    This was so insighful! I have been using hot water when washing my hair for years and as such my hair has been dried out for years. Thought I needed to do this to get product out of my hair. Stopping this madness today!

      Great to hear 👌🏾 Warm water is effective enough to remove product build up and dirt, but it’s more about the shampoo that’s going to get the job done. But I’m glad my video was useful.

    Should I stay away from steaming. I saw a TH-camr say steaming was good for high porosity hair. Should I avoid it unless I'm deep conditioning or is it ok to use when detangling? Love the content 💓

    • @bellal5234
      @bellal5234 2 ปีที่แล้ว +30

      @daniellaspace I would avoid any type of heat since heat opens hair shafts. The reason why steams are so highly promoted is because it works best for normal and low porosity individuals who are trying to get their hair shafts open to absorb the products.
      Since high porosity is caused by the hair shafts being more open than it should be, we need to find methods that will close it or create a seal. Heavy conditioners, moisturizers, oils, and cold water is best for high porosity. Doing your hair in the LCO method and using a heavy grease like Blue Magic to seal your hair (not just your scalp) works wonders for my hair. The cold water will help your hair shafts to close a little as well. If you must use hot/warm water during wash days - try to keep the water lukewarm or room temperature, just be sure that your final rinses are with cold water.

    Great tips….Thank you!! It is now Winter and I have started using Petroleum Jelly to seal my hair before putting in twists. Never did this before but got desperate once cold, dry weather turned my strands into desert straws. I love it!!!! Not greasy like oils and especially effective for keeping the ends moisturized. Doesn’t take a lot and my strands look great when I take the twists down to moisturize. (I wear head wraps and never wear my hair out in Winter.) Not sure I’ll use Petroleum Jelly in Spring and Summer bec I roll with WnG when it’s warm…but, I’m loving it for now to keep my hair moisturized!! ❤

    Thank you for this explanation. I just did a big chop where i shaved off all of my hair because it wasn’t growing. I wanna say that I do have high porosity hair because i over use products that have different kinds of ingredients that I use on my hair, as well as washing it with hot water and using different types of shampoos/ conditioner. As well as blowdrying and combing it everyday. I believe that is what caused me to have high hair porosity because I’m an impatient person and I don’t know what my hair likes. I want to be able to use natural products. Or would it be best to not be any products on my hair? Right now my hair is shaved so should I wait until it starts to grow out?

    • @HealthyAfroHair

      You’re very welcome! If it’s completely bald, then you don’t have to worry so much about using products. However, once your hair starts to grow, you will want to start using them. But keep it simple and stick to one product at a time.
