Thank you for checking out the video! I hope it helped but I’d love to hear your tricks for adding volume!!!! You got a trick you love???? Throw it below so we all can learn!!!
Thank you. Nice tips. There is one tip that I figured out At age 60. After a shower many women put their hair in a towel and then put body lotion on legs, arms, etc. then they move to the hair. That lotion remaining on your hands can really squash any chance of volume in your hair. No hair product can fight through that. So now I do my body lotion last.
As someone who has blown dry my own hair for years, I always seemed to get it only a little bit right. This video is the FIRST time I finally get it! Thank you so much for posting this video. You are a very good teacher!
Just found your video! As a woman with thin hair, I really appreciated seeing the step by step process of adding volume. Thanks for the great tutorial!
Years ago I used to watch your famous parents give demos on a Portland morning show, on KATU I think. Your mom was a genius of a stylist; her makeovers were magical, extraordinary. She could make a hairy turnip look like Sophia Loren. So good to see her again--and delighted you’re carrying on the family tradition in the digital age by sharing these great tutorials.
Hey! Wow, yeah....it’s been a while. They were on KATU for years. I’ll tell my mom you said that, she’ll be super flattered to hear it! Thanks for checking out my channel! I appreciate your support!!!
How wonderful! I knew nothing about either Justin or his Mother. How awesome is that she too was a stylist! I'm sure she was just as great as her son Justin. Either or, she certainly taught him well! Blessings to both of these beautiful people!
Can you tell me exactly what products you used on her hair? I have been taking liquid Biotin for a couple of months because of my Alopecia. My hair has thinned so much in the front of my very fine hair. Biotin has helped but to be able to put more volume would be great.
No matter what the advice I was never able to keep my utterly without texture, fine, thin, aging hair out of my face for more than 1/2 an hour, much less add some poof, especially not at 62. Aaaarrrrgggghhhh!😡 While waiting for appropriate products to ship, I simply followed your blow drying instructions. It's cold, drizzly, & windy, right now, but my hair was intact all day! No fighting with my bangs! I owe you 40 YEARS OF THANK YOU's!💜
Hi Justin I am from Pakistan, living in a village, got hair baldness.i am thankful to you. From 16years I got hair problem, and I swear I know more about my hairs than any other top stylist in pakistan.i have tried alot, in different big cities of pakistan and tired.today I am v thankful to u and this technology which brings us v closer.good job my mentor, hats off.i wish to meet u once in my life to set my hairs. Justin you, sir, are a styling guru! I seldom comment on videos, however, after watching this particular tutorial for women such as me, over age 60 w/thinning & fine hair, you have completely dispelled all of hairstyle history's "usual" techniques for styling a pixie cut! Watching your techniques, I now believe I can use a "brush" properly for volume & management, a flat iron for height and/or lack thereof in the temple areas (accenting the "high cheekbones" rather than creating the usual "round" face), bringing the hair at the crown "forward" rather than straight back, etc. I'm scheduled with my stylist for a cut & color. My usual styled length is a below-the-chin bob, however, after viewing your video, I'm taking a leap of "hair" faith & will be sporting a new, sassy, spiked, pixie style that I feel I can NOW maintain due to your video tips! Thanks for setting me free from mundane madness! May God bless you as He certainly gifted you with artistic talents!
Absolutely! Just got my hair cut, the shortest I have ever had trying to get volume without looking like a bubble! I did exactly what you and beautiful mom said and did. Wow! I love my haircut. Thank you so much for this explicit video.
I am new and have love all your videos but THIS ONE ROCKS! Cuts and styling tips that lift the face for us older folks is just what I was looking for... And your mom is gorgeous.
Love to have him as my son, my hair is so thin and at 80 I know I should expect that,so this video is wonderful,he actually mentioned the product used which was very helpful, thank you for taking the time to help us oldies😘
I just keep learning the best and easiest tips from you! I wasn't stingy with the mousse and took care to really over direct my hair while drying today. I've got a lob, it's natrual gray, and wavy to curly...didn't have to use my flat iron and I've got great volume. Thanks to you and your beautiful mom!
Thank you for this video. I had thick bushy hair as a kid, but after developing a thyroid disorder in my 40’s, my hair is thin and limp. Great tips! Thank you!
It’s cool that you did this video. I feel that there are a lot of hairdressers that could use this info. It’s simple and understandable information that can make a huge difference to their outcome. So many hairdressers I’ve seen style hair wrong for what the client wants at the end. Thank you for this video.
Omg this video has changed my life at 41 lol! Had my hair cut short a few weeks ago & thought whyyy do I never learn that I can't do it myself at home & then today followed your instructions & voila it's like I just stepped out of the salon again, Ty so much! ❤
Super helpful, practical info, thank you both! I’ve had long hair as long as I can remember, and as a 70s/80s girl, I was expert at adding volume with similar techniques. These days, I’m in the middle of chemo, have lost over half my hair volume (normally fine, but thick…) and just had it cut to my shoulders. I know I’m going shorter in a few weeks, and I’m hoping I can sport a cut like your mom (now that I see how volume is done💗). Thank you for the inspiration, your video is clear and straight forward👍🏼
Best wishes Lori. When my mom went through chemo, she lost so much hair she went bald. She decided to just take it all off and it grew back thick and beautiful.
First thing I said was “I bet that’s his mum” bingo! I was correct. You look so much like your beautiful mum. I love love love her haircut! Oh she’s so lucky. An amazing son..the bonus he gets to cut and style her hair! A win win 💕. Lucky lady
Really👏👏Fantastic. What a,lovely mum, must say doesn't look old enough😍😊Loved her tips too👌♥️ Love all your video's and tips too Justin, you are very clear and easy to follow👏👏😊♥️ Thank you Grace in Scotland UK xx
I watched some of your videos, then I went to the store. I bought Moose root lift, and wax .I followed your instructions and watched how you styled your mothers hair. Oh My I am very happy. I have a hair style, Knowing how to bend made all the difference. Thank you.
He certainly knows what he's talking about. Great tips and love the fact that he's not only very knowledgeable but loves dogs. Wish he were nearer to me for personal suggestions and hair styling.
Omg, Thanks so much. I have fine short hair and really didnt know how to use a flat iron on it at all to give me some Volume. I did watch your video twice so I could reallllllly understand. Will be trying this asap.
Thank you so much for these tips. I just found you (yesterday) on you tube, and I can honestly say that with all the videos I have watched to style my hair ON YOU TUBE, YOU ARE EXTRAORDINARY. DOUBLE THANKS for having your mom explain and demonstrate the how to's that have made all the difference in just one day as I watched and styled my hair this morning. I am especially grateful for the tip about sitting in a chair to style my hair. As a senior with hair that has thinned out, I have been struggling to style it. I have one question for you, and if you have covered it in another video, please let me know. If not, please please, think about doing a video on cowlicks. I have several deep cowlicks in the back of my head where my hair is the thinnest. Even when I go to a salon for a haircut and blow out, the two cowlicks are there in a few minutes after I leave the salon. I would be very grateful if you would be kind enough to demonstrate how to make what looks like two railroad tracks in the back of my head blend in with the rest of my hair. My hair is a about an inch longer than your mom's. I am happy to be able to pass along your detailed and informative videos to my friends.
Hey! Thank you so much! I truly appreciate the kindness and support. I’m so glad I could help. Those kinds of growth patterns definitely beTough to manage! There are a few ways to deal with them and they all have pros and cons. I’ll definitely consider working that subject in the future video. Thank you so much for the feedback!
What a great video. First time I've ever really understood how to make thin hair look thicker without using a ton of awful stuff hairspray. Love that it was your mom who was your model. She has obviously listened to you and learnt from you and looks great.
Thank-you for an excellent video on fine hair. I have never been able to find a stylist who knows about fine hair. Therefore, over several decades, I have learned to cut and style my own hair. Your Mom's hair is fine, but it appears to have a little "body." My hair is fine with zero body. Some products that are useful are "John Frieda Luxurious Volume Root Booster," and (my personal favorite) "Designline Enchanted Midnight Leave-In with Keratin." Your tips about the flatiron and the technique of "bending" are invaluable. If you were located near me I would DEFINITELY trust you to style my hair. Again, I appreciate your excellent videos, and the characteristic you have of LISTENING to your viewers. You are fantastic!
Thank you so much Frankie!! I seriously appreciate the kindness. 🙏 Also, thanks for the insight on the products. There are SO many out there....it’s always nice to know what people are using and loving!!! Thanks again for all the support. :)
She's very beautiful naturally, but this hair style really adds more youth and softness to her. Thank you for being our demonstrator. Your absolutely beautiful.
Finally! A fine thin hair tutorial with someone that actually has fine thin hair! So many good tips. I've tried some of these things but wasn't doing them quite right. Also I love your mom's haircut. How do I go about describing it? I'm always have difficulty communicating with my hairdresser. Right now I think the top layers are too short and I'm getting height where I don't want it (like you said in one of your other videos..Audrea). I would like to see more views her hair. She needs to collaborate with you more often! :)
Thank you 🙏🏼 your Mum is gorgeous. I really appreciate your teaching me how to make my hair look thicker. I’m looking forward to learning more from you. 🌹
Justin, Wow!! I have short hair and never used a flat iron for volume! This technique is a game changer! What size flat iron do you recommend and at what temperature? I have medium/fine hair. Sharon is striking. It was so helpful when she explained that she does her hair sitting down, and why, and then show us exactly how she does it along with your comments & directions. Great job!
Thank you so much! I really appreciate that feedback. There’s actually a link so you can find my favorite iron in the description of this video. It’s the one I recommend all my clients and they all love it! As far as temperature I always turn the temperature on this iron up because it only goes to 400°. I would recommend nothing really above 400° for 110 is reasonable but above that is too much damage.
Would you please list the actual product name as far as brushes and stuff like that versus the link. It's not linking in on Amazon because I am not an Amazon lover completely. So it's showing that their page is not available. And I like the idea that it's Joe's round brush. Or Mary's flat iron. Do you know something that gives us a clue. Much thanks. Lovely job
Thank you for all the honest suggestions. I finally decided at 64 to go short and go light. I can tell the changes have made a difference in my appearance!
Hey Sharon.. I hope you co teach again. My Mom has some of the unique aging situations (shoulder pain) you brought up. I know I could get her to watch more of your gracious verbal teach direction that isn't too verbally fast for her to understand. To see someone her own age dealing with fine thinning hair and using product and tools correctly. She gets frustrated because it doesn't come out like when I style it. And we don't live close. Sincerely ~C
Oh my goodness! My hairstyle is similar to your Mom’s and I try for volume everyday! My hair is thinning and fine and straight with zero body. Coloring helps. I gave my curling iron away. Couldn’t make it work for me. Now I think I know what I was doing wrong. I’ve subscribed and hit the bell button.
I could not agree with you more! It’s absolutely a large illusion and once you understand the principles to creating better shape and hair it’s amazing what you can do.
I bend over so my hair is “hanging down” and dry my roots before I begin styling or drying the rest. My hair is baby fine and thinning so that gives me maximum lift/volume all over my crown area.
I am growing out the sides so i can put bangs behind ears but want to keep the undercut. This showed exactly what to show my stylist. I learned so much abt adding volume. Thanks❤❤❤
Amazing what those little well explained details can do to your overall look. Getting a great cut is only half of what the end result will be, we just saw the other half! Thank you and your beautiful model! 👏👏👏👍❤️
Great video. I love the short look. My problem is I cannot afford to keep getting a great hair cut to maintain the style. I did try, it got too costly. So……I let it grow long and I either roll it up or use curling iron and wear it up. I do get the volume on top because of the rollers. It’s sad a great haircut is so expensive.
Thank you soooooo much for this video!!! I have thin hair and have never ever known how to use a round brush or a flat iron!!! Now it was an ah ha moment for me on not only how to get volume, but what cut I need to help my thin hair!!!! I love your videos!!! Thank you from Texas! I would love for you to do my hair!!!!!
I love these videos. I have learned so much. I never learned how to do my hair. I love seeing how they do it and the awkwardness that I go through. Cant wait to try it out. Thank you.
HI from Iowa!! I watched video for the 2nd time. I love your Mom ! I think she could of ran the show! I lost my Mom a year ago. Cherish these moments with yours.
@@juliepetersen7974 ummm omg girl I’m from Troy but in Piqua now! So yep I’m your neighbor and as soon as Berks ( is that who it’s spelled!? ) opens I’ll be in Sidney more. This is crazy..small world after all!
Thank you so much Justin and Justin's mom. I am 63 and dealing with hair loss and graying that is overwhelming me. I even got a wig. Oh, how I wished it worked for me.
I have fine chin length hair that I wear in a bob cut. I've used Conair's electric rollers for years. I'd be lost without them. The thing to remember with hot rollers is to use hairspray all over your head as soon as you're done putting the rollers in...This makes for a longer lasting curl. If you don't spray your hair with the rollers in , your hair will come out too soft.
I always wet set the top of my hair, sleep on it, hard rollers on top & top of the sides, foam soft rollers in back & bottom if needed! I've cut my hair quite a bit shorter than my picture, I love it & get lots of compliments on it every time I go to town! Medical problem made it fall out a lot, had to cut it. It's much better on your hair too, put some tease at the roots & it stays about 3 days or more looking great! So less time in the long run! Thanks for your help, it's baby fine, thin now & colored!
I forgot to add, especially on the top & top sides, I use as large of rollers as I can, for a lot of lift, not so much curl. I just put one roller on the top sides to taper the fullness down on the sides. Great tutorial again!!🙏🙏💖
SUPER HELPFUL!! I loved the end when you said she's your mom...lol! Thanks to mom for showing your process! It was most helpful to watch each stage, see close up examples / visuals (esp on flat ironing forward, not up or back to get volume!) and all the explanations on why 'this or that.' Also big thanks for product info and how they're properly used...Lord have mercy so much I didn't know! :D
Was amazed at her skill. 😍 Her hair looked great. So much information ( not a complaint!), so I will watch it again. I do have thinning hair, so I would appreciate how to get the cut, too. I am disabled with a lot of severe back pain. I'd like to know how to get a good style on a bad day.
Justin and Sharon.... I miss you!!!! Thank you for your training, been Sharon's assistent was the funnest experience ever! Justin I love you, you're a great hairstylist. Nice to see you guys!
Whoa what!?! Daniele!!!! What’s up man! So great to hear from you. I was literally just talking about you to a client yesterday!!! How crazy. How’ve you been man? We miss you too! Shoot me an email, I’d love to catch up! Hickoxhair@gmail.com
I love the amount of volume she got in her hair, I have fine hair too and just a pixie cut, I have a basic hairdryer, straighteners and wondered what you could advise product wise for me to get here in the UK for volume? TFS
You must have been reading my mind! What a great video! Now I know I can do my hair and make it soooo great even my daughter will approve. Thank you thank you thank you!
I can see that I've been afraid of using mousse, had disasters and assumed i was using too much. I'll give it another go and put it through there ends also. Thank you, so nice to get help with sorry thin hair. Being blonde it's shows up more than dark hair.
Loved the video, thank you! Can you PLEASE begin listing the products you use and possibly use some products accessible to everyone, sometimes! Thank you, again!!
Thank you so much Lisa!!!! That’s a great point and yes! I totally vancouver it’s totally my fault I flat forget to put the links in the description!!!! I appreciate the reminder!!! So glad you liked the video!!
So happy to have found ur video. Don’t know name of my style other than bowl on my head, stacked in back, short around face so as not to get in eyes, with bangs. Love my cut but like the wispy look. Tomboyish still at 76. I call it sassy - my hubby of 58 yrs calls me his lil boy. 🥰!!!!! Lolol Not a fan of product but certainly gonna try ur technique. Tanks so much!
Great tips. I have struggled FOREVER with fine thin hair with thinning at hairline. My cur is similar to hers since any length has always looked too fine on the ends. You mentioned near the end, how the hair is cut to fall backwards following the cheekbones. Is there a video showing how this cut is done? Does she have texturized one length in the front with layers in the back style like your other “How to cut fine hair for volume” videos?
I don’t know how I missed this!!!... so helpful!!!... love your Moms haircut and style!... beautiful woman!... love her hair!... thank you both so much for all the tips!...loved it!...💜💜💜
Justin Hickox I have to have my son design me a shirt that says #CommunityRockstar... after he makes it for me, I will send you and Dionna shirts for you both!!!!!... 💜💜💜💜💜Dionna has to be the number 1!...
Hello, just subscribed. 😉 Your mom is gorgeous! I love her makeup, especially her eyebrows. I have a pixie cut & also blow dry my hair upside down. Thank you for the great video. 😊
This was so helpful thank you!!!! Would you consider leaving down below what hair products your using so we don’t have to go back through the video looking for the product.
Thank you so much! I appreciate the feedback! I’m looking for solid links for some of the products so I can ensure they’re from a reputable source. I order them through my supplier. The withers are from my own line and I ran out of Revamp quickly due to demand. I’m waiting on another shipment. I also need to figure out fulfillment on my products so I can handle the demand without late shipping issues. Honestly, I wasn’t ready for the demand on TH-cam. It’s awesome but I want to be sure to handle it correctly. Thank you for the feedback and support!!
I would love to see a video on how to cut different styles of bangs. I’m especially interested in learning how to cut a bang that is whispy in the front but blends into curtain bangs or feathered bangs on the side. Please, I need help with this.
Thank you!! The revamp is a product from my own line. I haven’t added a link to the video because I JUST ran out and I’m waiting on the shipment to come in. The Techni Art is from L’Oreal. I will add a link as soon as I find the best one for folks. I always order mine from a supplier, I’m sure it’s on amazon as well. Thanks for checking out my video!!

@@justinhickox Justin can I send for your video
What a great video. First time I've ever really understood how to make thin hair look thicker without using a ton of awful stuff hairspray. Love that it was your mom who was your model. She has obviously listened to you and learnt from you and looks great.
I love this!! Sharon, I LOVE your cut & style!! You ROCK it!! Thank-you so much for sharing this from a "do-it myself" styling... So helpful!
This was BY FAR the best tutorial on how to get volume for short thin hair.
Thank you so much! I truly appreciate that. I’m glad you liked it.
Thanks to both you and your amazing mother. I’ve learned tons. Have watched twice now and plan to revisit this great tutorial a few more times.
Awesome! I’m so glad it helped you! Thanks for checking it out!!!
It is October 2023...I enjoyed watching this again and there were still some takeaways. Thanks guys.❤j
You have a lovely mom and that hairstyle looks wonderful on her.
Yes, I love her haircut! Justin, please elaborate on her cut--I'd like to see if my hairdresser can re-create it!
Hey! That’s a great point. I’ll see if I can talk my mom into maybe doing a live video with me at some point and breaking everything down!!
This lady is blessed with quite a bit of hair, it’s not thin. Thank you for the tip on size of round brush!
Thank you so much Carol! I really appreciate your feedback! I’m so glad I could help!
Hairdressing is an art and many things can add an illusion and help us look younger! Mom looks fantastic!
Absolutely! This is a great tip as well. thank you for sharing that.
👏👏👏👍❤️
Marie....thank you. I truly appreciate that feedback! Thanks for your kind words!!
Thanks for explaining round brush volume technique. I like how you bring the back hair forward to create bend. Your instruction is great.
How are you doing 😊😊👋😊
keep up the good work.I've been doing hair 55 years .It is an illusion we all buy into it.But its great fun, we all need each other,xx
Awesome! Thank you so much! I always love seeing stylists on the channel. I really appreciate that support and feedback.
Just found your videos today! Love the way you instruct and let the client show how to style hair!
Thank you.
That’s awesome! I’m really glad I could help and that you like them. Can’t wait to hear how it goes.
Good job mom!...I wish my mom listened so well for styling tips!!
How are you doing 😊😊😊☺️
Love these videos. I can't believe I'm almost 60 before learning how to style my hair!
Fantastic! I’m so glad I could help. Really happy you’re loving the videos. Thanks for the support.
HI from Iowa!! I watched video for the 2nd time. I love your Mom ! I think she could of ran the show! I lost my Mom a year ago. Cherish these moments with yours.
Honestly, these are the best and most helpful styling tips I’ve ever seen!! Wish you worked in Ohio!😂💇🏻♀️
Wow! Really? Thank you so much for that. That means a lot.
I agreed bc I’m in Ohio as well! What part are you in Julie? I’m about 25 minutes north of Dayton.
@@JessieLee_ I might be your neighbor ~ I live in Sidney!😂
@@juliepetersen7974 ummm omg girl I’m from Troy but in Piqua now! So yep I’m your neighbor and as soon as Berks ( is that who it’s spelled!? ) opens I’ll be in Sidney more. This is crazy..small world after all!
Thank you so much Justin and Justin's mom. I am 63 and dealing with hair loss and graying that is overwhelming me. I even got a wig. Oh, how I wished it worked for me.
You’re so welcome. Thank you for the feedback! Side note: grey can be amazing! Don’t let it pull ya down, it could be a very striking look on you!!
Great points!!! Thanks for sharing that insight!!!
Yes us "older" gals are kind of new to the flat iron and the tricks needed to get the look we want. Thanks!
You’re so welcome!!! I hope it helped. Thanks for checking out the video!
Your mom is lovely. What a great collaboration.
This is SO helpful. Just implemented all those styling tips and have loads more volume. Just need the products now! Fabulous, thank you.
Your mom is so beautiful 💜 and the cut and color is perfect for her. I bet she’s so proud of you 😊
SUPER HELPFUL!! :D
This is one of my favorite videos. I keep going back to it to refresh my memory
i knew that was your Mom right away! Strong genes. Thank you for the tips.
I’ll take that as a compliment! :-)
Thank you for this info - best information I have ever seen about how to achieve volume in short hair!! Just ordered a flat iron.
Thank you so much Pamela! I really appreciate that! Can’t hear how it turns out after you try the flat iron!
This is my favorite video of yours. Getting your client to show us what you taught her.
Certainly gave me more idea about how to get volume. Thankyou
You’re so welcome!!! I’m glad I could help. Thanks for checking out the video!

I love the amount of volume she got in her hair, I have fine hair too and just a pixie cut, I have a basic hairdryer, straighteners and wondered what you could advise product wise for me to get here in the UK for volume? TFS
Thank you. Have you tried Bumble and Bumble styling cream? I think you can get that in the UK and it’s great for volume.
How are you doing 😊😊😊☺️

Justin Hickox Also, lol, can you please do a video on shoulder length, fine thinning hair and volume!!
I’ll definitely work on throwing one into the mix! Thanks for the idea! :)
Justin Hickox Thank you!!
Love her hairstyle. Looks like a fun hairstyle plus easy to take care of. She looks gorgeous.
Thank you! I’ll make sure to tell her that, she’ll love to hear it.
Really helpful!! I have thin hair, currently in an A line. Thinking of going short and this helped a ton.
Awesome!!! I’m so glad it helped!!! Thank you for your feedback and checking out the video!
🥰!!!!! Lolol
Not a fan of product but certainly gonna try ur technique. Tanks so much!
Awesome! Can’t wait to hear about turns out. Thanks for the feedback.
Thanks so much! Your mom is beautiful! Love her hair :)
Thanks Stephanie!!!! I’m glad it helped! I’ll let her know you said that. She’ll love hearing it. :)
Absolutely loving these tutorials. Lots ❤️ from Australia 🇦🇺
Thank you Felicity! That makes me happy!!!
I don’t know how I missed this!!!... so helpful!!!... love your Moms haircut and style!... beautiful woman!... love her hair!... thank you both so much for all the tips!...loved it!...💜💜💜

Hello, just subscribed. 😉
Your mom is gorgeous! I love her makeup, especially her eyebrows. I have a pixie cut & also blow dry my hair upside down. Thank you for the great video. 😊
Thank YOU for your kind feedback! I really appreciate your support!!!!
Thank you for pointing out how to apply hair products and how to use a round brush to archive volume to short hair...
Thanks and thanks to Mom. I'll be trying this tomorrow.
Awesome!!!! I can’t wait to hear how it goes! Thanks for checking out the video!
I’d like to know more about the products you’re using. Specifically the revamp. Where would I purchase this?
We like it the best when you use your live models!!!!
What a Beautiful Mama you have😊 She just lit up🥰 Great information! I Love your videos! Thank you.
Great content....am learning so much!! And thank you for the white t shirt!
Thank you! And you’re welcome. :). Thanks for the feedback!
I would love to see a video on how to cut different styles of bangs. I’m especially interested in learning how to cut a bang that is whispy in the front but blends into curtain bangs or feathered bangs on the side. Please, I need help with this.
Great information. Where do you purchase the products? Revamp and the Techni?? My hair is thin and fine.
Beautiful Mom...so glad I've found your station...that one tip about the "bend" vs "curl" made a huge difference for my style! Keep em comin!
