The Ford Ranger Raptor X is a fond farewell to the best ute on the market. The current generation PX Ranger is about to be replaced by an all-new model very soon, and this Ford Performance dual cab pickup 4x4 is now even more outlandish than before.
The Raptor X introduces a number of exterior styling changes to make it stand out even more from the pack, and it's enough to make Toyota HiLux, Nissan Navara, Mazda BT-50, Mitsubishi Triton and Isuzu D-Max drivers very jealous. The wide body design, BF Goodrich tyres and Fox Shocks suspension all give it a serious amount of street presence.
There is no off road review as part of this test - we know the Raptor is amazing at that stuff. This was purely a towing test to see how it hauls.
But what about how it copes with hard work? In this test we hit the road towing a 1725kg cherry picker - hardly pushing the towing capacity limit for this model (2500kg / 2.5 tonne towing), and well and truly less than the rest of the Ranger line-up's capability (3500kg / 3.5 tonne). How does it cope? Watch the video to see, and read Matt Campbell's detailed written review to find out more.

You people need to understand that Ranger Raptor is not intended for towing.
Raptor is made to jump dunes, go on hiking trail, and drive on normal roads all like a champion while keeping you confortable with somewhat luxurious cabin.
Towing is an added bonus, that should not even be really looked at if you are buying this kind of vehicle.
If you really want to tow buy FX4, F150, F250 or something in that range that is intended for towing.

Y'all need to understand this is a lifestyle vehicle that can be a work horse.
    Same concept with the F150.
If you want to tow your load get the normal ranger and stop complaining about the Raptors towing/payload.
Nothing drives like this on the road, it's the best in class.

Which is why were getting one next year.
We dont intend to tow but the tray will still be useful.
This will be extremely comfortable for travelling and any off roading we do.
If we wanted better towing, wed get a wildtrack or Fx4.. either way, a ranger.

I have a raptor and we use it for boat deliveries etc its perfect but does not tow as much as the standard ranger. I chose it as its a better ride and looks great. You need to get the hitch weight correct as the suspension softer than the leave springs. Towing a balanced trailer is so much more comfortable than the standard ranger as you dont get the nodding effect.

Couldn’t he just hook up a camp trailer instead of that ridiculous unstable cherry-picker - I mean how many people are going to tow that clumsy monstrosity around. It’s not as if a tradey will run and buy a Raptor. He had the perfect opportunity to give us a good towing review and totally blew it.
Also, it’s not designed to tow heavy loads so fit airbags if you must or stop winging and just get a wildtrack - it’s horses for courses, simple.

This ute is a sheep in a wolf skin. I can tolerate a 2 litre engine powering the GWM Cannon ute when it cost less than 40k. What I cannot tolerate is Ford charging people 80k for a puny 2 litre. For 80k buyers should be getting a V6.

@@2157AF Ram sells about 3k petrol units nationally a year with the highest volume model having no diesel option , just the Ranger will sell about 40k and If the cheaper rams came with the diesel powertrains from the bigger models you know what people would choose. Take the F250 for an example where you get a choice, Diesel dominates units sold. It wouldn’t make any sense financially for a company like Ford to offer a petrol variant 4x4, better off with different sized diesels. Toyota tried it many years ago and look what happened.

Yeah, I've owned my Raptor for a few years now. Great 4WD, no real issues except the 2lt bi-turbo. Not that there's anything wrong with it, actually it's a great little motor but here lies my problem...I've always owned V8's in my life and so I'm going to remedy that problem and have my Raptor booked in at Killa Kustoms next year to rip out the 2lt and replaced with the Fords 5lt V8 coyote motor producing 500hp... That'll put a smile on my dial. Check this out people th-cam.com/video/y0wqbh9AsHI/w-d-xo.html
