Do people really think that it's all sunshine and rainbows in prisons? Obviously the wardens would have tried talking to the inmates, this is a last resort when they pose an imminent threat to the safety of prison staff and even other prisoners and need to be restraint. You will never know if they somehow manage to obtain a weapon, hence going in with the right equipment and training is absolutely necessary. This is the real world, these inmates may be toughened criminals and will use all their strength to kill a warden if they decide they want to. This was just a demonstration and that was obviously not a real inmate. SPEAR also handles prison riots.

Looks like there is a need to build ramps for wheelchairs within prisons too. Not just for safely moving violent inmates, but for ageing inmates as well.

It's the last resort by the Prison Dept..they will first try to talked to the inmate but when the turned violent then that's when the 3 men team will go in to subdue the inmate

Of course it's staged. They do this periodically, with people from their teams taking turn being the "bad guy" in scenario exercises as such.

Since the inmate is locked up. There is Nothing the inmate could do to harm people outside. Communication and negotiation should be adopted first. If it does not work, deny food is step 2. After one to three days, inmate is weak and can be easily managed. This demo is excessive and unnecessary!!!!

@@deschan2246 human or animal alike. If there is no violence displayed, there wouldn't be a need for such force to be in application. First, u have to understand that the inmate is displaying violent tendency in the cell, therefore priority is to remove the inmate from the cell swiftly and safely to prevent possible injuries to himself.
In order to do so, the officers also have to give reasonable consideration that his violent antics will cause injuries to the officers. Thus, a reasonable amount of force would be necessary to restraint his movements for the safety of all.

The goal is to prevent more harm to both officers and inmate and to deescalate the situation. If you start beating them things are just going to get worse for both sides. Some inmates have uncontrollable violent outbrusts due to psychological illnesses, and do not remember what happened once their episode is over, I'm sure they'll be thankful for such no violence procedures.

@@deschan2246 Only 3 are doing the technical arrest. More officers equate to increase safety for the prisoner. Two handle each arm of the prisoner while one acts as covering/distraction/giving commands. You want them to handle solo or 5vs1 even? Can.. but dont blame them if they get violent in doing so. If i have to handle 5 aggressive prisoners on my own.. i wont be showing any mercy to ensure they all stays down and I wont get hit cheap shot or getting my equipment stolen. Are you watching too much Ip Man thinking its possible for 1 person to handle multiple aggressor? Or even 1 person handling 1 aggressor for that matter? Try successfully pinning down a person who is all out struggling to escape or hit you first then mayb you will think twice before becoming keyboard warrior.

It was Pulau Senang which was converted into an experimental penal colony in 1960 but it failed miserably with the death of some prison officers. So unfortunately the harsh spartan nature of prison is necessary for these criminals before they are released back into the society. Best way to avoid - don’t commit crime.
