In my opinion this song is the best guitar piece ever written. He plays the the he’ll out of it when he’s playing live. The slow start, steady build up, and then it just goes absolutely insane. I am always completely entranced by this masterpiece.
Man... such a good solo. Not because he can play fast, but because there was a melody behind the shredding with so many variations. 7:33 to 7:54 is sheer brilliance..I find myself listening to it over and over.
The section you refer to is why Buckethead isn't just another shred guitarist, but is instead on a whole different level. I happen to hate shredders, but I love Bucket. In my opinion it's a real shame he never had a great singer and songwriter working with him. He could have played wicked melodies for days.
HES SO BEAUTIFUL , I WISH I HAD JUST A TINY FRACTION OF THE TALENT HE HAS . I WISH I COULD MEET HIM I BET HE SPEAKS BEAUTIFULLY in person. I hope I can meet him someday . Thank you Buckethead you are amazing.
Same here . I just got into him about a year ago . Hoping he gets well and is able to go on the road again but if not I still will be so grateful to buckethead . He truly is a savant of the highest order. God Bless him

I have read a lot about him and listened to various interviews, from his shyness to his sensitivity to his illness, I am sure that there is something that goes beyond... I keep other considerations to myself as they are private, but I am sure that he will still have a lot to transmit, because he has a very particular and profound form of art... like many artists he struggles with his demons, the misunderstandings of a world that is too limited... to understand superior or different minds
Easily one of the most underrated songs by one of the most underrated guitarists on the planet. Such an amazing composition by one of the most prolific guitarists in history. Shred on Big B Shred on!
Sweet Jesus, he is playing the eff out of this song. I have listened to dozens of versions of this live and they are all awesome and different. This one is on another level though. +1 for best live version
Holy Moly!!’ Ive watched and listened to nearly EVERY version of this gem, and I’m telling you, he truly is ON POINT!! Not that ANY of the others ARENT on point, but during this particular session, he is just dialed in A.F.!!! Just melding so many variations and a schmorgasboard of tasters choice tasty riffs all beautifully and precisely impeccably molded together in one bad ass Buffett of tones arranged together for those prone to audio enjoyment.... Thank you so much buckethead for sharing your thoughtful and ultra articulate arrangements of notes.... U must’ve been thru so much, because after unimaginable hardship, that’s when I create the most feeling and deep emotional stuff of my life.... My brother, without the EXPERIENCE, there can BE NO EXPRESSION.... yer biggest fan, Shane.....
Ive done it 5 or 6 different ways on my channel Sacred and Scarred but I learned from the 6 min live version. I just want to do it and him justice. Check em out give me some feedback. All I use to record are two cell phones and a line six practice 1 10 inch amp connected to a e 55 pedal
If I had 10% of his talent, I’d be a 1000% better guitar player!!! Absolutely phenomenal!! I have just recently started to listen to Buckethead, and I’m blown away.
It's hard for me to imagine this guy not being the best ever I mean no disrespect to the Gods Satriani, Yngwie, Vai, Jimmi but I don't think any of those guys would feel confident battling this man and winning he's so smooth and precise his music speaks volumes
Totally agree. I'm 70 years old. Saw Jimi live in '68. Saw Santana many times. Saw Stanley Jordan live twice before the pandemic. I'm a huge fan of Jeff Beck. Saw Al DiMeola. Saw Zappa in the 70s. Bucket head is in a class by himself and comparisons to others would not be fair. His tone, the clarity and precision, and especially the passion... unmatched.
That's a bold statement...honestly I think maybe only Vai could match him technically in terms of being a shredder with practically unparalleled melodicism and clarity who can still manage to convey emotion among all of that. I still think Beck might be the best in terms of ideas, especially in terms of improvisation. But yes, he's RIGHT up there with the very best of all time.
@THERE WAS NO CHECK!!! It's just your opinion. Music is not a competition to see who is the best. It's meant to enjoy. Do you know Shawn? Does he think he is the best ever? Or are you speaking for him? There is no "ruler" in music. I think your life would improve if you stopped taking yourself so seriously.
When he’s shredding you can hear…”And as we wind on down the road…our shadows taller than our soul, there walks a lady we all know… who shines white light and wants to show, how everything turns to gold…and if you listen very hard, etc.
This song is what inspired me to learn guitar. No joke. It just popped up in my recommended, and I clicked it to see what the goofy guy with a KFC bucket on his head could do. It was Bill's version, the one with 10 mil views. This version comes in close second for me.
Buckethead and Shawn Lane. Two guitarists that guitarists do not like to talk about. These two guitarists exist (existed in Shawn's case RIP) on another page. They took shredding to another level. Buckethead cites Shawn as one of his favorite guitarists and one of the best of all time. His fingering style is similar to Shawn's.
Guitarist Buckethead should replace Sebastian Stan for the role of Tommy Lee. Besides Machine Gun Kelly looked exactly like the young Buckethead unmasked when he played Tommy Lee in The Dirt! 🎭🎨🥁🎸

Easily some of the most beautiful phrasing I've ever heard from him. First half moved me to tears
The following has the best phrasing in my opinion: Buckethead - Soothsayer 8/18/2012 HOB - Anaheim, CA FRONT ROW HD
Everytime I hear a diffrent rendition of this song I am more and more inspired to write
Brian killed it on this version. Tight sound and full of range. AWESOME!
Ultraman in the background was cool. ;D
It's actually a tv series called Giant Robot/Jaianto Robo, but yes, it still stays cool.
