Price is no way to judge a guitar. I have an 80$ Squier that is good as my Fender Player Series! If it sounds good, and feels good, and inspires you, who cares what it costs.
Its all what works. I had a finely made, well set-up vintage guitar to get hooked on playing in the olden days, but now I can hardly see any need to be upgrading my Malaysian Squier. Pickups maybe. Bonus of encroaching senility- Dug out that old Squier Bass from the Barn, and it turned into a real nice made-in-Mexico Fender Precision, after about a twist of the truss rod.
Bought my first guitar when I was 14, it was a blue Charvette with a Floyd Rose. If a 14 year old newbie can change strings and adjust the bridge angle on a Floyd Rose equipped guitar, there's nothing to be scared of :)
I own a Silver Sky, but it has nothing to do with it being a John Mayer signature guitar. I simply love the neck and pickups, and was able to buy one for cost. I can’t see the neck plate when I’m playing it. It could be a Squier, if it played that well.
I don't think showing your guitars is bragging at all. I love seeing all the nice stuff that I couldn't dream of being able to afford. Kind of like living vicariously through the channel lol
Yep. One, it’s your business. So of course you should have a big selection. Two, it’s YOUR business. No one has a claim to what you own or a say in how much you own.
Thanks for answering my question about the Music Man Silhouette at the beginning. Sorry I messed it up last stream. I’m a dude for the record haha. I finally bought it and I love the feel. Mine is loaded with a Seymour Duncan P-Rail preloaded pickguard which are cool but I think I may swap them for a HSH Fishman Fluence Open coil set or a set of Dimarzio Gravity Storm set.

hey phil, i bought a used 2016 trampus green prs se in awesome condition for 300 bucks, totally re did everything ;locking tuners, nut, pots , input jack , rewire, bridge, fret level , and put in a set of thornbuckers + plus, and my prs ROCKS . my other guitars have bareknuckle and motorcity pickups
Refinishing a guitar always sounds better than it turns out in reality. I refinished a poop brown Peavey T-15 once. I was going to do a cherry red stain like an SG. After getting all the paint off with chemical strippers and sanding it down, there was a huge, ugly knot in the wood where the arm rest was. Crap. Had to paint it a solid color (Krylon rattle can red). That is when I realized that opaque, solid color guitars are opaque, solid colors because the wood is too ugly for a stain. I’m glad for the experience but I was not happy with the outcome.
@Phillip McKnight, check out the CLF Research Doheny V12. The custom MFD pickups with the ability to Serial, single coil, parallel each pickup and any combination of is awesome!
Interesting points on signature guitars! Oldest one in my squad a 95 EC Blackie Strat! Wanted a black Strat with maple neck since I was 12 and saw one in a music store window! V shape neck just great for me! Only Strat I currently own or plan on owning! Funny thing is I'm not huge Clapton fan! Like him in bands but only a few songs in his solo career! The guitar spoke to me not the artist! Peace Phil!!
I bought a 2013 epiphone les Paul tradional pro the second quarantine was over. I didn’t need it, I already had a 2000’s stagg cherry sunburst lp that I love. But the flame on the neck and the figuring on the satin back just struck me. Plays great, sounds great, and has a thiccccc 50’s neck. I’d suggest checking them out, just make sure you find the right one.
29:30 Would love the Strat show with Phil! Love strats! But yeah other guitars are great to keep it interesting! Phil could do a show in the forest watching the trees grow that make the guitars! I am sure it would be intereting and enjoyable as long as he was talking!
I guess you and I must be about the same age Phil. My second guitar was also an aria pro ii excel series. Great guitar, I still have it 30 years later. The neck is definitely one of the best necks I've ever played/ owned.
RE: sentimental guitars. I know what you mean. The 3 used guitars (1985 Ovation acoustic, more recent Martin laminate 12 string, & Martin 000 laminate) that started my “collection” were an attempt to recapture early musical experiences. They were guitars like those loaned to me for use for a time. I play them rarely but I love them. I’m still looking for a circa 1950s Epiphone jazz box like my Dad owned.

And is there any Stewmac deals or promo codes, etc. you can recommend, or a link through you I should use, I’m also ordering a roller bridge? www.stewmac.com/luthier-tools-and-supplies/types-of-tools/files/fret-end-dressing-file.html 2. Can you please tell us the details on the BC Rich Gunslinger when you get it? What year you believe it is, what type of Floyd Rose Bridge, Pickup, Pots, Tuners, etc. also, if it has the original BC Rich hardshell case, & if you’re interested in selling it, I’d be interested in buying it? 3. I really like my Nash JG-63 (Jaguar) and Noel Gallagher switched to using a Nash JM-63 (Jazzmaster),instead of using Fender’s, and I believe that is completely by personal choice, not endorsements or anything, have you tried one? Thanks!
I think signature guitars are more acceptable when they have unique features but don't look especially unique. I respect Eric Johnson but I'm not really a fan of his music. Still, I have an EJ Strat because it's exactly the Strat I wanted at a price I was willing to pay. If it had had his name on the front of the headstock (or something even more obvious cosmetically done to it) I never would have bought it. But as it stands now, I think it's the best guitar in Fender's non-custom shop lineup.
That is nuts how long it is taking to get you r guitar out of canada. I just ordered a Solar guitar from Ola and got it from Spain to Arizona in 2 days! I could not believe how quickly it arrived. NUTS
It's funny because the signature guitars that I really like the look of and would want to play are of artists that I don't like or listen to. The newest Keith Merrow signature guitars by Schecter (that white one is gorgeous), the Yvette Young Signature by Ibanez, or the Nick Johnston signature by Schecter, they all look great and I would totally play them. I don't listen to any of them though. :P
