    What ever became of the Helix? I thought you were going to review it... I took a leap of faith and bought a Helix LT. LOVE it. Best gear purchase I’ve ever made. Sold all my pedals.

      Shane Williams - I come out of the Helix to a small Peavey mixer - Aux send to FOH - Mono signal to a Headrush 108 FRFR - I’m very impressed with the Headrush. I wasn’t sure if the 8” speaker would be able to handle the low end. It does.

    Been playing since I was 5 yrs old. I've owned a million guitars. I have14 now. My favorite is my fender American Pro Strat, also. Next is my Squier 50's butterscotch Tele that I bought used, for $150, and I play it more because it sits by my chair in the living room, because I don't have to worry about it if my grandkids pick it up. So, go figure, you like what you like, no matter what the price, so if you buy what you like, you'll play it more.

    Thank God for local music shops. I recently purchased a Boogie at a local shop, and I really don’t know how anyone makes a purchase like that without hearing it, experiencing it, touching it, etc. It’s such a personal purchase, and even more so with buying a guitar. BTW... retail price was the same as it was on the big internet shopping sites. Matter of fact, the guy gave me a discount right off the bat that made it a no brained.

    I have 3 speaker cabs built by Mojotone here in the US. ! is a 2X12 they built for Celestion for their 50th anniversary. It's covered with 'gold tolex' and came with 2- 75W Creambacks. The other 2 I had special ordered. Both 1X12 made from solid pine and covered with tweed. I put a 15W Celestion Alnico Blue speaker in each. I use them with 4 small tube heads I have. The Mojotone cabs are the highest quality and best craftsmanship i have ever had, and they sound great! I've been playing for 50 years and have had quite a few! In stock ones ship fast. But if you custom order one be prepared to wait for it, mine took 6-8 weeks. Well worth the wait though!! JMHO... --gary

    Want a good tube amp at an entry price Monoprice 15W. Takes pedals well, very versatile for the $$$ it's worth it.

    • @Cody-Blues
      @Cody-Blues 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @alan wake yeah I would have to agree with that however what would you do if your regular tube amp broke you'd have to take it to somebody to repair it.I have two of them that I've had for about two years now the only problem I've had with them is that I had to remove the keepers on the tubes because they would resonate if you're rocking them hard. I'm telling you for a $215 price point they are a great sounding amp in a tube format. I usually set mine to the 1 watt setting. Run a pedal or two, maybe just the drive off the amp and spring reverb then jam for hours. Is it a blues jr, nope I also have a AC130 2x12 it's not that either. Just an inexpensive amp that will give you great tube sounds. I really feel this gets overlooked by the main channels most of us watch. I would love to see somebody like Phil come out and say hey there's a lot of talk about this amp, this is the price point, this is how it's made this is what it is and give it tone test with an honest opinion.

    I actually have an Yngwie style strat I had put together from spare Fender parts (70's Fender Mex re-issue neck, Japanese vintage white Fender strat body, Dimarzio HS-3 Pickups, Brass Nut etc.). I actually then bought that particular gig bag because of the Yngwie branding and the gaudy cosmetics LOL.

    For bedroom amp, I'd recommend the Vox MV50 - although it's a hybrid with nu-tube tech, it's got a headphone jack, and a local pro plays one at gigs and keeps up with the band. The amp I have is an Orange rocker 15, and while that would be a good tube bedroom amp for switchable wattage (.5, 1, 7, 15) you could play it all day at the half watt setting without rattling the windows, but I think if you bought it for that, you bought the wrong amp. It works for that, but really shines in the 7 and 15 watt use. Also, if you're paying for a bedroom amp, the rocker 15 is 900 bucks new, whereas that Vox hybrid is 150 but you'll need a cab for it.

    As far as first guitar amps go, if I had known then what I know now, I'd have bought a Laney Cub12R. Usable tones, effects loop, 1w or 15w for power, full tube amp and it works great for blues, rock, hard rock, metal. It cleans up fairly well too. But your best bet is to go to a guitar store, tell the guys what type of music you like to play, and have them help you dial in a good tone on a number of amps and see which one you like best.

    Good evening Phil and all. Love all of the content you've put out but I have a question about Agile Guitars. A buddy of mine has one of their 8 string guitars and mentioned the company to me to check out. I am very interested in the Agile Chirality 627 Headstockless and want to pull the trigger on one but the no headstock scares me a bit. I love the look and the color of the body, the neck looks great and everything about is cool but I just don't know much about no stock guitars and how reliable the restringing is. I do have 2 other options from the company in mind, but would like feedback if you can on that specifc model or others that are similar. Thank you in advance for any advice.

    I’ve had a dozen gigbags. The best one is this malmsteen fender:
    - neck strap
    - strap button location reinforced
    - good protection
    - not too heavy
    - sturdy zips
    - no cheap plastics parts.
    I can fit in it :
    - little big muff+power
    - music sheets
    - cables
    - clip tuner
    - capo
    - spare strings.

    Concerning building a kit. If you have any hesitantly ... buy a used Fender Squire, take it apart and put it back together. Start replacing parts. It’s the most easily hot roddable platform and an affordable approach to learning how guitars work.

    • @psbii
      @psbii 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I've upgraded the parts of my Squire Strat just because I was sentimental about my Squire being my first electric guitar, and now it kind of pisses me off that it is one of my favorite guitars since I now have custom shop stratocasters and PRS Core guitars. So yeah, use the cheap Squire till you figure out what you really like, then if the Squire is still the "type" of guitar you like (Strat, Tele, etc), then just start replacing the pickups, tremelo, saddles, nut, tuners, etc, until it is what you love. Then it is kind of fun to have a truly awesome guitar with the Squire label!

    • @chrisofnottingham
      @chrisofnottingham 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      IMHO both dual and triple rectifiers are just marketing. Either you need to crank the volume to near maximum to get the voltage sag effect, or, the power supply has been designed to stay steady anyway. The reason they sound good is that a well designed valve amp will sound good anyway.
