    Excellent review Paule! Thank you for this. Best one on TH-cam. Komodo has the best color and image quality for under 15k IMO. Does the focal reducer also decrease noise with the extra stop of light it lets in? If so, seems like that would be a must-have for this camera for run and gun

    • @pauleporterdp
      @pauleporterdp  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you I really appreciate that :) so the stop of light is helpful and it also helps keeping the ISO a little lower which is great. But it doesn’t change the noise performance itself. I recommend this adapter to anybody who owns a Komodo :)

      @@pauleporterdp Thanks for the reply! So it sounds like it helps the noise performance in the sense that you don't have to crank up the ISO as much for certain shots. Is that correct?

    RED nailed the highlight rolloff considering it's a global shutter camera which usually have terrible rolloff. I think the native dynamic range of the sensor is about 12.6EV but they seemed to have eeked out extra visual DR from the internal image processing algorithm.

    Hi Paul! Thanks for such a detailed review. I wanted to know if sound is recorded in 4k 50-60 prores. Does it conform to slow motion in camera? Thanks in advance!

    • @pauleporterdp
      @pauleporterdp  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks mate. So if you set the camera project to 50/60p audio is recorded and it is played back in real-time.
      If you set your project frame base to 24 in and then you set it to off speed recording then it will convert it to slow Mo on camera

    At about 10:08 there are weird greenish colors int the water highlights. Is that a cheap lens issue or some kind of imaging problem? Also looks a bit like focus peaking but it would be a hard quality control issue if this is the cameras fault. Other than that nice video ;)

    • @pauleporterdp

    Would you winkle out some slow mo from 40 fps on this camera?
    It doesn t support audio when switched to 40fps?
    It has 24,30,40fps only?
    If connected let s say to ninja 5 will you get Prores 60fps?
    Have you tried it with Sirui lenses?Curious how S35 sensor which is a bit bigger would eat Sirui s lenses

    • @pauleporterdp

      Hi Yaroslav, so in full Sensor read out it does 6k in 23.976, 24, 25 , 30 and 40fps
      It only gives you 4k 60p when it crops into the Sensor to the 4K resolution. Also the átomos won’t change that

    I contemplated this camera quite substantially and I‘ve come to the conclusion that it‘s only really worth its money (which WILL amount to 10K+) if you‘re going go be a heavy user of the 6K RAW readout, so basically commercial work and the likes. If you won‘t take advantage of that then I think there is no reason to spend this much money for compromises like resolution sensor crop, frame rate sensor crop, mediocre low light performance, slow handling, huge file sizes and an autofocus that feels 5 years behind the competition.
    After almost hype-buying it I came to the conclusion that the Sony FX6 does the same things for me I wanted from the Komodo, only better and cheaper (my complete package will be around 7.5K)

    • @CarSpawner
      @CarSpawner 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Are you satisfied with the fx6 picture? I'm considiring buying the fx6, komodo or even an older camera like varicam for example. My problem with the fx6 is it's sensor. it's just a tuned A7s3 with 5% better color. Don't get me wrong, the image is still great, but imo there is the typical sony digital look rather than a filmic picture.

    • @pauleporterdp
      @pauleporterdp  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your feedback. Yes as said the Komodo is great but certainly not for everybody.

    • @pauleporterdp
      @pauleporterdp  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have shot one time with the Fx6 and although it’s a really nice camera I totally agree that the image doesn’t look so filmic like bmpcc6k or Komodo.

    • @NikHem343
      @NikHem343 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CarSpawner This would admittetly be the first time I heard that, but even then I've come to believe that a lot of that "filmic look" that is so wonky to pin down comes from colors and even nuances can change drastically how good a camera looks. There's this guy, Joel Famularo, who does the "Phantom LUTs", which basically emutale the ARRI look on other cameras. He has an FX9 and a7sIII pack already and is currently working on the FX6. This will be an absolute must buy for me on day one as his FS7 LUT literally changed me from a skeptic to the biggest fan of that camera.

      The Canon 16-35 f/4 has IS, but I cant tell if Paule tested that one or the 2.8 version. Either way, with the f/4 lens and the speed booster you'd effectively be getting a 2.8 stabilized lens.

  • @gummoman

    I have always thought about buying a RED camera but I used it in a commercial and it convinced me otherwise. It's an overpriced product with a ton of problems that only works because it has a questionably obtained patent. I'm talking about compressed RAW. It's slow, the sensor calibration thing is so annoying. It's not good in low light, you can't shoot at more frames without cropping the sensor. The screen is not fluid. You can't turn it on with a cable connected. 😅
