This Technique Makes Tight Pitch Shots SO EASY!
Your instruction style is awesome. So many instructors speak so fast to get a lot of information out in a short video, it is hard to absorb and process. I find your style allows me to absorb and even have that “aha” moment. Appreciate your time Thank you
For irons i use the 12 o'clock position and driver use 1 to 130
From USA Northern NJ. Good strategy and execution for the Coryenthin GC terrain that can be applied any other GC with similar conditions and terrain.
this was a really good video, there are not many vids on yt that talk about strategy and how to play a hole, as you play... more of this from time to time would be great. thanks for the channel, really learning a lot
We hope to do many more of these next year!
17:50 min in you lost me at baseball. also idk about the wrist thing. i may try tomorrow evenign at the range but i think i got the driver down. my stance is too wide, and i lift my front foot
Love how you teach. Thank you both.
So, why?? Where are you supposed to aim relative to the alignment sticks?
I have an old Callaway 11 would, which is just great at wall high grass
I don’t have binocular vision as I lost my right eye. I try and line up to an intermediate target 6 inches to a foot away. I set up to that line. Same with fairway shots
This was good but there is not really much showing the swing mechanics on how to do this. I’m guessing you swing out to the right. Need to hit balls with a shot tracer if possible
Ed can you further explain the setup. For a draw, are my feet slightly closed and my knees, hips and shoulders slightly closed as well or am I setup with my feet slightly closed and my hips and shoulders square to the target line? I understand I will not be changing my grip and my back swing will go back following the target line and the down swing will be a normal transition with the follow thru along the target line and club swinging across my chest with the butt end of the club pointing outside of the original target line. So setup is where I need more clarity. Watched your video multiple times and wasn’t able to see how the knees, hips and shoulders align. Understand the feet are slightly closed. Help…Thanks!
Thanks a lot for this tidbit! This connects a couple more dots for me that I didn’t realize or know about before. I use an intermediate point anywhere from 6” to 18” in front of the ball, depending on the club, inline with my intended target line and I feel like this is critical for amateurs like me to use on every shot. I line my ball up behind a divot, leaf, broken tee, or whatever I can use visually on the tee box to line me up and it helps me tremendously with the optical illusion you so brilliantly explain. When I set up to the ball it has to feel like I have my body and stance in such a way that when I swing I feel like I can go right over that intermediate point in my minds eye. Sometimes my focus is a little left or right of it depending on whether I want fade or draw. My 3 step plan is firstly, from well behind the ball, visualize a flight plan for the shot, which is how high do I want the shot and what action, draw, fade or straight. Pick an intermediate point 0:15 and get set up to it as above. Then, once I have my stance, grip, ball position set up to go over the intermediate point, my focus changes to only my intended target or target area, nothing else. Do not focus back on the ball or who knows what will happen and I feel like that’s what a lot of amateurs do last that gets them in trouble with errant shots.I stay supremely focused on my target area and it helps a ton. My target area depending on the club and shot can be as big as a house or as small as a kitchen table. Good luck and thanks a lot for this vid!!
My intermediate target is less than 3 feet from the ball.
Thanks, guys!! I've been playing golf for 33 years (42 y.o.). I've known about the optical illusion caused by the parallax effect since I was a kid, but I've never seen it visually demonstrated so elegantly or verbally described so effectively. And you are correct...It is extremely difficult to get people to "believe" in this concept. I've tried to explain it before, and I just get blank stares haha. Then, during a round, they try to tell me I'm aiming left...oof! I super appreciate vids that are geared toward advanced golfers, not weekend duffers. Most YT vids are 15-min long but only contain 2-min (max) of worthy content. Not here. You guys know how to do it! Thanks again!!! And I'll definitely check out more of your videos. P.S. ...I never knew that about Callaway R&D having had input from an optometrist....I love that kind of trivia.

Is the why pros have their golf ball lines are on a 45 degree angle? I line my driver like a putt to the hole /flag but seen an LPGA lady have a line that's 45 degree angle with driver
lol about the runway comment considering many runways have no lines at all, while others use navigation tools so you can land even when you cant see.
Wise teacher. Like the channel name. A new 'angle' to share with my slicing friends. I draw the ball, but perhaps the pull misses with irons off a tee are influenced by this...and not wanting a big block.
Thanks! That can absolutely be the case
why didn't you hit any balls?
My game has definitely improved over the last year!
@mungtor says it in his comment and I agree. The video explains how parallax can affect your swing, but it does not explain how to correct for it. The replies to @mungtor's comment also don't sufficiently explain how to correct for it. And I'm like most golfers: I don't have a backyard driving range nor can I set PVC pipes out on the practice range that I go to. This video needs a Part 2 that explains how the normal golfer can practice correcting for parallax error.
Thanks for the comment. I’m sorry if it wasn’t clear for you how to practice. Frankly, the set up that we made is the way to practice to have an alignment stick on your target line forward of the ball 10 to 15 yards and then your feet, hips and shoulders for a right handed player parallel left to that line at address and you need to start your ball over, the alignment stick on your line forward of the ball.
This was great thank you
I'm not nearly accurate enough to be able to use this lesson... I aim for the middle of the green... pray a little... and hit it into the bunker... or skull it... but... I appreciate how this could be useful.
This was truly mind blowing! However, I do set up usually to a diet or a tee marker or a leaf on the ground and that’s usually where I am at. I rarely look up to the actual target once I choose my intermediate spot. Same thing with potting. I set up my line once I set up to go. I don’t change my name and I trust what my eyes saw from down the line as opposed to standing above the wall. My putting improve dramatically since I’ve been doing that.
Thanks guys .yet another explanation why the shorter my club the better my shot/aim. Loft being a big part of it too but my aim (as well as contact )went haywire during last few rounds .
“You might think I’m crazy too… BUT I’M NOT”. 🤬 I don’t know if he is crazy or not, but this is good advice.
Does this become more exaggerated for a right handed player who is left eye dominant?
I learned about binocular parallax when I was about 8 years old because I thought the phrase sounded cool and I wanted to use it. This is basically the same thing, just on a larger scale. Excellent! Personally I aim by pointing my shoulder at my intended target. It looks like I'm aimed too far left (I'm left-handed) but if I put down an alignment stick it's pretty darn close.
Great info. I will concentrate more on this next time I'm at the range to start.
Interesting concept, but the video falls severely short because it doesn't tell you where/how to actually aim.
The pvc pipes do exactly that. They are your target line, therefore, thats where you should be aiming.
Exactly, you need to pick a target that’s actually on your target line, and envision the ball going through that intermediate point
@@TheGolfSensei There's 2 pipes in the example, and you could put an infinite amount of pipes along the line. Still doesn't tell you which one to aim at. Are you picking a pipe 1/2 way between you and the target? More? Less?
@mungtor every one of those infinite pipes will be on the right side of the flag when seen from the parallax error. I think that's the point. people mistake the flag as being left of the actual target line.
@@isaacbarber2795 Actually, the infinite pipes will converge to be at the flag at the far end of the line. The line runs from the ball to the flag, and the issue comes from that being a different line than from you to the flag when you're in your stance. I get all that. I was just wondering whether there was going to be a suggestion on how to correct for it rather than "this is something to be aware of". I think this is going boil down to something like this... Stand behind the ball. Pick a reference 5' in front of the ball along the line. Swing your club through the ball towards that point, not at the flag.
What if you do this, but backwards? I always feel like I am aimed too far left, and then if I hit it straight, I'll miss left.. So my brain forces me to swing out to the right, to get the ball to start toward my intended target, which leaves me with a huge in to out path and a huge miss left.
You can definitely over do it! Experiment with swinging to the left, swinging to the right and try to find the middle
I just use an alignment stick for my feet
This is a good practice and helps, but the direction you swing also has a big impact on ball flight. You can set up square but swing your shoulder plane to the left or right. This concept is about how to swing square to your feet and target line
@ but does the aiming cause the out to in swing ? Wouldn’t it just be a fundamental flaw in the swing .. I could be wrong, I don’t know maybe I am subconsciously not swinging square due to the aim
Any tips for those who line up to the right?
Fascinating. Thanks as always
This is incredible. I've never seen it explained so well, verbally and visually :)
Glad you enjoyed it!
How does three stripes on a Callaway help?
I disagree!!
@@flex070934 With the premise or that it is explained well?
isn't this the old railroad track thing...i.e. your target is actually between your clubface line and your feet's line?
The railroad track thing is correct for correct alignment. But this explains why many players have trouble with aim and an incorrect club path.
Yes, it is. He has the correct illustration, wrong application. You come over the top because your body and club face are aligned right and you correct left. If you align your body parallel to the target line and club face down the line you will hit it straight.
The camera idea is great. Really "drives" home this illusion.

Ed, I know I've posted before that my 8 yo is really interested in TopGolf after we visited and I plan to build him the training aid you make with the flashlights. And, we're fortunate to have a First Tee program local to us and an indoor sim even closer to play over the winter. My question concerns which side he should play from? He is left-handed when eating, writing, and he even started throwing football and baseball left-handed originally, he suddenly, he started throwing right-handed. Which side should I start him on? Is there a way to tell? Plus, how do you feel about training grips on junior clubs? Thanks!
Just came across your channel a couple of weeks ago. Really enjoy it. I live on west side of MO and may try to arrange a trip east to get a lesson. Thanks for the great content.
Glad you enjoy the videos!
Recent info from Freddie says he doesn't hardly have a regular iron in his bag. Picked up a 7 W recently - matched set now is 3w, 5w and the 7w-- Calloways about 25 years old.
How would you compare with hybrid… iron and driver.
Loved your videos as they helped me ! Thank you for the hard work and tips you shared ! Looking forward to more from you ! Toronto Canada
I told you I’d watch your videos the other morning in the truck buddy! Gonna take a while to get through them all but there’s plenty of down time in the duck blind the next 58 days!😎
Thanks for watching!
And faster!
How do you do the top tracer graphics?
Manually in After Effects, it can be very tedious!
No, thank YOU!! I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, this is the first and so far only TH-cam channel I’ve found that feels like you’re getting actual pointers from an instructor, and you’re actually learning how to improve. Quality over quantity any day!
What about pulling lead leg back with lead hip issues to clear hips? Good video😊
