  • The Ranger is BACK! At least in North America after an 8 year hiatus. The mid size truck segment is growing quickly with the Toyota Tacoma, Chevrolet Colorado, GMC Canyon, Nissan Frontier, Honda Ridgeline, and the Jeep Gladiator.

I have just purchased a Ford Ranger XLT FX4 after owning 3 Jeep Wranglers for a number of years. I am tired of being being beat by the suspension of those but I wanted the ability to continue to enjoy off road fun. So far, I love my Ranger.

I'm averaging 25MPG with a tonneau cover in a FX4 XLT 2019 Ranger. The Sync system had an update that fixed the sluggish operation. Easily the favorite vehicle I've ever owned.

Have a 2020 Ranger FX4 with front level and Goodyear ultraterrain tires. Only getting 18 mpg average. Disappointing mpg but I love the truck. We had a real bad snow storm here in Colorado last winter, worst in decades. I work at a hospital and have to be there when they call me. I really like the new Ranger, I hope to get one in the next 3-4 years. I am absolutely the target consumer for this truck. Moderate off roading on the weekends for biking, hiking and camping. The occasional trip downtown with parallel parking and garages. I also live in a snowy climate. A great size truck for my needs. An F150 would be fine but I honestly don't need that much truck.

I have a 2019 FX4 ranger. The previous truck was an '03 Ranger FX4 Level 2. I regularly bring the truck on jeep roads and trails to access my favorite dirt bike trails. I am not really into wheeling for its own sake and leave the really nasty stuff alone (more fun on 2 wheels :-) ). For this purpose, the FX4 was a good choice. Capable, but not more than I need.

I have a 1st gen Tacoma, 4X4. I live in the subtropics so no need for navigating snow. Mud is the most common thing I encounter when I'm in wildlife management areas. I kayak and fish and there are a lot of freshwater lakes and ponds that are way out there. I like to find bodies of water in remote areas using satellite shots and topographical maps so I can see if I can provoke some fish that aren't used to being presented baits and lures. There is no 12 Step Program for fishing... Just like golf -- though I'm no golfer. Anyway, the same is true with launching my kayak. Where I live, within a 12-mile radius, I could drop my boat in a different and interesting place every day and not repeat myself for a year... and this variety is even greater in all directions; so I have a 4x4 more to get me home. I learned when I was a kid that almost any vehicle can get you out there ... but not every vehicle will survive for the second half of the trip. My truck is long in the tooth these days, 289K miles, it's time to upgrade. I've been looking at F-150s but I think I've been driving small for too long, plus the places I go are way tight. The RANGER is looking good to me --- but it seems FORD fudge the mileage stats on the F-150s and there is a class-action suit against FORD launched 1st by 2019 RANGER owners and in the last few days F-150 owners are in too. Everybody I know with F-150s tell me they get poor mileage because they are not driving properly however, none of them are getting advertised mileage at all ever. There may be something to the charges by the US Govt and this lawsuit. Thanks for the video. It was great.

First off American market Ranger with all that stuff is about $47,000ish. Second if you were to build and F-150 at that trim with the same options you would pay over $60,000 for that F-150. So this Ranger is cheaper. I'm also going to say I own a new Ranger. It does not want for power. It has plenty of power. I love it. I should note mine is lifted too. I got a 3.5 inch BDS lift. And it rides great. I love it more now that its lifted. And it looks incredible.

I purchased a 2019 Ranger Lariat FX4 crew cab because I don't NEED a larger truck. The full-sized pickups are difficult to drive in the city, particularly parking. You are constantly looking for a space that will fit.
7000 miles and averaging 23-28MPG @ 7,500'. MPG is excellent to 65 or so. After that MPG drops with speed.
Bed length. If longer is better, get the extended cab for the 6' bed.
Lots of complaints about lack of engine choices. Customers want a larger engine, i.e. the 2.7L. Truth is, the 2.3 has plenty of power for any situation. Suggest driving one before running off to a Toyota/Chevy. I've towed up to 3,000# with an extended wheelbase ATV in the bed. Didn't know it was back there, hills included (UT & WY). MPG 15-17.
Resale. In the near term it will not be as good as the Toyota. Down the road, who knows.
Because it's a 'world-wide' truck, it lacks many of the features we in America enjoy; heated steering wheel, sunroof, decent under rear seat storage, rear seat back folding flat and able load on it, electric sliding rear window and dampened tail gate although because its Aluminum this is not a big deal.
I know Ford wants customers to alter the climate control via on-screen selection, but I prefer larger buttons and dials and the on-screen buttons will not work with gloves when it's cold.
When the refresh comes in a couple of years many of the complaints should be addressed.

Does the truck feel like it's floating when driving on pavement? I keep hearing people saying you get a "sea sick" sensation due to the soft suspension.

    • @jimjacobson4797
      @jimjacobson4797 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@FortuneSeek3rz How a vehicle rides is personal. What is "floating" for you may be "planted" for the next person. I currently also own an '18 Focus RS. I can assure you that car defines "firm." But even with the experience of driving the RS, I don't feel my Ranger floats. The FX4 package hits the potholes pretty hard tho, harder than I would like and I live 6 miles of gravel road filled with them before the highway. There is also a short section of undulating highway nearby that I would describe as making the truck "wallow" which I consider different than floating. My best advice would be to drive a Ranger with the option(s) you prefer, then decide: FX4, 4x4, 2wd, Given that ride is personal, a test of a vehicle equipped with the drive train/suspension you want is critical. Vehicles are expensive these days and you would not want to find yourself in a vehicle that doesn't suit you.

I offroad my truck about once a week to the point where I drive until I get stuck in 2wd then I flip it into 4. I go kayaking and biking and quading. Getting to the majority of the places I adventure at to do all these things actually does require me to use 4wd frequently. If this ranger had a normal V6 option like the Colorado, I'd totally buy one. Along with my Silverado, I have 2 older explorers both with well over 200k miles on them which I love, If i could get a regular NA engine in the new ranger, I'd buy one without a doubt and even trade in my Chevy because my old explorers are the perfect size, and they've proven themselves to be super stout. On the other hand, The Tacoma’s six-cylinder gets better mileage than it’s four-cylinder. In the V6 form, the Tacoma gets 19 mpg city, 24 mpg highway and 21 combined. In the four-wheel drive version, that drops to 18 mpg city, 23 mpg highway, and 20 combined."

I use MY 2022 FORD RANGER to GET from POINT A to B-ON ROAD.I do LIVE IN THE NORTH EAST so, (snow and rain ) is a factor. I do AGREE WITH the ON-ROAD RIDE being kinda of BOUNCY. I think FORD RUSHED THE RANGER here to the states WITHOUT FINE TUNING the SUSPENSION'S RIDE and HANDLING BUT, I CAN LIVE WITH IT...FOR NOW.

The sour for me was when I sat in a crew cab Ranger at a dealership and found out how small the cabin is. Not recommended if you're a big guy (my old 2008 Tacoma feels bigger on the inside). Just go for the F-150 instead. I'm about 6'4" with a large build and my right knee was against the dash with the seat pushed back as far as it would go.

I may have been the exception as the Frontier overall seems to have good reliability, but mine was a flaming POS.
I spent more time in the dealer service lounge with that truck in 6 months than I did in the last 20 years with everything else combined.

If you spend 50k on a brand new Tacoma you will not get your 50k back in 4 yrs. Accept in rare exceptions 99.9% of cars and trucks depreciate in value each month and yr. They may hold better value than other vehicles but that was a doozy of a claim.

I just looked today cuz I'm shopping... a new Tacoma trd off-road is about 35-38k 2013s with roughly 100k miles were fetching about 20 grand. Thats insanely good value retention.
