tim robbins deserves lot more respect. i dont understand why people dont respect his talent. his movie shawshank redemption is no1 on imdb from last 10 years
+Abhinav jha I'm not sure who you're talking about who doesn't respect him, but I agree with your assessment. Mr Robbins is a gifted actor and director. I wish he would do more of the latter.
he's won an Oscar but he's very underrated. just like how Mark Ruffalo is very underrated although he has been nominated for an Oscar too. I think what he meant by underrated is Tim Robbins is not exactly well-known (as compared to names like De Niro, Day Lewis and Al Pacino)
Considering all of his GREAT roles and how many Oscars he's won.. He's HELLA underrated Another great role of Robbins, except of Andy in Shawshank, HAS to be Jacob Singer in "Jacob's Ladder"!!
I LOVE what Tim Robbins said near the end of his speech, about not being ashamed if you have been abused and about getting help... that getting help is the strongest thing you can do for yourself. Thank you for that, Tim!
Robbins was incredible in that movie. The acting in that film stands, for me, as a master class in what a true ensemble should be...fantastic performances from everyone and my pick for Best film of 2003
@@thefilmeffect6089 I disagree. His performance in Shawshank is one of the absolute greatest ever and would have been my pick to win best leading actor in 1994.
It was above average at best!! This movie was not that great!! Robbins was least deserving of the actors nominated.. In fact, Kevin Bacon did a better job and his character was more interesting!!!
@@hdentaldudeYou watched the movie with your eyes closed. Kevin Bacon's whole subplot with his wife was useless. Tim Robbins had the most difficult character to potray (a pedophilia victim) and he did a good job.
The way Susan looked at him... I usually don't care about celebrity couples but their separation broke me because I always thought that they were so alike and they were so in love.
@@mehtaabsandhu199 I actually think that he was way better than Hanks. I have no problem with Hanks winning but technically, Robbins performance in Shawshank Redemption was just superior in my very honest opinion.
His message at the end about his role of a brutalized person and seeking help for those who really are victims of such terrible things, I just wanted to squeeze that cutie in my arms! He's just too great this guy :D
Abraham Rivera it’s worth noting because there are great actors of all races, but rarely do actors of color get the opportunity to show their range in the roles available. Surely you have the intellectual capital to understand that.
5: Djimon Honsou-In America (4/5): Honsou always manages to be an intriguing presence withs his relatively short screen time. 4: Alec Baldwin-The Cooler (4/5): Baldwin is an imposing and entertaining presence in all the right ways. 3: Benicio Del Toro-21 Grams (4.5/5): a performance that creates for a despicable and damaged character that brings all the subtilises necessary to always convince. 2: Tim Robbins-Mystic River (5/5): Thought it's a joke he wasn't nominated for Shawshank, no one else could have done this character as perfectly as Robbins he's never not intriguing or sympathetic but through Robbins performance your never sure whether or not to be on his side or against him. 1: Ken Watanabe-The Last Samurai (5/5): This was a close one the only reason I put him over Robbins is because this is Watanabe's finest performances while Robbins wasn't quite able to top Shawshank. Watanabe is always able to effortlessly convey his characters inner struggles, he has amazing chemistry with Cruise and is never anything else than an amazing character who could not have been more perfectly brought to life than by Watanabe.
I wasn't expecting to be so deeply moved and actually cry, from an outstanding performance in a such special movie. Just watched it and Googled it to make sure he got an Oscar for that.
I LOVE what Tim Robbins said about seeking help if you've been abused. That it can be the strongest and best thing you can do for yourself :) because it's true.
One of the few times when I saw the movie before the Academy Awards, and felt a great sense of pride in the Academy for rightfully awarding Tim Robbins the award. His performance in Mystic River was just heartbreaking. Of course he should also have been nominated for The Shawshank Redemption back then, but that's another story.
I really enjoyed Tim Robbins and his performance in this film. His Oscar win was well deserved. He should've received a nomination for "This Shawshank Redemption".
Mystic River is a masterful portrait of fate and friendship across generations. Director Clint Eastwood draws brilliant performances from an outstanding ensemble cast in which Sean Penn's searing portrayal of a father in pain calls to mind a young Marlon Brando. The use of locations in working class Boston presents an authentic background for a story of people whose lives are woven together in a world that they cannot escape.
I just saw the movie, he was soo great in it. I didn't like how unfortunate his charactor was in the movie but his acting was brilliant. Well deserved. Also he should have won in Shawshank Redemption as well.
Watanabe was wonderful but it wasn't exactly a stretch. He was smooth, calm,a man you would ride to your death with...but it's a performance that relies on his.amazing charisma more than anything. Still, no one else could've played Katsumoto. Like your pick tho cause he was the only one here who didn't win a single award despite so many great nominations. Just another example of what a killer line up these five are. Benicio was my pick and he was also ranked lower...we'll,third.
3 years late but this is the worst take I have heard in a very long time. Hiroyuki Sanada and Tadanobu Asano (around that time) were far superior Japanese actors.
Hard to compare actors, but going purely off the amount of acclaim they have received, it's impossible to look passed Day-Lewis and Winslet. Then you've got other Oscar winners like Waltz, Bardem, Del Toro. Tough to make this claim about Watanabe, as fantastic as he is.
Feels like there aren’t a lot of people in this world that love Sean Penn and Sean Penn loves back, but Tim Robbins is one of them. He was very emotional watching his friend win and give a beautiful speech.
Oh, Ken Watanabe is so gorgeous and was so thrilled here. He is so talented, he gave his best as Katsumoto in The Last Samurai, he should have won! I love you, Ken. ♥

Anchored by the exceptional acting of its strong cast, Mystic River is a somber drama that unfolds in layers and conveys the tragedy of its story with visceral power.
What he said about abuse is so true given that the Markham's especially Jimmy's wife looked down on those who were weak and detested and despised them. The whole family were psychopaths. Robbins role was the saving grace in that film. Truly touching performance.
Ok, from the title I pretty much knew what was going to happen. But when she called out his name I was like "Yay!!!" It was a massive for him and yet he still took the time to support abuse victims and he was the only one who didn't applaud himself. He's the best guy ever! PEACE BADGE!!!!
