pkil..i just want to thank you..gear reviews and people like you and henning have given me something to really enjoy.im a gear nut..i play all day and look at and research gear whenever i have a minute...this is a great community we have, and you have really added to the content in the community
Thanks for posting the questions with time frame on the side. This is worth its weight in gold! Please never lose this format in the description of your vids! :-)
1833 Martin, 1883 Washburn, 1887 Yamaha, 1902 Gibson, 1932 Rickenbacker, 1946 Fender for acoustics. I looked it up because I was curious when you talked about the first acoustic guitars. Great live show as always Phil, cheers mate \m/
Don’t think amps will ever be more valuable than guitars. You can play an electric guitar unplugged but an amp by itself is a foot rest. Love you videos
Hey Phil, thank you for the videos. I enjoy the content and I've found myself seeking you out at times for reviews and insight. Thank you, for all you do and for your service.
1:56 Yep, French Vet here (O3 with equivalent MOS of 25A I guess). There's other memorial day here in France (in relation to WW1, WW2,...), but you're right, in this day and age of world been connected and not at war anymore to each other, we can definitely have respect for vets from countries around the world. The Internet brings people together now. Guitar lovers from all over the world were on the chat because we all share the same passion. And I saw similar things with other communities, regardless if it's guns, cars, video games, or whatever...
hey Phil, I just found out that the BOSS Katana actually has MORE amps in it than just those on the dial - how about THIRTY more! Although you can still only save 4 to the amp at any one time, since it only has 4 save slots/channels. There is the Bogner Uberschall, Orange Rockerverb, Vox AC30, Marshall Plexi, both single and jumped channels, Mesa Boogie Mark IIc combo & Dual Rectifier, various Fenders, etc., etc. Basically, you download a file, import it into the BOSS Tone Studio pc program and it unlocks the hidden amps. I am totally buying a Katana now!!!
Holy-Moley! Thanks for the tip on Monte Mongomery; how can I be 52 and not have this guy front and center of my catalog. Fantastic! Also, thanks for the gentle reminder about Memorial Day. Veterans Day we all sit around in our Division caps, eating hot dogs and poking fun at our comrades' other branches, units or jobs. Memorial Day we think of those who will never sit around with us on Veterans Day. Take care out there.
Yeah, I 100% remember it being a Washburn for a while because I had one then and people would 100% hit you with "Wayne!" when they saw that headstock and logo.... Good point about the oversweet sample vs modeling presets.....
I know this is 3 years old, but it was really interesting watching your insight with 3 years of hindsite. Also, Silver Jubilee's can sound amazing, but they HAVE to be dialed in very specifically. If you go off that path, they stink.
4:00 I believe there's powertubes that can even be changed if you want (from the video I saw on the early prototype). And it should be in the 1,500€ price range around $1,700... so yeah, it's not cheap, but considering the fact that we can recreate a lot of different amp, from Fender, Marshall, Mesa and such... this is absolutely not a bad deal; not worse than let's say a Mesa Mark V (which is an amp that I love too... just not on the "cheap" side too). And somehow, 1,500€ is a very similar price than a Kemper, Fractal AX8, a little bit more than Helix, but still decent for a real valve amps that can be reconfigured to re-create different amps. And I'm saying that while being a convinced person with the Kemper, Fractal and Helix... I just think it looks to be like a very good tool to have on a studio for instance, for someone that doesn't want to have dozen of amps, and still cover plenty of different sound. Or for the touring guy doing some cover songs, and therefore maybe need a lot of different sound each night, or the guy that play in multiple bands in the same time, it could be a good solution. The early video was looking good, but I can't wait to have your opinion because I still believe your opinion more to be 100% unbiased and honest :)
thanks for the reminder of "what is the problem" with the used gear. Been bit every time to varying degree buying used. Cars guitars, tools, amps. That advice rings true for anything
phil your streams are never boring i love it. would you consider ever giving quick guitar reviews in the streams similar to tone king when he opens a new guitar. you have so many i'd like to know some of them
1:10 Not only John Mayer, but also now that PRS also have the S2 line in the $1,200-$1,600 price range, which could easily match the Fender American Pro and Elite, and could be the one step down to the CE24, with a 22 frets model, bolt-on guitar with basic wood finishing.
I have two things here. First, I totally agree about the modeling presets. I have an HD500X that I just got evem though everyone said it sucked compared to the Helix. It doesnt. The patches are just over the top. You put the time in and dial in your tone. If you want the Helix but cant afford it, just get the HD500X used. 2. I love my tine Blackstar Fly 3. Itts a beast. Runs off of a weord 6.5v 1 amp or six AA batteries but its got a fantastic tone and it makes me play my guitar every day because its so easy to carry around.
I went guitar shopping in Tokyo last month and it is JAW-DROPPING what you can buy there - especially coming from UK. Vintage/obscure/rare guitars, pedals and amps. Picked up a few pedals - an old Sovtek big muff, a TS808 reissue and a '96 Boss OD-2R. I found that one at the bottom of a bargain bucket. AMAZING. Go if you get the chance.
I live in Washington state and have a humidifier in the house for certain times of the years. In the winter the heat is on (forced air) and with AC in the summer, it can get dry in the house. Sometimes so bad it dries out my nose and such, so it'll kill my guitars and drums as well. The areas you mentioned are definitely worse, but it's not limited to that.
My friends big brother had a Marshall jubilee in the 90s. At the time I used to fantasise about owning a Marshall. I was 15 and playing guitar through a distortion pedal into an old hifi system. I remember being so excited when my friends brother said I could play his Washburn metal style guitar through his Marshall. It was at low volume and I couldn't believe how bad I sounded through it. It was very unforgiving and no amount of adjusting could get a decent distorted sound at low levels. It was basically worse than finding out Santa Claus didn't exist. Nearly 30 years later I have a Friedman Runt which is sounds like I always imagined a proper Marshall would sound.
Phil, on the Wayne's World SNL skits, Mike Myers always had the pointed droop headstock Washburn. In the first movie or course he got the Strat, but in all the reunion sketches recently it's been the old Washburn back again. I don't know if Mike owns it personally as a memento or it sits somewhere in SNL prop department and gets pulled out. Maybe someone should ask Mike Myers about it! I do see when SNL does musical skits they will use the same instruments over and over, as I think the props dept. just has that set on hand. I remember in the 2000's there being this Antigua green 70's P-bass that kept getting pulled out. It was used in a "Wake Up Wakefield" sketch played by one of the preteen junior high jazz band members. Then it was seen again in the famous More Cowbell sketch played by Horatio Sanz.
Phil the most recent article in can find on the value of my 59 fender twin was printed in 2011. that was from vintage guitar magazine. any other places that you know that I may look for a more current price?
When it comes to making $$ as a store, it's not in those razor thin margins on new gear any more. The money is in resale of used gear, lessons, and repairs where overhead is low. With GC introducing their own line of guitars, they add a margin of income. The stores that succeed here are the ones who stay in only a few lines of new gear and mostly keep fast turnover of good used gear.
White Fenders could be popular because the color goes with any custom color pick guard or other accessories. They also hide smudges and small scratches that show up easily on dark colored or black guitars.
Collings!!! Omg. Played on once too, it was amazing. But wow that price tag. Probably a good investment though. 2017 Collings vs. 2017 Gibson in 10 years, I would think hold its value better.
New shirt idea: Know Your Gear... "Right?" Haha, just messing with you. Just noticed it on this video :) Have really been enjoying going back and listening to these Q&A videos, relatively new subscriber.
Hey Phil, love the channel BTW. Question for ya... The Collings guitar you talked about that was 6 grand. You said it was better quality than the Les Paul. What does that actually mean? What is better? The tuners, nut, neck, frets, pick-ups, etc..... I guess my question is, what does one guitar maker do to totally "out quality" the other guy? And, the big question, can you hear and feel the difference??? Thanks! Keep up the good work!
When it comes to white strats, my mind always goes to Albert Hammond Jr. for some reason. He's not the most iconic strat player or most iconic guitar player in general but his white strat is a staple of his and he just seems like a cool guy. He stays in the pocket and makes the best of his abilities.
Thanks for the practice info. I get so distracted in my practice room but do great in my living room axe to thr10... never thought of it that way... thanks so much for the great info. Also, considering a tube amp. Is the h&k grandmaster 40 a good way to go?
28:00 But also because they know the guitarist will try it by playing alone, and therefore it has to be very "full" and rich... often too much to fit in a band or a in a mix.
Hi Phil , just wanted to say love your guitar forum , know your gear .. I have a Fender deluxe 85 amp original with red knobs .. As you know they've reissued that model . what is your opinion of it ??? Thanks !
I seldom am available to watch live (sigh) but thoughtfully enjoy watching . Just wondering, do you do any recording , have a home recording studio ? Another thing, have you tried the Vox VM50 hybrid tube NuTube techno;ogy (pre-amp section) ceramic tube ? , clean, vox, rock models ? Thanks for the TH-cam series ! . Mike Cossey.. P.S. I just bought a Fender Mustang 90 (24 "scale, old man I am so I have been switching to short scale guitars for ease of playing. First time owning a guitar with P90 Pups, very impressed with the sound and playability .
Joyo Klonz? Awesome! Hey, maybe you should also try Joyo's DC-15 amp and compare that to your Roland Mini Cubes! 😎 It sounded, to me, like it had more crunch than my old original Mini Cube. 😬 It would be cool to hear what you think on how it sounds next to new Mini Cubes or older ones. 😃❤️
Hi Phillip, the Dual Klonz should be all tubes (both pre and power) on the signal path (a part from the effect loop) if they didn't change the design from the original kick starter campain. I can even handle different power tubes ragning from EL84 to 6l6 (both octal and noval). The digital part is only controlling a lot of relès. I found it is very interesting (and I am pritty prowd it is an italian desing)... let's see how ti works.
?Hi Phil our church recently went to a quiet stage. I was playing through a vox sc30 with an line 6 pod go. With the amp now gone I can’t get decent tone any more from my brand new strat. I have ditched to my Les Paul style Xavier but it’s just been rough. Can you give me any suggestions on the best way to navigate going direct with a quiet stage? Thanks Gary
Hey Phil, I am a very recent subscriber to your channel and i love how u go why things are done and what makes them special and everything. Thank you! That said, i always had this question, when artists came up as artists, they got popular playing cheap gear and make do stuff as well. Why don't the big companies make atleast one mid priced piece of gear that's dedicated to be a good instrument. Why isn't spreading music the goal anymore.(obviously they are businesses and they need to make money but if there was an answer, what would it be?)
PRS P22 playing through a Yamaha THR10 amp. Tap playing on the neck is not as loud as it should be. Should it be as loud in all the positions on the 5 way switch? Any hints as how to change the setup to make tap playing more responsive?
Little fun fact: Rich Robinson (Black Crowes) only used Marshall Silver Jubilees from around '89 to the mid '90s. So anyone wanting his tone from Shake Your Money Maker and Southern Harmony would be well off getting the reissues.
We get some MIJ fender here in Australia cos its so close but the older MIJ models sell really well here cos thet are amazing and well priced... US guitars are too expensive.
Are you on Fridays or Saturdays with Live Q&A? I had you scheduled in my calendar for Fridays. Then I noticed that I wasn't seeing you on Fridays, and missing you on Saturdays. So, I changed my calendar to Saturdays. And, now I see that I've missed a Friday Live Q & A. What gives Phil? What days are you going live?
IMO Washburn were beast in 2004-2006. Wasburn Taurus was a phenomenal bass, won awards, everyone wanted them. Then they started making crummy glossy black ones with one knob but with the same shape and completely stopped making the good one. And tried to up-sell the "real" Taurus at a higher pricepoint with a more metal shape (Washburn Force ABT bass) which also wasn't as good and then they nosedived everywhere. They can bring back the real Taurus T-24 or go bankrupt for all I care.
Any time you must pay 6 to 8,000 dollars for a reproduction of a 3 to 400.00 dollar org cost guitar you are going to have predictable cliental problems. Though I can guess why the cost is so much higher. Many cannot. I have heard a deal of bitching. About this. I guess this factors in. Thanks for another great video. Michael
Bring back the NF3 and the swamp ash Special. PRS is not making a maple fretboard option. Which is really asinine. CE24 with maple board would be sweet.
HAHA SO TRUE ABOUT THE SILVER JUBALE, THEY AREN'T THAT BIG OF A DEAL. THEY DON'T SUCK BUT IT'S JUST A SILVER MARSHALL. ALL OF THERE AMPS SOUND THE SAME TO ME WITH DIFFERENT GAIN STAGES.
hey Phil I had an original Silver Jubilee when they came out back in 86 I used it for 4 years but never could get a good Distortion sound nor can I get a good clean sound wa's always dirty and muddy and not very articulate those amps suck then they suck now I couldn't give it away I sold it for $300 to a guy that offered me $300 a year before I wanted 400 he wouldn't move from three that's how much those things suck
Hey Phil (or anybody who wants to help), does anybody have any experience with Washburn Woodcraft guitars? I'm thinking of getting one but I'm not completely sure, it has Koa back and sides with a solid spruce top and a MAPLE neck...
23:30 If I had a million dollars... I would build a multi-room studio, buy hundreds different guitars, amps, pedals, as well as some drums, synth, etc... and I will teach and record people for free for the rest of my life. Young musiciens could come into the studio to see and try different gear in-situation, and then use it to record their music and make an album and practice for tour, etc... Helping them to find what they like, what they want, and make their music happen. I would do plenty of real blindtest to help them to decide by themselves, not only based on others opinions or marketing, or because of a price tag or store seller speech... but in regard to what they like. I spent a lot of time when I started music 30 years ago, to just find out what gear to use, how to use it, etc... and it was expensive to go in a real professional studio, and I had to become an intern to learn some stuff... today, we can do a lot of things at home, and we can watch a lot of youtube video, but we still need the knowledge from experienced people, in situation. That's why I would build a whole studio to be able to produce a music from A to Z.... and it would be free for all. Only the best candidates could come in, and not just the one that have parents with enough money. My 2¢
I have added the Index of questions in the comments section. Thank you all for another great live show!!!
Thanks........... can you put a link to the T's above.
Denver is dry too
Phillip McKnight i got a 1992 set of EMG SA/SA/81 for your buddy! Lol

Levin 1900 as well. (Bought by Martin in 1973)
Don’t think amps will ever be more valuable than guitars. You can play an electric guitar unplugged but an amp by itself is a foot rest. Love you videos

Phil please dont give up on G&L! i think you should check a USA made Legacy model and tribute serious S-500. the pickups just OOZES ROCK and ROLL
Holy-Moley! Thanks for the tip on Monte Mongomery; how can I be 52 and not have this guy front and center of my catalog. Fantastic! Also, thanks for the gentle reminder about Memorial Day. Thanks for the stream and answers!
the Silver Jubilee. ..Slash used them back in the day and does so now
And John Frusciante, Rich Robinson, Alex Lifeson, etc. Slash was for sure the reason any of my buddy's knew about this amp.
White Fenders could be popular because the color goes with any custom color pick guard or other accessories. They also hide smudges and small scratches that show up easily on dark colored or black guitars.
Man I love this dude he really seems cool and down to earth, and has some killer reviews
Live in Tucson when in the USAF (84 to 86) I think I remember some places using the evaporator coolers ? adds moisture to the air.
I would really digg a "tips for buying an acoustic" vid.
I host an open mic & the #1 question I get is about buying a low dollar/used acoustic
FWIW, the Joyo Klonz does have a pair of 6L6 power tubes, and an assortment of 12AX7 and 12AY7 preamp tubes, and it's 25W.
Collings!!! Omg. Played on once too, it was amazing. But wow that price tag. Probably a good investment though. 2017 Collings vs. 2017 Gibson in 10 years, I would think hold its value better.

Hi Phillip. thanks for serving buddy
I love my Friedman BE 100 best amp I have ever owned or played through
When doing the pickup demo, try the Virgil Arlo and the mojotone 58 with hot tail and maybe the mark foley if possible

just bought a prs 245 spalted maple top a great buy as andertons gave 30% off keep it up andertons
Steve Morse used a Marshall Silver Jubilee back in the day. I remember seeing it in one of his instructional videos.
What is your opinion on the kemper? That's what I'd be interested to hear.

When you said that thing about punk rock and stand up comedy...I'm not sure if I've ever agreed with a statement more.
Thanks for serving our country
hey phil...headrush pedalboard?? looks great...cant afford helix..or the bias head..so trying to get a consensus..thnx
28:00 But also because they know the guitarist will try it by playing alone, and therefore it has to be very "full" and rich... often too much to fit in a band or a in a mix.

PRS P22 playing through a Yamaha THR10 amp. Tap playing on the neck is not as loud as it should be.
Should it be as loud in all the positions on the 5 way switch? Any hints as how to change the setup to make tap playing more responsive?
Hello, Phil. Doing great here.
On EMGs i agree,i have a recent set and they sound nothing like an old guitar i had.
What is your fav. IRig amps? Pedal?
Slash used and even continues to use the Jubilee (depending on venue).
I never saw this one... became like 👍 #1000 ! WOOHOO!
Greetings from Switzerland
Not surprised you are a veteran. You often think of others and seem to care a lot. Thanks for defending our nation.
Oh shoot!! Guilty!!! But I love looking and dreaming bout my next.
Yeah I love my white strat because of Wayne's world. Did Jimi Hendrix also play a white strat? That makes it even cooler.
hey man, would you review any Music man guitar? cheers
greetings from Juarez Mexico.
what's your opinion on old Aria guitars
IMO Washburn were beast in 2004-2006. Wasburn Taurus was a phenomenal bass, won awards, everyone wanted them. Then they started making crummy glossy black ones with one knob but with the same shape and completely stopped making the good one. And tried to up-sell the "real" Taurus at a higher pricepoint with a more metal shape (Washburn Force ABT bass) which also wasn't as good and then they nosedived everywhere. They can bring back the real Taurus T-24 or go bankrupt for all I care.
all the Fender Japan guitars that were available in the late "80,s were all made by Ibanez, they were abundant in Canada
THE HONEYTONE IS AMAZING THROUGH ANY FENDER. ACTUALLY ALL OF THESE NEW MINI AMPS ARE GREAT STOMP BOXES.
what do you think of dragon heart picks?
hi there
please advise needed fender twin 64 can you drive this amp to o/drive
phil...have you played any of the korean hamers from 2017
Any time you must pay 6 to 8,000 dollars for a reproduction of a 3 to 400.00 dollar org cost guitar you are going to have predictable cliental problems. Though I can guess why the cost is so much higher. Many cannot. I have heard a deal of bitching. About this. I guess this factors in.
Thanks for another great video.
Michael
Peavey Classic 20 mini head or Egnater Rebel 20 head?
Which Supro is that in the back?
hello from Troy, NY!
isshinryukid hello neighbor, I'm watching from albany
Bring back the NF3 and the swamp ash Special. PRS is not making a maple fretboard option. Which is really asinine. CE24 with maple board would be sweet.
@Phiilip Bonamassa ditched the Marshall for vintage Fender Tweed twins and bassmans 2 years ago, along with most of his pedal train
Of course Wayne had a Washburn - he famously was from a suburb or Chicago.....
Love the videos
Phil please do a review of a Suhr Modern!!!!!
My 2¢
Pretty sure the klonz is ALL TUBE not a hybrid
Im cool with sharing Vets day with honorably discharged military members, even if they didnt deploy like the rest of us..we all brothers!
Prs SE 594??

I think those two are mutually exclusive. :)
