I have watched serveral duet couple of this song from 1986 to 2022 and I love them all, but there is still something quite special about Steve Barton and Sarah Brightman. I know this is the original one so everybody know that, but the way they act, the word they sang just seem distinctive. Barton's voice was so warm, sent tears to my eyes everytime, and Sarah too, the way they powerfully sang "ANYWHERE YOU GO, LET ME GO TOO" is pure eargasm for me. Forever love you Steve Barton, Rest in peace.
WOW WOW WOW ! After hearing Steve Barton, this is the only thing I could say. What fantastic, warming, sexy and passionate voice. Steve passed away and it is a great loss. This is the best Raoul of all time, 35 years after.
His voice is so beautiful. I'm mesmerised. I've waatched and listened to so many version of Phantom, but no Raoul had a voice as beautiful as his. So soft, so warm, so perfect.
Steve Barton I just realized remember him being family history books documentary about biography book of Life in magazine and pay attention past life look back

Nothing will ever beat the deep, warm silk that is Steve Barton's voice wrapping around Christine .. his Raoul will keep her the safest for eternity RIP 💞
Mr Barton and Ms Brightman seem to have brought out the best in each other. There performance is magical. I'm so glad it lives on in my mind and thankful for TH-cam.
The Greatest Phantom I ever saw was Steve Barton. And yes I saw Crawford. Barton was such a once in a lifetime talent. And as the Phantom he was epic. How tragic he left us so soon. Rest in peace Steve.
Oh, my poor Steve Barton. I miss him, even though I never met him or saw him, for some reason, I feel like I can say that and it's appropriate. His voice is so soothing and comforting. No one ever talks about him, not even in the specials, not sure why. I even named my Dragonite 'Barton' after him. . . well, that and because in the original episodes of the anime, it sounds like it's saying 'Bart, bart!', but I digress. . .
@@noeleenmurphy7901 Barton had, in the last years of his life, been battling with alcoholism and addiction to painkillers following chronic knee problems. He was found dead at his apartment in Bremen, Germany on July 21, 2001, aged 47. While his death was initially attributed to heart failure, according to obituary information released by the press office for the New York production of The Phantom of the Opera, it was later ruled a suicide by the district attorney in Bremen after an empty bottle of prescription heart medication was found at the scene. 😢
I had the pleasure and honor of working with Steve briefly on a Bway show that didn’t last long (The Red Shoes). He was a wonder and kind person as well as being incredibly talented... I was so saddened by his death.
Steve, Michael, Sarah Golden Trio and my fav cast in Phantom of the opera even though I wasn't born at that time and can enjoy them only thanks to these videos. :)

Steve Barton-greatly missed. As I remembered it the first time I saw it on Broadway. Phantom still going strong at the Majestic theater after all these years!
Steve Barton manages to do the impossible, makes me actually LIKE Raoul lol. What can I say, I am a Phantom girl but SB and that beautiful warm voice is absolutely swoonworthy. Rest in Peace, Steve.

@Jeremy Bode They're both baritones. They're the angel and the devil on the shoulder of Christine. There's nothing to indicate the Phantom is a tenor...There's a reason ALW wrote the music like he did..
Probably when Phantom stopped being played by tenors. Personally I think they should both be baritones or bari-tenors with contrasting vocal timbres. I think Raoul could have a very light, young baritone voice and Phantom have a very powerful, dark one OR the Phantom could have a very light, ghostly baritone voice and Raoul a warm, rich, crooning one.
Sarah sounds so much better live than on the cast recording. The recording makes it sound like her vowels are wide and she has something caught in her throat, she sounds so much smoother live
