      ballzasspower Well said. This, like his other "reviews" are light years beyond any other shows on YT or TV. If you want to be entertained, watch Grand Tour. If you are a true car enthusiast want to really learn about a car, nobody covers a car like this guy. The research is very in depth, and the film production is at such a high level.

    as a 350 track package owner I have to agree with pretty much everything you've said. Initially I was somewhat disappointed to not be able to get an R but after you sit down and work out the numbers and factor in I was able to my 350 at sticker and that's impossible with an R. I disagree on oil as the only oil I believe meets Ford's specs for the 350 outside of the Motorcraft is Amsoil. The interior honestly doesn't bother me. I would like sync 3 but that wasn't an option for me on a 16. The 17 owners won't have to worry about that issue. Overall one of the better reviews I've watched on the car. Also as far as the base R's are by far the rarest as most have the electronics package.

    • @savagegeese
      @savagegeese  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Glad you enjoyed it and yes while the R seems good on paper the mark up makes no sense. And you easily take the best things from the R (wheels aside) and make the 350 the same. I don't know too many people who run OEM oil for track use on any car until you get into higher end cars. But in all fairness I went off the fact that motorcraft oil tends to lose its viscosity rating faster the hotter it gets compared to redline, Ams etc. But truthfully I did not go looking for VOAs and UOAs from the 350 Motor yet.
      I would buy the R as the base, what about you?

    • @DonkeyEvo
      @DonkeyEvo 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +savagegeese I would buy an R as a base, simply for the collectibility aspect. Having the track package car I've already adjusted to not using a radio. The a/c would be the hardest to live without for street use. I honestly feel that if functionality is what someone is after then the track package or base 2017 will suit your needs perfectly. If more tire is needed then buy a set of forgeline ga1r's (within 2lbs of the R carbon wheels) and some R compound rubber. You can always add the aero bits and front springs if you so desired. A company is already working on tuning the magnaride to cater to adjustments made to suspension components/tires etc. I agree 100% on panel fit and finish and have to have my drivers door adjusted as it is identical to the R in this video. I also found a couple of small paint imperfections that I will have addressed. I don't have any rattles to speak of currently nor does a friend who has a 350.. however I expect that they will come and I will try to handle those as the develop. At the end of the day I feel like the car is impossible to match for the money and am very pleased with it.

  • @bobohara3974
    @bobohara3974 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice video! Helped me confirm why I won't buy a GT350R. Most people who track from time to time still mostly need a good GT car. I don't see this as a good GT car at least for me, you don't need those wheels or the sticky tires, don't need the extra cost, and don't need "less for more". Why? To go 5 seconds faster around your local track? That's just ego. The regular GT350 with the track pack is the right choice for me and likely 90 percent of the typical buyers. However I would not even buy the GT350 in the current inflated price state.

    Man this guy is super negative…panel gap this, orange peel that. The GT350 R is NOT inexpensive. However, if any European manufacturer built a car that performed this well, it would cost $120k instead of $70k. Oh yeah, you can purchase this performance from a European manufacture, the Porsche 911 Carrera S will give you similar track times and cost well over 6 figures. This is a lot of car for $70k sir. Would you prefer Ford clean up those tiny imperfections and ask $120k for this car? Be sure they could and they would still sell them all. Let’s celebrate how great this car is. Let’s celebrate American efficiency, enabling Ford to sell this monster for $70k. Nobody is buying this car concerned about a panel gap JACK

    • @savagegeese

      It shows lack of commitment to QA, something Ford as a company should be more concerned about on a "flagship" sports car. Its plain laziness, period.

One becomes so used to a standard car review on You Tube that it’s such a pleasure to watch the talent you bring to this product. You covered every aspect of this car from front to back top to bottom the good and the not so good along with what could have been. Your track experience compared to daily street drive was an interesting comparison including the tire ware segment. Truly enjoyed your work and was well educated on the GT 350.

    I daily drive a Porsche 997S and wanted to add something more exciting for the track/weekend. Picked up a 2016 GT350 Track Pack last January, over 9,000 miles already. Immense machine, highly capable, beautiful lines, and incredible performance. The Flat Plane Crank engine is the icing on the cake. The Shelby GT350 is among the greatest sport coupes made in the last 25 years. If you have the means I highly suggest it.

      I've been asked this before and it's very difficult for me to decide as I've had the Porsche for 7 years and driven across the United States and back in it. The GT350 gets my pick for the track and excitement, the Porsche gets my pick for a sporty daily driver. Entirely different driving dynamics, they make a great pair, would suck to lose either.

      Youre not serious are you..? That thing is a boat anchor. Its over powered with a huge heat machine on top of it and it steers like a 6 wheeled wagon. Even in a straight line its about useless, unless you put slicks on it. Even then it doesnt make a good drag car. And if you want to know they really arent that fast. I played with one out on the local freeway and couple years back My bike by no means is a rocket. The new 1 liter super bikes have to lift and wait for me to catch up. Mine is 132hp @ the wheel, and the GT 500 was in my way as we jumped on it and I was planing on following him through traffic. I lifted, paused, and then drilled 3rd gear from about a 90mph roll and that was the last I saw of him. So those for the most part are a car that did its job. Its all smoke and mirrors to get guys like you to think they great. When in fact they are not. And fyi Im a ford guy top to bottom

    This is hands down the best review I've seen on this amazing car. Just an absolutely fantastic job. When the big boys come knocking on your door, resist the temptation to change your format to something they suggest. You've nailed it.
    In Canada, the GT350R is just under 90g's CAN MSRP, but it's the same up here with dealer mark ups and they typically go for 120 grand or so. I love it but I guess I'll be waiting several years before I can afford even a nicely used one.

    I believe this is a 2016 R model? The base 2016 GT350 didnt even come with MagneRide but or the added coolers. The 2017+ GT350 has all the R parts (MagneRide, coolers etc) minus the carbon fiber wheels, rear spoiler, and Cup 2's. It's one of the reasons why 2017+ models are sought after vs base 2016's. Also make sure the car has the new motor/fix if you're searching for a used one.

    Actually those alum hubs are that way because they do not want the same problem they had with the Cobra R at the track. The hub assembly would flex, then a bump during a corner while on the brakes(?) - BOOM!
    Blown brake rotors yet everyone wanted to blame Brembo. Yeah steering feel is the generic answer but that lack of rigidity meant the new track focused Mustang needed to be much better. The flexing hub was a huge problem that Brembo identified and Ford had a big problem taking responsibility for - lesson learned .
    Good walkaround on the car.

    For anyone considering an R, I've got 6000 miles on my 2016 R. I drive the shit out of it every day, track the snot out of it and it's every bit as good as he says it is. I track it regularly and now I can die happy. I'd like to say that the reason the presenter was getting so much tram lining is the alignment settings are notoriously off from the factory. I got mine aligned and it tracks straight as an arrow at the expense of slightly diminished turn in. Too much tow out from the factory and no camber.. so CC plates/alignment are an essential first modification. I'm on my original cup 2 tires from ford w 6000 miles, 3 track days and they're still good in the rear, they even a few light burnouts in them.(I know.. not driving fast enough) Fronts needed replaced at 1000 miles because of the FUBAR factory alignment settings. The tires are sticky and kick up rocks so paint pro film is essential. The seats are tight at first but the bolsters relax and become very comfortable (now I know why Recaros cost so much). Even with the ADMs that the dealerships are asking I think the car is worth it, I paid 92, cash, out the door for mine and I don't regret it one fuckin' bit. "This car is fucking insane."

      @savagegeese  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +GunfightersINC Thats really good to hear you love it. Special car for sure. I really wished manufacturer had adjustable camber from factory it is so annoying to have to go and modify a car just to get a good alignment. Keep me updated on your ownership.

    • @GunfightersINC
      @GunfightersINC 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree completely, it's absurd that a car this track focused doesn't have alignment adjustments from the factory ..*coughMIATAcough*. But, once you get it sorted this car is an animal. Thank you for such great content as this is, hands down, the best GT350R review online. Drive safe.

    I like how you say it's an affordable sports car. But over here in Australia 2 yrs later they are trying to sell the 2016 etc for $220k. The price of a small apartment. They do sit on the car sales sites forever mind you. There are some dreamers out there. If I bought one of these I would buy another set of wheels for road use. Of Course, if I owned one of these I would have a garage full of cars I could use as daily drivers.

    As a Mustang owner for the last 25 years (several along the way), I’ve probably bought my last one. After being offered a GT350 for $25,000 over sticker, I decided that the Mustang has moved up market and now I shall hold it to a higher standard.
    I have had as much fun if not more with the Jaguar F Type R. As a side effect of moving up market myself, I have discovered the benefit of much better fit and finish. With the F Type, the exhaust is just as obnoxious, or not, with the flick of a switch. Plus it looks amazing.
    I get that Ford was trying to build an awesome track car, but for the price the Cayman GT4 is within reach.

    GT350 can still improve, buy why don't ford do it? Well, let me tell you. why. Because it's Ford. For the last few years, Ford's business strategy had change so much. Just look at the Ford GT and the full line of Ecoboost engine. While Ford began to focus on the world market, Chevrolet and Dodge still live in the past. Back in 2012, Boss 302 was deemed the the best American sport car. Then the competition began... Z28, Hellcat, Ford was beat to the bottom and Boss 302 became a joke. But the truth is that the S197 Mustang still has so much potential that Boss 302 is simply a semi-finished product. You would believe how fast the Boss 302 become with better suspension setups and tires. Now, after the Ford released the GT350, we got to know that Boss 302 was just a project that Ford tested before's GT350's R&D. The final product is simply amazing. With above average brake and Cup 2 tires, GT350R beat the Z28, which has the overkill carbon ceramic brake and the best R-comp tires Trofeo R. I heard that Z28's tires and brakes are so powerfull that tires will spin around the wheel at full brake. At this gen, GT350 is just too good to compare with, and of course Ford won't waste money on upgrading the car until the next Z28 come out. And that my friends, it's why. At the end of the day, it's hard to justify Ford's strategy. It broke lots of Mustang fans' heart. The GT350 is ridiculously over price by the market. With 100-130 grands, most people rather buy 2 z28 or a corvette. It's true lol, I know a friend who bought a used C7 Z06 because the Ford dealer won't agree to sell their GT350 for 90 grands......

    I'm glad you touched on all the quality issues and didn't just focus on the amazing performance/engine/sweet Tremec/that exhaust note and the killer looks as so many reviewers do. It's no secret the formula Ford used to bring a world class performer to market at this price, they cut corners/cost everywhere that does not affect performance. While the interior materials are very poor I do think the ergonomics are excellent as is the Sync 3 although I'm surprised you didn't mention the blasphemy of having "Sync" stamped into the bezel of the shiftier instead of "Tremec".

      Most guys are getting a minimum of 10k miles out of these with a correct alignment.
      I use both the Cup 2’s and Hoosier R8’s on the track and the R8 tires out perform the Cup 2’s very time!! Softer and more sticky compound.
