2:08 Fun fact: In the original Japanese version, Knuckles said Sonic was just simply captured and Tails went missing. So what does this mean? The American dub added unnesassary drama for NOTHING
I've actually heard the opposite, that the script was originally written for America and translators ended up fixing it's issues. Not entirely sure which story is true, though.
This game is a mess the level design is bad you just hold the boost button, in the other 3 games the level design was amazing just like you said. The main reason why many people hate the boost is Forces.
Yes! I love how they use the boost in Sonic Generations, heck, sometimes i don't feel the necessity of using the Boost in the levels and they work pretty fine. I haven't played Sonic Forces tho...
This game is what the brainless people in the past called boost to win, theres actually little interaction in levels and you don’t need to keep on your toes
@@jjc4924 It most likely has to do with the fact that there was a separate team working on lost world and that they were some of the only people left at sonic team since some key members of the team left. Some even found to work for Nintendo to help work on super Mario Odyssey.
Sonic Team has nobody on it who cares about the franchise anymore. It's just a job for them. There isn't an ounce of passion. It's made that much more obvious when you put it next to Sonic Mania which was made by people who deeply love the series.
I wholeheartedly want to believe that Sonic Team made this game for some kid with the Make a Wish Foundation. This whole game seems like some child’s fan fiction.
Paige Arnold honestly, most of the games using “modern sonic” kinda feel like that. Like sonic and the black knight, sonic colors, sonic unleashed, that one sonic game where he’s in some weird time travel thing that has him meet classic sonic and they have to fight two eggmans (eggmen?), and that other one where he’s super mario galaxy-ing in a bad way. It seriously feels like they went on some fanfic website and chose the best sfw fic they could find. And yes, i left sonic boom out on purpose, because honestly, who’s actually likes that game, non-ironically.
Flamingoodness why just why are you out of your mind just appreciate segas hard work ok don’t be a doosh so stop hating man I wish there was nicer people so stop being stupid
Or.... Sega: We don't wanna make another Sonic 06 again!! Because, somehow, the Adventure play style was the cause of 06's downfall!! Sonic fans: ...? *(Side note: I'm not joking, that was the reason why Sonic Team abandoned the Adventure style in the first place)*
@@brolytriplethreat Sonic Team doesn't have the talent or the patience to develop something in Sonic games. Mario sequels usually evolve and improve on their predecessors. Sonic games throw ideas out the door for sequels and never revisit them again.
@@EdmacZ sonic forces was bad because 3 people had to design all levels by themselves. 1 of them had lost world experience The other 2 didnt have any experience If the levels are bad then the game is bad. Its not that sonic team is abd its just they choose the wrong people to make few things which are crucial to the game. There are many talented people in sonic team like generations was good and so was unleashed
Let's be fair here. Said fans have been making fangames for years. They have had the free time to examine, dissassemble, and mess with the engines of the classic games. Furthermore, they had an entire community's worth of help in documenting this stuff. In addition, they do not have as much worry of deadlines or executive meddling. And let me remind you that the fanbase has created it's own share of stinkers.
@@brolytriplethreat same with the boost formula which sega has been doing since 08 and yes there are alot of stinkers...like a lot but don't forget that sega owns the IP so it's not an excuse
The sheer irony is that, from what I've seen of recent Mario & Sonic Olympic games, Hiroshi Miyamoto is better at making Sonic games than he is at making Mario & Sonic Olympic games.
Super Sonic is DLC Have we forgotten that Tails could be playable character? Why is classic sonic here he literally has no purpose. The amount of rings you can get in one act is amazing. Why the hell does classic sonic play like that. Why the hell does modern sonic play like that. Playing as Shadow is DLC Final Boss is Sonic L- I mean sonic colors. Infinite's final fight is oddly similar to Silver's "Generations" fight. Infinite just up an disappears, no context. Mania has multiple save slots and forces doesn't. Guys I can do this all day.
Why the others are just as fast as sonic and have better abilities not doing but standing around like princess peach especially knuckles you have no reason to go dere at least at angel you succeeded at something but no let’s knuckles become an idiot because sonic x literally ruined his character 4kids or not it ruined him he got tricked like 3 times in the show when it happened only once in the series and fans (back then) got angry because they let knuckles become an idiot but now nobody cares because saga ruined his entire character
“If you don’t charge at the end of the metal sonic boss fight, he will just wait for you to get your footing so he can properly be defeated” well at least he has manners, he’s just being polite!
Not only that but they ALWAYS go out of their way shit on GOOD Sonic games. For example, the "Sonic Unleashed" cultists managed to turn "Sonic Colors/Generations" reputation into mud.
So apparently, in the original Japanese version, Sonic just got captured and didn’t get tortured (I prob spelled that wrong) and Tails went missing. They added drama for no reason. W h a t t h e a c t u a l h e c k
"Someone's gonna get pissed off at this video." You can conceivably say that about ANY TH-cam video, no matter how seemingly inoffensive. Actually, there's an audience that will be pissed off at a video precisely BECAUSE it's inoffensive.
+BigBrotherXellos Hell that's pretty much TheMetalBlade5's comment about his next response in a nutshell. And I swear if he's just bashing another TH-camr to piss them off AGAIN I'm gonna unsubscribe.
So what did we learn? Sega needs people with experience with how sonic works gameplay-wise. Hire another bunch of fan creators for all I care. If that worked with mania, it should work just fine in a future sonic title.
SEGA random guy #1: "Hey, noticed that Generations went good?" SEGA random guy #2: "Yup, so it seems." SEGA random guy #1: "Oh c'mon, I bet it was because Classic Sonic was there. How about we put him in the new Sonic thing we are making?" SEGA random guy #2: "...what? Oh, yeah, whatever." SEGA random guy #1: "Yesss!"
SEGA guy #1: Remember chaos from sonic adventure 2? SEGA guy #2:Yea. Why? SEGA guy #1: Let's put him in this game! SEGA guy #2: Sure, whatever. SEGA guy #1: But sonic doesn't fight him! SEGA guy #2: Sure, whatever.
"It's not fair comparing Forces to Mania" On the contrary, I think it's VERY fair to do that since Sonic Team themselves seem to be perfectly content with trying to compare Forces to Mania. It was their decision to have the two games share a plot, after all!
Same The fans create a 9.8/10 Game while the people who made The fast hedgehog didn't release a game that has potential the only thing this game shines is The OC Creater and the music. Classic Sonic just appeared in a game and his physics are not from generations. SEGA wants to add things the fans like instead of something new and for some reason likes green hill no emerald hill no angel island and that sonic unleashed first level I forgot so SEGA MAKE SOMETHING NEW!! Review Score: 4.9/10
According to the comics (from what I know) the reason the Wisps keep showing up is because they were so grateful towards Sonic for saving them that some Wisps decided to stay and help Sonic in his adventures
Cheezy Space Man Dude, I don’t even think they care what order some of the names are in at this point. They just like having a silly name for Arin’s fursona
And that's what being a Sonic fan can do to you... If we're talking about the Sonic games AFTER Colors and Generations, I mean. Or even games before Colors and Generations, like Secret Wildfire Rings, Sonic 06, and The Black Knight. But also, games after both Colors and Generations; Lost World, Sonic Boom: Rise Of Lyric, etc. The point is, don't wait 6 years to play slightly mediocre Sonic games, I think?
@@notlNSIGHTYeah, I bet that the fans probably COULD write a better story for the games, but probably not, I'm guessing they'd most likely give Sonic guns or some dumb shit like that, but I'm sure their writing couldn't be any worse than the entirety of Sonic 06 or Sonic Boom: Rise Of Lyric, or Sonic Forces, where they shoehorned Classic Sonic, but said he was from another dimension instead of being from the past? Which just sounds really stupid. As long as the fans don't put in beastiality, guns, unnecessary swearing, stupidly named characters, lame designs for stupid fan created characters, like most of Sonic Forces, or have their own dumb original character designs that wouldn't work in ANY game, don't try and rush production, don't take parts of their staff and put to work on some other stupid project at the same time, and know how to make a great soundtrack, then I'd be fine, oh, and also, not making a stupid story that makes no sense to anyone, don't kill Sonic, don't take or add in unnecessary things, don't take out things fans love, don't add or force things and unnecessary mechanics down our throats, and don't force stupid shit on people that we don't want, don't treat your audience like they're idiots, and respect your fucking audience, and don't reuse old mechanics from other games that didn't work, and no more Mario And Sonic at the Olympics or whatever that shit is, literally NOBODY ANYWHERE likes those games, fucking STOP making them, for the love of God! For fuck's sake! But, to be fair, I did love the Sonic movie.
The only way I would want that is if it was just Marble Madness, but with Sonic permanently stuck as a ball, like Kirby Tilt 'n' Tumble or other Kirby ball games.
They need to get the level designers of Sonic Generations and Unleashed back and the director of Sonic Generations back for the next Sonic game. They need to make a good 3D Sonic game because they have the talent to do it. Sonic Unleashed (minus werehog and medal collecting) and Sonic Generations had really good level design. Just leave Classic Sonic to Christian Whitehead and the mania team because they did 2D Sonic much better than dimps and Sonic Team and will have very creative and varied level design for new original stages in a potential Mania 2. Also for goodness sake don't make Tails constantly rely on Sonic to save him. He was more than capable of defeating Chaos. Also they should have Tails, Knuckles, Amy and Blaze playable. It shouldn't be that hard to have them added.
Diurno MX jesus christ, dude, take your 2d and shove it up your ass this game is mostly 2D, there is barely 3d in this game, and guess what, classic sonic is the worst part of it, the worst part of modern sonic is the damn 2d sections. so pls shut up with that BS
@Genius Stanio yes, no original content, no momentum like in the Genesis games, no insta-shield no radical shields, you can play only as Sonic and both episodes are short( 4 unoriginal zones each) YOU SHOULD PLAY SONIC MANIA
The reason the wisps are there is explained in the mobile sonic game called Sonic Runners which is no longer playable explains that the wisps liked Sonic's world so they decided to stay there
Not the first time a franchise has put important story details in supplementary material, but it's still stupid. Also, why the hell would they get rid of Sonic Runners?!
Oddly enough, Sonic Forces seems like a product created as a direct response to what fans said they like about previous games. Green Hill is iconic, so it’s back again. Fans liked Generations, so they add a 2D Sonic. Fans liked Colors, so they bring back aliens as power ups. The DLC lets you play as everyone’s favorite edgelord, Shadow, for the first time since 2009. OC’s are popular, so they add an OC creator. Even the rock music seems inspired by people’s apparent love for the early Adventure titles. The result is so muddied, and it’s a direct result of all the crap Sonic Team has been throwing at the wall for the past 15 years. I *really* want them to come out with a 3D game in this franchise that I can be proud of. I liked Generations, but the story was awful, and Classic Sonic’s physics were questionable. It is fun, but it’s a relatively low benchmark for new Sonic games to be compared to... especially considering it came out in 2011. A good Sonic title should be able to go so much further than just nostalgia, especially a decade after the series’ last decent release. I also apologetically love Unleashed on the Wii. Aside from the Werehog, there were a lot of things that I felt are worth defending- the orchestral music direction was beautiful, and shed the edgy and product-of-their-time rock of earlier titles; the art direction was inspired, and found a design for human characters that didn’t feel terrible next to anthropomorphic animals. The Wii version, in particular, avoided some of the weirder design decisions with the PS3/360 release- namely, Werehog levels were broken up into more manageable chunks due to the Wii’s hardware limitations, and the awkward hub towns were cut out. Unleashed also had the best story in a Sonic title to date. The opening cinematic sets high stakes for the rest of the game, and the story as a whole subverts some common Sonic tropes. Eggman *won.* The Emeralds, rather than being a McGuffin energy sources to chase, must be restored to bring balance to the world. Tails and Amy, though having small parts to play, have great character moments. And from a thematic level, the Werehog works as a constant reminder of the struggle between light and dark that is present throughout the game. I really wish that Sonic Team had stuck to the creative spirit they had established in Unleashed. Even though they found a gameplay formula that worked (i.e. Boost), everything since then has been focused on reinventing the wheel for the character, or looking back to the green pastures of the 90’s. Notably, Sonic’s never had a 3D subseries last more than 2 entries: Adventure, ‘06, Storybook, Boom... it’s a franchise that is fractured fundamentally over its identity. At this point, I wonder if Sonic Team even has enough qualified developers to make a good game. I also think Iizuka (the producer who’s been involved since 2009) is an idiot based on the interviews I’ve read with him, but maybe I’m just being harsh. The franchise needs stability. I was excited about Mania because that game brought Sonic back to what fundamentally worked about that character, but since Sega isn’t doing a sequel, I’m afraid this franchise is doomed to go back to the doldrums.
I completely agree. Sega knows what the fans want (somewhat),but they don't know how to give them what they want. Which is a big reason why Forces was a flop, it tried too hard to appeal to too many desires that the fans said that the wanted, and in the process, missed some most essential parts of a good game. Sega needs to stop using nostalgia as a marketing tool and try something new.
I agree on all counts except the music. I am of the opinion that aside from a few standouts, unleashed has the weakest soundtrack. And the previous songs are not edgy. Don't call them that.
has anyone noticed that the only Sonic-related things to come out after this was a comic reboot by IDW, a couple racing games, the 2020 Tokyo Olympics (Sad the real life version got canceled), and the movie. I think even Sega knows they messed up here and are just delaying a new game so they can figure out how to fix things.
*sigh* There was potential, but Sega really wanted to be safe and thought nostalgia might save the game. It really feels like they've given up on Sonic.
Adventure 3 isn't going to happen while Izuka is in charge. Also, Sonic's games have fluctuating quality because Izuka fires and hires people like they're toys for a spoiled child. Izuka is incompetent as a leader, and now relies on nostalgia to have a selling point. I understand why the game took so long to make as well, they were working with a new engine, and, as Ant said in the vid, there are only 3 people working on level design, which is a fucking recipe for disaster. But considering this game isn't too bad, Classic Sonic excluded, I'm pretty surprised that it is as it is. It's not bad, and there are highlights in the level design, however, short as hell. Which, all things considered, is understandable, considering they would have to make really huge levels for Modern Sonic, which would cost a lot of money for the team, money which Izuka won't allow. But considering all this, 3 newbies at Sonic making 30 stages in a game while working with a new engine isn't something that's unimpressive. From a critical standpoint, Sonic forces is pretty mediocre, however, as someone who's played the game, i personally enjoyed the game very much... Classic Sonic excluded, fuck that guy. Should just rename him to Sonic the sales crutch
Safe? Did you listen to the video? Sega hired some unskilled nobodys to make the level design for their game, and they knew!! Fuck Sega man! If they were to play it safe they would have delayed the game to finish it properly, perfect it, flesh out the story, and make it longer, and they would have hired non-incompetent designers to make the levels longer and better. Tell Takashi Izuka or whoever the fuck the game director was to go fuck himself
Thank god for critics like AntDude and Somecallmejohnny that aren't afraid to actually say the truths behind the mediocre designs of this game and point out the flaws while having very different (but still somewhat similar) opinions about this. This game doesn't so much anger me as Sonic Team angers me for their constant incompetence. It's obvious by now they do not want to do Sonic games anymore and are creatively bankrupt and still terribly managed. Iizuka needs to be fired, and SEGA needs to fucking stand by their convictions about trying to change the public image of Sonic for the public.
DiscordedHaru Exactly right! In my opinion the tone and character development was perfect in Unleashed. I wish they kept that tone on the series instead of reverting to a generic cheesy tone from Colors. Truly sad.
Trokon Hufnagel Jesus Chris that is absolutely awful what the hell is wrong with them no wonder sonic games HAVNT been in there greatest quality except for maybe mania holy crap
When I was a kid I was soooo original I had two OCs named Plus and Minus, they were twin cats and grew up under Tails in a world where Sonic had disappeared or something. But get this...their power was magnetism but only worked when they were together AND they also used "Emerl Armors" designed by Tails...sometimes...for some reason. Oh, man, I thought they were such cool character!
MeLMeL It's not. There's so many "Oh they're twins with the power of Magnetism" stereotypes. I think Teen Titans has two characters like that, and two Pokemon Plusle and Minun.
Matthew Morrison Yeah, lol. And I'm pretty sure those ocs were based on the latter since Ruby was my first Pokemon game, lol. The only thing I'm gonna give credit to little me was making Tails more of a mentor character, I still think that was a neat idea which is why I scrapped those two later on and adopted Tails as more of a protagonist...but since I do not write stories nor am I a Sonic fan "anymore", it has no use talking about it anyway, lol. Well, except remembering funny unoriginal idea I had as a kid, I guess XD
I was really disappointed by Infinite. They built him up like he was going to be a big deal, even at times hinting that he was a previously established Sonic character (I honestly believed he was a warped version of Tails from another dimension, seeing as they were making multiverses a factor). He was even voiced by Liam O'Brien for crying out loud! But no... he's some no-name mercenary who's pissed off because Shadow beat him up and insulted him... that's it... He wants to destroy everything because Shadow hurt his feelings... I'm sorry to steal a joke from Team Four Star here, but I couldn't help but think "But... that's really dumb... But he's so cool! But that's so dumb!" Congratulations Infinite, you just became Broly! Oh and the cherry on top: The "previously established character" thing is the Phantom Ruby... that's NOT a character Sega, that's a plot device! This game feels like they finished the "Do Not Steal" OC Creator then just gave up halfway through developing everything else. Like Sega said "Their OCs are canon now, they'll be satisfied with everything else." I don't think this game's as bad as say Sonic '06 or Sonic Boom, because at least it's PLAYABLE... but for me it was just a very mediocre Sonic game, which for what's meant to be an Anniversary Game is an insult.
I agree completely, for some reason they thought it was a good idea to have new level designers and the level designer of sonic lost world (another game that didn't know what it wanted to do) this was just a waste and being released near Sonic Mania and Mario odyssey didn't help either (Also love your videos can't wait for the piccolo jr arc, keep up the good work)
Yeah, but then again the game would lose a lot of those 'serious points' it was trying to get. Not that it holds onto those very well to start with anyway.
If this game was released next year and had more experienced level designers it would have improved a bit because level design in this game wasn't great
You know, I remember you saying you wanted Sonic Forces to be good in your Sonic Mania review, literally begging for it to be good so you wouldn’t have to complain about Sonic again. Those were better days to be honest.
Forces Devs: Rookie the Wolf Antdude: Flapper the Bird Gamechamp3000: Shang, the daughter of Sonic the Hedgehog and Fang the Sniper Alpharad: *Sanic with satanic eyes*
Also remember how Silver said that Tails just "Lost It" but then the cutscene that introduced Classic Sonic just shows Tails as the Normal Smart Fox he is.
"What if we let players create their own characters?" "Sounds great! Sonic fans love making their own fan characters! What else do you have?" "What if we make it play like Sonic Generations?" "Oh wow, that's one of our most popular 3D games in terms of gameplay. Perfect!" "But we'll make the levels short and mostly automated." "What?" "And the controls will suck, especially the 2D ones." "But Generations controlled great why would you..." "And we'll bring back classic Sonic." "What?! Why? Sonic Mania will cover classic Sonic a lot better already." "And we'll tie it into Sonic Mania by meddling in its development." "STOP!" "And the story will be complete ass and inconsistent with previous games." "Please no more." "The music is fire though." "Nice." I don't hate this game really but it's so disappointing compared to Generations. It's just crappy Generations.
I don't think Forces is a shitty game despite it's flaws nowadays, but I certainly did when the game came out. I was so pissed about the blatantly dishonest marketing. I was already pissed about "eVeN hErOes NeEd hElP" and then getting hit with classic sonic. Nowadays I just think the game is aggressively average and should just be forgotten. It isn't bad enough to even be a joke like 06, and it doesn't even have the high points to make up for it's lows like Heroes, CD, and Unleashed. It's a game that literally just exists. Even the soundtrack is fairly unmemorable except for the Avatar stages. I was already severely disappointed in the writing and overuse of nostalgia in past games, but blatant dishonesty in the marketing pretty much obliterated any trust I had left in SEGA. I just can't believe we shit on Nintendo for their copyright nonsense and allow SEGA to get away with false advertising.
The biggest flaw is the story and the Characterization of Sonic, the automation is bad but the story is just frustrating and seems like something that would come from the Sonic twitter account
@@broom2839 agreed. The tails design the lack of a good story and the power of the flamethrower are my only nitpicks. Its better than sonic generations 3ds.
You should look at the SA3 facebook fanpage. One of the admins I find annoying by themselves, but I think you'll get the most enjoyment out of the comments.
I just want another Adventure game with a chao garden included. The last games were all in 2D or had this Boost gameplay in 3D. I can't stand it anymore
Sonic Forces is a really skin-deep adventure. If you like the idea and try to play it exactly as intended, you won't have too much trouble aside from a few small complaints about poor level design. But if you're sceptical and look even the tiniest bit deeper, it's obvious that the devs Did Not Plan For That. Chaining attacks on enemies can feel cool, but if you stop for a moment it's clear that they're literally defenseless and that feels much less so. Watching your character be a badass can be cool, but if you didn't take the character creation seriously, you'll never take the character seriously either. Hitting QTEs makes the cutscenes feel cool, but if you fail them to see what happens (because how else would you fail them), you realise that it really doesn't matter. Jumping between platforms might feel cool, but if you fall and a spring bounces you back up, that just renders it meaningless. The battle cutscenes are cool, but only if you don't pay attention to the background and realise that most of the characters are identical and you're just saving a bunch of emotionless clones. It's cool to see all these returning characters, but only if you don't notice that they have literally no bearing on the plot and you'll never see them again. Shadow's cool, but only if you ignore that he's just Sonic. It's just the videogame equivalent of a bad kids' picture book: a lot of semi-appealing fluff slapped haphazardly onto a soulless background.
Thank you for saying that about Shadow. I have to disagree about him being cool, but I digress... He's just an edgy recolor of Super Sonic that opened the floodgates of stupid fan characters, which are one of the things that gave the Sonic fandom such an awful reputation, and in case anyone tries saying he is a good character because his backstory is cool or something... no, it isn't. It isn't even consistent between games. So no, I don't buy it. To his credit, he's not nearly as bad as a character as Silver.... I still don't get why they didn't let him die with 06. He has one of the worst character designs of anything I've ever seen, and he's annoying. Why he is in Forces but Blaze isn't, I'll never understand.
Honestly, this is what I think should happen... -Better Physics -No more unnecessary nostalgia in Modern Sonic games (Green Hill, Classic Sonic, etc) -Separate Classic Sonic Games -I like how they are having spin-offs like the Sonic Racing Game that we got a teaser on -Boosting should be like Generations, Colors, and Unleased ( I miss drifting D: ) -Better writing -Better Plot ( Not that this one's bad ) - I like the decrease of glitches - This is just a preference and I know it will never happen, and Roger Craig Smith is a good voice actor, but I prefer Jason Griffith - A more serious Sonic ( like in Unleased and Adventure )like there will be less cheesy and corny jokes. Especially when the plot is serious But hey, I'm just a fan
I personally think the plot is very bad. SEGA was trying to mke the OC seem like an underdog who rises to the occasion in the cutscenes but in the actual game he destroys entire armies without a sweat.
Exactly, there's no problems with boosting. I love it! And drifting... that is the cherry on top. You have this amazing sense of speed and drifting just makes it more fun.
Omg, the lyrics of that one shadow the hedgehog song “One step forward, two steps back” Better story idea(one step forward) Bad gameplay and classic sonic (two step back)
I don’t understand why I hear so many people treating Sonic Unleashed as if it were the first game to use the boost gameplay style. Yes, it was the first to use it on a console and in 3D, but before Unleashed, there was Sonic Rush and Rush Adventure on the DS, both of which are great games that focus heavily on boost-based gameplay.
*Sonic Mania was the best 2D Sonic Game *Sonic Forces had 3 new designers make every level BY THEMSELVES, One has Lost World experience, the other two having NO EXPERIENCE AT ALL
That’s not a good defense. Just because a game was made by a few people doesn’t mean you can use that to defend it. Undertale was programmed and designed by a single person. Same can be said for cave story, and the binding of isaac started out as a flash game made by a couple of friends. Cuphead was made by two guys, and the graphics and music were helped by various family members. Of course none of these games are meant to be as ambitious as a sonic game, but they all have wonderful experiences to give, and are geniusely designed by beginners. Also, the fact that it was made by newbies is horrible, because not only did sega and sonic team deliberately chose to do this, but they also lied to us. They said it was from the creators of sonic generations and colors, but that’s a lie since two of them are newbies and the other only ever worked on lost world. I love sonic. I love the chaos emeralds, i love the 2d games, adventure games, boost games, I love the characters like tails knuckles, Amy, cream and cheese, hell even big the cat. I love sonic so much and I will never forget the feelings I had when I first played sonic heroes as a kid, playing sonic adventure with my sister and just running around station square and sometimes trying to see if I can catch cream as she flies above the city, the amount of hours my brother and I spend playing sonic adventure 2’s multiplayer, but I don’t know if I can trust sonic team anymore. They keep pumping out garbage and they know what the fans want, but choose to do the opposite on purpose.
Flamingoodness this is why not many people like this game, it’s so edgy it’s Cringeworthy, so many plot holes, and to be honest, it does kinda feel lazy as a sonic game, the end of Level Grading Scenes, Instead Of Having the Level in the Background, it was just a Screen of Blankness with some Patterns, The Classic Sonic Areas are SUPER CLUNKY, There Are Mostly Text Box Cutsceens, the stages are short and too much of the same, and the levels don’t really have that much feel of the, Trial and Error of some Levels are Gone in some levels, plus Some things are just Auto Play, This Sonic Game to Be honest was A lazy way to Churn our another Game, Heck even the Avatar Helped with that, it was just something to Slap on the Box, it’s Lazy and A Bad Sonic Game to Be completely honest in my Opinion.
@@notlNSIGHT Three inexperienced guys making lengthy in deph levels for extremely fast characters, all of them having different gameplay styles, in a single year is a bit different. It doesn't excuse the shit level design, but being hard on the inexperienced level designers is like slapping the fry cook in the face when he doesn't throw out 20 perfect orders in five minutes by himself after he literally just got promoted from JANITOR and has no cooking experience. The fault is entirely on the higher ups for choosing people that had no place designing levels for the game and making them do it all with no time whatsoever. It doesn't help that they lied and said the game was made by the same people behind Colors and Generations.
I had the experience playing it and I saw these kind of reviews coming, I kinda enjoyed this game specially the avatar. So Antdude, I respect your opinion
Why I hate sonic forces 1: The Boost meter isn't long enough like generations. 2: classic sonic isn't fast like in generations. 3: No Chaos Fight. 4: Infinite (sonic and oc), metal sonic, and death egg robot (phase 3) is the same thing.
lol it's absolutely hilarious to me that this came out two weeks after one of the best platformers of all time. Really shows the discrepancy between Mario/Nintendo and Sonic/Sega.
well shadow has his own levels that why it works, but here since you only play in sonic stages outside of his 2 stages, then it becomes boring , since his own stages don't even had different asthetics or mechanics
Here’s what I have to say about shadow. When I look at his concept and how he was handled in SA2, you can see some actual passion. The writer and designer originally wanted his design to be a literal dark side of sonic, but made the choice to reskin super sonic, have a story that honestly doesn’t match the intention of the writer of SA2, and tried to cash in on 90’s angst. A genius move....executed poorly. now here’s the hilarious piece of evidence. In the original Dreamcast version, and in an early version of the GameCube Opening, Shadow ACTUALLY SMILES! Seriously if they kept to that formula, he would’ve been snarky, endearing, and much better developed. In the Japanese Dub/Sub Shadow even says to Sonic in the Final Battle: “sonic I get it now! The True Ultimate Life Form!...IT’S YOU!” There’s a moment at the very end where Sonic contemplates this, and there are 2 moments before the final battle where they’re both panting and giving “knowing stares” towards each other with knuckles realizing the same thing. These moments where they don’t speak, stare towards each other, and begin the fight knowing their true intentions, sprinkled with that line of being a true ultimate life form with Sonic ending the scene with “Sayonara....Shadow the Hedgehog...” not to mention how the game itself orchestrated several events where both had similar but not exactly the same events as each other is truly telling. After all of this however, there is a one problem with him that I will address...Reskin of Super Sonic, derived from something that was never addressed, and haphazardly reflected on in his own game. I mean alien? Is Sega beneath clones? Or maybe he was created by Gerald Robotnik, and the true inspiration was due to the imagery of Sonic from the Mystic Cave Mural in Sonic 3 & Knuckles. We could’ve had a Sonic Adventure 3 where they could’ve tied FREAKING Knuckles into the mix while also keeping the rivalry between Sonic, Shadow, and Knuckles. With how shadow was treated poorly in some future games (not all), and the fact that the modern era of sonic started in Sonic Adventure, then truly cemented in Sonic Colors and Sonic Unleashed, I doubt we’re ever going to get something as good as this shit ever again, unless either the main developers for Sonic Forces get their shit together, the team for Sonic Mania and ANYONE ELSE handles the rest of the games going forward, or Sega rehires the writer for SA2, gets some actual competent people to handle the games going forward, or train the newbies to have a better sense of the actual series of games. It’s highly unlikely that it’ll get better but I hold out 1% faith that maybe I’ll be proven so wrong that I’ll have faith in Sega again, and then another 1% faith that will screw it up the next game. Why did I bring up Shadow? Simple: The one redeeming quality of Sonic Forces in my opinion was the shadow episode. I have watched over 5 different people with different views play the game, and I am beyond disappointed in its execution. Not as a modern sonic game, but as a sonic game in general. Forget sonic generations and sonic mania. If you wanna go all the way back to Sonic 06 and Sonic Colors, you’ll find that they were at least handled better than this game. are they objectively good? Colors yes but 06 I have some distain for. Wanna know something funny? When I first saw Sonic 06, I wanted to know how they would handle Silver and Sonic, and Team Dark lol. What did I get? I mean shadow was awesome, Sonic was in some regard, Silver was an interesting concept handled poorly. Come to think about it, you have a time traveling game and NOT include the time travel boxes from Sonic CD?! What the hell man that would’ve been awesome! Plus if you want something that I think was the best thing about Shadow in that game? Mephiles: “it’s useless. Why do you still persevere when youll only be betrayed by everyone?!” Shadow: “because no matter if the world tries to betray me *detaches rings on gloves* I WILL FIGHT LIKE I ALWAYS HAVE!” *proceeds to destroy an entire army of Mephiles Clones.* Tell me with a straight face that with a game as bad as Sonic 06, that scene wasn’t a “Diamond in the Rough?” And like I said before I was more interested in how they would handle Sonic, because I was hoping for his anniversary they would treat it with care. But unlike Sonic Forces there seemed to be more passion for the game than they could handle.
No kidding, being a fan of Colours & Generations, Sonic Forces was on my list of games to get for Christmas... and then I saw the reviews. ;-; How can a game 4 years in development feel so uhm, rushed? There's no excuse... thanks AntDude for saying how it is!
Fella Teh God 06 I don't see why they didn't delay the game. Botw was supposed to come out in 2015 but they delayed it to 2017 when they were pretty confident. While the story and dungeons weren't the best everything else was pretty amazing. If they were working on an engine they should have told us and delayed the game.
Shigeru Miyamoto said it best years ago "A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad." So yeah, if Sega would just be a little more open minded and not only see the big bucks, they could do an amazing Sonic game.. or let the fans handle the series, I mean even Generations had fan influence because of the levels we got in that game.. and Mania is a prime example on how fans see Sonic, and we even got the freaking mod community for Generations, so a 3D Sonic game by fans for fans wouldn't be a problem either.
Daniel's not kidding, I heard from somewhere that the Avatar was gonna take center stage instead of Sonic, but both Sega of America and Europe stepped in and said "no no, don't do that." I think they were also the ones responsible for Classic Sonic's forced inclusion. Take this with a grain of salt, though. I've only seen someone say this one time, and have not seen this info since then.
I wanted to like this game so bad. It looked like it was going to have Adventure tier storytelling, which is a negative for some but a plus for me, since that's what made me obsessed with Sonic in the first place. But even the story was lame as heck, and then everything you said about the gameplay is true as well. I just don't understand how this could have happened after colors and generations and heck even lost world. They've done this before why is it so hard for them to make a game about their mascot good?
2:08
Fun fact: In the original Japanese version, Knuckles said Sonic was just simply captured and Tails went missing. So what does this mean? The American dub added unnesassary drama for NOTHING
I've actually heard the opposite, that the script was originally written for America and translators ended up fixing it's issues. Not entirely sure which story is true, though.
LittleFieryOne go with the Japanese script
So they didn't give enough of a shit to fix the American script to match the Japanese one? Wow..
That explains a lot.
In that case, if I ever play Sonic Forces, I'm going to take the stuff about Sonic being tortured with a grain of salt.

+HonoredGamer Good to see you again! :D
Don't call them that.
imagine being so deeply obsessed with this series that you felt the need to write an essay in a TH-cam comment section

*sigh* There was potential, but Sega really wanted to be safe and thought nostalgia might save the game. It really feels like they've given up on Sonic.
I want adventure 3 so badly it physically hurts :(
Adventure 3 isn't going to happen while Izuka is in charge.
Should just rename him to Sonic the sales crutch
burgerkingJ I think you meant nostalgia and OC pandering.
Tell Takashi Izuka or whoever the fuck the game director was to go fuck himself
burgerkingJ l
Thank god for critics like AntDude and Somecallmejohnny that aren't afraid to actually say the truths behind the mediocre designs of this game and point out the flaws while having very different (but still somewhat similar) opinions about this.
This game doesn't so much anger me as Sonic Team angers me for their constant incompetence. It's obvious by now they do not want to do Sonic games anymore and are creatively bankrupt and still terribly managed. Iizuka needs to be fired, and SEGA needs to fucking stand by their convictions about trying to change the public image of Sonic for the public.

Sonic: Fan-Fiction Edition
Oh god...
Effectively, yes.
W O O F
Oh god... not Sonamy.
Pokemon?
I mean it's original.
MeLMeL It's not. There's so many "Oh they're twins with the power of Magnetism" stereotypes. I think Teen Titans has two characters like that, and two Pokemon Plusle and Minun.
Matthew Morrison
Yeah, lol.
Mr. Universe
ikr?!
I'm surprised that Antdude didn't name his character Yeth.
I agree completely, for some reason they thought it was a good idea to have new level designers and the level designer of sonic lost world (another game that didn't know what it wanted to do) this was just a waste and being released near Sonic Mania and Mario odyssey didn't help either
(Also love your videos can't wait for the piccolo jr arc, keep up the good work)
Does that mean Infinite is the devil?
4 years of wasted time to push a nostalgia bait title.
It probably was so sonic fans could relate to him
He weak af
It would be funny if the "torture" was just actually explained to be Eggman coming to Sonic's cell to gloat and doing victory dances at him.
Yeah, but then again the game would lose a lot of those 'serious points' it was trying to get. Not that it holds onto those very well to start with anyway.
@@superlombax1561 But it would explain why Sonic was more exasperated than vengeful.

If this game was released next year and had more experienced level designers it would have improved a bit because level design in this game wasn't great

"But we'll make the levels short and mostly automated."
"What?"
"And the controls will suck, especially the 2D ones."

I don't hate this game really but it's so disappointing compared to Generations.
The music isn't horrible, but most of it feels below the par of the other sonic game's soundtracks.
Heavylicious The sound mixing is horrible the music itself is hit or miss but people have made better remixes of Forces music on youtube
@@broom2839 agreed. The tails design the lack of a good story and the power of the flamethrower are my only nitpicks.

Sam thegamer It's better to feel bad for Sega than stupid asshats like Josh Thomas.
Tommy Deonauth's Archives Who?
Just make all their games 2D and starring classic sonic, problem solved
Even if they did return to the classic 2D people would still find something to complain about dude
Returning characters? Liiike non- existant chaos, and xavoc? Why didn't they bring back fang, bean and bark or honey the cat?!
Dunn Kids Because that would require actual effort to convert them into decent models.
Jam Usagi take shot everytime he says cool
Why he is in Forces but Blaze isn't, I'll never understand.
huntercrunch Cause they retconned Silver and Blaze relation with each other, with Blaze being back as a princess from the Sol Dimension.

U1GX WTF😂
rainopaino lel
U1GX Emerald Hill from Sonic 1?
Some Bad Batter oh God
Honestly, this is what I think should happen...
-Better Physics
-No more unnecessary nostalgia in Modern Sonic games (Green Hill, Classic Sonic, etc)
-Separate Classic Sonic Games
-I like how they are having spin-offs like the Sonic Racing Game that we got a teaser on
-Boosting should be like Generations, Colors, and Unleased ( I miss drifting D: )
-Better writing
-Better Plot ( Not that this one's bad )
- I like the decrease of glitches
- This is just a preference and I know it will never happen, and Roger Craig Smith is a good voice actor, but I prefer Jason Griffith
- A more serious Sonic ( like in Unleased and Adventure )like there will be less cheesy and corny jokes. Especially when the plot is serious
But hey, I'm just a fan
tbh roger craig smith feels happier with his job to me rather than just doing it for money, but hey, that's just an opinion. A youtube opinion.
I personally think the plot is very bad. SEGA was trying to mke the OC seem like an underdog who rises to the occasion in the cutscenes but in the actual game he destroys entire armies without a sweat.
I agree with all of this. I think Sonic making quipps mid fight or mid level would be ok.
And you know what they say! Sega never listens to their fans.
Exactly, there's no problems with boosting. I love it! And drifting... that is the cherry on top. You have this amazing sense of speed and drifting just makes it more fun.
I see that All Might figure back there, Ant. Don't think you can hide your power level on this corner of the internet!

Omg, the lyrics of that one shadow the hedgehog song

Better story idea(one step forward)
Bad gameplay and classic sonic (two step back)
One step forward then Michael Jackson back
I don’t understand why I hear so many people treating Sonic Unleashed as if it were the first game to use the boost gameplay style. Yes, it was the first to use it on a console and in 3D, but before Unleashed, there was Sonic Rush and Rush Adventure on the DS, both of which are great games that focus heavily on boost-based gameplay.
jruler93 Your right but if we’re being 100% accurate The Boost Formula has its earliest roots in Sonic Advance 2
@@Marabo77 people mostly refer to console sonic games, the handheld ones dont get that much attention
Probably because nowadays Sonic fans are more concerned with the 3D home console games than handhelds.
slowly takes off odyssey hat. "its not time to do the odyssey anymore "
*Sonic Mania was the best 2D Sonic Game
*Sonic Forces had 3 new designers make every level BY THEMSELVES, One has Lost World experience, the other two having NO EXPERIENCE AT ALL
Oooohhhh, Thaaaat Explaaaiiinssss itttrr
AND WELL GUESS WHAT! THE TEAM THAT MADE SONIC FORCES HAS DISBANDED! POGGGGGG!

Hasn't Shadow always been basically a Sonic skin though?
Well he has skates and youses guns in one game 🎮
Cryo The otter in 06 and his own game he could do chaos Spears and blasts etc. In this game hes definitely just a skin though
Blaze463 in Sonic adventure 2 and heroes he judt was a re skin
Gabrielplays_br9889 him and sonic didn't have the same moves in those games
well shadow has his own levels that why it works, but here since you only play in sonic stages outside of his 2 stages, then it becomes boring , since his own stages don't even had different asthetics or mechanics

How can a game 4 years in development feel so uhm, rushed? There's no excuse... thanks AntDude for saying how it is!
When they start to make good sonic games the have to make shit ones after
Chimera if only they used the original engine... It would save time, and allow them to work on the game longer. I don't see why they didn't do it.

Why doesn’t Ian Flynn write for the sonic game because he can write a better story than Sonic Team.
