I made one! I did an extra step that adds a measure of confidence- I drilled the PVC - first a pilot hole using the hole in the butt end of the maglight as a guide, about four inches up the pipe - then a slightly larger through hole, and after taping and inserting the flashlight I threaded a small zip-tie through the pipe and the little hole on the back of the flashlight inside the tube- 100% prevention for the light from ever sliding out. My beam was all over the place and I wasn't hinging well - nice optical feedback! Will see what happens from here.
Honestly I made this training aid, and all I can say is a huge thanks!! It’s the best tool I have ever used, improved my game to the max, swinging so much better now, a massive thanks 🙏🏻
Having similar results myself …this “idea“ created with the pvc& lights along with keeping elbows in and rolling arms down with wrist(left wrist ) sort of closed ( closed meaning fingers closer to inside of wrist like arm wrestling move)through contact has stopped my insane slice and or snap hook/topped type strikes ….its really hard to overcome my 34 yr old bad swing and i havent mastered it by any means yet …but using this as a gauge /starting point i dont need to carry 5-10 different swing thoughts at address.which when adjusting i can just slightly tweak 1 thing at a time with little thought ,decide if its the way to go or not and find “my swing “ (correct swing) quite a bit faster ..right now its a matter of weakening my grip back from my crazy strong grip ive developed over the years… which is another new feeling to overcome/get ingrained which is clumsy at the moment ,but so far has made overall dramatic improvement quicker …for me this is huge
A golf "light saber." That's genius Ed. Flashlights ordered, and I already have 3/4 / 40 PVC and elect tape in the garage. Thanks for this tip Ed. I think you're right... This has got to be the greatest golf training aid ever!
Put the lightstick together this AM. Instantly can see the difference between my current swing, and what a proper golf swing needs to be. Thanks Ed and Patrick for giving us old duffers a great tool to help improve our swing!@@TheGolfSensei
I made this training aid a few weeks ago "WOW" how much it made a difference in my last two games, You are the only golf instructor i now subscribe to. Deleted all the rest. It was a bit more expensive to purchase the Maglite in Australia $40 each light But so worth every cent. Every night i walk past it i have a little swing. Being a long time golfer but taken it up again now in my sixtys, i wish i came across this 30 years ago. Thank you for all videos Keep them coming Frank from Australia 🇦🇺
I am new at golf. I have taken more classes than what I like to accept and still could not get it. I made this gadget and cannot thank you enough! What a game changer!! I have improved tremendously! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!
Made one for me and my niece and nephew. Hadn’t had much luck with consistency when trying to teach the basics to them. Both kids told me that this aid actually makes sense how the golf swing works
I made my own training aid for under 5 dollars. I went to dollar store purchased two flashlights, batteries and a pool noodle. I cut the pool noodle to about 35 inches. Took the flashlight and put it in the hole at the end of the noodle and another flashlight at the other end. It is not as sturdy but you get the idea of how to swing. Also grabbing it is thicker than a golf club but it serves my purpose. I had the best round of my life by using this aid. I used it for drives, irons, and chipping. Thank you so much for this video!!
Your training aid is the simplest application of logic and example I've ever seen in teaching the golf swing. I just ordered the parts to make one for myself. No hesitation. The guy demonstrating the golf swing looked like a PRO while using the aid. I can affirm value when I see it. Just unbelievable!! Thank You!
Aren't you so happy you never gave up. Watched numerous videos, took many lesson, bought many training aids and this video has helped me the most. I love golf now because I understand it. I feel good that I searched and searched and found my answer.
Best training aid I’ve ever used hands down and it’s not even close. This device is pure genius. Not only is it easy to use you get instant feedback! Absolutely brilliant
Just happen to have every part I need and its already built. I used 3/4 SCH 80 electrical and it takes one wrap of tape. You have the best Channel on You Tube.
nice to see a fellow coach teaching this concept .. been teaching with flashlights and lasers for plane etc for 30 years ... even taken students off the range to a dark room using the edge of a carpet to teach / demo this drill … kudos 👊
Brilliant !!! Man oh man I love this channel ! I’ve watched thousands of hours of golf “ instruction “ on TH-cam and these tips are the only ones that have worked for me. Thank you thank you thank you !
I absolutely loved this video and your presentation. I'm a firm if not obsessive believer that building the correct/perfect plane will also build the perfect swing motion and resulting clubhead path. Your light sabre is absolutely perfect for teaching players how to move every body part or muscle group correctly through the entire swing motion matrix. You truly are a Jedi golf master and I thank you for showing me how to make it and use it. It's the capstone that holds the entire "build the plane, build the swing" method or philosophy if you like, together! Thanks again.
Came across your channel by fluke Ed . You’re my new YOU TUBE golf coach as of yesterday. Loved the video . GENIUS ! Just built mine and started using it tonight in the house .Finally a training aid I can use inside my house with the 8’ ceilings . For some of you folks I found a couple new Mini Maglites on Marketplace that helped with the cost . And I see Grainger in Canada stocks them at a reasonable price . Going to make a smaller one for my 5 year old grandson to practice in his house . .
You weren't lying about the Maglites being hard to find. I ran to every hardware store in town with no luck. Thanks for having the Amazon link in the description!
Ive made 4 of these for friends and family golfers since your video. The 2 rounds I’ve played while visualizing the light from practicing with this were very encouraging. Hitting it farther and more accurate! Thanks
I love this me and my daughter, made it at home and it was amazing, It lets you practice in winter and the dark. The overall design is great , And it's quick and easy to make, not expensive. Thank you so much For sharing this it's so helpful
I live in North Wales UK and I wanted to thank you for sharing all your knowledge. It has helped me greatly and I really appreciate your help. I have made and used this training aid and my swing has greatly improved. Best wishes to you and Patrick
Wow what a brilliant training aid, it gives me instant feedback. I am trying to teach my 11 year old grandson and I am definitely making it for him . Thanks a lot, and have a happy new year from Mick in the UK
I want to thank you for making this video, as my wife and i are about to have our first child and i will have to do most of my training indoors for the next few months. You've earned a new subscriber and fan!
I got 2 maglites from Facebook for £15 and will get the pipe asap. This video and the one on not flipping your hands, and hitting draws and everything else is just full of lightbulb moments. You guys seem so cool and we appreciate you bringing it to us thx from England
Love this video and training aid! Simple do it yourself training aid that actually works perfectly every time showing you what you are doing wrong! Thanks very much!
Thank you so much for instilling in me the love of golf. I actually have fun when I play and can keep up with the others in my group. You are truly remarkable.
Our family really enjoys traveling and discovering the St. Lawrence River, Ontario and Quebec. Over the years, we have discovered historic places, seen whales and magnificent landscapes and... this week, we stopped at an old fashion ice cream stop. Stunning. A classic road trip. Behind there was a mini put. Okay, even better. And further, a driving range. With difficulty and misery, my boy convinced us to try. And here we are, the whole family in crocs and pajamas, driving balls for the first time in our lives. Despite the beauties that the river has offered us, the gulf remains our most beautiful discovery to date. The majority of our budget always remains in adventures so a training aid like this is probably the best investment. Thank you very much. Mark
I didn't actually make one of these, but I imagined the butt of my club illuminating the line, and it really made a big difference for me. I hit driver twice at my local short course and they felt effortless and went straight down the fairway, but about 40 yards farther than I normally hit.
Love this aid as I'm a 10 handicapper and sometimes overswing and come over the top. This helps me with muscle memory and sends my swing down the target line. I made a modification to mine as I wanted to make a full swing. I used a hacksaw to cut a 1-1/4 inch slit with a V shape down the middle of the PVC on both sides. Put the electrical tape on the flashlight as in the video and placed it in the PVC. Then, used a zip tie to act as a clamp to hold the flashlight in on the bottom of the shaft. Make sure the zip tie is very tight and towards the end of the PVC shaft. You can use a hose clamp or spring clamp instead of the zip tie. Now I can swing away.
Hi there, I have just made one of your laser light training aids and just as you said on the backswing my light was pointing way over the golf ball almost on the far wall. So i am training to find the right plane. I am looking forward to using it regularly to improve my swingplane
Thank you. Any one who has never been sure about staying on plane or even what or where is the correct plane, not knowing for sure, am I too shallow or too steep, am I coming over the top or any fault, your worries are over. This training aid ranks up there with sliced bread. I constructed mine with 1/2" sch 40 PVC using Mini Mag lights with 2 each AAA battery's , (smaller diameter butt end) electricians friction tape, and a gripped end to simulate a regular shafted club by using tennis racket grip wrap (very thin) all from "Lowes" where they sell the pipe in a shorter than 10' length.
You can actually add a thin piece of tape across the flashlight itself to represent the face as well. That's the way I'm going to construct mine. Thank you so much this is an awesome idea!
I made one for 9 dollars all in using laser heads and a wooden dowel. I drilled out a hole for two AA batteries, wired them in series and stuck a 3v laser head on either end. I have another 8 lasers, 18 batteries and 5 ft of dowel, so I can make two more without spending another penny. Pretty cool aid!
Great gadget and I can’t wait to build my own very soon…however me being me, I am already thinking of what I could modify just to be different. Thanks for this great tip of which I am confident will improve my game. I will feel more comfortable practicing outside in the open air.
New sub here! I could never hit my driver with the same conviction (and success) as with my irons. I've always suspected it was my swing plane. Unlike my irons, I never know what I'll get when hitting driver. Lots of slices, and balls in the woods, that's for sure. I'm excited to try this method! ty!
Absolutely brilliant, sir. The K.I.S.S.principle (Keep It Simple, Stupid") in action. I hope you put all those overpriced golf gadget charlatans (begins with "L" and ends in "better", for one) out of business. BTW, I've found lying a tape measure on the ground as an aim line is easy and very portable.
Hi Ed - over in England just made a lightstick. The weather is terrible here at the moment so managing to practice in the living room ( when my wife is out). Will let you know how I get on - think it's a great tool - thanks Mick
That was a super learning video!! I have my equipment ordered. I need to check how long are the canes on the floor and how far apart are they when you lay them down?? Thank you so much and happy new year!!!
I made this and have set up a line in my garage and I have been practicing. It really seems to work. My question is that if you follow the line on the way down and through does that prevent the club from shallowing? Or are we assuming that with the weight of a club head it will automatically?? Thank you again for EXCELLENT content
If you stay on the line, you'll naturally keep your shaft on plane as your weight shifts to your lead side. This is a topic we'll cover more in future videos. Great question!
What you are really doing is instilling the love of the golf game to your students. So many people stop playing because it gets to complicated for them.
I watched the original video introducing this swing aid and the recent Q&A follow-up. Well done. I do have one question about the size for Juniors. I have a 8 and 10 year old grandsons that are average size. Can they swing the 30” length or should I also make a 20” as briefly mentioned in the original video? I want to do this right for their ages. I’m now subscribed and reallying getting a lot out of your coaching videos. Thanks!!!
Glad you're enjoying it! Any size can work as long as the lights will fit and you can clearly see the beams. I'd probably make it as long as you can where they can both comfortably swing it
that's a nice clever and inexpensive too. i've had a laser type thing that attaches to the end of the grip end but i never use it. i'm gonna make one of these and use it, thnx.

isn't this like using the butt end of the grip as a guide? It looks like that to me anyway, as if the bottom of the grip handle is leading the way
The video reference 30 inch but the link is for 40 inch pvc. Is 40 inch correct length?
The length of pipe is not 40”. 40 refers to schedule 40 rigidity, the thickness of the pipe walls.
@@randyhinton5392 30 inches so it can be swung in 8 ft ceiling rooms
It will cost more than $35 because you need 2 flashlights. Still worth it.

Glad you enjoyed it!
Very cool! Ill be heading to that big box store Tuesday. Thanks!
Obi won kenobi of the golf instructors! Feel the force. May the force be with you. On my way to be a Jedi golfer!
I made this training and I use it at work between meetings. Great training aid!
Thank you for sharing this idea and this video! I’m definitely going to make this training aid!

Makes the most sense of all of the bull on TH-cam
I'm definitely going to try this out, and see how it does. Thanks for the video.
Genius! Cheap, practical and effective... just like your videos! Keep up the great work!!! Thank you... subbed.
This was the best thing ill see in a while, i understand now
I found this to help, but I used 1/2 " pvc and 2 laser flashlights it's a little more accurate
Hi there, I have just made one of your laser light training aids and just as you said on the backswing my light was pointing way over the golf ball almost on the far wall. So i am training to find the right plane. I am looking forward
to using it regularly to improve my swingplane
Practice with it every day and you’ll be amazed how much it improves your swing!
Thanks, Coach. New training aid for 2024 and very good one. Plan to make it shortly with credits to Coach.
The Secret to Good Golf.........I'll be making this best training aid for friends and family. Thank you very much for your knowledge and wisdom.
Great gadget and I can’t wait to build my own very soon…however me being me, I am already thinking of what I could modify just to be different. Thanks for this great tip of which I am confident will improve my game. I will feel more comfortable practicing outside in the open air.
OMG!! This is brilliant!! Definitely have to try this!!
Amazing! I will give this a try. Thank you for this.
Absolutely geneius!😊
Top of the pedestal training aid!
Built one and love it 👍👏
15 years ago I took and old thrift store wedge and put a laser pointer in the end of the grip
Thanks much!!! I had made something like this, but your design is much better.
New sub here! I could never hit my driver with the same conviction (and success) as with my irons. I've always suspected it was my swing plane. Unlike my irons, I never know what I'll get when hitting driver. Lots of slices, and balls in the woods, that's for sure. I'm excited to try this method! ty!
Did this help?
This has help me so much my 12 year old and I thank you
I love your content its as good as anything on TH-cam, i will give this a try.
Glad you enjoy it!
What a great aid… getting mine made ASAP! Thanks! And HAppy New Year!
Thank you. I’m going to make one tomorrow
Hi Ed - over in England just made a lightstick. The weather is terrible here at the moment so managing to practice in the living room ( when my wife is out). Will let you know how I get on - think it's a great tool - thanks Mick
Let us know how it works out for you!
my wife is not going to be happy about me making another training aid :D
You Sir are a genius! Thank you so much for sharing. Good on ya
will definitely try this. I struggle with swinging over the top. Thanks!
Love practical training tools! nice one coach!
Love it! And you also answered my question about using a Laser Light !
This is brilliant !!!! Such a great idea. thanks so much for sharing this.
Glad you liked it!
That was a super learning video!! I have my equipment ordered. I need to check how long are the canes on the floor and how far apart are they when you lay them down?? Thank you so much and happy new year!!!
That part doesn’t matter, you just need a long target line. A single long piece of tape along the ground in a straight line works perfectly
Food for thought.
Take the electricians tape and wrap one end to simulate a golf grip.
That black tape will give and work it's way loose and the adhesive gets everywhere. Good idea but I wouldn't use electricians tape for it.
Really great job. I’m going to try this. Thanks
Subscribed as soon as I found this video. Thanks!
This is excellent. Thank you very much!
Great video , one of the best i have ever seen!
Love this training aid! Thanks!
dang bro! This is sick. Sending to my golf coach now.
I bought a 3/4 pvc pipe and the mag lite mini and the entire flashlight slides through the hole. 😩
Amazing this 💯 percent work thanks so much I'm killing it now
Awesome!
This device is wonderful! Thank you!
Great question!
great swing trainer wild bill melhorn talks about the elbows lift elbows up create wrist hinge so easy
I thoroughly enjoyed this clip and will certainly make use of my manga lights, will report back.
Great tip. I was looking for same with laser but this is easy. Creating soon. Thanks
What you are really doing is instilling the love of the golf game to your students. So many people stop playing because it gets to complicated for them.
Thanks Margie your comment made my day!
Nice tip. Is this applicable regardless of swing method?
Yes, the most important thing is getting on plane before impact, as we talk about later in the video when Patrick is swinging the Lightstick
Great simple aid that will guide you through the swing plane!
Absolutely brilliant.
Interesting video, going to try it. Thanks
Thanks for this great and helpful post.
Love it, thanks. I think I've going to buy a dozen cat toy lasers and go to town on my winter clubs. Thanks a ton!
This is really good stuff you should totally patent this before someone else makes a gimmicky replica and charges $200
I watched the original video introducing this swing aid and the recent Q&A follow-up. Well done. I do have one question about the size for
Juniors.
I'd probably make it as long as you can where they can both comfortably swing it
20 inches great!
I really REALLY like this. Wow. Nice 👍👍
that's a nice clever and inexpensive too. i've had a laser type thing that attaches to the end of the grip end but i never use it. i'm gonna make one of these and use it, thnx.
I’m going to make one thanks
