  • I review the DeWalt DCF880 18V cordless impact wrench whilst disassembling my Rover 216 Cabriolet. Is it worth buying?
    DO NOT follow my example and use chrome sockets/extensions on an impact - it is dangerous (they can shatter) and you definitely lose torque. Use the correct tools for the job!

    Good review fella. no shouty Americans, no stupid music. Just a good honest, see for yourself review. Subbed and ordered the tool on the strength of this review. Thank you

    I’ve just bought one of these and it was delivered today, just taken it out the box and I was A bit disappointed when I first saw it and that is why I looked on TH-cam for a review of one and I’m pleased to say that after watching this I know I’m not going to be disappointed with it when I eventually use it. Great video 👍👍

      I just ordered one for my father. About three years ago I already got him the DCF887N (as an addition to a DCD995M2). That turned out to be the wrong model for the job (he's mainly using it to change wheels on the cars - of course he's using a torque wrench to finalize things at the correct torque for each car). The 887 is nice if you need to drive in screws but for the use with socket spanners it seems close to impossible to find socket adapters that won't break sooner or later due to the high torque.

    Nice review how well do those aftermarket batteries hold up

      It seemed pretty good during my testing (used it to strip down the Fox and Rover) but I don’t know how well a genuine DeWalt 5Ah would compare. They’re cheap but I think if I was putting it through serious trade use I would go genuine - they feel cheap and I doubt they’d take knocks or bumps well!

    Useful, I probably need* one. Although I can see the advantages of having a smaller one that could do all the jobs. I guess 1/4 inch isn't up to much?

    • @ModernHeroes
      @ModernHeroes  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think Milwaukee do a 1/4 one that is actually quite good although you'll really struggle to shift anything with it. Their compact 3/8 gun might be a good compromise - the M12FIW38.

    • @ModernHeroes
      @ModernHeroes  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The M12FIW14 is their 1/4" drive one - I'd be interested to try it out, tbh.

    I don’t think i would impact exhaust bolts off - that sort of job that needs some feel, to ensure it’s not knackering the thread.

    • @ModernHeroes
      @ModernHeroes  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Fair point - although I’d rather clean up a thread than have to remove half a snapped stud! Find the short sharp shocks from an impact reduces the risk of snapping 20 year old rusty studs that have never moved. I’m no expert though as I’m sure you can tell, so appreciate the feedback!

    Where did you get the battery from and how much was it mate plus I’m thinking of getting the drill as well saw it on amazon only £109 bare not bad.

    • @ModernHeroes
      @ModernHeroes  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I bought the battery from Amazon. It was less than £30 but I can’t remember exactly how much and it seems the listing has gone now (quite common with “compatible” stuff like that - the brands / sellers / listings change often!). It’s probably worth shelling out the extra for a genuine battery if you’re going to use it a lot but for occasional use the cheapy ones seem to do the job!

    Great video, im thinking about getting this machine but is it brushless? And can I use my charger 18v xr-lion from my drill ? And can I put my 1,5ah batteries on this one from my 18v xr-lion drill greetings from sweden !

    • @ModernHeroes
      @ModernHeroes  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This one isn’t brushless - I suspect that’s why it’s cheaper. Will work with any XR battery but you might need a bigger one, I think it’ll deplete a 1.5Ah pretty quickly!

      @hugootterstrom5812 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi, always wondered if a extension bar is used how much torque is lost on these units? Cheers

    • @ModernHeroes
      @ModernHeroes  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Matt - I put it through a lot of use with a small impact extension (the one shown in the video when I’m waving it around because I was too lazy to press the pin in to remove it) and it seems to perform admirably. Unfortunately I don’t have anything longer that’s impact rated. Can confirm that using chrome sockets / extensions / u-joints saps the life out of it though!

    Anyone know what the difference is between a DCF880N and a plain DCF880 without the N? Is it because the N is a bare unit without the battery?

    • @ModernHeroes
      @ModernHeroes  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep. You'll find other model numbers with a letter and a number instead of the N that dictate what batteries are supplied with it.

      For the price at the time and the fact it fits into smaller spaces, yes, it’s decent. It isn’t as powerful as their massive ones but it’s not as expensive or huge either.
