"Not the right words" = when the lyrics were still being developed for the Broadway version in the 80s. Watch Michael Crawford's "Music of the Night" and there lyrics are different there as well. Anyway, these songs will last forever. So beautiful.
@karoneprincess1 Yes, it is indeed Sarah Brightman. However, it is not Micheal Crawford that sings with her, it is Steve Harley from the 1970's rock group Cockney Rebel. This version of the song was a promotional single. Steve was set to star as the Phantom in the London premiere of The Phantom of the Opera, but was replaced close to the beginning of rehearsals by Micheal Crawford.
@sashamommy oddly enough, he was only supose to do the video, they used him cause he was well known in pop music, and they used pop music videos to promote the show. This was such a hit, they went ahead using him in the show, but long before they realized his voice wasnt strong enough. Sarah went backstage of a show michael was doing and heard him doing scales and recognized the potential. She called andrew right away and the rest is history.
@StripedTerror521 Yes. This is probably what the phantom was thinking, "Fear me! I have a butter knife! I'm going to cut down this 3 ton chandelier!" (7 years later) "I've got one more thread....."
Steve Harley was supposed to play as Phantom before Michael Crawford got the part as it turned more operatic than rock, which wasn't suitable for Steve's voice!
Danger is enchanting. Why is it fun to pet a tiger? It's exciting. Hes also not fully human to her... she considers him an angel sent from her dead father. She misses her father....and girls like bad boys and always have for the most part.
WOW..this is the BEST version EVER!!! I am fall in love with the song and the two amazing voices no matter how many times after listened to the song. Are the two people in here Sarah Brightman and Michael Crawford? Please tell me. I really want to know. I am really truly admired and loved their wonderful voices. On the guy part, he in here is the best voice for Phantom. He sings with so passion. I can feel his pain. Thanks a lot for uploading!!!
the music and singing is AWESOME!! However that is the FUNNIEST looking phantom i have ever seen. The lyrics seem to be different then the version i know and love.

I love the hardcore 80's feel to this video!
..what a great voice they have..a beautiful song
Thanks musical genius Andrew LIoyd Webber!!!!!!!!!!!
The Phantom of the Opera is always inside my mind!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
sarah brightman is really angel of the musi!!!
Is it ok that I almost cried tears of pain when this phantom started singing?
I still think Brightman and Crawford's version is best. They should've made a video for it too >.

No words to describe the weirdness to the Phantom's voice in this video.
I was a child in the 80´s and loved this Song. Now i have the Video, god save the Internet!
The rhythm is just so good
You cannot deny that Steve Harley has some range!
Believe it or not this was a promotional video. Steve Harley was the original phantom but was fired and replaced with Michael Crawford
@sashamommy oddly enough, he was only supose to do the video, they used him cause he was well known in pop music, and they used pop music videos to promote the show. @Kotaroproductions The reason she doesn't blink is because the Phantom has in a trance like state. Would you blink if you was hypnotized?
This is what I call original!
Yes and I think they changed to the lyrics we know now during development.
my gosh i used to watch this video all the time when i was younger we had it on a vhs haha
Raoul's mullet= epic.
Creepy but I loved it when the chandelier fell onto Raoul... and his hair.
@StripedTerror521 Yes. This is probably what the phantom was thinking, "Fear me! I have a butter knife! I'm going to cut down this 3 ton chandelier!" (7 years later) "I've got one more thread....."
the way christine look at me.. *shivers*
what was that?! OMG! Both of them are terrific :O
Simply classic!
wow!
Why does Raoul have a blonde squirrel on his head?
And thank God for Crawford.
That mask makes Phantom look cross-eyed
..and let the nightmares begin
Music class, my teacher gives us 3 songs. First two bored me all the way out. Then when this came, I was expecting the same, but much better.
Sarah's expressions kind of reminds me of Taylor Swift. Slightly disturbing, the way she doesn't blink. But her voice is still GRAAAAND~
if she is scared of him and want to hide from him then why do u go to him enyway?
it is steve harley from the band cockney rebel
Sarah is so young here!
Eh? Cleopatra Daae?!
Thank GOD that they found Michael Crawford!
Let me tell you a hint: Andrew Lloyd Webber produced POTO with Sarah Brightman, his wife at the time, as Christine.
Steve Harley was supposed to play as Phantom before Michael Crawford got the part as it turned more operatic than rock, which wasn't suitable for Steve's voice!
Is it strange of me to think that Christine looks more creepy than the phantom?
Anthony Warlow in Melbourne Australia was the best of them all!!!
Danger is enchanting. Why is it fun to pet a tiger? It's exciting. Hes also not fully human to her... she considers him an angel sent from her dead father. She misses her father....and girls like bad boys and always have for the most part.
4:03 XD
-star laughing-
"what heck"
Gotta love the lion mask :D
Were these the original lyrics? When did they change?
try to have a stare contest with sarah it hard!
I actually like this.
O.o

@Gundogdu92
Yes I agree but it still sound very good and powerful :P
Jesus!!!!
You're not phantom!
wake up, Christine!!
LOL! Is it just me, or does the Phantom sound like he has a Southern accent at 1:11?
@Kotaroproductions her eyes are like that the whole thing every time on camera!!!
Ok what's with the phantom in this movie
oh Phantom of the Opera, the song of Team Bulgaria at the Olympics games :DD
I kind of like the lyrics in this version a little bit better than the 2004 version.
This song is actually more accurate to the book since Christine did not live at the Opera house.
Raoul isn't supposed to die!
Andrew Loyd Webber wrote the musical, based on a book by Gaston Leroux.
So the music are made by Andrew :o)

i like the original version better, though this music video's not bad at all. but the Phantom in this one sounds more like a tenor
strangest clip ever.. but love the song :D
She.. has some scary eyes.. xD
No affence but the phantom sounds like he has a cold when he is singing
I like their voices much better than ones of the newest version )
3/4 of me says: that was awful. I'm extremely dissatisfied/disappointed with Webber.
1/4 of me says: it's so awful its genius! And it is really funny
@Kotaroproductions hey, i think she blinked twice in that entire video...... seriously, i was counting.
I'm sorry but the phantom looks like he's having a constant stroke. XD
@egoeater they made this before they changed the lyrics and made it better. I promise
i saw her blink
I just
pissed myself while laughing.
WHAT THE HAY!!!!????!?!?!? 1:11
Oh Raoul...that mullet.
the 2004 one.. the phantom accompany christine to this 'secret' place and this one she gone there by her own will
..what a great voice...
@ChloisMikayla09 yeah he just doesnt have the passion that micheal does...
3:05 :-D
And sometimes Sarah sounds like she's trying to do a Yoshi Impression...........
awesome. Someone please teach her how to blink. Please?
the music and singing is AWESOME!! However that is the FUNNIEST looking phantom i have ever seen. The lyrics seem to be different then the version i know and love.
if they were.. similar to that of the original music of the night im assuming before the original production
@TheGodKingOfMusic This is the original. he relesed this as a demo before the play was finished.
@cho20014 I am agree with you.
hahahahahhaahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha *eternal laughter*
@PhoenixGaruda516

@Kotaroproductions isn't that the point?
The face is so scary 2:13
@ sukalkuma Me to ! That was before I knew about Sarah brightman
@capsuleboy I'm not sure if Andrew Lloyd Weber wrote it originally or not, but he DEFINITELY made it famous...
I feel like I just watched the Phantom of the Labyrinth...
@Kotaroproductions i saw her blink.

Its Erik
Why "Ghost"? I'm curious.
