That seems pretty cool considering he titled the track "Soothsayer" as that is a type of person who can predict the future meaning to him that his Aunt was the soothsayer who predicted his life as a guitarist.
He wrote this masterpiece for his sick aunt at the time, and sail on soothsayer after she passed away, she must have been an incredible part of his life and incredible person to have something so beautiful written for her. In my opinion this epitomizes what music should be, a true look inside yourself and what you feel, buckethead is one of the few guitarist that you can indeed peer into his soul. Amazing.

I just discovered Buckethead a couple of weeks ago and I can’t get enough of his skills. It’s amazing to watch. We are watching someone who has clearly put in tens of thousands of hours with his guitar. He knows the guitar better than the guitar knows itself.
My first time listening too he is very good I've listened to lots of guitarists since the sixties this guy ranks quite high even though I'm not a lover of shredding
I feel u, haven’t touched mine for a couple days, and this vid isn’t helpful at all haha. But I won’t be disappointed if I quit playing u know? I feel like, my experience with playing guitar taught me that guitarists are the most talented people in the world, any good ones and it made appreciate music and musicians even more because if u never tried to play guitar u wouldn’t know how hard and painful it is. This comment was most likely a joke but for the people who ask why this might give u an answer and for those who feel like me hope this’ll make u feel more okay about quitting even though u shouldn’t.
It takes one hell of a "presence" as a guitarist to be able to hold your own on stage with nothing more than a drummer...and still rock a crowd and get the wrapped in the moment. Its often said that geniuses make the daunting look effortless....
I just turned 60 and discovered Buckethead bout a year ago.....recently saw him live at the Wilbur theatre in Boston. Absolutely outstanding!! Go see him you will not be disappointed!!
Better late than never right? Been a fan for 'bout 15 years or so. Have you listened to the album population override? It's great and is pretty different from most of his work.
This is one of the most beautiful tribute songs I ever had the privelege to repeat of so many times. This artist plays with his heart and is so talented and introspective. Thank you for giving us a glimpse of your love of family.
There a lot of amazing guitarists that are very technically advanced but few guitarists master composition. Buckethead is able to compose at a whole another level. I have huge respect for him on his composition skills, his memorable melodies, great usage of advanced techniques, and just playing for the music.
i think that is why buckethead wears the mas. it causes himself to look emotionless and he just lets his guitar speak for him and fills the gig with the emotion and awesome ability he has with his instrument.
Pooter He grew up in a farm, so he is an animal lover. He disagrees with how KFC treated the chickens in the early years and wore it as a protest. I'm not sure if KFC treats animals more humanely now. But I remember at one point he was sponsored by them because wearing that bucket is like a walking advertisement. After the contract ended, he wore a plain white bucket which you can see in a lot of his videos too. Then suddenly he reverted back to KFC again, not sure why he wears it. Maybe KFC is paying again.
As someone who's not really a fan of super technical playing, Buckethead is definitely an exception and a perfect example of combining technicality with emotion. I will never get why people hear his playing and not hear any emotion behind it. Like wtf? He made so many songs for his own family members ofc he's putting a crazy amount of emotion despite how technical is playing also is.
I think the mask is not just to avoid the fame curse but also to let you focus on the music and not the personality. I can't believe I'm just finding this amazing artist in my 71st year, especially since he's been working his magic for over 30 years. The first two rock concerts I ever saw (age 17) were Cream and the Jimi Hendrix Experience in 1968. I remember Jimi introducing Foxy Lady, saying "This is where we were a million years ago, but I know this is what you want to hear". Electric Ladyland had just come out and he was trying to move forward musically, but the fans wanted the hits. I've seen some of the greats. Saw Santana 6 or 7 times and he always played with great fire and emotion, and like Buckethead can heal you if you open up your mind and heart. Al DiMeola seems to be almost forgotten, but is among the best I've seen live. Saw Zappa with Beefheart in the 70s and he is one of the best as far as creativity and virtuosity. Saw Dweezil 3 times in the 20 teens and he is doing his dad's music proud. David Lindley, when he played with Jackson Browne, is one of my favorites. Saw them 3 times. Saw Stanley Jordan twice before the pandemic. He is amazing both technically and emotionally. Saw Jaco Pastorious with Joni Mitchell. He revolutionized the bass and to me was one of the best guitarists ever, even though it was called a bass. Like many of the artists mentioned, Buckethead is in a class all by himself and should not be compared to anyone. Bless Les Paul for his innovations that brought us the electric guitar as we know it today, allowing artists like Buckethead to give us such beautiful and passionate music. This man is sharing the depths of his heart and soul and it doesn't matter even a little bit that we don't see his face. Maybe he is crying the whole time and doesn't want us to see that. Sometimes I feel that he is playing a Requiem for Humanity.
I'd only compare in the loosest sense. "I'd compare Buckethead's level of talent to Jimi Hendrix's", if someone asked me how good that guy was when I introduce him to others. If people don't have a frame of reference, they won't get it sadly.
I've listened to my share of guitarists. Buckethead is in league of his own..... The feelings that he evokes with his playing can't be replicated by anyone else

Thomas Grey first of all you are really overreacting. I’m not repulsed so chill. I also really loved this solo. I’m just saying his opinion is not fact, which is a fact.
@Thomas Grey don't get so defensive for someone you don't know and try to understand that music is the opinion of the soul. so everything from the personality of the musician to the music they play is up to you to decide. I think Kendrick Lamar is a good example of what music is. I won't say it's a fact because it is my opinion.
@Thomas Grey He's not very good man. Decent rock guitarist, but dull music and gigs playing along to a backing track - of course the tickets are cheap, he's not paying a band.

Its often said that geniuses make the daunting look effortless....
eNosArmory don't forget the bass ;)
The drums and bass is a backing track. He's on stage by himself. And the drums are produced by a drum program.

I never thought about that, And that is so true.
Uh... no? He has stage fright.

Over 30 years? I've listened to rock most of my life and only now I've heard of him! Awesome musician!

@Thomas Grey This dude's example of a better musician than Buckethead is Kendrick Lamar... I'm dead 😂
@Thomas Grey He's not very good man. Decent rock guitarist, but dull music and gigs playing along to a backing track - of course the tickets are cheap, he's not paying a band.
