I love her sense of humor and style. This one was a classy feminine powerful singer , I've been binge watching her interviews and listening to her music daily .
No one will ever replace this voice from what god gave her, I wish she was still here with us so she could have found true love and give her fans the best shows and music that we all loved about her, if god could give her a second chance she could do it all over again and stayed here on earth with us! GOD BLESS HER SOUL WE MISS YOU PHYLLIS HYMAN!!
The one and the only one - Phyllis Linda Hyman! STILL my favorite female Vocalist! Singing was like BREATHING to her. Her VOID shall never be filled. REST QUEEN. You are missed.
Phyllis Hyman was one of few artist that could sing anything and make it her own. when I first heard of her passing and what happened for years I could not listen to her because her voice had so much life it was hard to believe she was gone. Elegant sophisticated and a stage presence that was breath taking. She has been missed greatly
❤ My love is your love and what love you gave to the world and gave up yourself. You're with the right person now you're solely covered. You can continue to dance and sing and your so full manner. And so far awayou are blessed. Phyllis heiman you entered my world and opened the door that I will never forget, thank you😊
All the times i've wached Spike Lee's "School Daze" movie, I never knew who that beautiful woman was that was singing while everyone was slow dancing. Now I know. It's a shame she took her own life but the music and these interviews is still here and that's how people will remember her. When she sang her voice was smooth as silk. When she spoke she had a great sense of humor and a loving heart.
She is a beautiful lady and have a. Great voice,I love her song living a lone.this year is1917 I wish I can fine song on a cd.if anybody know where I can find it. Please let me know. Smile
I REMEMBER ARSENIO SHOW HE WAS THE COOLEST HIPEST SHOW HOST WE LOVED ARSENIO HALL SHOW, AND WE LOVE PHYLLIS HYMAN SHE WAS SO BEAUTIFUL AND SHE CAN SING, WE LOVETHEM BOTH ARSENIO HALL AND PHYLLIS HYMAN
I was a Phyllis fan back in the day as a young child sneaking to buy her albums with my little money (dad was a minister and secular wasn't allowed). Her voice was like silver and she sang with such ease. None of that "hollin' " that goes on now. I soooooo miss her and how great she would have been.
Best live background blend I have ever heard. I think that's Kevin from Luther Van Dross' backup singers. Amazing! Had so much fun with this. Have GOT to subscribe! Rivka
I met Ms. Hyman at the Blue Note in NYC in the nineties. The club is a very small, but important ,historic jazz club. She was friendly and came to everyone's table to introduce herself. She was a genuine person...❤
I remember when my favorite hair salon ( during my college years) kept her " Living All Alone" cassette on repeat! When " Living All Alone" came out, I was so addicted! RIHP!
glad to be of service. you have no idea how hard it has been to find this. enjoy it over and over again. it was a labor of love of PH. Check out part 2
With all the conspiracy in this world going on against intelligent women of color, as we haven't got much of a place in this world, Phyllis' life as short-lived as it was is inspiring enough to say 'keep on keeping on'. The thought of taking one's own life as a solution to the pains of this life sometimes has crossed my brain, but there a lot of lessons we can learn from her in how to deal with the lows of depression.
@jeffreyBboy RIGHT, Whitney who!!! I remember when Anita Baker bursts onto the scene, and Whitney kinda faded, one announcer put it this way when asked what's wrong with Whitney "she's got a case of the Anita Bakers'" I guess so, cause Anita is straight up grown folks music. Peace Lady L.
No joke! I was acting just like the guy Arsenio described as soon as the video loaded. LOL Such an AWESOME upload! Thanks Tjmama5! OMG! I would have given my whole arm just to be there under her presence.
Did you catch the Unsung episode about her on TVone and the situation of Clive Davis and ARISTA RECORDS dropped Phyllis Hyman from the label when they signed Whitney Houston... In the words of Arsenio Hall... Hmmmm... :-(
Love her intro. Awesome pure talent. Live unstoppable. Would love that intro of her Stylistics cover. I wish u could rip it from the other stuff and just loop it with my PH playlist.
I saw her in concert in the early nineties, so there was a lady that came to the stage and I never forgot her performance, I guess she was an up and coming artist and she started the show either first or during intermission, been so many years ago and can't remember her name either, but she sounded just like Phyllis Hyman!! I was in utter shock, I had never ever heard of her. I don't know who she was, could've been singer Allison Williams, just can't remember, but whoever it was sounded just like her. Yes..but there's only one Phyllis Hyman, only one.
Arsenio Hall Is a great man with great taste In music and he always gave great and great underrated artists a spot on tv not because they had number 1 albums because they were great I want to start a petition to get this show back on tv
Aaaaaw....Arsenio blurted out "your too kind" as if the crowd was cheering for him...the cheers were clearly for Phyllis...LOL You gotta love Arsenio though!
@Stanleyballard Thank you! Phyllis was such a talented singer, but she played a large part in sabotaging her ascension to mega stardom (Clive played a part as well). Ignorant folks like to blame Whitney, but it’s a fact that Whitney had nothing to do with it. Phyllis and Clive had their issues long before Whitney was signed to Arista! All people have to do is read her autobiography.
Thank you so very much for posting this, TJ. I've been searching for this for a very long time. As a matter of fact, I haven't seen this vidwo since I first started using TH-cam back in 2006. Would you like to be friends with me? Please let me know.
Tjmama5, what is the name of the lead in music? Thank you for posting this video - I watched a lot of Arsenio Hall, and never caught this show. Wish I'd have been there live. I loved her voice. R.I.P., Angel Girl. She's gone almost 20 years now. Shit.
No auto tune here baby. Pure voice and pure soul.

No joke! I was acting just like the guy Arsenio described as soon as the video loaded. LOL Such an AWESOME upload! Thanks Tjmama5!
OMG! I would have given my whole arm just to be there under her presence.
no lady could do it like Phyllis - a tragic loss

Arsenio had a reputation for being really phoney with people on and off stage, but you can tell he really loved Phyllis.
Phyllis L. Hyman 1949 - 1995

YEAH!!!!
i think arsenio was too black for them, some rumors was it died after he had farakan as a guest.
or the episode of him going off on a gay guest lol
Tjmama5, what is the name of the lead in music? Thank you for posting this video - I watched a lot of Arsenio Hall, and never caught this show. Wish I'd have been there live. I loved her voice. R.I.P., Angel Girl. She's gone almost 20 years now. Shit.
