Awesome knot… I have watched your video again and again until I felt comfortable that I understood the steps required. I’ve watched several videos using the same concept involved here, it’s very similar to the “Surgeon’s Knot” and others…where the idea is to distribute the stress on the line to the wraps and away from the hook eyelet, allowing the line that is wrapped to stretch before putting stress on the line at the eyelet, a very cool idea that works. Thanks for a nicely done video. .

Thanks for sharing this, I just tried it. Well my first try was a fail. I have osteoarthritis and issues with handling small stuff but this works great for me. No more swivels to connect lines
Doe that come with no feeling in finger tips? My hands continually go numb and I have very faint feeling in the tips of my fingers and they always seem to lock up and crack. It's pretty annoying when trying to tie knots I'm only 32 years old and all my friends laugh at how long it takes me to tie but they don't understand. I boxed for years and did mma and all kinds of other strenuous work on my hands so that might be why but yeah any way it sucks
Amazingly simple to tie and I'm curious as to knot strength? The only issue I have with this is if you plan on running it through your guides, it absolutely is "knot" a replacement for the FG. I tend to run long leaders to have the luxury of cutting back long before I have to retie but if the strength of this knot is fine and you don't have to worry about bringing it through your guides, there's virtually no reason "knot" to use this. Thank you!!!!
This is a slightly crude-er version of a knot called the SC knot. A true SC knot is a bit smoother with the braid making the coils on the outside of the knot. I have used both the SC and FG, and I do the same as you with long leaders so you can cut them back as you change baits. A proper SC is just as strong as the FG, but it is a pinch chunkier, so it will go through the guides better than say a uni-knot, but not as smooth as the FG. Trade off is its easier and faster to tie than the FG.
@@claytonkr05 I do understand what you're saying but my next question, that nobody has answered, what is the knot strength? If it's not close than the fg than it's not even relevant. Full disclosure, doing my own tests it's 30 % less than the fg which is absolutely not acceptable. I also have not done this test with minimum variables so I could be completely off but I would love to confident in the SC like am I am with the FC. Regardless the true SC knot is here to stay and rightfully so. 5
@@mixedmartialnutrition1746FG isnt hard when u been doing it for awhile and is the strongest knot. Not sure how well this knot stacks up a comparison test would be nice
Great nott thank you very much there's a lot of knots out there that take a long time to join two lines together and that's the last thing you want when a boat is rocking around. When all you want to do is fish thanks for that quick demonstration which will save me a lot of time.
Appears rather simpler TO GET RIGHT than the FG knot. Today my FG's don't fail, BUT until i set up a non-portable apparatus that insures very even tensioning throughout the 'Chinese finger trap' portion, my FG'S were great - right to second they weren't great, typically after many trip's worth of repatedly passing through the guides. What i was sometimes happening was, if the ENTIRE braid wasn't utterly seated with a complete 'color change' taking place, eventually any 'slack' at the front end was becoming redistributed, lessening is holding power. i have tied FG's in the field, that have held up even, but i have trust issues after tossing no few sinking crankbaits for a country mile (unrecoverable). i don't foresee those things ever happening with this easier-to-consistently construct alternative junction.
@@russellwhite7676 LMFAO.😆😆 Yeah he really complicated that description but what I think he was tryin to say is that this is easier than the FG knot and more reliable because if he would get one loose wrap on the FG then repeated shock through the eyelets would distribute the looseness throughout the FG knot and cause failure. I THINK!
the Yucatan knot, very easy to tie outdoors when fishing, my choice is to finish both sides with a couple of half hitches (maybe makes the knot a little bit more chunky but i'd like to think adds extra safety.
@Greg Kyle it's a joke, a saying. Nothing to go for or against this knot. It's a lighthearted saying to joke with buddies in the ice house. Also, opposite of "fair weather" I'll fish in -40° and I've fished from a kayak on lake superior.
I'm having a little trouble with slipping of knot with 30lb braid connected to 14 lb Florocarbon. So should you always double and wrap the thicker diameter line to the thinner line? i.e. I should wrap the 14 lb floro to the 30lb braid? It's my first time adding leaders thank you
Yucatan knot...for small fish it ok but weak to hold big fight againts big fish and predator fish that make a surprise shocking whrn it take a lure or bait. Fg knot is more strong for big fish and fishing situation.
I'm still going to use the fg knot. You literally can't get a narrower knot. If you watch the right video on how to tie it , it's a simple knot to tie. It's NEVER failed on me ,even when snagged on something. The knot at the hook or lure will break first . This is a nice looking knot though and a good video.
I'm sorry to be THAT guy, but I'm done keeping my mouth shut when people claim the FG is the best knot WITHOUT any specifics. Yes, it is a fantastic knot when pairing a braid to a mono or fluorocarbon leader AS LONG AS the leader material is significantly thicker in diameter. If you tie the FG with equal size diameter braid and fluoro it WILL SLIP. A good combo would be 10lb fluoro to 10lb braid since 10lb braid is roughly the same diameter as 4lb fluoro. The knot functions by the braid gripping the leader, just as if you were gripping a rope with ur hand. Think about trying to climb up a gym class rope made out of parachute cord. Not happening, it would slip right through your fingers bc it's too small, not enough surface contact. You need a nice wide rope, about 2" in diameter to create the friction needed to sustain a powerful grip. Obviously that's a bit of exaggeration in terms of size relation, but the logic remains. FG knot is NOT a universal situation knot.
@@Nubenhoofer it's ok to be that uneducated guy , if it works for you, have at it. Those that want to use the BEST knot for braid to fluorocarbon, the fg is it . Now kindly cry elsewhere, thank'ya 👌
That is an extremely beautiful knot my good sir. Can it be done the opposite way around? Since braids diameter is thinner than the mono. Just curious my friend. Either way it is an extremely thin and slick knot.
@@zgckdpdydhdb9194 I switched from the double uni to the Albright/Alberto because the uni broke on me multiple times. I have only had the Albright fail on me because I tied it poorly. Other than that when my line breaks, it breaks below the knot. Do some research, the Albright is one of the strongest braid to leader knots out there.
@@zgckdpdydhdb9194 It looks like you lack reading comprehension skills. I didn’t say the Albright/Alberto was the strongest. I said the Albright/Alberto is ONE of the strongest. I prefer the Alberto because it’s the strongest between Albright and Alberto. And yes, there’s a difference between the two. The FG is much stronger but is more difficult and time consuming. I can tie an Alberto in a third of the time it takes to tie an FG. I’ve jigged up Cobia off the bottom many times with an Alberto without issue.
It took me a few tries but I think if you be sure to have the mono come out towards the endof the line it works better. You don't want the mono to you in a straight line you want it to double back to get wrapped up in the braid.

Nicely done, I now use this for all my inshore, lighter fluoro/braid connections. Thank you!
Thanks Reel
Agree, good for lighter inshore mono-braid. I’ll stick to FG for the offshore heavier stuff
That solved a major headache of mine.
Thanks for the great video mate.👍🏻
Thanks a lot my friend😍
been using this knot for years for ice fishing, by far the best knot you will ever use
Thanks Steve
I love this knot. Been using it for over 2 decades.
Thanks sharing buddy
Took me 15 times to get this right. It looks exactly like yours. Thank you so much.
Great job mate practice makes perfect good luck
How much line did you lose?
@@ML-ks2lj now and then I get numbness, fingers lock in closed fist. Simple things like opening up a zip lock bag hurt or I just can't do it
I am partially paralyzed in my left arm and hand the simple knot is the best knot in my case
@@jd8146 did you have a stroke? That's what happened to me

I do a version of that SC knot. Very strong. Especially good with light test line

@@billsikes4007 a true SC is supposed to be just as strong as the FG, but the knot shown here is not a true SC, this is a modified version of it.
@@claytonkr05 Same statement applies, the sc is noticeably thicker than the fg and is not a long line replacement.
This is the best video out there on tying this knot. Thank you!
Thanks a lot Tara
Thank you so much great knot
from lebanon ❤️❤️
You’re welcome 😊
why does my leader just slip out after it wraps around itself like 3 times? im following this exactly like you're doing and its just not working
If you are going to double the mono, try the RP knot. smaller, faster to tie and 100% strong
why same as fg knot its a waste of time this 1 or surgeon is fastest
Would love to see someone test strength of this knot compared to others... this one looks very easy and quick!
agree
@@CauseImFlawless I third that request!
Cant believe people promote that garbage troublesome fg knot over this
@@mixedmartialnutrition1746FG isnt hard when u been doing it for awhile and is the strongest knot.
You're very welcome James 😊
very good composition, well done and very easy, it was perfect for everything, convincing, and very strong
Thank you buddy😊
What the hell was that gobbelty gook?
What the hell did you say?
@@russellwhite7676 LMFAO.😆😆 Yeah he really complicated that description but what I think he was tryin to say is that this is easier than the FG knot and more reliable because if he would get one loose wrap on the FG then repeated shock through the eyelets would distribute the looseness throughout the FG knot and cause failure. I THINK!
try the pinky tension method for FG
the Yucatan knot, very easy to tie outdoors when fishing, my choice is to finish both sides with a couple of half hitches (maybe makes the knot a little bit more chunky but i'd like to think adds extra safety.
Great tip!
@Greg Kyle If you can't tie knots, tie lots!
@Greg Kyle it's a joke, a saying. Nothing to go for or against this knot. It's a lighthearted saying to joke with buddies in the ice house. Also, opposite of "fair weather" I'll fish in -40° and I've fished from a kayak on lake superior.
@Greg Kyle dang. It's a joke. Not a Weiner. Don't take it so hard
@Greg Kyle you sound fun to fish with
those are the hands of somebody who has never fished a day in his life

Best tutorial for the FG by far! Damn I needed this video years ago!
Thanks Tyler
You’re the best Gene
Thanks a lot :)
Exactly.... Wouldn't recommend this knot for BIG GAME fish!
good info
So this knot is called the Yucatán knot. Is it stronger than a double uni-knot? Thanks.
I'm still going to use the fg knot. You literally can't get a narrower knot. If you watch the right video on how to tie it , it's a simple knot to tie. It's NEVER failed on me ,even when snagged on something. The knot at the hook or lure will break first . This is a nice looking knot though and a good video.
thanks buddy
This now my go to leader thanks so much!!
Thanks
Looks like a super easy knot. The music matches the knot for shure.
Thanks buddy
That is an extremely beautiful knot my good sir. Can it be done the opposite way around? Since braids diameter is thinner than the mono. Just curious my friend. Either way it is an extremely thin and slick knot.
Yes you can tie it opposite way buddy
Twists are in the mono and not the braid. The braid slides out without some half hitches. It’s quick but double uni or Alberto is still superior
Double uni isn't good for your guides and Alberto isn't a good knot snaps too easy just take the extra time and tie a fg and have no issues
I use this exact knot exclusively on braid to fluro leader, it's never once failed me even on big fatties.
@@jaxbeach09 it's not the Alberto if a 76% breaking strain of the original main line and a fg is 98% so your wrong
Dumb question, how come my leader keeps sliding free of the knot when I pull the main line? I am not sure what I am doing wrong
Make sure you insert the leader through the loop you created with the braid before making your wraps.
Definitely going to try this way and see how it all goes
Dude what a great alternative to an Alberto knot
great Nick
I can’t tie this! It breaks loose every time I pull it tight!
It took me a few tries but I think if you be sure to have the mono come out towards the endof the line it works better. You don't want the mono to you in a straight line you want it to double back to get wrapped up in the braid.
