  • A new #Toyota4Runner is coming for 2025, but if you cannot wait, the 2024 #4RunnerTRDPro is the pinnacle of the #4Runner lineup and the #TRDPRO can still take you to a lot of places further off the beaten path than most of its midsize rivals. #Toyota may be selling an old truck, but its still one of the most capable and reliable new vehicles on the planet.

    Happy Sunday everyone! Hope you all are having a fantastic weekend. As much as this truck badly needs a redesign, we’re going to miss an old school truck like this. We’ll be at a big Toyota event next month and we are expecting the redesigned 4Runner to be revealed there so stay tuned for our coverage from that event in April!

    This is the last great Toyota. I upgraded from a 21 SR-5 Premium to a 24 Pro. It is PERFECT!!! All the things you point out as annoyances are what makes is so great. It’s reliable and capable and does not have a turbo or a ten speed transmission that will not last as long as this powertrain. I road tripped the 21 and it’s a comfortable cruiser. I’m no Luddite. I have a 23 C8 Stingray and love the tech. But there can be room for basic reliable vehicles like this as well.

    i just got the '24 off road premium which had all of these options added to it, including all the black badging/labels, black off road trd tires, black exhaust tip, heated steering wheel seats, etc... it's pretty much an offroad pro and i absolutely love it! i would definitely recommend this vehicle to anyone. Plus putting all the seats down probably gives you more room than a tacoma bed from what i saw at the dealership, maybe it was the short bed i was looking at i'm not sure. You could live in this thing if you had to. It's immense inside, you can take it anywhere and from i understand you can get around 400 miles on a full tank which should run you about $100, compared to my prius C which got the same 400 miles for about $40-$45. Next i wanna get it wrapped in black matte, add a brow, and tint the front two side windows the same tint as the rest of the windows that are already tinted. Make sure you get a vehicle when there is a special going on like mine was, it will easily save you a few hundred bucks a month. i think the deal was also better because the dealership was surrounded by homeless encampments and there was a crazy homeless guy screaming the whole time we were in their, so that might have helped, basically certain dealerships might charge less than others depending on the area, city, etc.... anyway that's my story.

  • @zalllon
    @zalllon 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

    You can drive the 4H if the roads are not dry if needed, but keep it in 2H to get best fuel mileage. Regarding the lift gate, with the exception of a handful of Limited owners I know (in our local 4Runner club of 150+ vehicles), none of us want that power lift gate … especially with the mods we do. This truck is very relaxing to drive, lots of visibility, comfortably high up, this isn’t supposed to be driven quickly around town or the hwy. With my mods to increase off road capability (bigger/heavier tires, steel skid plates/front bumper/winch, roof rack) on short trips I get about 14.5 mpg, but on longer trips (+8 miles) I start to get 17-18 mpg. Aftermarket rust proofing, change your fluids often, and folks are easily getting 300K miles and more with no issues.

    I love your reviews but I think you’re way too harsh on the 4R. Yes, we all know how old the specs are but yes, it more than ‘feels like it’s built to last’, as you say…it does last! The poor mpg is more than made up for in the reliability and longevity. And to me it’s really comfortable on long trips, on the hwy, etc. And it will never strand you. The ‘old school’ feel is what makes it great. No electric steering, no turbo…love it! 100k mi on my ‘17 and zero issues/problems. I’m sure the next-gen 4cyl turbo will be reliable, as far as 4cyl turbo’s go, but the 1GR-FE engine is a legend. Oh, and the ‘S’ in the transmission isn’t ‘sport’, its ’sequential’ and simply limits the top-gear the trans will go into (and you downshift manually there too).

Also the buttons on the back don't lock the tailgate, they are the rear window controls. The 4Runner is more geared towards offroading. Especially the TRD Pro and OffRoad premium. It will go where almost any other vehicle in it's price range can't except for Jeeps. But a hell of a lot more reliable than a Jeep. Yeah it's old but proven reliable. Braking also needs to improve, you have brake much sooner than a unibody vehicle. Cabin noise is also pretty loud, especially on highway. @@KNRS927 I disagree. Sooo what you are saying is Toyota is only worried about the reliability not anything else?

      @@Trance786 In this car, reliability and capability are likely the main factors toyota is worried about. Those are the main reasons people buy a 4runner. I mean there's a reason Toyota moves nearly 100k 4runners a year despite the fact it hasn't had a full redesign in over 14 years.

    Is it safe to assume that the next gen is going to look similar to the Tacoma since they were alike in this generation?

    I love everything about the old 4Runner but the crash ratings. Does pretty poor with today’s standards.
