Hello and thank you for this video. It was very helpful. I would just like to know if you rinse with warm or cold water after you deep condition. Thank you !
My pleasure girl! And to answer your question, I use lukewarm water just because it helps the product melt in a little bit better. But I have high porosity hair so even if I used cold water it would be fine - I just don’t want to 😭😩
Awesome video!! Just coming across your channel and I LOVE your vibe and how informative you are!! (Liked and subscribed 😊) Is there a link for the edge control?
Hi @AfopeAtoyebi, beautiful video, i enjoyed the shopping part. What i find interesting (i guess it boils down to composition), is the shea moisture jbco restore and strength despite having two proteins, feels very mild (almost like an everyday DP) compared to crecepelo, who has one, which makes my hair react right away. I'm low porosity.
Loved the video. I've used the cr moisture milk and the kckt custard. But not the other two. I'm SO EXCITED that I've found a high porosity youtuber bc it's like 2,000 LOW POROSITY ones on here and only like 5 h.p. lol.
And a brilliant trichologist to boot - jackpot! I know not what porosity I have, but I am glad the underrepresented high porosity ladies and gents struck gold with Afope!!!
I did this and got waaaay less shedding than usual. Still got breakage though 😭 Can you do a “week in my hair routine” vid if you haven’t already ? Would love to see how you remoisturize
The HASK mask was just what the doctor ordered as expected. You can see those coils bouncing at the end of the video when I'm moisturising. I am yet to try it on its own - but it was definitely a good mix for the crece pelo to boost the protein content.
Love your videos , personality, your knowledge ! TH-cam was made for you ! Or rather you for TH-cam … however you want to say it lol Anyhow … can you do a wash and go video and do you ever let you hair air dry , or blow dry it ?
Finally! My west African hair twin! I have high density, and high porosity hair too! I don't care much for curl type but yours is the most similar I've ever seen! So glad to have come across your well-researched and informative channel. I'm a happy subscriber! I give thanks!
This video was very helpful! I'm definitely going to get As I Am products. I have high porosity hair, that gets very dry and itchy so I need to try that as I am product. Definitely need to save up for all thisb
I typically keep my head in mini twists for weeks and I'm looking for ways to keep it moisturized before I take it out again. I typically add leave in conditioner and oil once a week. Do you think getting the curling custard will help?
OMG, at last someone who also has high porosity hair...I feel like almost everyone who I follow has low porosity hair...I've been here wondering why I have to re-moisturise my hair almost everyday lol. Also, shout out to Boots who seem to have decided to stock more products for afro hair...when did that happen?? During lockdown?? I will try your tips for wash day...your process seems straightforward and doesn't involve a million steps so I'm hopeful. Thanks again and keep up the good work!
Have any of you tried these wash day products before? I haven't really used shea moisture products for a number of years so this was my first time trying their products again. To be honest, the shampoo didn't blow my mind. It had a lot of foam (probably because of the cocamidopropyl betaine), but not as much slip as I would have liked. I should have checked for those ingredients too. But my hair was pretty dry because of the frequent clarifying, so it was a welcomed change and definitely didn't leave my hair dry at all.
Afope Atoyebi I’ve used Shea Moisture’s Raw Shea Butter line, and it was awful! It made my hair dry...even tried their black soap for my face - smells amazing but awful again, so I don’t trust any of their products anymore🤷🏾♀️
@@F__________ Wow, thats a shame. To be honest the only ones I've tried that impressed me were from the curl & shine range, but I feel like they changed the formulations for those. Also, their ingredients are for sure different in the US vs in the UK. So buying the same product in different parts of the world can give you varying results. That's wild.
The only reason I know this, is because when I was looking for the ingredients list online, the list that was coming up seemed to be different on the american sites than what was actually on the bottle/on the boots website
Afope Atoyebi girl, I’m not surprised. I noticed it with Lush - Sleepy, fragrance and color...though only discerning folks would notice the slight difference. Nevertheless #TeamLushSleepyLotion #NeverAgainSheaMoisture 🙃
New subbie! I rarely subscribe because people have very little useful information in super long videos. Also too much look at me intros and loud music that you can't hear them speaking over. I loved your video about the moisturizing ingredients and it made a lot of sense. I can't remember if you listed Camille Rose Curl Maker gel but it has 6 of the ingredients you have listed and has been moisturizing for me, I think a little less so than Kinky Curly Custard though.
Awww Thank you!!! I did actually list it, but I definitely agree - the curl maker is not as moisturising as the kccc but it also has less film forming humectants. The KCCC is basically 95% ff humectants and 5% oils.
What gel did you use to lay down your hair at 13:14 to make your hair so flat? I have 4b/4c hair and I've tried both eco styler and gorilla snot (separately) WITH a scarf to lay my hair down, but I still get a lot of fly aways... Btw, I recently discovered your channel and I LOVE how knowledgeable you are about natural hair!
This made me laugh out loud. I don't do anything at the salons except styling. I just do my hair care and pampering at home before I go to the salon. The few ones who were great were willing to learn and follow my tips. Shame.
I tried washing my hair in twists. It didn’t work for me. As I scrubbed my scalp I found my hand 🖐🏾 kept coming into contact with the start of the twist and yanking my hair. Besides, my roots still got tangled. Instead, I wash my hair loose in small sections (about twelve). I found twists didn’t sufficiently prevent tangling and even loose twists (inadvertently) caused me to put more stress on my hair.
Nice video. Thanks for adding the ingredient list. Knowing ingredients that work well or dont for your hair is very empowering. That security guard in the background all up in your business though ...ugh. 😂
Hahahaha someone else pointed this out. I really wasn't "allowed" to be filming in there. Apparently it's against store policy. But I managed to convince him, so I guess he was still trying to "keep an eye on me".
@@AfopeAtoyebi o ok. I knew it had to be something like that. I'm glad that it didn't seem to impact you at all. You took your time and gave us high quality content nonetheless! Thank you sis!
When styling the hair, butters should be added last, as they are designed to seal in the moisture. The moisture will definitely last longer. It will also breaks the gel cast and prevent flaking.

Afope Atoyebi so are you telling me curling custard can be used as regular moisturizer or something? In my mind I always think it’s only for styling and needs to be washed off afterwards.
@@F__________ Girl! marketing is powerful. The ingredients in this product are more moisturising than what you'll likely find in 70% of "moisturising" products on the market. Film forming humectants are nature's superior moisturisers. Their primary benefit is how well they can hold onto and retain water/moisture. This is why you'll find them in many desert plants. It's just a bonus that we've discovered that many of these plant gels/film forming humectants also give coily/curly hair a good amount of hold and definition. So in short - yes. I use this product (and other "natural styling gels") primarily as moisturisers. The curl definition is an added bonus.
This also means that I am not as heavy handed with the product as I'm not using it to achieve maximum curl definition. I literally use it as I would any other cream or butter - just enough to coat the section. Not drench it. Which is how I feel people use it when using it for styling purposes. I also wash my hair every week so it's not like it stays in there forever. But if anything was going to stay on my hair forever, it would 100% be these plant gels.
Great video Afope 💕 I got the Revair as I’m trying to keep my hair stretched more often. Can you suggest which products/ settings are best to use to prevent dryness and prolong moisture throughout the week? X
Hi Zoe! Love your username btw 😭. I use it on the low heat to start off with, and put it right up to my scalp and then switch to high heat - all on vacuum power 5-6. Even though I use the high heat, I don’t put it right up to my scalp so that there is still space for air flow. I find that this way it doesn’t actually get that hot, and is more of a temperature in between the low and the high heat setting. I also make sure I moisturise my hair so I’m not just drying it bare. I also sleep with my hair in two loose Bantu knots, and this keeps it stretched and also helps retain moisture.
You can, but if your hair is low porosity it doesn’t need a lot of product for moisture. It’s more prone to build up. So if you ware using a leave in, then you can consider the KC knot today, and then add oils as you want. Just be mindful of build up as low porosity hair is more prone to this than other hair types
Alright I’m curious 🧐 if I were to do that hairstyle on my 3A curls, how long would it take to dry? Also, do you use a diffuser? I’ve heard it’s not the best to leave hair wet for long periods of time, but what are your thoughts? Love your channel by the way, new subscriber! 😁
I go thru ingredients like this when I get hair stuff too it takes me so long because I'm googling all the ingredients 😂 do you use an app to scan the ingredients or do you just know what to look for?
Hello. I came across your channel quite by accident and after watching your videos, I had to subscribe!! you really know your stuff lol. I have high porosity hair and I have a few questions... Can I use african black soap to clarify my hair? What is the best dc to use after using the aphogee protein treatment? I watched your video on how you do your protein treatment. I don't to buy a products that I won't use. Does the Crece repairing dc have protein in it? I want to rotate my wash routine and I don't want protein overload. I recently purchased products from Kinky Tresses it has a avocado infused sulfate-free moisturizing shampoo, hair milk, hair butter, restorative conditioner, and a hair oil. The restorative conditioner has hydrolyzed wheat protein, silk amino acids vitamin b5 and vitamin e. toward the bottom of the ingredient list. All the products are silicone, mineral oil, petroleum, paraben, sulfate free. I know that I need a protein treatment BADLY!!!! I don't have heat damage, I don't color my hair it's mostly grey around the temples and in the front and I need a trim. I have high porosity hair too!! I’m not even natural 🤣 but your videos are so soothing. I tried Apple cider vinegar rinse for the first time last wash day to help with porosity. Have you tried it?? Want to try a few more times before I decide (my namesake! 😘)
Hahaha thanks lamide! ACV rinses are really good for the scalp, and hair. I don't use them often, but I have used them in them before and it's always a winner
My biggest grumble is that these companies dont do a travel /sample size. Im low porosity, protein sensitive. The shea moisture castor oil shampoo is the bomb! Superdrugs own version of castor oil shampoo and conditioner is also the bomb. I found the superdrug version better than shea moisture and much cheaper!
Yes ma'am. Before I started filming for youtube, this used to be every Saturday morning without fail. Now it's every 7-10 days depending on my filming schedule. But basically, yes. Hahaha
What would’ve turned me off first on all the products she’d decided not to get would have been the fact that the first ingredient of them all was water. Signifying that it’s mostly water
Watching this in 2021 (just found you by chance) and I'm low-key mad about the 3 people I saw in the background walking around without masks on right in the beginning of the pandemic....ew

Hi Afope,
Did you use the custard on the top when you were laying your hair or was that another gel?
Yes I did - I also used the curls edge control paste afterwards like you saw me do.
Amazing!!💙
You asked in another video my holy grill . I use this product as a sealant and styler Uncle Funky’s Daughter Curly Magic Curl Stimulator
The ingredients are .. water,organic Aloe Barbadenis,infused Althea, Chamonilla,nettle, horsetail,tocopherol vitamin E
*New Fave Alert*... Hey Boo hey 😏🇳🇬😘😊
I haven’t actually tried either - I may have to look into this. And yes, sample sizes would be so helpful
The security guard is obviously following her
Listen......New Subbie here! Where have you been all my life!? Love your channel!
Love this chanel
Aphogee 2 min conditioner or curlific treatment is the ONLY way to go.
How long did it take you to find the right products and routine?
Do you mean in this video or in general?
Very helpful video ✨🔥
Thank you ☺
Great videoooo
Thank youuuu - Glad you enjoyed it
But thankyou aunty Afope!!
Please make a video on how to give low porosity hair some volume PLEASE
Test please 😀
This video is cued for the next couple weeks 😂! Exciting stuff
💐💐💐💐💐💐💐💐💐💐💐💐
Do you wash your hair week?
Yes ma'am. Before I started filming for youtube, this used to be every Saturday morning without fail. Now it's every 7-10 days depending on my filming schedule. But basically, yes. Hahaha
Anybody else peeped the security guy checkig her?
I haven’t watched it yet but I’m so happy I didn’t wash my hair this morning haha
Hahahaha I cracked up reading this 😂
What would’ve turned me off first on all the products she’d decided not to get would have been the fact that the first ingredient of them all was water. Signifying that it’s mostly water
💜🇧🇷
Watching this in 2021 (just found you by chance) and I'm low-key mad about the 3 people I saw in the background walking around without masks on right in the beginning of the pandemic....ew
You are so beautiful
Thank you so much! So kind 💛
