    Really dig yer no-frills Koala videos. It's really refreshing to just watch and experience a different work flow.. without an omniscient voiceover, offering unsolicited....what-have-you..
    [I'm just messin' I very much enjoy the vast production-related youtube content I view]
    The coolest thing for me actually is just how different your Koala workflow is from mine. I've definitely gained some new tools from watching your chops! (Specifically, sequencing percussion, then resampling the sequence. Don't know why, but it hadn't occurred to me that way!)

      Thanks, I really appreciate the feedback. Koala has definitely made me look at workflow in a different way. Coming from Ableton where your choices are endless, it pushed me to think more creatively. I love how we all work in our own way and I’m constantly picking up gems from other users too. I’m just glad I can put out some stuff that is useful to other people. 👍🙂

    Great sound man! I have been working with ableton for some 15 years, but only just got Koala. Now I’m trying to come to grips with the sampling workflow.

      Thank you! It is completely different but really enjoyable once you get your head around it. I still love Ableton and I find I like coming up with ideas in Koala then finishing up in Ableton. The fact you can export as an Ableton set is awesome! 🙂

    4:57 I’m loving all your video series. Very comprehensive. Have you thought about doing any videos on DJ scratching?

    I gotta study your videos for the smooth work flow because I usually run out of pads and fill up all 32 sequences. It can get to be a complicated mess finishing a song.

    • @nervouscooks
      @nervouscooks  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I feel you… I do the same sometimes but making these videos so that the viewer can hopefully see what I’m doing meant having to tidy my work up. I didn’t really want to have to flick through all the pad banks on screen so it forced me in to better habits! 😂

      @@nervouscooks I'm glad YT recommended your channel. I didn't know chops could be auditioned, and didn't know what PlayThru was all about but think I'll use it.

    Can you give any tips on how to use the keyword to play sample's like a bass? Seems to be incomplete, you can pick the scale but not the key lol

    • @nervouscooks
      @nervouscooks  ปีที่แล้ว

      Well it’s not that sophisticated but when I’m working with bass samples or anything melodic in Koala I tend to just pitch by ear. I think when using samples/one shots like bass notes if you want to be more accurate, it’s good to know if your sample is in ‘C’ before playing it inside the piano roll. Most sample packs usually have the key/note and you could bring a C note sample and then pitch the sample you’re working with to C before you start but that’s a longwinded workaround. With Koala it’s designed to be a bit limited but as I said I just work with my ear. I use the piano roll as another way of tweaking the pitch but I don’t tend to care what key or scale it is as long as it sounds right. Obviously with more sophisticated DAWs there’s lots more options for being accurate however I do think it’s good practice to be able to tune by ear. I hope that helps 🙂

    • @allieboy181
      @allieboy181 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nervouscooks I appreciate the info! But if you tune the note to C then put it in the piano roll how do I get it to the key I want? Like you can only pick major or minor, but no key selection.

    • @allieboy181
      @allieboy181 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nervouscooks what I usually do is just duplicate my bass note and pitch it to all of the pitches that are in that key. If I want more octaves then I have to do it again. It's a pain

      @nervouscooks  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@allieboy181 unfortunately I don’t think that’s an option with this app. I’m sure there is a Koala Facebook group or similar. You could try contacting the guy that designed it and suggesting it as an update. He seems to listen to the community. If anyone else reading this has any suggestions feel free to join in. I’m pretty comfortable with the app but I can’t guarantee I know every last function, maybe I’ve missed it??
