Coolest 2-second lick and not in any other Soothsayer version I've heard. First time, years ago, I was just listening without watching while walking, and I stopped dead in my tracks saying out loud "What wasTHAT!?", then replayed it over and over ...
I get the most HORRIBLE stage fright man. I can play guitar pretty well, definitely well enough to perform, and I’ve performed in front of about 5 thousand people before. But I’d get so nervous, that I couldn’t look at the audience AT ALL without completely forgetting what I was doing and then my hands would start to shake lol. It was humiliating. But someone gave me some amazing advice, and said to wear sunglasses while I play to conceal my eyes. I know it’s just a psychological trick, but wow does it work! So since I’ve learned that, I’ve always wondered if masked musicians wore the masks as a gimmick/stage persona, or if they did it to overcome anxiety from thousands of people expecting you to entertain them without any mistakes lol. Good god I love playing music but I hate that part for some reason 🤷🏻♂️. Don’t know why your comment made me feel compelled to share all this with ya, 😆. But anyway, stay safe out there Robert and keep on listening to great music! I post videos just for fun on occasion, if you’d ever like to check out my playing and make fun of it lol. I will say though, in my defense, that I broke my back in 3 places and can still walk just fine for the most part, but I’ve got some nasty nerve damage. Unfortunately, it really affects my picking hand (right hand). I’m slowly overcoming it though, and learning how to just roll with it lol. Ahhh I’ll shut up now. Have a good one man!
@@musicman0423 I totally empathise, man!! I hope your back is feeling better! Back in Uni, in my 20's, I felt like I had a lot more confidence--and there were a couple times where I actually experienced a kind of, "dissociation performing," feeling like I was free of fears and stuff, and I watched my hands just...flowing?... It was quite a great feeling, though since those one or two times that's occurred, I've never really been to reconnect with that musically-altered-state again. I've since felt horrid performance and recording anxieties, and YES!, my hands shake horribly and frustratingly, though sometimes I seemingly managed through it, my, "perfectionism" has held me back. I try to breathe more: breathing out seems to help most while I focus during difficult passages. I also find that moving my fretting arm a bit, assists me in remembering to breathe and lessen shoulder tension.
@@musicman0423 - it's true! SOO many artists wear shades onstage - they don't all have sensitive eyes! MM - I'm fairly sure you're are on the younger side - me? not so much, but, your focus on "perfect execution" when performing for an audience really rang an old and distant bell, so in addition to the shades, I would suggest practicing SLOWING DOWN every part of every song in your set - rhythm chord work, fills, every solo NOTE BY NOTE - really EXAGGERATE every single part. Of course, you play up to tempo at rehearsal. Here's the key: Your Brain WILL ABSOLUTELY KNOW how many times you have focused on EVERY SINGLE NOTE you are about to perform - you have "blueprinted" in your Brain. Your fingers have almost infallible muscle memory - confident in Brain, let the fingers fly - a person can even play a piece completely "correctly", but if the execution is SO tense or timid THE EARS WILL.HEAR IT ESPECIALLY WITH THE GUITAR! In this sense, it is better to play "sloppily" with a sassy attitude than to play all the right notes and sound constricted, tight or unsure of what you are playing. THAT'S WHAT PEOPLE RESPOND TO ! Find your personal onstage 'flourish' , meaning a PHYSICAL MOVEMENT THAT IS NATURAL TO YOU, and DO IT WHEN YOU PLAY! Your now stone-confident playing will allow you to SWAGGER, and the EYES WILL SEE THAT AND THE EARS WILL HEAR THAT!!! ...the difference between wanting and being is doing...
That's the key to playing an instrument like the guitar or piano....using the absolute least amount of effort possible. Holding the pick lightly and keeping your fingers as close to the strings on both hands as possible. I actually learned that while playing guitar hero with my brother who is a concert pianist (he could play Rachmaninoff at 14 years old). He could beat every song on expert, and after playing awhile I could beat about a quarter of them on expert, but my hands would get so tired and during fast parts I absolutely mashed the buttons and would lose it and couldn't recover most of the time. My brother pointed out that I needed to be calm while playing and try to hit the keys without making any noise. That's how he played....silently, and fast as fuck. Later on I took up the actual guitar, and the same sentiment transfers over very well. Strumming practice, and low string height, and a more rounded neck (PRS rosewood is my favorite)make all the difference in my playing
I love this version. Smooth and says so much without a single lyric uttered. Between him and Satch, very few others can play with so much passion and feeling. Id love to see him on the G3 tour. They had Petrucci last and to me, BH is way more gifted than he will ever be.
Thanks Stephen for the great upload. This is my favorite Soothsayer version to date! Buckethead just seems to get better and better...an age/experience thing I guess...

I've listened to alot of versions of this song, including at least one live performance, and this by far musically was one of, if not The, best I've put my ears on, thank you for capturing this.
Speedy guitarists were a dime a dozen in the 80's which Buckethead seems to be a child of, but only a few can make a guitar sing and cry like he does. He's in elite company Imho.
Thank you. That man has the it factor. Always loved this guy. He is just not what I'm use to. Can't get pass the bucket on his head. Can't take him serious not even after watching him. But what do i know im just a peasant that left this comment. LEGENDARY PLAYER.👍🙏
I dont see any people commenting about how this version is played with alot more focus on melody over the soloing & shredding heard in other versions on the web ,this is by far the most melodic version ive heard ,the version with millions of hits titled " the most emotional version " to me lacks emotion because bucket shreds way to much to the point it becomes flailing ,please dont attack me as a hater because i love me some Buckethead but there is such a thing as listener fatigue which is created by emphasizing speed over melody ,if you listen to some of Frank Zappas solos that reach into the 10 minute mark such as the solos on the Drowning Witch album ,or his live versions of Black Napkins, youll hear what im talking about with melody or melody forsaken for shredding .
Totally agree. We musicians have bad days btw, that "the most emotional version" probably wasn't a good day for Buckethead. That feeling when you empty inside and your heart is not flaming but still you are standing there and people wants to hear you. Its very rare to lost a feel, actually you have some kind of sense anyway, but there is a days when you feel like a river of emotions flow through you...and that days means that you will have brilliant perfomance. Kind of :)
What I like is when a musician can express feeling. When an I can empathize with what the instrument is Is expressing. You don't have to be the fastest or the best but to leave the listener with emotions and a heartfelt moment is the best! Thank you you fing rock!!!!
2024 I'm here and you?❤

Carlos was my guitar hero, then this guy buckethead comes around, I was born in 1960, so I grew up with the most iconic bands, we didn't know at the time, kicked my ass in best way possible, but I am taken aback by this incredible talent.
I don't even have the words to describe this, I watch it over and over for years and I'm no less amazed each time. What planet is this man from...
Seen this guy three times, he is awesome, and yes this IS the Best version!
Thanks a lot for uploading this vidéo! Buckethead plays every note with perfection and so much feeling. He’s a genius!
Thank you very much for your music Buckethead!!!
You made my day!
the floss is strong with this one - this BH being is not of this world, but from another dimension & a separate reality - many thanks for the upload & xtra effort, & cheers from the Delta
The 125 dislikes all came from people who were pissed off because they had to stay home with a severe case of diarrhea on a Friday night.
2:18 Liick is a drug...please hold me!!! what an improv....awesome version, thanks Ste...great vid!!!
That is exactly the lick that stood out for me in a sublime version of a sublime instrumental song.
Coolest 2-second lick and not in any other Soothsayer version I've heard. First time, years ago, I was just listening without watching while walking, and I stopped dead in my tracks saying out loud "What wasTHAT!?", then replayed it over and over ...
I know I'm late to the game but this guy is fantastic. Stevie Ray and other greats would be proud. 😎🇺🇸
Oh me too. I never gave him a chance. But now starting with this video, it's time.
I heard of buckethead back in the day but never listened or seen him...I'm blown away at this performance! thank you for the upload!
Got to be there for this. So cool because my favorite guitarist in my hometown!! Much ❤ to Buckethead
I simply laugh and smile when I hear this. It’s amazing how effortless he makes it look. Yet he’s probably so intense under the mask.

I totally empathise, man!!
MM - I'm fairly sure you're are on the younger side - me? not so much, but, your focus on "perfect execution" when performing for an audience really rang an old and distant bell, so in addition to the shades, I would suggest practicing SLOWING DOWN every part of every song in your set - rhythm chord work, fills, every solo NOTE BY NOTE - really EXAGGERATE
every single part.
@@musicman0423 same for me man! except I where a cap lol
First time I've had a song stuck in my head and I'm not annoyed by it. Masterful
I always play buckethead when I want my husband to come smoke some greens with me... this is how I get him out of his workshop.... it does the job. 😄
Excellent version ...truly amazing ...extra riffs he adds effortlessly are so appreciated !!
Ste I'm new to your independent music . Ye makes me feal good . I appreciate it peace out
Maravilloso!!! Fenomenal!!! Un virtuoso de los últimos tiempos buckethead!!!
I’m a guitarist also, and I’m not normally never have been a big Buckethead fan, but I love this damn song. Wild.’ Man”Sticks with ya, kinda like Funcadelic” Masterpiece’ Maggit Brain.’ One of the most movingly amazing. . R.I.P Eddie Hazel.🤘🏻🙏🏻🎸💫✨🌎
Wow, man, amazing video. You were in the right place at the right time to catch what appears to be the upper limits of human ability.
Buckethead.. Man.. OMG.. YOU ARE IN SUCH AMAZING GODMODE HERE.. YOUR CREATIVITY WAS MANIFESTING MAN IT WENT ALL OVER ME.. I'm honored to have watched this powerful creativity.. I FELT THIS !!!
I'm over here just blaziñg through all my best Bmin licks! Buckethead IS the real deal....
I've listened to alot of versions of this song, including at least one live performance, and this by far musically was one of, if not The, best I've put my ears on, thank you for capturing this.
most underated guitarist ever, its time he gets the credit
Not that I've seen everyone whose ever touched a guitar but I couldn't be more impressed by someone who knows the fretboard like this magician.
Damn Buckethead is an extremely badass guitarist, absolutely phenomenal.
Sickest guitar player ever.
What a genius.
Just pure rock n soul
😘💕👍
Amazing stunning awesome,I love you Buckethead!!!U kill it!!!
Bingo
That’s why this is my favorite version he’s so precise and this is a beautifully melodic version he truly is one of the best
Agreed, there a stronger melody, and it gives it more voice and heart. Well said.
Kind of :)
I completely agree.
What I like is when a musician can express feeling. When an I can empathize with what the instrument is Is expressing. You don't have to be the fastest or the best but to leave the listener with emotions and a heartfelt moment is the best! Thank you you fing rock!!!!
Nice job adding the backing track! Cool stuff.
