not that I could do better, but ..it's just not that well executed.
I've been blessed to see him in concert 5 times in Boston and Chicago. Fantastic shows each and every time. I've been a fan since 1979.
Christopher Mobley
I saw him with Zappa, 5 times, mahavishnu, and with his own group, he is a musical prodigy..a master player, and a nice guy .
Could never stop listening to him,Pat Metheny both are viscous
I love this better than the album version, Ponty and the band kill it!!!
Seriously. Great forward thinking improvs.
Guy Nsangue Akwa kicks ass on bass man! oh yeah Ponty is the ultimative jazz virtuoso! what great band!
It's funny ( me being an African- American musician) but Jean luc Ponty really opened the door ( Tchkola album )for me to really search out African music like Anjilique Kidjo, Fela Kuti, Brice Wassy, Salief Keita, Les Go Dan Gna and many others.
Thanks for the recommendations I will check those artists out.

Jean Luc needs to tour the states more....
One of the most thoughtful and musically satisfying of soloists.
My dream concert would be to see John McLaughlin & Jean-Luc play a set together. I would pay anything to see that!
This is pure sweetness for musicians ready to step to the next frontier.
it's wonderful how he uses classical indian scales and gives them a new dimension.
Ladys and gentlemem could you please Welcome to Jean Luc ponty and his band!
Jean Luc Ponty - no one does it better!

GRANDE TALENTO

straordinario
Blue Mambo is the best number after this one. Love Kevin Eubanks' guitar playing on it.

i go a long way back listening to jean-luc -ponty,the man is an absolute master of the violin!!!......check out "auroura",if you know that one you got some good players on that one as well !! oh keyboards too,how about that?
A better ending would have been nice, but musically this is awesome!!!

I'm wondering why he never comes to Charlotte North Carolina?
Yes.... Beautiful women never woke me up either? hi you fun
idk maybe he figures? you're not into this limbo?
Time signatures ..hehe

Most of this is very mechanical, but what about the piano improv section? Certainly you didn't get that down in 30 minutes.
@@avjake I think he meant 30 years.
de que año es esto?
@fmatl2000 How was it? :P
what are you talking about? He has a lot of albums...
é muito viage...ó...

He only recorded the album. Shame, I would have loved to see him do this. I like Thierry Arpino, but ...he doesnt' do this song very well. Not that I could do better, but ..it's just not that well executed.
Yea, I saw his band in 1975 in Long beach Calif. needs to get away from rock and roll.
