    I've shot on Canon for years, and while they are pricey I felt I was getting great images. But the Komodo is a game changer in many ways. And to say that your film, or project was shot on a Red camera will instantly get attention. The Red Komodo will (I hope) get a greater name recognition, thereby making more projects at higher fees. At the end of the day, name recognition is important.

    The fun fact about highlight recovery systems of the Red komodo is very bad, it’s loses a red channel, only green and blue are still there, red komodo is not even close to the C70 if we talk about DR, pocket 6k sensor is still better for the latitude test (real world scenario) so I think you’re a little bit bias, even one of best camera lab in the world “CineD”, they testing everything camera that out of the market, they said the dr of a komodo is like 12.5stop for the SNR = 2 (Signal-To-Noise-Ratio 2) but the c70 is 14.2stops this one is if you many famous dp in the film industry said red komodo very bad at highlight rolloff. btw, I used it twice and never use it again, but I admit that the R3D is the solid raw, just the ability of the sensor that couldn’t capture it.

    Great review! I can't help but notice how the Canon looks slightly more washed out when you do a shot of a face. Does that have to do with focus or anything?

    • @pauleporterdp
      @pauleporterdp  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks man :) no that’s due to the colour science and the conversion lut that canon provides. The red lut is a little more colourful.
      However the footage of both cameras can be manipulated how ever you want to. The Codecs are there also for heavy colour grading.

      @ItsBerg 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@pauleporterdp I wonder how it would look if you rated it at 250 or or 400, given the shot is mostly in the shadows. Because RED has no native iso, rating it at 800 gives equal stops of detail to highlights and shadows (8 & 8).. if you rated it at 250 or 400 you’re giving more data to the shadows. I wonder if the same noise would’ve showed then, but I know you would’ve gained more latitude in post.
