      @@robk9685 I disagree.
      If you pay close attention, Ms. Phyllis truly was hurting and her insecurities were major.
      She made lots of jokes about her weight, about being lonely etc.
      In this interview with Aresenio she mentioned them all, including her habitual drinking.
      Sarcasm was Ms. Phyllis' way of trying to escape her emotional pain. I wish she would've realized how beautiful and talented she truly was
      A Queen indeed. There will never be another❤

      She was beautiful and talented but she didn’t see herself beautiful. No matter how we saw her, it’s what she thought about herself. She just couldn’t shake those feelings which cause her to believe that she was not enough. I’m sure Insecurities, self putdowns will lead someone to struggle with self-esteem

But I think her height and beauty intimidated men, plus she didn't play. Such a crying shame that we lost her so long ago. I don't know what Black Hollywood is waiting on or what it will take to finally bring her story to life. But I think Paulette Braxton has the height and beauty to portray Phyllis. Just my two pesos.

    • @pahzplace7853
      @pahzplace7853 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Shit, if anyone can't love you now, there's no need to check for them or pay them mind later. Not that I am promoting, just because you like someone, they're suppose to turn around and like you. But some folk like to play with peoples love, or would rather they be "somebody" before "giving them a chance (side eye) or at their convenience they will "entertain you", being that there's something in it for them. Nooooooooo thanks! when it comes to love, and being connected, there's never pressure, friction or drama! Things really just run smoothly, compliments of innocence. There's one thing that I learned in ***my Life, and that is whoever belonged in it came. If I was interested in getting to know someone I never had a problem approaching them, and us vybing. For the most part when things aren't working out, or someone rejects you, that a sign, more than likely working in your favor.

    She did a song called "I Refuse to Be Lonely". Loneliness and relationship difficulties were a common theme in her songs. They are in Adele's songs as well, but with Adele I always got the feeling she was mostly just singing the words being expressed (very well, of course, but essentially acting/performing). With Phyllis I got the feeling she was living the lyrics. Makes one wonder if she should've given an older man a shot as it seems like the young ones were just playing around with her heart.

      how she die?

    • @pahzplace7853
      @pahzplace7853 6 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      I never understood how it would be possible for someone to not know that they are fine. I'm not saying that she didn't know, but I find it very difficult that a fine person is unaware of their fineness/attractiveness and beauty. Now that I'm thinking about it, sometimes the people that they settle for "in the name of love" or they believe love them, twist their thinking, and at times may even destroy their confidence and self esteem. Everyone that claims to be attracted to or interested in you isn't always interested in you for productive reasons. As sick as what I'm about to say sounds, but some folk want to get close, just destroy you. I think they call it build you up to bring you down. What they see in you, what they know you may or may not know..........that which makes them envy or hate you just because. After a certain age, (especially once you've had your fill of certain experiences) when it comes to your unions, those that you are connected to. One should really take them more serious. Getting caught up in half ass folk, folk that love to play mind games, folk that don't know how to love, folk that aren't spiritually reverent, spiritually mature, is nothing but you repeating whatever disappointments or past lessons time and time again. As how could anyone that is lacking in spirit, have the level of discernment to recognize and know who stands before them/who they're dealing with, your desires, your heart. If who you are is genuine, and you have no problem investing 95% in whomever you're choosing to love and your genuine isn't welcomed by someone who's genuine is equal to or greater than yours, you guys have nothing in common. Your natural essence, minus any material or earthly gain needs to be rich or else everywhere you go you will just be taking, draining and poisoning others due to the fact that you're lacking in your essence! Too many people are naive about what quality relationships are about and get caught up in folks charm and empty nothings, only to end up depressed or in whatever emotion and revert to all kinds of crazy just to cope. A smile and a good time with?!?!?, doesn't speak volumes of what awaits you in the future. Whether it's from a man or woman

She was an alien, so incredibly unique and had a mind of her own and thoughts that weren't matching with the times. My mom always mentioned her, apparently I met her when I was a baby. I never took the time to look at old videos to get a glimpse into her personality. I'm enamored by her beauty, charisma and intelligence.

    Phyllis Hyman seemed like a nice person and she was not an unattractive person at all. Some guys may have been thrown off by her height, but everyone has challenges and reasons that contribute to why they have difficulties in relationships. It is not good to base all of your happiness on finding someone. Relationships can be nice, but you should have a certain love for yourself first and foremost.

    It's hard to believe that someone that can sing a song that literally brings me to tears can be so damn funny.
    Not a days goes by that this wonderful human being does not cross my mind. Her voice, her humor and her beauty will forever be etched in my memory.
    The lesson of course is, try to release the pain, forgive and keep help if you can. It's a lot easier said that done given our current health care structure.
    Gone but certainly never forgotten.

      +Zenguy89 this is true. I am/was a fan of phyllis hyman, but when I saw this interview the first thing i thought was wow she reminds me of jazmine sullivan with being statuesque and a vocal powerhouse. there isn't another phyllis hyman and she was slaying before jazmine.

    She was an emotional mess inside. I have the same mental disorder she had. While i take my medication diligently she said herself that she drank & then some. Keneth Gamble (Cheryl "Koko" Gamble of SWV's uncle) worked w/Phyllis Hyman & said her voice worked very well w/a live orchestra. I wish she were still here but a wish is a dream your heart makes. Rip beautiful one.⚘🕊🎤👠💄💍👑🤔

    I wish TV One had been able to use more live footage for Unsung. These moments capture the essence of who Phyllis Hyman was as a human being. Smart, funny, introspective and of course battling mental illness. The bio on her Strength of a Women is great but there were a lot of hatters in there too.

    She's a preacher vocalist the way that sexy tone sound in the melody Phyllis Hyman can sing to me all night when the music stops. I wish she was still around today cause music is important. I'm a huge fan of Phyllis Hyman I will visit her hometown Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. RIP Ms Hyman real diva is in your Legacy!!!

    I always wanted to see her perform. I was in college 1995, when I heard on the radio that she committed suicide. I stopped listening to her music that day. I was angry at her for doing that. I've recently started listening to her music again. Phyllis Hyman was an amazing artist. She was very sensitive like most artist are. I wish she could have received the help she so desperately needed.
