    The so-called Reconquista (a term coined long after the fact) was in fact a Christian Crusade rather than a purely Spanish phenomenon. Participants included French and German as well as Spanish Christian troops. When Muslim territories were conquered, Christian settlers from northern Spain, France, and German were brought in to aid in the Christianization of these territories.

Being myself at times forces to hide my own faith to avoid banter and discrimination in Scandinavia. In this digital age it is everywhere and finds a way to clutter our souls. Having us Muslims believe in the hatred that is delivered and protected by the west by freedom of speech. However anything close to critical towards Jews or Jewish nation Israel is labelled antisemitism and not accepted in newspapers. May allah guide us all. Salam Alaykum, Sheikh Adnan!
    It was not only Spain but also Portugal was part of the Caliphate. In portuguese we have around 1000 words from arabic origin. In spanish are 4000 words and you can see clearly in the spanish masculine definitive article "el" (such as: "el niño" = the kid), that comes from arabic "alif, lam", "al" and "el" in North Africa. Several cities in Portugal have names of Arab Muslim origin, there are more than 70. The city of Fátima, for example, has this name to honor the daughter of the prophet. The muslim in Portugal were called "mouros".

      Right on spot I am Portuguese Muslim revert but certain historical facts they don't teach in school.

    • @U20007
      @U20007 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Miguel99171 Around 2015, a law came into Portugal granting portuguese nationality to those people who proved to be descendants of Jews expelled from Portugal during the Inquisition of the Catholic Church (1536), as a means of repairing the damage caused to their ancestors who were expelled from portuguese territory or who were forced to convert to Christianity in order to remain in Portugal. The curious thing is that the Inquisition was created to expel the Muslims (Moors) from Portugal, who dominated the Iberian Peninsula (Portugal and Spain) for almost 800 years (711 to 1492 AD). Muslims had to convert to Christianity if they wanted to remain. As a result, the minority of Jews, who lived under the protection of the Caliphate, also had to follow the same footsteps as the Muslims. It is the practice of Jews to improperly appropriate historical facts, placing themselves as the only and main characters, directing the consequences of historical factors in their favor. That 2015 law did not contemplate muslims who wanted to prove that they are descendants of Muslims expelled in the Inquisition. Who knows why! Which generated a lot of indignation and protests from the Islamic Community of Lisbon and all over Portugal. Soon the Muslims, the true and main characters of this historical fact, were left out of this historical reparation.

    Jazakumullahu khairan this was great. You gave a great overview and even covered the Oran fatwa!
    A kind correction, it was the Goths that sacked Rome, not the Vandals.
    In Spanish Mudejar is pronounced Mudehar and Aljamiado as Alhamiado.
    Talking about Alhamiado which is writing Spanish with adapted Arabic script, this certainly provided protection for Morisco's activities from their ignorant prosecutors but in essence aljamiado literature is from the time of the muslim rule and we have similar processes in many places like Bosnia for example or even the Persians write in a sort of aljamiado. Muslims felt the Arabic script special and very close to their hearts.

      Vous êtes un véritable menteur , Al Andalous a disparu il y à 8 siècles . Donné vos preuves ???
      Vos ancêtres sont venus D'AFRIQUE, pour occupé L'HISPANIA CHRÉTIENNE et imposé par l'épée Al Andalous pays imaginé par les musulmans voleurs de terre Chrétienne.
      La venue de vos ancêtres ont apporté sur la péninsule IBÉRIQUE 781 année de Guerre, de l'esclavagisme sexuelle, descrimination des Ibériques chrétiens vol des richesses, etc etc .
      Andalus c'était un pays de voleurs des terres CHRÉTIENNES EUROPÉENNE.
      Si vos ancêtres ne seraient pas venu , ont aurait évité tous ces drames de guerres et expulsion des musulmans. Alors maintenant arrêté de pleuré d'une terre que vos ancêtres ont volé au nom de Allah

    Look at the Qadr of Allah. The Muslims being forced to convert and seeing the Qurans being burnt in Granada would’ve thought that this may well be the end of Islam. And look how Islam kept spreading and reaches inside every home today.

    In some cases Christian dhimmis suffered martyrdom for their beliefs. Sometimes they revolted against Muslim hegemony. Sometimes they formed alliances with rebel muladis or helped the Christians of the Reconquista (provoking expulsions, such as those under Almoravids and Almohads). Indeed, there was a long history of muladi insurrection in Islamic Spain. Although the inferior social status of the muladis was probably the main cause of their discontent, some of the unrest among the muladi population probably stemmed from the fact that at least some conversions to Islam would have been insincere. When the only options were exile, forced submission, or conversion, some Christians surely pretended to convert but continued to practice Christianity in secret as crypto-Catholics. As we will see shortly, in the ninth century the rebel Umar Ibn Hafsun was supported by both muladis and Christian dhimmis in his decades-long resistance to Umayyad rule, and he seems to have died as a Christian. And in a bloody episode in the mid-ninth century, the “martyrs of Córdoba” included muladis who publicly renounced Islam or confessed that they had been crypto-Catholics all along. Even sincere conversion did not ensure equality for muladis. Arabs were at the top of the social scale, with Berbers in the middle, followed by freed white Muslim slaves who had become mawali; the muladis, further divided into first-generation converts and the rest, occupied a lower echelon, above only that of dhimmis and slaves. Naturally, muladis were not happy with their condition as third- or fourth-class Muslims. Not surprisingly, the muladis-“mixed ones”-earned another Arabic label: al-adhall, or “vile rabble.”87

      @@A.--. you can get portuguese and Spanish books written about Al andalus, truth is there is nothing called reconquista (reconquest) because the spaniards the native people of the iberian penisula were majority muslims but those crusaders were in majority from North europe so when the Christians claim they took back their land its a joke actually the founders of modern day spain and portugal were actually French and german immigrants.
