- This is the last and final review of the 5th Gen 2024 Toyota 4Runner, as David predicts that the 2025 version will be an all new 6th Gen version - likely to debut sometime this year. And therefore, David feels that this is the last chance to buy the proven, most reliable 4Runner ever built, before the new version comes out which could tip the scale differently. In fact, David believes in the 5th Gen 4Runner so much that he provides 10 reasons to buy the current version before it's all gone and will be too late.

I bought a 2024 4Runner TRD Pro and clicked on this video solely to reinforce my confirmation bias. Mission accomplished.
What did u pay?
In the market for one too. Curious to know what you paid. Dealers in SoCal are still marking up the Pro's.
i paid 50k for a 2024 TRD ORP last weekend. All black . love it!!
I went back and forth for months but decided to get the limited because it's all time 4-wheel drive and put 5,000 in toytec in the suspension. Never selling.
confirmation bias is a beautiful thing
Bought 2023 Limited last year and I'm really happy with my purchase. I have two words for anyone on the fence Bullet Proof
bought a 2024 last week. wanted one for the last 20 years. so far, i love this vehicle.
Congrats! I have a 2017 limited and 7 years later, still love it.
Because of you sir I was able to convince my wife to get this instead of jeep wrangler I always loved the 4 runner we got the 23 4Runner Ted off road prem. My wife is obsessed with it smiles every time she’s behind the wheel as do I so thank you very much
That is awesome!
You dodge the bullet! Jeep is trash!!!!
Still driving my 1985 4runner 4wd.
Me too.
Do you have an IG?
@@ron9_468 IG?
How many payments do have left?
@@fredercolani If could go back in time would do the same, don't want used so just bought a 24 TRD Pro Tundra ...hope to still own in 30-40 years like @markreynolds3850
Bought my 16 TRDP in 18 for $38K. 6 years later, 80k miles total, worth $28K. Moves from rocky trails to the highway and is my everyday driver. Owned a 3rd gen Lim prior. Few things you buy ever live up to expectations. 4Runners exceed.
Bought my 07 in 09 for 20k. 15+ years and 150k+ miles later, it’s still worth 10-12k. 😂
Agreed. I it looks like the quality and features of many of the new toyotas (along with other brands) have been heavily cheapened.
I got my first 4Runner (2024 TRD OffRoad) last Saturday. I didn’t know it was possible to be in love with a vehicle till now!
I own a '24 4Runner and an '18 Tundra. Feels like I'm hoarding GOLD!😅
Same 2021 tundra and 2023 ORP 4runner last of the greats
21 tundra CM 4x4 cement
24 4Runner 4wd underground
2021 Tundra, 2018 4Runner and a 2024 Camry. Hope they last forever.
Lol
Enjoy the tax-free capital gains year after year :D
2019 4runner sr5 premium with third row seats here.
I love the 4runner, I love road trips and I love the confidence it gives you when you are on the road.
So far I visited 30 states with this 4runner and I want to visit more!
Toyota is the best!!!
I prefer a screen that is incorporated in the dash rather than one that sticks out like in the new Tacoma.
Amen.
We have 5th and 4th gen 4Runners. From family emergencies in the middle of the night to having fun bouncing along mountain trails and roads, we trust them to make it through. At the end of the day it’s all about safety and reliability. Not the latest tech. Long live the 4Runner 😎
Which do you like better? Have a Gen 4 V8 and delbating on upgrading before the 5s are gone.
@@brianl4941 The 4th gen is also a V6. The 5th gen is more roomy. The 4th gen is more sporty feeling because it’s slightly smaller and has direct throttle feel. I like the manual 4wd shifter in the 5th gen. I do not like push button 4wd. The 4th gen has around 210,000 miles and runs like new. If you can keep the 4th gen and get a 5th gen off-road or off road premium
Just bought my first 4Runner last week! 2021 TRD Pro in Lunar Rock with 35k miles. Absolutely love it and get so many compliments. I’ve owned multiple F150’s and the comfort and ride quality is nice, along with the acceleration, but my lease was up and I wanted to finance this time around, so the 4Runner stole my heart. Plan on keeping it for a LONG time!
What was the price?
Congrats. I just got a Lunar Rock ORP
Price
@@George-on3zm I got mine for $43k. Had 7900 miles. ORP bone stock. I love it.
I purchased a new 2024 4runner a few weeks ago for all the reasons listed on this video. I wasn't interested in the turbo and/or hybrid tech on the newer model, so I bought a new 5th generation before they are all gone.
Bought my 2024 TRD off-road last month so at 67 years old it will out last me by a long way.
So this will be your last vehicle?
That’s what I’m afraid of. If I buy this, I would never enjoy another new car. 🤣
My great uncle was born in 1900. At 67 y/o he bought a 1967 Plymouth Valiant. He died in 1994 and had only put 37,000 miles on his car! I drove it for a while after he died, cool little car with straight six and a "three in the tree". :)
@@smitty1hunter cool story. As I remember that 6cyl was a slant 6 and was one of those motors built in the 60s that was almost indestructible, very reliable
@@magcitrateDon't be afraid of that. Embrace it. I bought '21 at 53 years old HOPING it will outlast me, and I think it will. It's my son's when I'm done
Wish I had the $ to get him his own.
Enjoy it!
I just bought new 2023 4Runner and I’m planning on it out lasting me.
I own a 2022 TRD Off Road Toyota 4Runner, and can verify everything stated in this video as 100% true. Also, the 4Runner handles 4x4 terrain from rocks to sand, and snow super awesome. Our 4Runner is the 6th member of our family.
Agreed. I’ve had a 2023 Off Road Premium for a year. I wasn’t sure if I’d like it bc my wife convinced me sell my 2 door manual Wrangler to get it. But it’s pretty amazing. Good family car, and I can still take it hunting & drive it on the beach to go surf fishing.
@@damnjustassignmeone Hunting for sure! Here in Iowa my 4Runner goes through all types of terrain from paved roads to gravel farmland roads to snow covered everything. Plus it's built extremely solid making it worth the price as compared to other vehicles in the same price bracket.
My 2014 SR5 4WD has 78k miles on it. Drives like new. I took it on long road trips, daily drives and a few easy to medium difficulty trails. It's the best SUV ever built, period.
I’ve been researching and now seeing more and more I don’t really need a pro.. not picking up off roading as a hobby just want to get through snow and to some cool remote camping spots.
Great video as always.
So happy I went with my 5th Gen 4R. Best vehicle I’ve owned.
David, that is a beautiful 4Runner! Of all of the 4Runners that I have owned, and still own, I have always been impressed by the mechanical and structural quality. I take care of my 4Runners, and they take care of me on the road. Reliability is number one to me.
Great vid David, your affection is well founded, well explained and always appreciated.
Hi David,
❤100% agree !! In my opinion, this is one of the best TOYOTA videos ever made. I love your videos when you do the top 10 or top 25 reasons to purchase a vehicle and describe all those reasons with your profound brilliance. Thank you for educating the world on TOYOTA and Lexus, and showing myself my friends and the world your ideas from an objective and subjective view 🇯🇵❤️🤍🇨🇦
I completely 100%agree with everything you stated here in your video 👍👍, I’ve owned two Tacomas and even though I loved them both and the amount of fun I had with them I recently traded in my 2019TRD off road for my first ever 4Runner and I have to say I don’t know why I waited so long to purchase this SUV. Comparing it to the Tacoma isn’t a fair comparison because as great as the Tacoma was with fit and finish the 4Runner definitely surpasses it hands down. This truly will be my forever ride🙌🙌👌👍Toyota for life!
Still driving my 06 V8 Limited GEN 4 and still a tank!
Still got my 4th gen 05’ V8 as well, just hit 250,000 miles and it still rolled lovely, even when I drop the gear to give it some kick occasionally.
I’ve been doing some research and driving some newer 5th gen’s from 2014 - 2021, and found that my 05’ 4th Gen still feels great in comparison. In fact in my research I have come across the 4th gen 4Runner on the market for $7k - $10k.
I too have an 06 with the 4.7 V8. 166,000 miles and going strong!
@@HandgunWorldShow How is your clear coat holding up? I have an 05 V8, wit 138k miles. Car runs great and is FAST AF! Only issue is with my clear coat. .
@@brianl4941 My clear coat is terrible. Peeling and coming off on mirrors and under panels under running boards.
@@HandgunWorldShow Maybe have redone ?
David - I have you to thank for buying my 23 TRD Pro - it’s an amazing ride! I agree with every point you mentioned! As you said I might never need to buy another car in my life! :). Great video! Thank U!!
Your vids were a major factor for me buying my 23 TRD ORP. I love it!
Still driving my 03 4Runner and I’m not planning to sell it. I try to make it to 1 million miles❤
My 2014 Limited has been the best car I've ever owned... Reliable, easy and cheap to fix, practical, and can take you on adventures... Cant beat it. I swear by Toyotas, my 2000 Camry had the same V6 and it lasted me 9 years and was still running with 387k miles on it.. Theyre bullet proof. Take care of your car and itll take care of you..
I just bought my 2024 nautical blue 4Runner on Wednesday and ohhhh my it’s so solid, that truck chassis is the bomb and everything else, love it!,!🙏🏾🌴🇰🇳
I concur with all the reasons. Own a 2021 ORP that now has 40k miles. About 25% offroad here in Colorado. No problems. Avg 18.7 mpg. My favorite car ever.
Excellent, insightful review David/ Thanks. I just bought the exact 2024 4Runner you tested here since I hope to keep it for 10-15 years for sure.
I bought a 2024 4Runner delivered 27 December 2023. It's a beauty.
Congratulations on your new 4Runner. I wish I could afford a new one. My 2011 SR5 premium 195k miles, has been so good to me, she’s been up and down the west coast, to the Midwest and back multiple times. She still drives like new, has never given me a problem ever. Gonna keep her forever but want to get a new one to have.
Excellent review. Thank you. You have definitely sealed the deal for me on which 4Runner is right for me.
Another excellent analysis, David. Thank you.
Great review. Thank you. Keep up the great work!
Bought my 22 Trd Off Road in October of 2023. Only had 44k on it for $38K 😊 I love it! I know this will get the same love the 3rd gens do cuz of its durability and powertrain
I just bought a 23 4runner for almost all the reasons you listed. Good job.
Great info as usual, thanks.
I was thinking about getting one and your video helped. 😊
Thx David ! I am going to keep 5th generation 4Runner for a very long time and might lease the 6th generation down the road . 😊
Thanks for the review 👍👍❤️😀 David.
100 % agree… power train, rear power window and proven reliability.. Can’t be beat! Good honest review David..
Thank you for this overview David. I traded my 2016 SR5 Premium for a 2023 TRD ORP a few months ago. I'm old school and love my 5th Gen for the reasons you stated.
Just got a 2021 4Runner limited 53k miles the last person leased it but watching your videos make me feel like I’ve made the right decision
I love my seven seater SR-5 premium with TRD Pro Wheels and Skid Plate. But I had to upgrade to a TRD Pro in Underground for 24. I’ve owned Toyotas since my new 92 Camry and the 5th Gen 4Runner is my favorite vehicle ever! All the things that you mentioned plus how comfortable it is as a road trip vehicle, that you can take just about anywhere!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge! Because of you and Car Care Nut, I purchased my first new vehicle this year!
2024 4Runner SR5 Premium in Underground. I put on a set of Wildpeak AT4Ws and ready for adventures with the family!
My only regret is not buying one sooner!
Great video. Waiting for my 24 TRD pro in Terra to show up at the dealership. Thank you for the detailed information and I was pleasantly surprised by the panel gaps.
I have a terra Tundra and it's the best color ever in my book ! Enjoy your T4R
Great video, I am really considering getting a 4Runner before the 6th Gen comes out, I like the analog experience of the older models for sure.
Go for it!
Great summary analysis of the 5th Gen 4Runner! Because of your analysis, I did purchase a 5th Gen 4Runner and so far, it's the best riding, most solid Suv that I've had. Not the best acceleration, but very acceptable and better than a BMW X5. Everything thing else about this vehicle is flawless and very tight. Thank you, love your channel! 👍
Great video Dave-very happy with my 2023 40th year 4runner very glade i purchased it over a Tacoma
Notice Tacoma still uses a prop to open hood ..wowsad
David, I really appreciate all of your insight and well-rounded passion for these vehicles. I purchased my very first brand new vehicle (I’m 39) a few days ago; a 2024 4Runner Off Road Premium in Barcelona Red Metallic. I’m entirely satisfied with it and have been most impressed by how utterly comfortable it is to drive.
Glad to help
Thanks for the heads up. I bought a 2019 4R TRD Pro and love it. I'll never sell it. And paid only $45K for it brand new!
Just got mine last week and I am in looooove ❤
Great video!!
Thanks for your expert advice David. I've always wanted to buy a 4 runner
Thank you. I just bought one today to replace my old 4Runner that got totaled :( I love this suv
2017 limited owner and still love it to this day. I will never replace it.
Great analysis as usual
Sold my 5th gen 4Runner and got a 3rd gen tundra platinum. I’ll forever miss my 4Runner
How do you find the full size truck platform compared to the 4Runner? Fuel differences? Driving feel?
@@nicksince9487 Had a 2019 Sr5P 4Runner and now 24 Terra Pro Tundra. Loved the smaller wheelbase on 4Runner but missed open bed of previous 2016 Tundra. Fuel is a little better in Tundra believe it or not and so much more power but the 4Runner has better road feel (non electric turning) and a lot tighter turning radius ! Both great trucks for sure :)
Great video
Absolutely the way to go! Look at all the issues/complaints the new Colorado ZR2, Bronco (to a lesser degree) are having mainly due to an overload of technology. Owned a 2021 4Runner TRD Offroad and zero issues. Currently have a 2022 Tacoma and it's trouble free too. Simple is good. There is currently a large inventory of 2024 4Runners so there are deals out there well under MSRP.
I just bought a 24 4Runner TRD Off-Road. Love it!
Great video. I have bought 3 4Runners. Currently have a 2023 TRD Off Road Premium that I plan to keep a long time. Unless the 6th gen is amazing.
Good Review excellent vehicle. David do you recommend undercoating for the newer models upto 2024 4Runner frame if its driven in areas that use road salt? Or is factory coating good enough.
Great video! What do you recommend for rust protection in Canadian winters to extend its life ?
Own a 2023 TRD ORP in lunar rock. We have it for exactly one year and we love it. Had 3 miles when we bought it, and now have 7K. Runs like a Rolex.
I just purchased a new 2024 Toyota Trd premium and I really do enjoy it traded in my 17 SR5 with 70,000 miles on it and it only cost me $10,000 to own for 6 1/2 years which to me is a steel also new vehicle was really discounted From sticker price over $3600 so it was a no-brainer to trade up and I wanted the last of the Mohicans and like you said I did notice the fit finish and trim on this vehicle is impeccable smoothest paint I’ve ever seen on a factory truck panels joints are very consistent and fit well so great video
Can you share what dealer you purchased at? All my local dealers are asking MSRP or more Thanks.
It’s no question the 2024 4Runner is a great investment it’s probably the only 4X4 you won’t lose any money also he forgot to mention the 4 wheel drive system is the best in the world old style true 4x4. It’s a great safe family vehicle. Great review thank you
I'm still driving my 2008 4Runner SR5 after over 15.5 years and it still looks and drives like new. Nothing has failed. I get 20.1 mpg in the city (2WD) and the seats, paint, and mechanics work like new. I think it might go for another 15 years without problems.
Brilliant. Glad to hear.
I’ll bet it will last another 15 years! I have a 2010 4WD SR5 with 320,000 miles. It just keeps going and my mechanic swears by them… he has a 2003 2WD and we’re in competition for the most miles. He’s only got me by a few thousand.
Great video. Love my ‘22 Limited. Great great vehicle.
Government ruins everything
I literally bought this exact trim and color one week ago. I just retired from the military so this will be my last new vehicle. I’m keeping this 4R till the wheels fall off or until mine do, haha.
I’ve been driving 4Runners since 1992. They are rock solid. Nothing on the market more reliable. Currently own a 2021 Limited Nightshade. Keeping this one. I wish Toyota hadn’t stopped production of the Nightshade. It is awesome & a read head-turner. ❤
I just got a one! What he saying is right on point.
I purchased a 2023 Limited 4x4 with brown leather interior. Coming from a 22 Tundra, this is clearly the one of the best build vehicles ive ever driven.
Loyal to my 3rd Gen (2002) 4Runner. Super reliable, provided you do the regular maintenance. Mine only has 135,000 miles on it but one of my brother has one too, that has 575,000- on the original motor and trans. Not as fancy as the 5th Gen but bulletproof and works for me! I do wish that Toyota would offer a manual transmission. If they did- I would step up and purchase one today......
That’s so cool. Take care of that gem!
i had a 1993 second Gen with 5 speed manual. Was the easiest stick shift to drive!
Enjoying my 2022 4Runner TRD ORP.
Thanks I just got one on your recommendation
This made me break out my caliper and measure the gaps on my 2017 Tacoma they were a mile wide, but I still love her!
Good video thx
So glad I just picked up a CPO 2023 ORP. It’s a tank. Keeping 4ever.
Just bought the same exact model and color as in your video!
Very happy with my 2022 4 Runner Trail Special Edition. Found one in Army Green and it is basically a perfect vehicle. Love the cooler.
Purchased a 2024 Limited 4x4 in Underground - Hopefully get to pick it up in a few days.
Thank you for your revew. The New Engine 4x2.4L vs. 6x4.0L and New transmission 8 VS. 5 gears is a BIG change.😮 Just traded in my 2021 SR5 Premium for 2024 Limited edition. L O V E ❤I T
The interior is the same and simple. I like that flat The School Bus like dashboard appearance without sticking out glued on monitors-panels etc. Just the way I like it! 💥 X-REAS and 15.1 audio systems are AWESOME! 💥 Navy Blue on Brown Leather seats. ❤❤
Picked up a black 24 pro yesterday love it
Midnight black metallic is so beautiful in good lighting
Great video. I was able to get a '23 TRD Off-road premium after waiting several months. It's not the color I'd pick, but I wasn't going to let it go. Now I'm thinking of trading in my wife's car (she likes my 4runner) for a '24 TRD Pro for me. You sold me bro!
Bought a 2024 TRD OR as shown in the video in Solar Octane. So solid. So glad I did not get the new Tacoma as the original plan. Probably will eventually sell my Bronco Squatch but never the 4Runner.
This is my dream SUV !!! 5 th Gen !!!❤❤❤❤
You sure have me thinking , thank you
i drive a 5th gen but love seeing the older gens on the roads as an attest to its reliability.
very informative. i did not know it was built along side Lexus vehicles. the TRD off road has been on my radar. i might for the premium as they are not too much more expensive. i have to wait till next year and the 6th gen SHOULD be out by then just to see.
Guy pulled out in front of my 2000 model 4runner and totaled it according to insurance, definitely preferred my 3rd gen, but I am absolutely enjoying my 2024 5th gen ORP!
It is a proven package, engine was first introduced over 20 years ago, almost same for transmission, they definitely have had time to work the bugs out
Great video from an Engineer’s view point..So glad I got a 2024 4 Runner TRD Off Road Premium before they disappear…I would've got a Pro..but not available..all versions seem to be selling..in the nyc metro they’re adding 6k + to the Pro versions..
This video sold me. David, do you have a favorite trim for the 5th gen? Thank you so much for making videos like this!
This video makes me feel so good about my 4runner. 😂 Love it!
I bought a 23 OR and plan to keep it for awhile. 27k miles and zero issues.
Still have our 2014 4Runner Trail (rear locker, crawl control). 153K miles 3" lift, winch, roof rack, dual batteries, 33" tires, set up for Overlanding. Works well for now. Old tank, heavy, terrible fuel economy...looking forward to the 2025. Will probably get the Land Cruiser.
80k … not worth it
The prices are stupid expensive. Hope we can find one in the 60's...guess we'll see.
Still driving my Toyota wild Runner 2000. Twenty four years of an extraordinary work
Had a 2016 Trail Edition for 8 years, recently got a 2023 Off-road Premium to be sure I have a 5th gen for as long as possible. Not interested in turbo hybrid BS. Love my 4Runner…best car I’ve ever owned.
My brother has a 2018 he bought new. 78,000 trouble free miles so far.
David, in your experience, how does the 4Runner compare to a Prado GX with the 4.0 V6?
